Opis:
W owocach oznaczono zawartość podstawowych grup polifenoli: antocyjanów, elagotanin i flawan-3-oli z zastosowaniem metody HPLC. W jeżynach stwierdzono zawartość: antocyjanów – 210 ÷ 465 mg/100 g ś.m., elagotanin – 53 ÷ 320 mg/100 g ś.m. i flawan-3-oli – 121 ÷ 282 mg/100 g ś.m., a suma polifenoli wynosiła 556 ÷ 898 mg/100 g ś.m.
The objective of the study was to determine the polyphenolic composition of six blackberry cultivars, including the prevalently used Orkan and Gaj, and of four novel cultivars: Ruczaj, Polar, Brzezina, and Leśniczanka, as well as to determine the variability of main groups of polyphenols contained therein. Fruits of the above named cultivars constituted the research material; they were acquired from a Sadowniczy Zakład Doświadczalny Instytut Ogrodnictwa in Brzezna (Experimental Station for Fruit Growing, Institute of Horticulture in Brzezna, Poland). In the fruits, the basic groups of polyphenols were determined using a HPLC method: anthocyanins, ellagitannins, and flavan-3-ols. It was found that the contents of those polyphenols in blackberries were as follows: anthocyanins between 210 and 465 mg/100 g FW, ellagitannins between 53 and 320 mg/100 g FW, and flavan-3-ols between 121 - 282 mg/100 g FW; the total polyphenols were between 556 and 898 mg/100 g FW. The fruits of the Ruczaj cultivar were characterized by a significantly higher amount of anthocyanins (465 mg/100 g FW) and the Polar blackberries by a significantly lower amount of anthocyanins (210 mg/100 g FW.); however, the latter cultivar was characterized by a significantly higher amount of ellagitannins (319 mg/100 g FW). In the fruits of all the cultivars, cyanidin-3-O-glucoside was the main anthocyanin (79 - 91 % of total anthocyanins). In the blackberry fruits, the total contents of two ellagitannins: lambertianin C and sanguiin H-6, and their reciprocal percent contents were significantly different depending on the type of cultivar; thus, they could be considered to be a criterion for similarity. A high content of total polyphenols in the Ruczaj, Polar, and Gaj cultivars could be a further factor when popularizing the cultivation of those cultivars.

Opis:
In this paper, the influence of a laser surface treatment on the structure and properties of aluminium alloy has been determined. The aim of this work was to improve the tribological properties of the surface layer of the EN AC-51100 aluminium alloy by simultaneously melting and feeding silicon carbide particles into the molten pool. The silicon carbide powder was introduced into the liquid metal using a gravity feeder within a constant feed rate of 1 g/min. A high power diode laser (HPDL) was used for remelting. Laser beam energies used in experiments were 1.8 kW, 2.0 kW and 2.2 kW, combined with the constant velocity of 50 mm/min. As a result of the laser treatment on the aluminium alloy, a composite layer with greater hardness and wear resistance compared to the based material was obtained.

Opis:
Chromium bioavailability in animals depends on their species, age and physiological state as well as fodder composition and Cr source. However, inorganic forms of chromium are poorly absorbed compared to organic compounds. One hundred and eighty Isa Vedetta chickens were assigned to 2 groups, with 3 replications of 30 birds each, to determine the effects of different Cr source on its bioavailability, growth performance and carcass characteristics of broiler chickens. All chickens were fed with commercial standard concentrate mixtures (starter, grower and finisher) depending on the birds’ age. The dietary treatments consisted of a basal diet supplemented with chromium chloride (control group) or chromium-enriched yeast (experimental group). The treatments were supplemented with chromium so as to provide the same amount of pure chromium in both groups. Mortality, body weight and feed conversion rate were measured. On the 42nd day, 6 cockerels and 6 hens from each group were randomly selected, decapitated, blood samples were taken and carcass composition was determined. The bioavailability of Cr was evaluated by the level of that trace element in mentioned above soft and hard tissues. Furthermore, dry matter, crude protein and crude fat in muscles were determined and sensory analyses of quality muscles were carried out. Growth performance, feed conversion ratio and mortality were unaffected by treatments. There was no Cr source effect on outcomes of post-slaughter analyses. Cr enriched yeast effected the decrease (P ≤ 0.05) in crude fat and dry matter content in breast and leg muscles compared to chromium chloride. Inclusion of chromium-enriched yeast to concentrate mixtures increased (P ≤ 0.01) the level of Cr in analysed tissues, which might be evidence of its better bioavailability in chickens. It can be assumed that such animal origin products may be a good source of effectively absorbed Cr in human nutrition.

Opis:
Introduction. The article describes the process of converting a large multi-specialized hospital into one dedicated to COVID-19 patients, and present established standards of work organization in all the wards and training system of the medical and supporting staff. The several weeks pandemic of the COVID-19 disease has forced the healthcare systems of numerous countries to adjust their resources to the care of the growing number of COVID-19 patients. Managers were presented with the challenge of protecting the healthcare workers from transmission of the disease within medical institutions, and issues concerning the physical and psychological depletion of personnel. Materials and method. Based on analyses of the structure and work processes in Central Clinical Hospital (CCH) reconstructive strategic plan was developed. It included: division of existing wards into observation and isolation wards; installing locks; weekly plan for supplying personal protection equipment (PPE); designating new access to the hospital and communication routes; training of medical and supporting staff. The plan was implemented from the first days of conversion of the hospital. Results. The wards of the CCH were converted for observation and isolation, and each one was fitted with sanitary locks. There was a big improvement in the supply of PPE for the medical staff. Separation of the ‘dirty’ and ‘clean’ parts of the CCH were attained, and widespread intensive training not only protected personnel against infections, but also diminished unrest which was discernable at the beginning of conversion. Conclusions. The transformation efforts will ultimately be appraised at the end of the epidemic, but the data looks encouraging. Two weeks after conversion, the testing of hospital Staff was started and by the end of April, 459 tests were had been conducted, of which only 11 were positive.

Opis:
Tests performed in 2013 and 2014 revealed the occurrence of three tick species parasitizing pet cats and dogs in the Wrocław Agglomeration. In total, 1,455 tick specimens were removed from 931 hosts (760 dogs and 171 cats) in 18 veterinary clinics. The dominant tick species was Ixodes ricinus (n=1272; 87.4%), followed by I. hexagonus (n=137; 9.4%) and Dermacentor reticulatus (n=46; 3.2%). Females were the most often collected development stage among I. ricinus and D. reticulatus, and nymphs among I. hexagonus. Additionally, D. reticulatus ticks (n=337) were then collected from vegetation in the Wrocław area to detect Babesia canis; however, none was found positive. Only 9.0% of dog blood samples sent to VETLAB were positive for Babesia spp. Negative results for B. canis from ticks may result from the short period of the occurrence of D. reticulatus in the Wrocław area and therefore the vectorpathogen cycle may not have been fully established at the time of the study. Nevertheless, D. reticulatus is expanding its range, and the size of its population in the Wrocław Agglomeration is increasing. The presence of the pathogenic Babesia spp. combined with the occurrence of its main vector¸ D. reticulatus, suggests that the epizootiological situation in the area can change and may pose a new veterinary problem in the future.
