Opis:
The effect of shell side and coil side volume flow rate on overall heat transfer coefficient, effectiveness, pressure drop and exergy loss of shell and helical coil heat exchanger were studied experimentally under steady state conditions. The working fluid, i.e., water was allowed to flow at three different flow rates of 1, 2, and 3 l/min on shell side (cold water) and at 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 l/min on coil side (hot water) for each shell side flow rate at the temperatures of 298±0.4 K and 323±0.4 K, respectively. The results found that the overall heat transfer coefficient increased with increasing both shell side and coil side volume flow rates. The inner Nusselt number significantly increased with the coil side Dean number.

Opis:
The propagation of plane waves in a rotating homogeneous, isotropic, thermoelastic solid with double porosity following Lord-Shulman’s theory of thermoelasticity has been investigated. It is assumed that the medium rotates about an axis normal to the surface with a uniform angular velocity. There may exist five coupled waves that evolved due to the longitudinal, transverse disturbance, voids of type-I and type-II, and temperature change in the medium. The secular equation for the model under consideration has been derived with the help of formal solutions and boundary conditions. The amplitude of displacements, temperature change and volume fraction fields for voids of type-I and type-II have also been computed analytically. Finally, numerical computations have been carried out for magnesium crystal material to understand the behavior of amplitude of phase velocity, penetration depth, specific loss, displacement components, temperature change, and volume fraction field due to type-I and type-II voids corresponding to the different rotation rates. Various graphs have been plotted to support the analytical findings. The study may be used in the development of rotation sensors, material design and thermal efficiency.

Opis:
Deep neural networks (DNN) currently play a most vital role in automatic speech recognition (ASR). The convolution neural network (CNN) and recurrent neural network (RNN) are advanced versions of DNN. They are right to deal with the spatial and temporal properties of a speech signal, and both properties have a higher impact on accuracy. With its raw speech signal, CNN shows its superiority over precomputed acoustic features. Recently, a novel first convolution layer named SincNet was proposed to increase interpretability and system performance. In this work, we propose to combine SincNet-CNN with a light-gated recurrent unit (LiGRU) to help reduce the computational load and increase interpretability with a high accuracy. Different configurations of the hybrid model are extensively examined to achieve this goal. All of the experiments were conducted using the Kaldi and Pytorch-Kaldi toolkit with the Hindi speech dataset. The proposed model reports an 8.0% word error rate (WER).

In recent years, manufacturing industries have demanded high-performance ma- terials for structural components development due to their reduced weight, improved strength, corrosion, and moisture resistance. The outstanding performance of polymer nano-composites substitutes the use of conventional composites materials. This study is concerned with the machining of MWCNT and glass fiber-modified epoxy com- posites prepared by a cost-effective hand layup procedure. The investigations were carried out to estimate the generation of the thrust force (Th) and delamination factors at entry (DFentry) and exit (DFexit) side during the drilling of fiber composites. The effect of varying constraints on the machining indices was explored for obtaining an adequate quality of hole created in the epoxy nano-composites. The outcome shows that the feed rate (F) is the most critical factor influencing delamination at both entry and exit side, and the second one is the thrust force followed by wt.% of MWCNT. The statistical study shows that optimal combination of S (1650 Level-2), F (165 Level-2), and 2 wt.% of MWCNT (Level-2) can be used to minimize DFentry, DFexit, and Th. The drilling-induced damages were studied by means of a high-resolution microscopy test. The results reveal that the supplement of MWCNT substantially increases the machining efficiency of the developed nano-composites.

Transportation of drug through parental routes are conventionally followed through hypodermic injection methods, where hypodermic injections are administered into the human skin for drug release. However, there are some issues observed when these hypodermic needles are being used, there are instances where the needle is being inserted leaves some needle fractures in the skin. To cater to the issue scientific researchers are voraciously working on designing and developing polymeric type of microneedle structures for various medical diagnostic applications for glucose monitoring, drug delivery, and other applications. This article presents the structural design of a conicalshaped polymeric microneedle and the insertion force while being pierced into the skin. Simulations at different insertion angles on microneedle are analyzed by arriving with total needle displacements in the process of insertion. The von mises stress is also analyzed with applied force at different insertion angles resulted in incremental change in stress exerted by the microneedle. The resultant stress is below the yield stress which makes the microneedle pierce into the skin without breakage.

This paper explores the parametric appraisal and machining performance optimization during drilling of polymer nanocomposites reinforced by graphene oxide/-carbon fiber. The consequences of drilling parameters like cutting velocity, feed, and weight % of graphene oxide on machining responses, namely surface roughness, thrust force, torque, delamination (In/Out) has been investigated. An integrated approach of a Combined Quality Loss concept, Weighted Principal Component Analysis (WPCA), and Taguchi theory is proposed for the evaluation of drilling efficiency. Response surface methodology was employed for drilling of samples using the titanium aluminum nitride tool. WPCA is used for aggregation of multi-response into a single objective function. Analysis of variance reveals that cutting velocity is the most influential factor trailed by feed and weight % of graphene oxide. The proposed approach predicts the outcomes of the developed model for an optimal set of parameters. It has been validated by a confirmatory test, which shows a satisfactory agreement with the actual data. The lower feed plays a vital role in surface finishing. At lower feed, the development of the defect and cracks are found less with an improved surface finish. The proposed module demonstrates the feasibility of controlling quality and productivity factors.

Mild steel is a very important engineering metal. Petrochemical industries are used bulk amount for their various purposes like recovery of crude oil, refinery units and transportation. Crude oil is a very highly viscous liquid for the opening of the month well strong HCl acid and saline water is used. They produce hostile environment of mild steel. Gaseous substances like CO2 and SO2 gases are found into the well of petroleum. Large amount of saline water are used during recovery of crude oil in this water CO2 and SO2 are dissolved to produce H2CO3 and H2SO4. These acids create an acidic medium of mild steel. Saline waters have possessed Cl¯ ions. It produces ambient environment for mild steel. The solution of salty water contains dissolve oxygen which develop corrosive environment of mild steel. These major corrosive substances are available during recovery of crude oil and they form corrosion cell with base metal. Metal produces galvanic, pitting, stress, crevice, intergranular corrosion. Nanocaoting and filler methods are used to protect metal in such un-friendly environment. The corrosion rate of metal was calculated by weight loss experiment in absence and presence of nanocoating and filler materials. The synthesized organic compound octahydrodibenzo[a,d][8]annulene-5,12-dihydrazone is applied for nanocoating and MgS as filler. The coating and filling works were completed by chemical vapour deposition and nozzle spray method. Potentiostat used for determination corrosion potential and corrosion current density. The surface adsorption was studied by thermal parameters like activation energy, heat of adsorption, free energy, enthalpy and entropy. The thermal parameters results were shown that coating and filler compounds were adhered with base metal by chemical bonding. The thermal results were calculated by Arrhenius equation and Langmuir isotherm. The coating and the filler substance formed composite barrier with metal and developed a protective barrier for the corrosive substances.

This paper deals with modeling and analysis of complex mechanical systems that deteriorate with age. As systems age, the questions on their availability and reliability start to surface. The system is believed to suffer from internal stochastic degradation mechanism that is described as a gradual and continuous process of performance deterioration. Therefore, it becomes difficult for maintenance engineer to model such system. Semi-Markov approach is proposed to analyze the degradation of complex mechanical systems. It involves constructing states corresponding to the system functionality status and constructing kernel matrix between the states. The construction of the transition matrix takes the failure rate and repair rate into account. Once the steady-state probability of the embedded Markov chain is computed, one can compute the steady-state solution and finally, the system availability. System models based on perfect repair without opportunistic and with opportunistic maintenance have been developed and the benefits of opportunistic maintenance are quantified in terms of increased system availability. The proposed methodology is demonstrated for a two-stage reciprocating air compressor with intercooler in between, system in series configuration.

Seed is the most crucial and prime input in agriculture, and the seed must be of high quality. Seed priming is one of the reliable and cost-effective strategies to enhance seed germination and seedling establishment in crops. This study was conducted to determine the effects of seed priming with Mg(NO3)2 (S1) and ZnSO4 (S2) in two wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) varieties (HUW-468 and HUW-510) on germination and seedling growth. Varied levels of Mg(NO3)2 and ZnSO4 from C0 to C11 were used for the present study and number of seed germinated, seedling establishment and biochemical parameters were recorded. From the study of germination %, mean germination time (MGT), mean germination rate (MGR), coefficient of velocity of germination (CVG), germination rate index (GRI) (% / day), germination index (GI), seedling vigor (SV), shoot, root and seedling length, α-amylase activity, soluble and insoluble sugar content and protein content, it was revealed that 7.5 mM of Mg(NO3)2 and 0.05 mM of ZnSO4 were the best treatments in improving seedling establishment, performance and biochemical status of wheat seed. Further, this analysis also reveals a strong correlation between the seedling establishment and the activity of -amylase and protein content.

The rate at which the conventional energy sources are depleting is a matter of concern, and there have been major attention on this to make the thermal systems environment friendly, efficient, economic, sustainable, technically reliable. Sustainability of five different types of nanoparticles (Ceramic, carbon based, metal based, polymeric, and lipid based) from the perspective of four aspects involving cost, efficiency, technicality and environmental effect, in heat exchangers has been assessed. The analysis is carried out using the intuitionistic fuzzy combative distance based assessment (IFCODAS) method. In order to measure the sustainability of nanoparticles, a set of eleven evaluating criteria have been accredited on the basis of expert opinions and focus group meetings. By amalgamating the intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) theory as well as the use of distance-based assessment (CODAS) method, the IFCODASIFCODAS method has permitted the decision-makers to rate the alternative five nanoparticles pertaining to each criterion. On the basis of the results obtained from IFCODAS method, it is observed that the carbon based nanoparticles have an immense potential to provide significantly reliable and sustainable thermal system than other nanoparticles.

In manufacturing industries, the selection of machine parameters is a very complicated task in a time-bound manner. The process parameters play a primary role in confirming the quality, low cost of manufacturing, high productivity, and provide the source for sustainable machining. This paper explores the milling behavior of MWCNT/epoxy nanocomposites to attain the parametric conditions having lower surface roughness (Ra) and higher materials removal rate (MRR). Milling is considered as an indispensable process employed to acquire highly accurate and precise slots. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is very trendy among the nature-stimulated metaheuristic method used for the optimization of varying constraints. This article uses the non-dominated PSO algorithm to optimize the milling parameters, namely, MWCNT weight% (Wt.), spindle speed (N), feed rate (F), and depth of cut (D). The first setting confirmatory test demonstrates the value of Ra and MRR that are found as 1.62 µm and 5.69 mm3/min, respectively and for the second set, the obtained values of Ra and MRR are 3.74 µm and 22.83 mm3/min respectively. The Pareto set allows the manufacturer to determine the optimal setting depending on their application need. The outcomes of the proposed algorithm offer new criteria to control the milling parameters for high efficiency.

Opis:
Solar energy is the most affordable source of energy. Parabolic trough systems are used to concentrate and extract heat, therefore it’s very significant to analyse its performance in terms of energy and exergy. Exergy based analysis of the system ensures the eradication of losses, resulting in the yield of energy of the highest quality. In this paper, an investigation has been carried out using numerical simulation with an objective of analysis of Parabolic Trough Collectors on the basis of energy and exergy. Detailed second law analysis has been performed by varying the system and operating parameters through computer simulation. Exergy output has been determined by analysing the effect of major system parameters, namely, mirror reflectivity, glass transmissivity, absorptivity, the diameter of glass envelop, and the receiver. The operating parameters considered in the investigation are insolation and temperature rise parameters. The extensive investigation of the parabolic trough of a concentrated solar power plant for various design parameters in the range of operating parameters reveals that it is beneficial to operate the system at higher temperature as opposed to the preference of the operating system at lower temperature from purely thermal considerations.

Cooking is one of the most common activity in day-to-day life of every woman. In rural areas the transportation of fuel is major problem and the increasing demand of energy for cooking applications is gaining importance and various investigations are being carried out for performance enhancement of the solar cooker. The box-type solar cooker has a complex thermal analysis due to the transient heat transfer phenomenon involved in three dimensions. A comparison of the standard correlation available are analysed for accuracy of predicted results with experimental data. The investigation involves the experimental determination of the parameters viz. wind heat transfer coefficient, side and bottom loss coefficient, inner and outer glass temperature. The extensive data is analysed with that of standard correlations and the significance of the experimental data is checked. Analysis found to have deviation of 3%-20% in experimental and correlation data, which indicates that for accuracy of performance analysis the studied parameters should be determined experimentally.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to assess efficacy of Tadalafil alone versus Tadalafil plus Pentoxifylline in the treatment of erectile dysfunction by using self administered IIEF-5 questionnaire. Material and methods. Two hundred and thirty seven patients presenting with ED at andrology OPD were evaluated for ED by a self administered IIEF (International Index of Erectile Function) questionnaire. Patients were systematically randomized by computer generated random table into two groups groups namely, group A: Tadalafil only group, group B: combination of Tadalafil + Pentoxifylline. All the patients were re-assessed by IIEF-5 questionnaire after 8 weeks of medical therapy. Statistical analysis was performed using student’s unpaired t-test, paired t-test, chi square test. pvalue < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results. Two hundred and thirty seven patients were included in the present study, in group A: 92 patients (78.6%) showed improvement in their IIEF score after 8 weeks of tadalafil treatment. While in group B, overall 104 patients(86.6%) showed improvement after combination of Tadalafil and Pentoxifylline. There was a statistically significant difference of percentage change in IIEF score was seen in group B (group A 90.7±15.2%, group B 95.6±13.4%; p value – 0.014). We found this difference even more statistically significant in patients with severe ED (group A 72.7±47.2%, group B 132.3±54.3%; p value – 0.000). There was no significant difference in between the two groups with regards to occurrence of side effects. Conclusions. Both tadalafil and combination of Tadalafil + Pentoxifylline improve erectile function in patients of ED. Patients with severe ED showed much significant improvement in erectile function with combination therapy.
