In order to study the flow field characteristics of cushion system of partial air cushion support catamaran (PACSCAT) in waves, an analysis was carried out involving flexible treatment on the bow and stern air seals to simulate air seal shape under test conditions by means of computational fluid dynamics method and fluid structure interaction (FSI) method. On this basis, the pressure conditions of the air cushion chamber and the pressurized chamber at different wavelengths and different speeds are studied and compared with experimental results. The experimental results show that: for the air cushion pressure, the nonlinear characteristics of the numerical calculation results are more subtle than the experimental values, after linear transformation, the amplitudes of the experimental values are obviously greater than the calculated values after linear transformation, but the average values are not much different; At low speed of 2.0m/s, the spatial pressure distribution of the pressurized chamber and the air cushion chamber are uniformly distributed, at high speed of 3.6m/s, except for a certain pressure jump occurred in the air cushion chamber near the stern air seal, the pressure in other spaces is also evenly distributed, it proves that the pressurized chamber type of air intake can effectively meet the air cushion pressure balance.

The cyclonic-static micro-bubble flotation column (FCSMC) performs well in fine mineral flotation. Compared to traditional flotation columns, its design innovatively introduces a cyclonic structure. The separation of middling and tailing occurs in the cyclonic flow field induced by a cyclonic reversal cone. In this study, the particle size distribution analysis and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were conducted to reveal the particle distribution law and the classification mechanism in cyclonic flow fields under different circulation pressures. The results showed that particle size showed the same distribution tendency as tangential velocity in the radial direction: both increase from the center and decrease around the wall. As circulation flux increased, the tangential velocity increased, and the particle size differences in the radial direction also increased. The position of the largest particles will move to outside as the largest value of tangential velocity migrates the outward in the radial direction. According to the particle size distribution of the feed, it can be adjusted to the flow field to change the particle distribution, thereby improving the efficiency of separation. This study has an important guiding significance for column design and adjustment of the operating parameters of the flotation process.

The optical band positions and the spin-Hamiltonian parameters (g factors g_{∥}, g_{⊥}, and zero-field splitting parameter D) of alum α-RbAl(SO₄)₂·12H₂O:Cr³⁺ are calculated by diagonalizing the 120× 120 complete energy matrix based on the two-spin-orbit-coupling-parameter model. The model takes into account not only the contributions due to the spin-orbit-coupling parameter of central d^{n} ion in the conventional crystal field theory, but also those due to ligands via covalence effect. The calculation indicates that the fourteen observed spectral data (eleven optical band positions and three spin-Hamiltonian parameters) can be reasonably and uniformly explained with four adjustable parameters (the Racah parameters B, C, intrinsic parameter A̅₄(R) in the superposition model, and the trigonal distortion angle β). The calculations also suggest that contrary to the previous findings, the trigonal distortion of Cr³⁺ (entering the Al³⁺ site in the host crystal) center in α-RbAl(SO₄)₂·12H₂O is induced mainly by the oxygen (or water) octahedron around the Cr³⁺ ion rather than the more distant neighbors.

A graph in a certain graph class is called minimizing if the least eigenvalue of its adjacency matrix attains the minimum among all graphs in that class. Bell et al. have identified a subclass within the connected graphs of order $n$ and size $m$ in which minimizing graphs belong (the complements of such graphs are either disconnected or contain a clique of size $ n/2 $). In this paper we discuss the minimizing graphs of a special class of graphs of order $n$ whose complements are connected and contains exactly one cycle (namely the class $ \mathcal{U}_n^c $ of graphs whose complements are unicyclic), and characterize the unique minimizing graph in $ \mathcal{U}_n^c $ when $ n \ge 20 $.

A new insensitive and high energy explosive based on RDX was prepared by suspension spray technology using Estane 5703 as a binder (e-RDX). Scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the morphology and particle size of the samples. The composite was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Its impact sensitivity and detonation velocity were determined. For comparison, raw RDX, refined RDX (r-RDX) and solution spray dried RDX/Estane 5703 (e1-RDX) were also tested using these five methods. The SEM results showed that the e-RDX size was 1-3 μm. e1-RDX exhibited a spherical shape with some defects on the surface. The XPS results indicated that Estane 5703 can be successfully coated onto the surface of e-RDX. Compared to raw RDX, the drop height of r-RDX, e1-RDX and e-RDX was increased, being 16.5 cm, 32.9 cm and 58.4 cm, respectively. The activation energy of e-RDX is lower than that of raw RDX, but a little higher than that of e1-RDX. Compared to raw RDX, the detonation velocity of r-RDX, e1-RDX, w-RDX and e-RDX had decreased, being 110 m·s–1, 710 m·s–1, 410 m·s–1 and 210 m·s–1, respectively.

Opis:
The construction of a water intake along the wharf shoreline can realise the intensive and comprehensive utilisation of the shoreline. However, since the water intake will increase the lateral flow at the wharf and also the hydrodynamic forces on ships, it will bring risks to ships mooring and leaving. The effects of the water intake on ships are studied using a physical model, numerical model and standard formulas. The results show that it leads to an increase of the hydrodynamic forces acting on the ship when the standard formulas are used to calculate the forces without considering the water level difference between the two sides of the ship. The results of the physical model are closer to the real situation. Measures that can effectively reduce the influence of the water intake on ships are proposed by increasing the distance between the wharf front and the front of the water intake as well as the depth of the water inlet windows.

Inflammation plays an important role in the development of many obesity-related diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ezetimibe on inflammation and myocardial remodeling in obese rats. A rat model of obesity was established, and myocardial damage was examined by transmission electron microscopy and Masson staining. Twenty obese rats were divided into two groups (n=10): obese group and ezetimibe group. Ten SD rats were used as controls. Western blot was performed to monitor the expression of P-p38MAPK and interleukin (IL)-6. Immunohistochemical staining was used to monitor the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1. In the obese rats group, we observed increased inflammatory factors and myocardial hypertrophy. In contrast, the ezetimibe group exhibited decreased expression of inflammatory factors and an improvement in myocardial remodeling compared to the obese group. Mechanistically, we found that ezetimibe decreased P-p38MAPK, IL-6, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 levels in the hearts of the obese rats. Taken together, these results indicate that ezetimibe may improve myocardial remodeling in obese rats by inhibiting inflammation.

Insulin resistance (IR) plays a critical role in metabolic syndrome (MS). Previous studies have demonstrated that activated ROCK is increased in MS patients. However, the effect of Rho-kinase (ROCK) on IR has not been definitely determined. Thus, the aims of the present study were to determine whether ROCK activation induces IR or affects myocardial structure and function, as well as the possible mechanisms underlying this process. Wistar rats fed high fat, high glucose and high salt diet sewed as model of MS and we used transmission electron microscopy, echocardiogram technology, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated DNA nick-end labeling staining to identify any myocardial damage. The protein levels of MYPT-1 (characteristic of ROCK activation), IRS-1 and AKT were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. In hearts from MS rats, we found increased protein levels of phospho-MYPT-1 and phospho-IRS-1 (Ser307) and decreased phospho-AKT compared to levels in normal rats. In conclusion, the results suggest that ROCK-mediated IR is involved in the development of myocardial impairments in MS rats and that this effect is mediated probably via the IRS-1/PI3-kinase/AKT pathway.

Thesis. After the handover of Hong Kong’s sovereignty to China in 1997, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government stipulated a trilingual (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin) and biliterate (English and Chinese) policy, in order to include Mandarin as an additional co-official language together with the original English and Cantonese. Until the handover, the use of Mandarin was restricted in British colonial Hong Kong. Since the handover, however, Mandarin and its users have experienced some resistance by local Hong Kong people. Method. In an attempt to better understand this resistance and its implications, this study adopts Pierre Bourdieu’s field, habitus, and capital theory, to analyse the anti-Mandarin discourse that has prevailed in the ensuing two decades. Via narrative inquiry, this study explains the habitus of four Mandarin speaking teachers, while especially noting their clashes with the anti-Mandarin discourse, and the symbolic violence they suffered in the field.     Conclusion. The study concludes with a reflection on the clash between the teachers’ struggles with the discourse from a postcolonial perspective, and it also considers the legal issues involved in protecting mainland Chinese as a minority in Hong Kong.

Ordovician was an extremely turbulent period for the Earth system, where the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event (GOBE) occurred in the early-middle Ordovician. Many hypotheses were proposed, taking into account both biotic and abiotic factors. One such hypothesis posits that global cooling led to a transition from greenhouse to icehouse climate systems, which further triggered feedback mechanisms such as increased oceanic circulation, bio-productivity, and oxygenation during the middle Ordovician. Direct evidence, however, is still scarce. Here, we have compiled a comprehensive dataset of δ18O (10,636) from carbonate rocks and fossil shells as well as clumped isotope temperature data (Δ47; 88) spanning the entire Ordovician. Our study investigates climate change from both temporal and spatial perspectives. We assessed the effects of the late diagenesis alteration, lithological differences, different depositional environments and water depths on the carbonate δ18O, and corrected the latitudinal effect of the δ18O in seawater. The latitudinal temperature gradient (LTG) was introduced to account for the spatial patterns of climate change, which here refers to the difference in sea-surface temperature between low (<20°) and low-to-middle (20–40°) latitudes. We observed a gradual increase in the LTG from Tremadocian to Dapingian, indicating an amplified thermal contrast between low and low-middle latitudes. It suggested a remarkable climate cooling and shift towards an icehouse climate state, coinciding with the GOBE. From Darriwilian to Sandbian, the LTG weakens significantly and the temperature difference decreases, which is consistent with the plateau of global temperatures and the slow change in species diversity. After Sandbian, a progressive steepening of LTG was observed, which provides the first evidence for low paradoxical atmospheric CO2 at the Late Ordovician. Our study supports the global cooling hypothesis and sheds light on the links between climate change and biological evolution across the Ordovician.

Opis:
For a successful company, machines are always required to work continuously to make more profit in a certain period. However, machines can be unavailable due to the scheduled maintenance activities or unexpected failures. Hence, a model connected production scheduling with maintenance planning for a production line which is composed of multiple machines is developed. Suppose preventive maintenance is imperfect and cannot renew all the machines. Age reduction factor and hazard rate increase factor are introduced to illustrate the imperfect character. Aperiodic preventive maintenance policy is adopted. Replacement as perfect maintenance could restore the machine “as good as new”. When and whether to perform replacement is based on a cost-time rate function which is defined to judge whether or not the preventive maintenance is economical. The objective of the joint model is to maximize the total profit which is composed of production value, production cost, maintenance cost (including the preventive maintenance cost and replacement cost), and tardiness cost (which is related to the job sequence and maintenance activities). To optimize the objective, immune clonal selection algorithm is utilized. The proposed model is validated by a numerical example.
Aby firma mogła działać z powodzeniem i przynosić większe zyski w danym okresie czasu, zainstalowane w niej maszyny muszą pracować w sposób nieprzerwany. Niestety, z powodu planowych działań obsługowych lub nieoczekiwanych awarii, maszyny są czasami wyłączane z produkcji. Dlatego też w niniejszym artykule opracowano model łączący harmonogramowanie produkcji z planowaniem obsługi technicznej dla linii produkcyjnej złożonej z wielu maszyn. W pracy założono, że konserwacja zapobiegawcza jest niepełna i nie prowadzi do odnowy wszystkich maszyn. Aby zilustrować jej niepełny charakter, wprowadzono pojęcia czynnika redukcji wieku oraz czynnika wzrostu wskaźnika zagrożenia. Przyjęto politykę nieokresowej konserwacji zapobiegawczej. Wymiana jako forma pełnej konserwacji pozwala na przywrócenie maszyny do stanu "fabrycznej nowości". Kiedy i czy należy przeprowadzić wymianę zależy od funkcji wskaźnika kosztu w stosunku do czasu, który pozwala ocenić, czy konserwacja zapobiegawcza jest opłacalna. Model zintegrowany ma na celu maksymalizację całkowitego zysku, który jest wypadkową wartości produkcji, kosztów produkcji, kosztów obsługi (w tym kosztów konserwacji zapobiegawczej oraz kosztów wymiany) i kosztów nieterminowego zakończenia zadania (ang. lateness, związanych z kolejnością wykonywanych zadań i czynności obsługowych). Aby zoptymalizować opisany cel, wykorzystano algorytm odpornościowej selekcji klonalnej Proponowany model zweryfikowano na przykładzie liczbowym.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease afflicting many people worldwide. As the specific biomarker, beta amyloid (Aβ) is considered to serve a central role in the progress of AD. To discover effective therapy for AD, esculetin was investigated using SH-SY5Y cells to evaluate its protective effects against the neurotoxicity induced by Aβ25-35. As a result, esculetin can improve the viability of SH-SY5Y cells injured by Aβ25-35 (58.0%, 66.1% and 82.1% at 0.1, 1 and 10 μM vs 49.5% at 0 μM). Further investigation has demonstrated the protective effects of esculetin at different concetrations of 0.1, 1 and 10 μM are associated with its inhibition of oxidative stress and apoptosis in SH-SY5Y cells, which is more observable especially at both 1 and 10 μM. These observations can give evidences for the following investigation in vivo and discovery of novel preventive method for AD.

Purpose: About 70% injury of gymnasts happened during landing – an interaction between gymnast and landing mat. The most injured joint is the ankle. The current study examined the effect of mechanical properties of landing mat on ankle loading with aims to identify means of decreasing the risk of ankle injury. Method: Gymnastic skill – salto backward stretched with 3/2 twist was captured by two high-speed camcorders and digitized by using SIMI-Motion software. A subject-specific, 14-segment rigid-body model and a mechanical landing-mat model were built using BRG.LifeMODTM. The landings were simulated with varied landing-mat mechanical properties (i.e., stiffness, dampness and friction coefficients). Result: Real landing performance could be accurately reproduced by the model. The simulations revealed that the ankle angle was relatively sensitive to stiffness and dampness of the landing mat, the ankle loading rate increased 26% when the stiffness was increased by 30%, and the changing of dampness had notable effect on horizontal ground reaction force and foot velocity. Further, the peak joint-reaction force and joint torque were more sensitive to friction than to stiffness and dampness of landing mat. Finally, ankle muscles would dissipate about twice energy (189%) when the friction was increased by 30%. Conclusion: Loads to ankles during landing would increase as the stiffness and dampness of the landing mat increase. Yet, increasing friction would cause a substantial rise of the ankle internal loads. As such, the friction should be a key factor influencing the risk of injury. Unfortunately, this key factor has rarely attracted attention in practice.

Opis:
Fashion brand companies must fully consider all the three following aspects in apparel product design: perspectives, method and model (the key research questions proposed by this study), and practise in a sustainable way, with a focus on the combination of enterprise practices and sustainable development. In this paper, we make full use of the key elements of clothing design to establish a user-friendly theoretical model based on the concept of “clothing series design” and conducted the first trial at an appropriate company (Burberry). Then we applied this method derived from our model to the new products released as part of the 2019 Spring and Summer collection at a Chinese apparel company to test the stability of the method. The study proposed a new sustainable design method and received positive application results through the tests at Burberry and at a Chinese apparel company, which can be considered as one of the major contributions of this study.
Firmy modowe muszą w pełni uwzględnić wszystkie trzy aspekty projektowania produktów odzieżowych: perspektywy, metody i modele (kluczowe pytania badawcze zaproponowane w badaniu) i praktykować w sposób zrównoważony, koncentrując się na połączeniu praktyk przedsiębiorstw i zrównoważonego rozwoju. W artykule w pełni wykorzystano kluczowe elementy projektowania odzieży, tak aby stworzyć przyjazny dla użytkownika model teoretyczny oparty na koncepcji „projektowania serii odzieży” i przeprowadzono pierwszą próbę w firmie odzieżowej „Burberry”. Następnie zastosowano metodę pochodzącą z opracowanego modelu w nowych produktach wydanych w ramach kolekcji wiosenno-letniej 2019 w chińskiej firmie odzieżowej, w celu przetestowania stabilności tej metody. Badanie zasugerowało nową metodę zrównoważonego projektowania i uzyskało pozytywne wyniki zastosowania w testach w Burberry i chińskiej firmie odzieżowej, które można uznać za jeden z głównych wkładów tego badania.

Opis:
A uniform is distinctive clothing worn by members of the same firm or organisation. In China, the market for professional garments is extremely large. However, as mandatory professional clothing, uniforms are frequently used, torn, and replaced, leading to textile waste. Further, the use of non-recyclable or non-biodegradable fabrics is bound to create greater environmental pressure. This study focuses on the textile material in the uniform market to analyse the motivational conditions behind sustainable fabric consumption. A total of 294 usable online surveys were obtained in 2019. Multi-item scales were adopted to measure five variables: corporate public image, corporate ethics, employee social status, environment awareness, and sustainable premium. Structural equation modelling was applied to test the hypothesises. Results reveal that the improvement of an employee's social status can effectively facilitate the probability of utilising eco-friendly fabrics. This study can thus help increase the usage of eco-friendly fabric in China’s uniform market.
Uniform to charakterystyczna odzież noszona przez członków tej samej firmy lub organizacji. W Chinach rynek odzieży profesjonalnej jest niezwykle duży. Jednak, jako obowiązkowa odzież zawodowa, uniformy są często używane i wymieniane, co prowadzi do marnotrawstwa tekstyliów. Ponadto stosowanie nienadających się do recyklingu lub nieulegających biodegradacji tkanin może powodować większą presję na środowisko. W badaniu skoncentrowano się na materiale tekstylnym na rynku jednolitym, przeanalizowano motywacyjne warunki stojące za zrównoważoną konsumpcją tkanin. W 2019 roku uzyskano łącznie 294 użytecznych ankiet on-line. Do pomiaru pięciu zmiennych: wizerunku publicznego firmy, etyki korporacyjnej, statusu społecznego pracowników, świadomości środowiskowej i zrównoważonej składki zostały przyjęte skale wielopozycyjne. Do testowania hipotez zastosowano modelowanie równań strukturalnych. Wyniki pokazały, że poprawa statusu społecznego pracownika może skutecznie zwiększyć prawdopodobieństwo używania tkanin przyjaznych dla środowiska. Badanie to może zatem pomóc w zwiększeniu wykorzystania tkanin przyjaznych dla środowiska na jednolitym rynku Chin.
