Opis:
Aberrant expression of sialic acids or altered linkage types is closely associated with malignant phenotype and metastatic potential, and can have prognostic significance in human cancer. The present study was undertaken to evaluate whether expression of sialylated derivatives on melanoma cell surface is associated with tumour progression. Four cell lines (WM1552C, WM115, IGR-39 and WM266-4) were used in the study. Cell surface expression of sialic acids was evaluated by flow cytometry with the use of Maackia amurensis and Sambucus nigra lectins. Moreover, adhesion and migration potential of melanoma cells and involvement of sialic acids in these processes were analysed. We have demonstrated that WM266-4 cells have a significantly higher level of α2,3-linked sialic acid residues than other cells, whereas IGR-39 cells had lower expression of α2,6-linked sialic acids. The adhesion efficiencies of WM1552C and WM115 cells were significantly lower than that of IGR-39 and WM266-4 cells. In contrast, WM266-4 cells repaired scratch wounds at least twice as fast as other cells. Melanoma cell adhesion to fibronectin in the presence of Sambucus nigra agglutinin (SNA) was reduced only in IGR-39 and WM266-4 cells, whereas the impact of Maackia amurensis agglutinin (MAA) on this process was much more important. Migration efficiency of melanoma cells was reduced more strongly in the presence of MAA than SNA. In conclusion, our results show that melanoma progression is associated with the increased expression of α2,3-linked sialic acids on the cell surface and these residues could promote melanoma cell interaction with fibronectin.

Wyroby epoksydowe, stosowane w elektrotechnice jako elementy izolacyjne, powinny charakteryzować się wysoką wytrzymałością elektryczną i mechaniczną. Kompozycja epoksydowa po utwardzeniu nie spełnia takich wymagań. Dlatego też materiały te wypełnia się dodatkami mineralnymi, wśród których najpopularniejsze są te bazowane na tlenku krzemu. W artykule porównano wpływ trzech mikrowypełniaczy (mączka kwarcowa, mączka bazaltowa, chelcedonit) w kompozytach z matrycą dianową na właściwości mechaniczne (wytrzymałość na zginanie) oraz elektryczne (wytrzymałość na przebicie). Wszystkie kompozyty otrzymywano z zastosowaniem takiej samej technologii, wprowadzając 60% wag. dodatków mineralnych w postaci czystej lub równowagowej mieszaniny dwóch różnych minerałów. Dodatkowo zbadano właściwości termiczne i morfologiczne zastosowanych wypełniaczy z użyciem metod analizy termicznej i mikroskopii skaningowej.

Wyroby epoksydowe stosowane w elektrotechnice, jako elementy izolacyjne, powinny charakteryzować się wysoką wytrzymałością elektryczną i mechaniczną. Kompozycja epoksydowa, po utwardzeniu nie spełnia takich wymagań. Dlatego też materiały te wypełnia się dodatkami mineralnymi, wśród których najpopularniejsze są te bazowane na tlenku krzemu. W artykule porównano wpływ trzech mikrowypełniaczy (mączka kwarcowa, mączka bazaltowa, chelcedonit) w kompozytach z matrycą dianową na właściwości mechaniczne (wytrzymałość na zginanie) oraz elektryczne (wytrzymałości na przebicie). Kompozyty otrzymywano z zastosowaniem takiej samej technologii przetwórstwa, wprowadzając 60% wag. dodatków w postaci czystej lub mieszanej. Dodatkowo, zbadano właściwości termiczne i morfologiczne zastosowanych wypełniaczy z użyciem metod: analiza termiczna i mikroskopia skaningowa.

This article explores the experiences of the institutionalization and crisis of the sociology of work in Poland by analyzing the narratives of the doyens of the sociology of work in the country. It is argued that the institutionalization of sociology of work in the 1960s and 1970s reflected the requirements of the socialist industrialization of the country and its crisis (lasting from the end of 1980s) has political and economic roots related to systemic transformation. Simultaneously, some parallels between the situation of the sociology of work before and after 1989 are noted, including the challenges of cooperation between sociologists and industry. The empirical data in the article come from the research project carried out the Sociology of Work Section of the Polish Sociological Association based on the narrative interviews with the academic sociologists of work and plant sociologists who began their careers in the period of state socialism in Poland.

Gluten, which is a protein found in wheat, can trigger some gastrointestinal diseases in people with genetic predisposition. Gluten related disorders include celiac disease (CD), wheat allergy, baker’s asthma and non-celiac gluten sensivity (NCGS). Approximately 1% of population suffers from celiac disease. It is believed, that the occurrence of the disease is determined by the interaction of genetic, immunological and environmental factors. The consequence of the inflammatory process is the atrophy of the intestinal villi. That results in impaired bowel motility, improper digestion and impaired absorption of substances contained in the diet. Wheat allergy occurs among people with a genetic predisposition to allergies. People with this disorder are sensitized to products containing gluten and every contact with this antigen leads to mast cell activation and the release of mediators of the allergic reaction - mainly histamine. They mainly affect the skin (urticaria, atopic eczema, angioedema), digestive system (nausea, vomiting, spasmic abdominal pain) and respiratory tract (asthma, allergic rhinitis). Baker’s asthma is an interesting and common allergic, occupational disorder related to inhalation of flour containing gluten. The main symptoms include: conjunctivitis, rhinitis, dermatitis, as well as work-related cough and dyspnea. First reports on non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) appeared in 1980. The diagnosis of non-celiac gluten sensitivity is based on the exclusion of celiac disease and food allergy in a patient who has symptoms induced by ingestion of gluten. The exact pathomechanism of this disease is still unknown. Interestingly, some researches doubt that this disorder is caused by gluten intake. All of the above-mentioned diseases have a similar spectrum of clinical symptoms, and as part of the treatment require an elimination diet with the exclusion of gluten. The aim of this study is to provide information on gluten-related diseases, taking into account their pathomechanism and clinical picture.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the paper was the identification of 4.0 competences that should be characterized by logistics workers in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. Design/methodology/approach: First step was the desk research analysis of source material (monographic studies, publications and reports). The second step were primary (fragmentary) explanatory, descriptive and explanatory, focused on the implementation of one research goal. The method used in the course of the study was the "user-centric" CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview). Findings: Technologization and robotization require from employees to acquire new digital competences. Studies show that logistics workers are aware of the needed change. There is a need to acquire competences 4.0 which can consist of cognitive, informative and technical competences. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of the research was the availability of employees in logistics companies and the precise division of enterprises in which the respondents were employed. In the available statistical summaries and address databases, there is no division taking into account the place of logistics as an element of business activities in enterprises. Practical implications: Research can be also a signpost for employers of what kind of competences should be developed in the future in the face of upcoming economy 5.0 and society 5.0. Originality/value: The article can be a road-map for sustainable digital transformation taking into account not only machines but also human beings.

The brain-gut axis is a complex system of connections between the central nervous system (CNS) and the digestive tract. Information within the axis is transmitted through many pathways (neural, endocrine, metabolic, immunological) and is strongly dependent on the microbiota inhabiting the gut. Therefore, the brain-gut axis is also called the “brain-gut-enteric microbiota axis”. Many studies are carried out to determine how it functions but the exact mechanism is still poorly understood. Unraveling the mystery of brain-gut-enteric microbiota axis seems to be crucial in understanding of many diseases and processes governing the human body.

Opis:
The discovery of bacterium Helicobacter pylori and the association of its occurrence with gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, was one of the most significant events of the 20th century. Almost 40 years have passed since that event, but we are still far from fully understanding of the impact of H. pylori infection on the human body. It is confirmed, that the infection causes chronic gastritis, which increases the risk of diseases such as: duodenal and/or gastric ulcer, gastric cancer and gastric MALT lymphoma. Nevertheless, constantly appear new studies linking H. pylori with many other disorders, often not directly related to the digestive system. Cardiovascular, neurological, hematological, dermatological, metabolic and also gynecological diseases are in sphere of assumptions. The authors of the following work attempted to select key information available in the medical literature on the discovery of H. pylori, epidemiology and pathophysiology of infection, as well as diseases to which it predisposes and the latest methods of eradication.

Opis:
Anxiety disorders belong to the most common psychiatric diagnosis. Over the years, benzodiazepines were considered the gold standard for pharmacological treatment of anxiety. They are effective anxiolytics, but unfortunately the long-term use of benzodiazepines is accompanied by many adverse events. An alternative to classical anxiolytics is a relatively new class of psychotherapeutic drugs – azapirones. They are 5-HT1A partial agonists commonly used in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder and as augmentation for SSRI in social anxiety disorder and depression. Due to the high ratio of benefits to risk, azapirones are extensively studied for their use in other disease entities. The aim of this article was to overviewed current information on azapirones. Their history of development, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, interactions, clinical use and their role in the modern pharmacotherapy of anxiety.
