Opis:: The dependence of the crystal-field splitting parameter D in NiSnCl$\text{}_{6}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O on hydrostatic pressure was determined by the electron paramagnetic resonance method, for the pressures up to 500 MPa. The derivative (∂D/∂p)$\text{}_{T}$ as well as the temperatures and pressures at which the D-parameter reaches zero, were determined. The molecular mechanism responsible for the temperature and pressure changes of the D-parameter is similar to that one observed in the isomorphic NiSiF$\text{}_{6}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O.

Opis:: The aim of this review-paper is to overview high pressure techniques used in the magnetic resonances in laboratories. In this review, we would like to show the techniques that lead yielding high pressure applicable in the paramagnetic resonances. We would like to draw your attention to the separation of the effects resulting from the pressure and effects from the temperature, thereby separate the volume phonon contribution. Our main intention is to show the impact of high pressure on the structure of matter, in particular on its fundamental level.

Opis:: The atomic structure and morphology of ultrathin Pb layers deposited on the Ni(001) face in ultrahigh vacuum at the substrate temperature, ranging from 145 K to 900 K, were investigated with the use of the Auger electron spectroscopy and low-energy electron diffraction. The analysis of the Auger electron spectroscopy measurements indicates that the Volmer-Weber growth of the Pb takes place for substrate temperature T < 300 K. Between 300 and 600 K, the Stranski-Krastanov growth mode is observed. For 600 K ≤ T ≤ 700 K, only first two-dimensional Pb layer formation is found. Above 700 K desorption of lead atoms from the first layer is observed. The ordered low-energy electron diffraction patterns corresponding to p(1×1) and c(2×2) structures are observed.

Opis:: The following work briefly presents a research project that aims at identifying barriers obstructing distance education. The research was conducted on the overall number of 158 distance students. The comparative group consisted of 430 traditional students. The attention was focused on the problems associated with Internet studies and there was a comparative analysis conducted on the perception of described factors by e-learning and traditional students (day and weekend studies). The results suggest that factors commonly perceived as the main disadvantages of distance studies are not more onerous than for traditional students.

Opis:: Introduction. Liver cirrhosis is a chronic disease in which progressive fibrosis is noted. This process leads to changed architectonics of the liver parenchyma and the appearance of regenerative nodules, all of which are caused by pathological activation of the hepatic stellate cells. This process is enhanced on a molecular level by many cytokines, with platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs) playing the key role. Objective. The aim of the study was to assess serum concentrations of PDGFs active biodymers (PDGF-AA, PDGF-BB and PDGF-AB) in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis, and to correlate them with the stage of disease. Materials and method. 64 patients with alcoholic cirrhosis and a control group of 16 healthy individuals were analysed. Liver cirrhosis was determined based on clinical image, history of the patients’ alcohol consumption, laboratory findings and abdominal ultrasonography. The serum PDGF-AA, PDGF-BB and PDGF-AB concentrations were determined using ELISA kits. Results. Serum concentration of PDGF-AA and PDGF-BB homodimers increases in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis (p=0.034 and p<0.0001, respectively), unlike the serum concentration of PDGF-AB heterodimer (p>0.05). When the stage of the disease increases, the concentrations of PDGF-AA and PGFD-BB in blood also oncrease. Furthermore, the serum level of both PDGF-AA and PDGF-BB correlates significantly with the severity of alcoholic liver cirrhosis (measured by Pugh-Child’s scale), the correlation being stronger in the case of PDGF-BB levels than PDGF-AA (R=0.28; p=0.027 and R=0.26; p=0.038, respectively). Conclusions. The plasma levels of PDGF-AA and -BB may be indicators of alcohol-induced liver fibrosis process, and might be considered as future possible treatment targets, with PDGF-BB levels being an even better indicator than PDGF-AA levels.
