Background. The incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis is dependent on many factors, not just health but also demographics. The primary objective of the study was to identify and evaluate selected risk factors for active tuberculosis in patients treated in the former specialist clinic in the eastern part of Lublin Province and to compare them with the ones researched by other authors. Material and methods. The work was retrospective as it concerns the analysis of the data drawn from the records of 100 patients with active tuberculosis. The information on the examined patients included the following parameters: sex, age, place of residence and marital status. Results. The majority of the studied population were male (69.0%), among whom the highest proportion concerned the fourth age group, i.e. 51-60 years old (mean 36.3%). As for sex and place of residence of the patients, the proportion of the infected men living in the country was twice as high (68.7%) when compared to women (31.3%). However, there were no differences with regard to the subpopulation percentage of women (67.8%) and men (66.7%). In turn, considering the sex and marital status of the examined persons, we found that the highest proportion of men were bachelors − 39.1%, while the percentage of married persons was similar among men (56, 5%) and women (58.1%). Conclusions. The analysis of the data shows that in the studied area pulmonary tuberculosis is most common among married men aged 51-60 years living in the country.
Wprowadzenie. Zapadalność na gruźlicę płuc zależy od wielu czynników, nie tylko zdrowotnych, lecz również wskaźników demograficznych. Celem pracy była identyfikacja i ocena wybranych czynników ryzyka gruźlicy prątkującej w populacji chorych leczonych w specjalistycznym ośrodku lecznictwa zamkniętego we wschodniej części województwa lubelskiego oraz porównanie ich z wynikami badań innych autorów. Materiał i metody. Praca miała charakter retrospektywny i była oparta na analizie danych pochodzących z historii chorób 100 pacjentów z aktywną postacią gruźlicy płuc. Zakres zbieranych danych obejmował następujące parametry: płeć, wiek, miejsce zamieszkania oraz stan cywilny badanych chorych. Wyniki. W badanej populacji większość stanowili mężczyźni (69,0%), wśród których najwyższy odsetek odnotowano w czwartej grupie wieku, tj. 51- 60 lat (36,3%). Biorąc pod uwagę płeć i miejsca zamieszkania badanych osób, to aż dwukrotnie wyższy był odsetek mężczyzn zamieszkałych na wsi (68,7%) w porównaniu z kobietami (31,3%). Jednak nie ma różnic w udziałach badanych w subpopulacji kobiet (67,8%) i mężczyzn (66,7%). Z kolei uwzględniając płeć i stan cywilny badanych stwierdzono, że w badanej populacji dowiedziono, że największy udział mieli tu mężczyźni zaliczeni do kategorii stanu cywilnego (kawaler) 39,1%, natomiast zbliżone były udziały osób będących w związku małżeńskim, zarówno wśród mężczyzn (56,5%), jak i kobiet (58,1%). Wnioski. Z analizy uzyskanych danych wynika, że gruźlica płuc na terenie objętym badaniami występuje najczęściej u mężczyzn w grupie wieku 51-60 lat, mieszkających na wsi i pozostających w związku małżeńskim.

The development of civilization, economic growth, urbanization, industrialization and progress in medicine bring to the society an improvement in the quality of life, but at the same time caused changes in lifestyle, environmental conditions, and changes in the natural environment. All of these led to develop civilization diseases which have critical impact and the adverse effect on our health, about what we not always realize. In the past fifty years, about 30 new pathogens appeared causing diseases such as legionellosis, Lyme disease, and increase unexpectedly tuberculosis incidence which in some regions is associated with HIV infections. Also widespread use of antibiotics caused and still causing bacterial resistance increase to most of them. With the development of medicine and surgery, parallel effects of surgical areas and infections associated with implanted cardiac devices in the majority of the life-saving ones appeared. The development of research techniques allowed for the finding of new relationships between ecosystems in the microbiome of the gastrointestinal tract with of obesity in the society. The presence of new health aspects of civilization diseases impose pressure to create new prevention methods and public education.

Drift-diffusion computer simulation model available in Synopsys’ Sentaurus TCAD User Guide is used to study electrical and optical characteristics of a separate-confinement heterostructure laser based on AlGaAs. We investigate the role of the width and depth of quantum-well active region, below and above the lasing threshold. The device properties depend on both, the number of bound quantum-well states and on closeness of the highest bound states to conduction or valence band offset. The lasing action may not exist at certain widths or depths of quantum-well, and the threshold current is a discontinuous function of these parameters, at such values of quantum-well width or depth when the highest quantum-well bound states cross conduction or valence band energy offset. The effects are more pronounced at low temperatures. Discontinuities in characteristics are found, at certain conditions, in temperature dependences as well. The carriers scattering time on quantum-well is shown to have a crucial role for the amplitude of discontinuities of these characteristics. The current below the lasing threshold and the threshold current density itself decrease with an increase of quantum-well scattering times and the amplitude of discontinuities decreases then as well.

W artykule opisano zestaw aparatury do pomiaru i rejestracji przebiegów czasowych parametrów ruchu pojazdu bezzałogowego. W skład systemu pomiarowego wchodzą czujniki pozwalające na pomiar wartości parametrów charakteryzujących wymuszenia działające na badany pojazd i jego reakcje w warunkach dynamicznych, układ zbierania danych oraz oprogramowanie do sterowania pomiarami i analizy wyników. Aparatura pozwala na rejestrację prędkości wzdłużnej i poprzecznej pojazdu, przyspieszeń i prędkości obrotowych nadwozia w trzech wzajemnie prostopadłych kierunkach oraz prędkości obrotowych kół jezdnych. System charakteryzuje się elastyczną konfiguracją pozwalającą na wykorzystanie do badań różnego rodzaju pojazdów i jest przeznaczony przede wszystkim do realizacji standardowych testów drogowych do oceny stateczności i kierowalności pojazdów pożarniczych lub innych samochodów z wysoko umieszczonym środkiem masy.
The article is devoted to a set of measurement apparatus for the recording of movement parameters of an unmanned vehicle. The presented system is composed of sensors enabling the measurement of the value of parameters characterising forces affecting a tested vehicle, and the vehicle's reactions in dynamic conditions. Additionally, a data collection system and software for the control of measurements and the analysis of test results are shown. The apparatus enables the recording of the vehicle's longitudinal and transverse velocity, the acceleration and the rotational speed of the body of the vehicle in three parallel directions, and the rotational speed of its wheels. The systems is characterised by a flexible configuration that allows for its application in tests of different kinds of vehicles, however it is mainly intended for standard road tests aiming at the assessment of stability and manageability of fire engines and other vehicles with a high centre of mass.

The article presents a prototype device and methods for the testing of the tightness of air handling units with built-in heat recuperators. The tightness test is a preliminary test that helps to verify whether the device can in fact be used in a mechanical ventilation installation. The external and internal air leakage was tested with the use of a standard gas meter equipped with an electronic impulse transmitter. The test stand cooperates with a built-in control system developed by the authors to determine thermal efficiency and humidity recovery in recuperators constituting elements of the developed air-handling unit.
W artykule przedstawiono prototypowe urządzenie i metodykę badania szczelności zewnętrznej i wewnętrznej central wentylacyjnych z odzyskiem ciepła. Badanie szczelności jest wstępnym testem sprawdząjacym przydatność urządzenia do zastosowania w instalacji wentylacji mechanicznej. Do dokładnego pomiaru przecieku wewnętrznego lub zewnętrznego centrali zastosowano legalizowany gazomierz wyposażony w elektroniczny nadajnik impulsów. Stanowisko wspołpracuje ze zbudowanym przez autorów układem sterowania instalacji do wyznaczania sprawności temperaturowej i odzysku wilgoci w rekuperatorach wchodzących w skład centrali.

The article presents the configuration and the operation principles of the test systems for testing the safety of the devices of the high rescue used by rescue services. The system consists of a portable computer, a data acquisition block, and measurement modules equipped with their own power supplies and radio wave transmission modules. It is intended for certification testing of the devices of the high rescue for use in fire department units.

This paper seeks to describe the imitation of Platonic dialogues in the aspect of their literary form recognized in Cicero’s De oratore. It requires a presentation of selected polemical interpretations regarding distinct traits of Platonic dialogue as well as taking sides in the matter. The first part of the paper presents G. Zoll’s interpretation of the Platonic dialogue, who in his dissertation on literary form of Ciceronian dialogues labels De oratore the ‘most Platonic’ of his dialogues. In his interpretation, he follows Cicero's way of understanding the features of Plato's masterpieces. Cicero considered the Platonic dialogue to be, first of all, a written tribute paid to the late master by his thankful disciple and, secondly, a text, whose aim is to present a pedagogic situation and to guide its readers. In the second part of the paper an analysis on the double pedagogic situation of De oratore is carried out. In the pedagogic situation presented in the dialogue the role of the master is played by Crassus, while Sulpicius and Cotta are placed on the position of his disciples. This ‘inner’ situation is reflected by the ‘outer’ one, which is evoked on the level of the narrator-author and implied reader. Special attention is paid to various means of building the master’s authority and of enhancing narrator’s importance. The third part of the paper presents briefly opinions of L. Edelstein and P. Plass, who consider Plato’s anonymity to be the most meaningful trait of his works. These commentators stress the presence of aversion towards sophists and speakers of poetical tradition, who usurp the role of the master. This aversion was vividly displayed in many dialogues. According to the mentioned scholars, pedagogy of the Platonic dialogue is different from the ancient model pedagogy, and therefore qualitatively different from Cicero’s pedagogy expressed in De oratore. This confrontation of contagious interpretations of Platonic dialogue facilitates the reevaluation of Cicero’s imitation of Plato’s dialogues.

In this paper a conception, modelling and simulation tool for drive system of the prototype electric vehicle "ELV001" have been presented. The design and building of this vehicle have been carried out in frame of the project: "Building a market of electric vehicle and charging infrastructure - fundamentals of energy safety". The simulation tools are of great assistance to engineers and researchers to reduce product-development cycle time, improve the quality of the design, and simplify the analysis without costly and time-consuming experiments. The presented simulation tool has been developed using the system simulator Synpsys/Saber software. This user-friendly simulation package is able to simulate electric/electronic circuits and mechanical modules; i.e., it has capability for simulating the entire system of an automobile. Chosen simulation results of the electric vehicle "ELV001" has been presented.
