Opis:: Madelung deformity consists of excessive ulnar and palmar angulation of the distal radius. It may also involve the radiocapitellar joint and the sagittal bow of the radius. Commonly, the disease becomes clinically apparent in young adolescents with wrist deformity, pain and limited range of movement. There are multiple options for operative treatment. We retrospectively assessed a 14-year-old-girl treated in our department. The patient required treatment due to exacerbating pain in both wrists. The left hand underwent resection of the distal ulna; however, persistent pain led to the decision to perform the radio-lunate arthrodesis (RL). The right hand was treated according to the Sauvé-Kapandji procedure. Three years post-surgery, the patient was called for a follow-up examination. The assessment included measuring the range of motion using a goniometer, grip strength with a dynamometer, and evaluating follow-up wrist X-rays in lateral and posteroanterior views. The patient has also been evaluated using the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaires. Three years post-operation, the patient reported the absence of rest pain and occasional pain during loading. With the Sauvé-Kapandji procedure, a greater range of palmar flexion of the wrist and improved strength was achieved. The patient scored 5.83 points on the DASH scale, 9.5 points on the left hand, and 8.5 points on the right hand on the PRWE scale. In this patient’s case, better outcomes were achieved by employing the Sauvé-Kapandji procedure. The patient’s right-handedness may have influenced the results.
Zniekształcenie Madelunga obejmuje nadmierne pochylenie łokciowe i odchylenie dłoniowe powierzchni stawowej dalszej kości promieniowej, może również obejmować staw promieniowo-łokciowy dalszy i zagięcie trzonu kości promieniowej. Choroba najczęściej staje się klinicznie widoczna u młodych nastolatków objawiając się: zniekształceniem nadgarstka, bólem i ograniczeniem zakresu ruchu. Istnieje wiele opcji leczenia operacyjnego. Opisano retrospektywnie pacjentkę z obustronną deformacją Madelunga leczoną operacyjnie w wieku 14 lat. Chora wymagała leczenia z powodu nasilającego się bólu w obu nadgarstkach. Po stronie lewej wykonano resekcję głowy kości łokciowej, a następnie artrodezę promieniowo księżycowatą, a po stronie prawej operację metodą Sauvé-Kapandji. Ocena po 3 latach obejmowała pomiar zakresu ruchu za pomocą goniometru, siły chwytu przy użyciu dynamometru oraz ocenę radiologiczną nadgarstka w projekcjach bocznych i tylno-przednich. Przeprowadzono również ocenę za pomocą kwestionariuszy Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) i Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH). Trzy lata po operacji pacjentka nie zgłaszała bólu w spoczynku i tylko okazjonalny ból podczas przeciążania kończyn. Stwierdzono większą siłę oraz zakres zgięcia dłoniowego nadgarstka po stronie wykonanej procedury Sauvé-Kapandji. Chora uzyskała 5,83 punktów w skali DASH oraz 9,5 punktów w skali PRWE w ocenie lewej ręki i 8,5 punktu w ocenie ręki prawej. Lepsze wynik osiągnięto dzięki zastosowaniu procedury Sauvé-Kapandji. Potwierdzają to lepszy zakres ruchu, większa siła i mniejszy ból podczas obciążania kończyny. Praworęczność pacjenta mogła mieć wpływ na uzyskane wyniki.

Opis:: A multi-layer model is used to calculate time-dependent sediment velocity and concentration vertical profiles. This model, in which the differences in sediment transport at different distances from the bed are considered is intended both for the wave motion and steady flow. Numerical calculations were carried out for sediment transport during the wave crest and trough and total sediment transport as a sum of their absolute values. The model concept of variation in shear stress from the skin stress value above the bed to the stress value at the bed previously proposed for steady flow is extended here for the wave motion and verified by direct stress measurements. The calculations were carried out for mixed sand sediments with different grain size distributions including semi-uniform and poorly sorted grains. Comparison with the available small- and large -scale data from flumes and oscillating tunnels yields agreement typically within plus/minus a factor two of measurements.

Opis:: In the central nervous system (CNS) generation of new neurons continues throughout adulthood, when it is limited to the olfactory bulb and hippocampus. The knowledge regarding the function of newly-generated neurons remains limited and is vigorously investigated using diverse approaches. Among these are genetically modified mice, most of them of knock-out type (KO). Results from 23 diverse KO mouse models demonstrate the importance of particular proteins (growth factors, nitric oxide synthases, receptors, cyclins/cyclin-associated proteins, transcription factors, etc.) in adult neurogenesis (ANGE) as well as separate it from developmental neurogenesis. These results bring us closer to revealing the function of newly generated neurons in adult brains.

Opis:: Small advanced turboprop and turboshaft engines, with two-stage high-pressure turbine (HPT), need to meet several challenges. Described herein is an exemplary solution adopted for a cantilevered HPT nozzle mounting and sealing system that helped to meet requirements for size constraint and sealing of split lines and mounting features. Since clearances do not scale down with engine size due to manufacturing tolerances, there is a very limited space available between first and second stage rotors to secure HPT nozzle and to provide means of cooling air supply. Due to small diameters, cavities and size of the parts and assembly access becomes very difficult and precluded the use of typical solutions – like supply air spooilers – known from bigger engines. Relatively larger clearances require also efficient solution for sealing leakage, which was achieved by means of high-temperature braided “rope seals”. The nozzle segments have weight effective hook-type outer band mounting to HPT outer casing and are axially retained by HPT shroud with a snap ring. The hook cavities were used as pockets for rope seals that are subsequently compressed during assembly making it more difficult. However, by special design of the pockets and parts engagement sequence, the assembly process was optimized even though it is so called blind assembly. The sealing system function is not only reducing leakages that are detrimental to a turbine efficiency, but also allow for pressurizing the cavity between the nozzle outer band and HPT outer casing with cooling air thus preventing from hot gas ingestion by higher back-flow margin (BFM) resulting in higher durability of the turbine.

Opis:: Background. The article is an attempt to present the risk of overloading the motor system in prisoners who practice physical activity in their leisure time. Material and methods. The study was conducted among 50 imprisoned people taking up strength training in circumstances allowing them to decide about the frequency and course of particular sessions, and the size of the applied loads. The research tool was an interview based on the standardized Recovery Scoring Guide questionnaire by Kenttä and Hassmén, evaluating activities that reduce the risk of overload. The interview was extended by a short questionnaire interview of the researchers’ design. Results and conclusions. Only 12% of the responders performed activities reducing the risk of the motor system overload in a way not requiring any modification; 56% practiced the activities incorrectly, with a need for some changes. The authors suggest implementing organizational and educational interventions in prisons in order to reduce the risk of overloading the locomotor system among prisoners who practice strength training in their spare time.

Opis:: Studies on floristic diversity, yielding and calorific value of biomass of communities with a dominance of 10 native grass species were conducted in the years 2013-2018 over an area of 180 ha in the Noteć River valley in the Trzcianka–Wieleń– Krzyż Wielkopolski stretch. The species composition, the percentage shares of the dominant species and the other plant groups were investigated in these plant communities. Moreover, habitat conditions, yielding and fodder value were determined. The calorific value, heat of combustion, ash content and moisture content in a dry biomass were recorded. Results indicate that the investigated communities differ in terms of habitat conditions, floristic composition, as well as yielding and fodder value of the sward. Moreover, harvested plant biomass characterised by high calorific value and heat of combustion as well as low ash content, thus facilitating pellet production for energy generation.
Badania nad różnorodnością florystyczną, plonowaniem oraz wartością energetyczną biomasy zbiorowisk z dominacją 10 gatunków rodzimych traw, przeprowadzono w latach 2013-2018 w dolinie Noteci, na odcinku Trzcianka–Wieleń–Krzyż Wlkp., na obszarze o powierzchni 180 ha. Określono skład botaniczny zbiorowisk, procentowy udział dominanta oraz pozostałych grup roślinnych. Ponadto określono warunki siedliskowe, plonowanie oraz wartość użytkową. Zbadano wartość energetyczną, ciepło spalania, zawartość popiołu i wilgotność w suchej masie. Otrzymane wyniki wskazują, że badane zbiorowiska różnią się uwarunkowaniami siedliskowymi składem florystycznym, a także pod względem plonowania i wartości użytkowej runi. Ponadto, zebraną masę roślinną cechuje wysoka wartość energetyczna i ciepło spalania oraz niska zawartość popiołu, co umożliwia produkcję z niej peletu dla celów energetycznych.

Opis:: This article provides a simulation and laboratory study of a control system for a two-wheeled differential-drive mobile robot with ROS system. The authors propose an approach to designing a control system based on a parametric model of the robot’s dynamics. The values of unknown parameters of the dynamic model have been determined by means of a Levenberg-Marguardt identification method. By comparing the desired trajectories with those obtained from simulation and laboratory tests, and based on errors analysis, the correctness of the model parameter identification process and the control system operation was then determined.
W artykule przedstawiono badania symulacyjne i laboratoryjne systemu sterowania dwukołowym robotem mobilnym o napędzie różnicowym, z systemem ROS. Autorzy zaproponowali podejście projektowania systemu sterowania w oparciu o parametryczny model dynamiki robota. Wartości nieznanych parametrów modelu dynamiki wyznaczono przeprowadzając ich identyfikację metodą Levenberga-Marguardta. Następnie porównując trajektorie zadane z otrzymanymi na drodze badań symulacyjnych i laboratoryjnych, a także na podstawie analizy uchybów określono poprawność procesu identyfikacji parametrów modelu i działania systemu sterowania.
