Opis:
Studies of the concentration of fungal spores were carried out in the cities of Lublin and Rzeszów simultaneously in 2002. At both sites the volumetric method of measurement was applied, using the Lanzoni VPPS 2000 trap. Only the allergenic taxa were analysed: Alternaria, Botrytis, Cladosporium, Drechslera type, Epicoccum, Torula, Stemphylium, Pithomyces, Polythrincium, and Ganoderma. The research showed considerable differences in the concentration and frequency of spores in the air at the sites compared. Higher mean concentrations of spores were usually observed in Lublin. Only for two taxa were the concentrations higher in Rzeszów. No significant differences were observed for the genus of Polythrincium and Torula. Also the lengths of periods of occurrence of the spores were determined using the 95% method. It was determined that the geobotanical conditions in Rzeszów have a positive effect on the lengthening of the presence of the spores in aeroplankton. The results of the observations were analysed statistically, which confirmed the occurrence of significant differences between the cities compared.
Badania koncentracji zarodników grzybów w powietrzu prowadzono równoczeoenie w Rzeszowie i Lublinie w roku 2002. Na obydwu stanowiskach zastosowano wolumetryczną metodę pomiaru przy użyciu aparatu pułapkowego Lanzoni VPPS 2000. Analizowano taksony alergenne: Alternaria, Botrytis, Cladosporium, Drechslera typ, Epicoccum, Torula, Stemphylium, Pithomyces, Polythrincium, Ganoderma.

The literature review consisted of shifting green therapy as an additional element to the traditional treatment. Green ecological function at health centers is the impact on the climate by emitting a phytoncides and negative air ionization. In addition, research shows that a person residing in a green area in the process of recovery faster and recover. That alone looking out the hospital window on plants of juicy, saturated colors enhances the mood of patients and medical facilities.

Opis:
One of the ways to reduce the water consumption by plants while maintaining their proper quality is to use substances that limit excessive transpiration. Three preparations at following concentrations: Moisturin (10%), Root-Zone (4.5%) and Vapor Gard (1%), were used in the experiment. Moisturin and Vapor Gard were applied in the form of a single spray, and Root-Zone as a single irrigation in mid July. The aim of the research was to assess the effect of several anti-transpirants on some biometric features of the ‘Tardiva’ panicled hydrangea depending on the frequency of irrigation. The following parameters were measured: area, perimeter, width and length of leaf blade, length and width of inflorescences, and the diameter of shoots. Treatment of H. paniculata cv. ‘Tardiva’ with Root-Zone and Moisturin anti-transpirants with a single irrigation every other day allows to reduce the water consumption and obtain shrubs of a quality comparable with plants irrigated twice a day. The use of Moisturin with a twice daily irrigation positively affected the length and width of inflorescences.

Opis:
Garden perennials are a source of floristry material produced in field or under covers. A perennial producing long, leafy shoots, which in flower arrangements might successfully substitute fern or palm leaves, is Polygonatum multiflorum. The variety characterizing with decorative white margined leaves is ‘Variegatum’. To improve their quality, the growth stimulator Actisil Hydro Plus, which contains 0.6% of active silicon in a form of orthosilicic acid was applied. The aim of the conducted experiment was to estimate the influence of silicon and a place of cultivation (tunnel and open field) on post-harvest quality determined with morphological features, vase life longevity and mechanical properties of Polygonatum multiflorum (L.) All. ‘Variegatum’ stems. The plants were sprayed with water solutions of Actisil in concentrations: 0.2%, 0.3%, and 0.4%, six times during the growing season in weekly intervals, starting from the first decade of May, always in the morning. It was stated that cultivation of Polygonatum in the unheated foil tunnel increases quality of shoots for cut greenery, determined with morphological features and post-harvest longevity. Cultivation of Polygonatum in a foil tunnel and spraying plants with Actisil in concentrations of 0.3 or 0.4% is advantageous due to possibility to increase a number of shoots from 20% to over 31%, their length from 9% to 11% and fresh weight from 52% to 71%, in comparison to control plants. It is advised to treat plants cultivated in a tunnel, with Actisil in concentration of 0.4% as it improved shoots quality evaluated with their diameter and lower leaves blade area. Spraying plants with Actisil in concentrations of 0.2–0.4% in the tunnel and 0.2% in field prolongs post-harvest shoots longevity by 3–4 days. Plants cultivated in the tunnel characterize with higher strength of shoots determined with higher maximum force causing permanent damage and lower stem deflection than plants cultivated in field. Plants grown in a tunnel and sprayed with Actisil in concentrations of 0.4% characterized with the strongest shoots after 14 days of storage, however a similar effect was observed with the concentration of 0.3% and in case of plants cultivated in field and sprayed with 0.4% of Actisil.

Phytosulfokine-α (PSK-α) (H-Tyr(SO3H)-Ile-Tyr(SO3H)-Thr-Gln- OH) (I), a sulfated growth factor universally found in both monocotyledons and dicotyledons, strongly promotes proliferation of plant cells in culture. The C-terminal truncated analog named PSK-β (Tyr(SO3H)-Ile-Tyr(SO3H)-Thr) (II) showed a 10-fold lower activity than that of the parent pentapeptide. Because PSK-α promotes proliferation and differentiation during the plant growth we undertook the studies on the influence of PSK-α on plant defense mechanisms in that period. In present studies on PSK-α (I), PSK-β (II), and its analogues, we performed a search of another biological properties. The aim of our investigation was evaluation of PSK-α, PSK-β and their selected analogues in relation to growth and development of plant pathogens, such as Phoma narcissi and Botrytis tulipae. In these studies we elaborated the synthesis of PSK-α or PSK-β and their 22 analogues modified by natural and non-natural amino acid residues. Peptides were synthesized by the solid phase method according to the Fmoc procedure on a Wang-resin. Free peptides were released from the resin by 95% TFA in the presence of EDT. Biological effect of these peptides was evaluated by test on the growth and development of pathogens of P. narcissi and B. tulipae.

The aim of present study was to evaluate mechanisms involved in thermomodulatory effect LPK in rats.Experiments were performed on adult Wistar male rats. LPK was applied either intracerebroventricularly (icv), or intraperitoneally (ip) using the similar program and technique of experiments as in our previous study. We confirmed in this paper the results of our previous reports that icv administration LPK at the dose of 20 nmol induced evident significant rectal hypothermia, while lower dose LPK of 1 nmol icv exerted significant hyperthermic effect. Peripherally applied LPK at the range of doses 10-100 nmol/100 g ip displayed slight bimodal (hyperthermic and hypothermic) effect on rectal temperature. Prior administration of haloperidol, an antagonist of central dopamine receptors blocked both effects LPK applied either icv or ip. Obtained results indicate that both hypothermic and hyperthermic effects LPK are also modulated by central dopaminergic receptors.

Opis:
Poneratoxin (molecular weight 2932) is a 25 amino acid neuropeptide, isolated from an ant venom. It affects excitability of nerve and muscle fibres by changing the kinetics of the voltage-dependent sodium channel. The aim of the study was to investigate the analgetic effect of synthetic poneratoxin (PoTX) in adult female Wistar rats. In the first part of the study the animals received PoTX intracerebroventricularly. The analgetic effect was evaluated by a tail immersion test. In the second part of the experiment the analgetic effect of PoTX was blocked with naloxone, an opioid receptors antagonist. The study showed that poneratoxin exerts the analgetic effect in rats and this effect is not mediated by central opioid system. Therefore it was concluded that other mechanism is resposible for the effect of PoTX.

Opis:
MAS MT is a myotropic decapeptide isolated from Manduca sexta. This peptide exerts stimulatory effect on insects heart-beat frequency. The present study was undertaken in order to determine a probable antinociceptive effect in rats of native synthetic decapeptide, MAS MT-I and its two analogs, heptapeptides MAS MT-II and MAS MT-III. All these peptides were applied directly into the lateral brain ventricle (icv) at three doses: 10, 25 and 50 nmol. The analgesic (antinociceptive) effect was evaluated by a tail immersion test. It was found that two doses of MAS MT-I: 25 and 50 nmol induced significant antinociceptive effect, while MAS MT-II and MAS MT-III exert a less antinociceptive effect in comparison with native MAS MT-I. Prior icv administration of naloxone, an opioid antagonist weakly blocked MAS MT-I effect. We conclude that antinociceptive effect of MAS MT-I in rats is not mediated by central opioid system.

Opis:
New biological properties of selected insect peptides are presented. The subjects of the investigation included insect oostatic peptides, like Neb-colloostatin (I) and Neb-TMOF(II), and/or insect peptides with antiviral or antitumor activity, such as alloferon (III) and its analogues modified at position 1 of the peptide chain. In the study was also included the oligopeptide Any-GS (VII) and its truncated analogues. The peptides were tested for antimicrobial activity on a series of bacterial species, antiviral activity against Human Herpes Virus type 1 (HHV-1) in vitro using a Vero cell line, and the growth and development of plant pathogens Phoma narcissi and Botrytis tulipae. The results of the biological investigations indicate that among the peptides investigated, compounds VII and IX inhibit the growth of plant pathogens P. narcissi and B. tulipae, whereas compounds I and II stimulate the mycelium growth of the aforementioned pathogens. Other peptides show slow antimicrobial activity but do not inhibit the replication of HHV-1 in Vero cells.
