Background. Oral health care services are often sparse and inconsistent in India therefore it is often difficult for poor people to get access to the oral health care services. The approach by dental institutions with the help of community outreach programs is a step ahead in overcoming this situation. Objectives. The study was conducted to evaluate the number of patients, disease pattern and the services provided in the outreach programmes and also effectiveness of patient referral. Methods. A retrospective study was conducted and the data were obtained from records of outreach programs conducted, in last 2 years by Pacific Dental College and Hospital. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics for the computation of percentages Chi-square test was applied to know the association of effectiveness of referral with age and gender. Confidence level and level of significance was fixed at 95% and 5% respectively. Results. A total of 22982 individuals in the age group of 4-80 years attended the outreach program. Dental caries (42.3%), periodontal diseases (63.2-69.0%) and dental fluorosis (33.7-35.0%) were commonly observed diseases. Effectiveness of referral was significantly high among the middle age adults and females (P<0.05). The effectiveness of referral was highly improved in 2013 after establishment of certain guidelines and strategies. Conclusion. The approaches by dental institutions with the help of community outreach programs can spread awareness and disseminate treatment and thereby enhancing access to care and eliminating access to care within the rural communities.

The stretching sheets with variable thickness may occur in engineering applications more frequently than a flat sheet. Due to its various applications, in the present analysis we considered a three dimensional unsteady MHD nanofluid flow over a stretching sheet with a variable wall thickness in a porous medium. The effects of radiation, viscous dissipation and slip boundary conditions are considered. Buongiorno’s model is incorporated to study the combined effects of thermophoresis and Brownian motion. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by using MATLAB bvp4c package. The impact of various important flow parameters is presented and analysed through graphs and tables. It is interesting to note that all the three boundary layer thicknesses are diminished by slip parameters. Further, the unsteady parameter decreases the hydromagnetic boundary layer thickness.

In this study we focus on finite element simulation of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) of AA2219 aluminum alloy and the behavioral of the microstructure before and after weld. The simulations were performed using commercial COMSOL Multiphysics software. The thermal history of the weld region was studied by initially developed mathematical model. A sweep type meshing was used and transient analysis was performed for one welding cycle. The highest temperature noted was 3568 °C during welding. The welding operation was performed on 200×100×25 mm plates. Through metallurgical characterization, it was observed that a fair copper rich cellular (CRC) network existed in the weld region. A small amount of intermetallic compounds like Al2Cu is observed through the XRD pattern.

There are numerous genetic factors like MC4R (Melanocortin-4 receptor), POMC (Proopiomelanocortin), SIM1 (Single Minded Gene) etc. important in obesity, which can be used as biomarker. But more reliable diagnostic markers are the need for today, along with new therapeutic strategies that target specific molecules in the disease pathways. As in mouse and human genes, where mutations in one or both species are associated with some phenotypic characteristics as observed in human disease. In molecular mechanisms of development, differentiation, and disease gene expression data provide crucial insights. Up-regulation and down-regulation of selective genes can have major effects on diet-induced obesity, but there is little or no effect when animals are fed a low-fat diet. In present study we have studied the gene expression data of mouse at different theiler stages using GXD BioMart. The interacting partners and pathway of the genes that are already used as biomarker in mouse as well as in humans have been studied. A gene NPY1R (Neuropeptide Y1 receptor) was taken as common after STRING and KEGG results on the basis of biochemical pathways and interactions similar to MC4R. Our present work focuses on comparative genomics and proteomics analysis of NPY1R, which has led to identification of biomarker by comparing it with already known MC4R human and mouse biomarker. It has been concluded that both the proteins are structurally and functionally similar.

The effect of magnetic field dependent (MFD) viscosity on thermal convection in a horizontal ferromagnetic fluid layer has been investigated numerically. A correction is applied to Sunil et al. The MFD viscosity parameter δ as well as the measure of nonlinearity of magnetization M3, both have a stabilizing effect on the system. Numerical results are also obtained for large values of magnetic parameter M1 and predicted graphically.

The onset of convective instability is analysed in a rotating multicomponent fluid layer in which density depends on n stratifying agents (one of them is heat) having different diffusivities. Two problems have been analysed mathematically. In the first problem, a sufficient condition is derived for the validity of the principle of the exchange of stabilities. Further, when the complement of this condition holds good, oscillatory motions of neutral or growing amplitude can exist, and thus it is important to derive upper bounds for the complex growth rate of such motions when at least one of the bounding surfaces is rigid so that exact solutions of the problem in closed form are not obtainable. Thus, as the second problem, bounds for the complex growth rates are also obtained. Above results are uniformly valid for quite general nature of the bounding surfaces.

Opis:
The effect of magnetic field dependent (MFD) viscosity on the thermal convection in a ferrofluid layer saturating a sparsely distributed porous medium has been investigated by using the Darcy-Brinkman model in the simultaneous presence of a uniform vertical magnetic field and a uniform vertical rotation. A correction is applied to the study of Vaidyanathan et al. [11] which is very important in order to predict the correct behavior of MFD viscosity. A linear stability analysis has been carried out for stationary modes and oscillatory modes separately. The critical wave number and critical Rayleigh number for the onset of instability, for the case of free boundaries, are determined numerically for sufficiently large values of the magnetic parameterM1 . Numerical results are obtained and are illustrated graphically. It is shown that magnetic field dependent viscosity has a destabilizing effect on the system for the case of stationary mode and a stabilizing effect for the case of oscillatory mode, whereas magnetization has a destabilizing effect.

MRI is one of medical diagnostic imaging technologies that can draw the cross section in the body. To obtain a clearer image, Gd complexes are often used as MRI contrast agents. Gd-DTPA (Gd-Diethylenetriaminepentaacetate, Magnevist registered trademark ) is used in particular as the MRI contrast agents. We prepared and evaluated novel MRI contrast agents that were chemically modified Gd-DTPA with sugars (represented as Gd-DTPA-Sugar) via hydrolysis route for providing specificity to target organs and tissues. Gd-DTPASugar complex showed an excellent potential for the MRI contrast agent (r1=31.2 s-1mM-1). Gd-DTPA-Sugar complexes alternatively prepared by shorter synthetic route without protection/ deprotection (hydrolysis) method showed inferior results (r1=6.3 and 8.1 s-1mM-1) to the hydlized product.

The present investigation aims at fabricating a functionally graded Al-6Cr-Y2O3 composite and its microstructural and property characterization. Al-6Cr-alloys with varying percentage of Y2O3 (5-10 vol. %) have been used to fabricate FGM by powder metallurgy route. The samples were subsequently subjected to solution treatment at 610°C for 4h followed by artificially aged at 310°C for 4h. The microstructure, hardness and wear behavior of these FGM have been evaluated. FGM exhibited superior hardness (360 ± 5 VHN) as compared to the unprocessed composites (220 ± 5 VHN) due to the uniform dispersion of Y2O3 particles. Wear resistance of Al-6Cr-10Y2O3 FGM were compared that of with pure Al-6Cr alloy by dry abrasive wear test. Al-6Cr-10Y2O3 FGM composites were found to exhibit higher wear resistance with the minimum wear rate of 0.009 mm3/m compared to the Al-6Cr alloy wear rate 0.02 mm3/m.

Pure and Ni (2 at.%) doped cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles have been synthesized by chemical co-precipitation method at room temperature. Effect of Ni doping on CdS compound semiconductors has been analyzed using X-ray diffractometer, transmission electron microscope, energy dispersive spectroscopy, Raman and optical absorption studies. X-ray diffraction study confirmed the structure of the obtained nanoparticles to be single-phase zinc blende with the diffractions from (111), (220) and (311) planes. Energy dispersive spectroscopy study confirmed the presence of Ni in the CdS lattice. The average particle size obtained from the transmission electron microscopy studies are in agreement with the crystallite size calculated from X-ray diffraction data. The optical studies exhibited a clear red shift of absorption edge as a function of Ni doping.

The use of sewage sludge in agriculture is known to be environmentally friendly as it is a practical way of recycling municipal waste. A short-term experiment was carried out to study the changes in soil chemical and microbiological properties influenced through the addition of sewage sludge along with saline irrigation under a pearl millet-wheat crop rotation. There were three irrigation (canal water (0.35 dS m-1), 8 and 10 dS m-1 electrical conductivity saline water) and five fertilizer treatments (control-F1, sewage sludge (5 t ha-1)-F2, sewage sludge (5 t ha-1) +50% recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF)-F3, sewage sludge (5 t ha-1)+75% RDF-F4 and RDF-F5). The results showed that soil organic carbon, and available nitrogen, and phosphorus were reduced significantly under saline conditions but there was an increase in available potassium with the increasing salinity levels of the irrigation water. A significant reduction in soil microbial biomass carbon and enzyme activities was caused by 8 and 10 dS m-1 as compared to 0.35 dS m-1 at different growth stages of crops. Treatment F4 attained the highest soil microbial activity at each crop growth stage by a significant margin among all of the fertilizer treatments, which is associated with a substantial build-up of organic carbon and available NPK in the soil. Soil microbial activities followed a particular trend: at 35 and 75 days after sowing>harvest>sowing in pearl millet and wheat, respectively. Sewage sludge dumping is a major problem in India, and the present study suggests that by applying sewage sludge, soil biological health is improved; therefore its use in agriculture is recommended to farmers.

Salinity stress severely affects the growth, physiological and developmental processes in plant species. Melia dubia is an ecologically and economically important tree species of the Indian subcontinent. However, systematic information with respect to the species salt tolerance potential is completely lacking. Under salt stress conditions, determining suitable soil EC range is required for the better survival, growth and productivity of the tree species. In present study, we investigated the effects of different soil salinity (EC 4, 8, and 12) levels on the ion homeostasis, physio-biochemistry, morphology, and growth of M. dubia plant. Results revealed that increase in soil salinity causes higher Na+ content and Na+/K+ ratio, while lower K+ content, in the leaf tissues of M. dubia. The physiological processes such as the photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, internal CO2 concentration, and transpiration rate were adversely affected with the increased salt stress levels. Morphological parameters, such as internodal length, petiole length, leaf length, and leaf width also decreased (P<0.05) under saline stress conditions. Results further indicat- ed that salinity levels significantly (P<0.05) affected the M. dubia growth, and the growth rate was found optimum upto 8 EC, thereafter it slightly decreased with the increased salt stress to 12 EC. Our findings showed that increased salinity stress causes significant changes in the physiological, morphological, and growth pattern of M. dubia. Therefore, based on present experiment, we found M. dubia suitable for the salt affected soils of EC 8 with optimum growth rate and at EC 12 with the moderate (20–25%) growth reduction.

The present review deals with parameters influencing the rice breakage during rice milling operations and the effect of rubber roll Sheller in rice husk removal process. The main objective of rice milling system is to remove the husk and bran layer to produce the white rice. In this process, rubber roll sheller is used to remove husk from the grains by friction process. If the rubber material is too soft, there may not be sufficient shear force to husk the paddy. Wear will be minimum for rubber material with high hardness but indeed it pronounce the breakage of rice. Hence, for efficient husking the rubber roll material should possess the balance of physico-mechanical properties. Rice breakage depends on several other parameters like the type of harvest, drying temperature, drying methods, physical characteristics of paddy, husking characteristics, paddy moisture content, rubber roller speed, rubber roll pressure, paddy feed rate and fissures. Rubber roll wear depends on the type of rubber material attached to the roller, feed rate, roller speed, pressure etc.

Depression is a mental illness and is considered to be a global threat. It is designated as burden of disease. There is therefore an intense need to improve the therapeutic response of antidepressants. India beholds a wide fraction (Agaricus bisporus and Pleurotus ostreatus ) as a vital source of non-hallucinogenic indole compounds. The amino acids L-tryptophan and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) are precursors of serotonin. 5-HTP is a potential antidepressant that can cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) at a high rate and is converted into serotonin more efficiently. Drug delivery across this blockade remains a challenge due to the stimulation of efflux pump receptors called permeability glycoprotein (P-gp). This work reports a comparative phytochemical assay and profiling of nonhallucinogenic tryptophan metabolites using HPLC from two organic extracts of edible mushrooms. The efficacy of the eluted compounds was authenticated as P-gp inhibitors with in vitro and in silico studies. The following four derivatives were obtained from the methanol and ethanol extracts of the mushrooms: 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan (5HTR), 5-hydroxy tryptamine (5-HT), L-tryptophan (L-Trp), and tryptamine (TA). In vitro and molecular docking studies targeting P-gp (minimum energy: -64.38 and -83.93 kcal/mol, respectively) substantiated the ability of mushroom-derived metabolites to facilitate drug delivery in the brain. This study verified that mushrooms containing non-hallucinogenic metabolites can act as psychoactive nutraceuticals that are significant for enhancing mental health. The high therapeutic efficacy, these mushrooms can serve as ideal neurological drug leads to fortify treatment for mental illness.

In this paper the reflection and transmission at a plane interface in modified couple stress generalized thermoelastic solid half spaces in the context of Loard-Shulman (LS) and Green-Lindsay (GL) theories in welded contact are investigated. Amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are obtained due to incidence of a set of coupled longitudinal waves and coupled transverse waves. It is found that the amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are functions of the angle of incidence, frequency and are affected by the couple stress properties of the media. Some special cases are deduced from the present formulation.
