Opis:
A scaffold knit with natural sericin-free silk fibroin fiber possesses desirable mechanical properties, biocompatibility, ease of fabrication, and slow degradability. However, regenerated silk fibroin degrades faster than natural silk. In this study, natural silk fibroin fiber mesh-like scaffolds were prepared by a weft-knitting method and the pores were filled with sponge-like regenerated silk fibroin-collagen I. The microporous sponge and mesh-like scaffolds were fused to achieve gradient degradation of the scaffolds, and rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were seeded onto the scaffolds to form scaffold–BMSCs composites. The composites were implanted into gap defects made in the rabbit Achilles tendon. Twenty weeks after implantation, histological observation showed that tendon-like tissue had formed, collagen I mRNA was expressed, abundant collagen was generated, and that there was no obvious degradation of silk. The maximum load of the neo-Achilles tendon was 62.14% that of the natural Achilles tendon. These outcomes were superior to those obtained in the group implanted with a scaffold without BMSCs. These findings suggest the feasibility of constructing tissue-engineered tendons using weft-knitted silk scaffolds incorporated with sponge-like regenerated silk fibroin/collagen I and seeded with BMSCs, and show potential of the scaffold–BMSCs composites to repair Achilles tendon defects.

Opis:
To achieve high-efficiency and stable brake of a front-and-rear-motor-drive electric vehicle (FRMDEV) with parallel cooperative braking system, a multi-objective optimal model for brake force distribution is created based on radial basis function (RBF). First of all, the key factors, which are the coefficient of brake force distribution between the front and rear shafts, the coefficient of brake force distribution at wheels, the coefficient of regenerative brake force distribution between front and rear axles, that influence the brake stability and energy recovery of the FRMDEV are analyzed, the fitness functions of brake stability and energy recovery are established. Secondly, the maximum allowed regenerative brake torque influenced by the state of charge of battery is confirmed, the correction model of the optimal distribution coefficient of regenerative brake force is created according to motor temperatures. Thirdly, based on HALTON sequence method, a two-factor database, vehicle velocity and brake strength, that characterizes vehicle operation is designed. Then an off-line response database of the optimal brake force distribution is established with the use of particle swarm optimization (PSO). Furthermore, based on hybrid RBF, the function model of the factor database and the response database is established, and the accuracy of the model is analyzed. Specially, the correlation coefficient is 0.995 and the predictive error variance is within the range between 0.000155 and 0.00018. The both indicate that the multi-objective distribution model has high accuracy. Finally, a hardware-in-loop test platform is designed to verify the multi-objective optimal brake force distribution model. Test results show that the real-time performance of the model can meet the demand of engineering application. Meanwhile, it can achieve both the brake stability and energy recovery. In comparison with the original brake force distribution model based on the rule algorithm, the optimized one proposed in this paper is able to improve the energy, recovered into battery, by 14.75%.

Opis:
Soil acidification, fertility depletion, food insecurity, and environmental pollution all are consequences of the extensive use of chemical fertilizers (CF) in intensively managed plantations. Recent studies have shown that incorporating organic manure (OM) to partially replace CF can help to maintain productivity and soil health. There are no reports on integrated fertilizer management of Zanthoxylum armatum, for optimal ecological services and economic profitability. A pot experiment with Z. armatum was performed to investigate the possibility of incorporating OM in reducing CF use, enhancing soil fertility, and increasing plant growth. For this, seven treatments were designed: NPK, PK, NP, NK, OM, MNPK (50%NPK+50%OM), and control (CK, no fertilizer application). The results showed that NPK application significantly (P < 0.05) increased plant growth, soil nitrate-N, ammonium-N and available K compared to CK. However conventional CF application induced soil acidification. OM application raised the soil pH from 5.50 (CK) to 6.58 and significantly enhanced soil fertility by increasing alkali-hydrolysable N (2.3 times), ammonium-N (1.4 times), available P (4.3 times), the activity of invertase (1.5 times), catalase (2.8 times), acid phosphatase (1.5 times), and count of soil culturable microbes (2.9 times) compared to CK. Conversely, sole OM application did not result in optimum plant growth. Integrating OM with NPK (MNPK), on the other hand, not only provided the highest growth comprehensive value (0.84), but also substantially higher soil fertility comprehensive value (0.71) than traditional CF treatments. Correlation analysis also indicated a positive and significant correlation between soil microbes, enzyme activities and available nutrients. Therefore, OM+NPK could be an optimum measure to get maximum benefits regarding soil fertility, growth of Z. armatum, fertilizer savings and sustainable agroecology.

Opis:
Magnetooptical properties of (Ga,Fe)N layers containing various concentrations of Fe-rich nanocrystals embedded in paramagnetic (Ga,Fe)N layers are reported. Previous studies of such samples demonstrated that magnetization consists of a paramagnetic contribution due to substitutional diluted Fe ions as well as of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic components originating from Fe-rich nanocrystals, whose relative abundance can be controlled by the growth conditions. The nanocrystals are found to broaden and to reduce the magnitude of the excitonic features. However, the ferromagnetic contribution, clearly seen in SQUID magnetometry, is not revealed by magnetic circular dichroism. Possible reasons for differences in magnetic response determined by magnetic circular dichroism and SQUID measurements are discussed.

Opis:
Several industrial and research types of nitrate-ester plasticized polyether (NEPE) solid propellants were experimentally analyzed. In general, their compositions differed in the mass fraction of ammonium dinitramide (ADN), which was used as a promising highly energetic filler, as an alternative to ammonium perchlorate (AP). ADN exhibits high performance, low signature and non-polluting characteristics. The propellant composition without ADN, but with AP, was used as the reference. The microstructure and granularity distribution of the uncoated and coated ADN particles were experimentally analyzed. It was found that uncoated ADN particles exhibited irregular shape, while the ADN particles after coating are spherical. Because of their irregular shape, uncoated ADN particles caused inferior processability of the propellant slurry when added to the propellant formulation. Consequently, the NEPE propellants with coated ADN were studied in further detail. The rheological properties, energetic properties, mechanical sensitivities and combustion properties (burning rate and pressure exponent) of the NEPE propellants with coated ADN were studied and compared with the reference NEPE propellant. The addition of ADN particles to the propellant formulations increased the standard theoretical specific impulse and heat of explosion of the propellants, while decreasing the density. The propellants containing ADN particles were much more sensitive to impact and friction compared to the reference sample. Moreover, increasing the ADN mass fraction in the propellant formulation can significantly affect the combustion behaviour and increase the burning rate and pressure exponent compared to of the reference formulation. However it appears that ADN is a very promising candidate as a new energetic material in compositions of NEPE propellants, although several important questions concerning ADN’s suitability, especially in the context of its sensitivity to friction and impact, remain to be answered.

Compared to reverse cationic flotation, the advantages of reverse anionic flotation include relatively lower sensitivity to slimes and lower reagent cost. Besides, anionic collectors were found to have excellent capability of selectively separating an ultrafine magnetite ore. Addition of a small amount of cationic collector into the anionic collector as the collector mixture can improve the metallurgical results of removing silicates in reverse flotation. In this paper, NaOL and DDA were used for reverse flotation of the ultrafine magnetic concentrate. The separation performance of the collector mixture was investigated at different ratios of NaOL and DDA. The results showed that a better separation performance was obtained for the collector mixture than for NaOL alone. There was an optimal molar ratio between NaOL and DDA equal to 10:1. In the flotation system with the presence of the collector mixture, the good selectivity was found when starch was used as a depressor for magnetite and CaO was used as an activator for quartz. The influences of starch and CaO dosages on the separation performance of magnetite, quartz and chlorite had been investigated through micro-flotation tests. The infrared spectral analysis showed stretching vibration peaks of chemical adsorption of the collector mixture on the magnetite surface. The peaks were not present when starch was used as the depressor for magnetite. The closed flotation tests on the magnetic concentrate with the particle size of -25 μm were performed in the laboratory. The Fe concentrate assaying 64.52 % was obtained with Fe recovery of 80.66%, for the Fe content of feed equal to 52.98%.

Communication atmosphere based on emotional states of humans and robots is modeled by using Fuzzy Atmosfield (FA), where the human emotion is estimated from bimodal communication cues (i.e., speech and gesture) using weighted fusion and fuzzy logic, and the robot emotion is generated by emotional expression synthesis. It makes possible to quantitatively express overall affective expression of individuals, and helps to facilitate smooth communication in humans-robots interaction. Experiments in a household environment are performed by four humans and five eye robots, where emotion recognition of humans based on bimodal cues achieves 84% accuracy in average, improved by about 10% compared to that using only speech. Experimental results from the model of communication atmosphere based on the FA are evaluated by comparing with questionnaire surveys, from which the maximum error of 0.25 and the minimum correlation coefficient of 0.72 for three axes in the FA confirm the validity of the proposal. In ongoing work, an atmosphere representation system is being planned for casual communication between humans and robots, taking into account multiple emotional modalities such as speech, gesture, and music.

Catalytic cracking of volatiles derived from wet pig manure (WPM), dried pig manure and their compost was investigated over Ni/Al2O3  and Ni-loaded on lignite char (Ni/C). Non-catalytic pyrolysis of WPM resulted in a carbon conversion of 43.3% and 18.5% in heavy tar and light tar, respectively. No tar was formed when Ni/Al2O3  was introduced for WPM gasification and the gas yield significantly reached to a high value of 64.4 mmol/g at 650°C. When Ni/C was employed, 5.9% of carbon in the light tar was found at 650°C, revealing that the Ni/C is not active enough for cracking of tarry materials. The pyrolysis vapor was cracked completely and gave a H2-rich tar free syngas in high yield. High water amount of WPM promotes steam gasification of char support, causing the deactivation of Ni/C. Such a study may be beneficial to the development of livestock manure catalytic gasification technology.

Smart Buildings is a modern building that allows residents to have sustainable comfort with high efficiency of electricity usage. These objectives could be achieved by applying appropriate, capable optimization algorithms and techniques. This paper presents a Housing Development Building Management System (HDBMS) strategy inspired by Building Energy Management System (BEMS) concept that will integrate with smart buildings using Supply Side Management (SSM) and Demand Side Management (DSM) System. HDBMS is a Multi-Agent System (MAS) based decentralized decision making system proposed by various authors. MAS based HDBMS was created using JAVA on a IEEE FIPA compliant multi-agent platform named JADE. It allows agents to communicate, interact and negotiate with energy supply and demand of the smart buildings to provide the optimal energy usage and minimal electricity costs. This results in reducing the load of the power distribution system in smart buildings which simulation studies has shown the potential of proposed HDBMS strategy to provide the optimal solution for smart building energy management.

Opis:
This study comparatively presents the static puncture property of different structures of intra-/inter-laminar reinforced hybrid composites via needle punching and thermal bonding techniques. The tensile and bursting properties of two composites with inter-laminar reinforcement by needle-punching and inter-and-intra- laminar reinforcement by both needle punching and using Kevlar fibres were also evaluated comparatively. The significance of process parameters including the low-melting PET fibre content, take-up speed of the punching machine, the plied orientation between the nonwoven and fabric and thermal bonding on the static puncture resistance was firstly investigated to seek out the significant parameters. The effects of significant processing parameters on static puncture and mechanical properties were explored afterwards. The research result shows that the plied orientation, low-melting PET content and thermal bonding affect the static puncture resistance most significantly. The maximum tensile strength and bursting strength occurred when hybrid composites after thermal bonding were composed of parallel-plied nonwovens and 90°-orientated glass fabric, as well as 70 wt% low-melting PET fibres. Recycled Kevlar fibre reinforcement dissipates additional static puncture resistance, and makes the static puncture resistance higher, as well as the tensile and bursting strengths for resultant hybrid fibre composites. Employing recycled Kevlar fibres is economical for the fabrication of hybrid composites. Diversified economical hybrid composites will be applied as a wall interlayer or garment interlining in the future.

The development of low-cost organic/inorganic puncture-resisting composites is suggested to improve their puncture resistance and thermal insulation properties. In this paper, recycled high modulus Kevlar fiber and glass fabric were used together with polyester/lowmelting polyester nonwovens. The result shows that the static puncture resistance improves proportionally with Kevlar fibers; but the dynamic puncture resistance remains the same at first and then rises up to 20 wt % for Kevlar fibers. The increasing low-melting polyester fibers on the surface result in an upward and then downward trend for both static and dynamic puncture resistances. The additional polyester/low-melting polyester nonwovens are beneficial for the improvement of puncture resistances. Moreover the thermal conductivity of all the composites is in range of 0.015-0.025 W/m·K. According to the results, Kevlar fibers are also shown to be advisable reinforcement to achieve better tensile and bursting strengths.

Financial investors often face an urgent need to predict the future. Accurate forecasting may allow investors to be aware of changes in financial markets in the future, so that they can reduce the risk of investment. In this paper, we present an intelligent computing paradigm, called the Complex Neuro-Fuzzy System (CNFS), applied to the problem of financial time series forecasting. The CNFS is an adaptive system, which is designed using Complex Fuzzy Sets (CFSs) whose membership functions are complex-valued and characterized within the unit disc of the complex plane. The application of CFSs to the CNFS can augment the adaptive capability of nonlinear functional mapping, which is valuable for nonlinear forecasting. Moreover, to optimize the CNFS for accurate forecasting, we devised a new hybrid learning method, called the HMSPSO-RLSE, which integrates in a hybrid way the so-called Hierarchical Multi-Swarm PSO (HMSPSO) and the well known Recursive Least Squares Estimator (RLSE). Three examples of financial time series are used to test the proposed approach, whose experimental results outperform those of other methods.

Simultaneously, maxima at ≈1500 Oe on overall weak, up to 2%, negative magnetoresistance are seen at low temperature, whose origin has been tentatively assigned to effects taking place at the contacts areas.
