Opis:
Plants have been an important source of medicine for thousands of years. Medicinal plants are the most important source of life saving drugs. Even today, the WHO estimates that up to 80 per cent of people still rely mainly on traditional remedies such as herbs for their medicines. Medicinal plants are resources of new drugs. Approximately one quarter of prescribed drugs contain plant extracts or active ingredients obtained from plant substances. Medicinal plants are the most important source of life saving drugs for the majority of the world’s population. The biotechnological tools are important to select, multiply and conserve the critical genotypes of medicinal plants. In-vitro regeneration holds tremendous potential for the production of high-quality plant-based medicine. An efficient protocol was developed for high frequency and rapid regeneration was achieved in Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal. Invitro cultures were initiated by meristematic explants on M.S–B5 medium with various growth hormones individually as well as combinations. Highest shoot multiplication rates were observed when explants grown in the medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/l of BAP. M.S–B5 medium fortified with 1.0 mg/l BAP was found suitable for optimum growth and elongation of shoots. The best rooting response were observed when the medium containing 1.0 mg/l of IBA. The rooted plantlets were successfully established in soil.

Opis:
A numerical investigation to discuss the effects of radiation and variable viscosity on heat and mass transfer characteristics of natural convection over a horizontal surface embedded in a saturated porous medium in the presence of internal heat generation is carried out in this study. The working fluid for the investigation is optically thick gray gas. The Dufour and Soret effects are also taken into account. Similarity transformations are employed to obtain nonlinear ordinary differential equations from the governing equations of the present problem. The numerical results for the transformed governing equations are computed by using commercial boundary value problem solver for ordinary differential equations. The effects are discussed by varying the parameters such as radiation, Dufour and Soret numbers, buoyancy ratio, Prandtl number, Schmidt number, and variable viscosity. Presence of internal heat generation enhances the velocity profile and significantly decreases the concentration boundary layer thickness. On increasing fluid radiation, the temperature of the fluid is higher than that of the surface and the concentration boundary layer thickness decreases away from the surface.

Opis:
The present study was aimed to develop a cost-effective and efficient protocol for mass propagation of high-quality seedlings through tissue culture by using seaweed extract as biostimulants instead of synthetic chemicals. The nodal explant of field grown W. somnifera estabilised on Murashige and Skoogs medium (MS) and Gamborg B5 medium supplemented with six concentration of 2,4 D. The percentage of culture response from the nodal explant ranged from 44 to 80 and 3.0 mg l-1 2,4 D found to be best for callus induction. MS media containing different concentration of seaweed extract (10, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 %) were tested individually for shoot induction. The medium supplemented with 40 % seaweed extract exhibited maximum number of shoots with about 8.6 shoots/ callus and 80 % seaweed extract exhibited 4.3 shoots/ callus. It is evident from this study that seaweed extracts can be used as substitute for synthetic growth hormones for micropropagation of medicinally important plant W. somnifera for clonal propagation and conservation.

Opis:
Acoustic emission is one of the effective techniques used for the condition monitoring of rolling element bearings. Contamination is one of the major reasons for bearing early failure due to presence of solid particle in lubricant grease. In most cases, outer race is stationary and the inner race is attached to the rotating assembly. The lubrication is very essential for the bearing to perform under various demanding conditions. The main aim of this project is to analyze the effect of contamination of lubricant by solid particles on the dynamic behavior of rolling bearing. Green sand at three concentration levels 5%, 15%, 25% and different particle sizes 75 μm, 106 μm and 150μm is used to contaminate the lubricant. Experimental tests have been performed for different load and speed condition in good and contaminated ball bearings lubricated with grease. The trends in the amount of AE waves affected by the contamination of the grease were determined. Acoustic emission signals were analyzed in terms of RMS, kurtosis, and peak-peak.

Opis:
In the present investigation, a comparative study was made on the effect of exogenous addition of sodium chloride on net leaf photosynthesis (CO2 uptake) in Aegiceras corniculatum (L.) Blanco, a dicotyledonous mangrove species. The net leaf photosynthesis of A. corniculatum was modified in the presence of sodium chloride, it may be called a preferential halophyte. Salinity is one of the most significant environmental challenges also abiotic constraints limiting plant productivity. A. corniculatum could tolerate up to 800 mM sodium chloride concentrations. The net leaf photosynthesis rate was increased with increasing NaCl salinity up to 400 mM. This concentration was found to be the optimum salinity level for this species. In conclusion, it may be inferred that sodium chloride promoted the photosynthesis concentrations upto optimum level of 400 mM in Aegiceras corniculatum (L.) Blanco. beyond 400 mM NaCl decreased the CO2 uptake. The maximum photosynthetic obtained at 400 mM NaCl on the l20th day.

Opis:
Interests in Closed-Loop Supply Chain (CLSC) issues are growing day by day within the academia, companies, and customers. Many papers discuss profitability or cost reduction impacts of remanufacturing, but a very important point is almost missing. Indeed, there is no guarantee about the amounts of return products even if we know a lot about demands of first products. This uncertainty is due to reasons such as companies’ capabilities in collecting End-of-Life (EOL) products, customers’ interests in returning (and current incentives), and other independent collectors. The aim of this paper is to deal with the important gap of the uncertainties of return products. Therefore, we discuss the forecasting method of return products which have their own open-loop supply chain. We develop an integrated two-phase methodology to cope with the closed-loop supply chain design and planning problem. In the first phase, an Adaptive Network Based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is presented to handle the uncertainties of the amounts of return product and to determine the forecasted return rates. In the second phase, and based on the results of the first one, the proposed multi-echelon, multi-product, multi-period, closed-loop supply chain network is optimized. The second-phase optimization is undertaken based on using general exact solvers in order to achieve the global optimum. Finally, the performance of the proposed forecasting method is evaluated in 25 periods using a numerical example, which contains a pattern in the returning of products. The results reveal acceptable performance of the proposed two-phase optimization method. Based on them, such forecasting approaches can be applied to real-case CLSC problems in order to achieve more reliable design and planning of the network.

Opis:
Cadmium oxide nanostructures were prepared by microwave assisted wet chemical technique at different time intervals. Results on structural, optical, and thermal properties of the CdO nanostructures as a function of the microwave irradiation were reported. The X-ray diffraction data indicates that the sample showed perfection in the microstructural improvement as a function of microwave irradiation. Surface morphological changes with different time of microwave irradiation were recorded by transmission electron microscope and the particle size were found in the ranges from 5 to 30 nm. Chemical composition and thermal stability of the samples were analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectrum and thermogravimetric analysis, respectively. The band gaps were shifted towards the blue region due to the Moss-Burstein effect and it exhibited direct band transitions, which corresponds to optical band gaps of 3.92-4.20 eV and contrast behavior of optical properties of CdO nanostructure in UV and IR regions were registered. Room temperature photoluminescence spectra revealed that the intensity of luminescent emission tends to decrease with the increase in exposure of microwave irradiation.

Opis:
The conventional method of treating pulp and paper mill effluent involves the biological oxidation by bacterial action of aerobic and anaerobic conditions and aerobic lagooning method, which are less efficiency of removing COD. To overcome the drawbacks of the existing treatment process, in the present work an attempt has been made to study the electro oxidative destruction of the pulp and paper mill effluent using an electrochemical method and the effect of various parameters such as concentration of supporting electrolytes, current densities, flow rates of electrolyte and reservoir volumes of the effluent were conducted. From the experimental results it is observed that the rate of reduction of COD of the effluent increased with an increase in the supporting electrolyte (sodium chloride) concentration, current density where as it decreased with increase in the reservoir volume and the flow rate of electrolyte. The residence time distributions studies have also been conducted to study the behavior of the electrochemical reactor.
