They are presented in the context of the permanent exhibition of mediaeval sculpture created in the Collegium Maius. The set of Silesian stained glass is subject to study under an NCN grant is the main subject. The Collegium Maius has a rich collection of painting, consisting of 1423 paintings. Both Polish and foreign paintings on diverse themes are represented. Among them there are 832 portraits, while the remaining 591 paintings represent religious themes, genre painting and landscape. There are portraits of various personages connected with the history the Kraków Alma Mater: Polish rulers, Chancellors of the Kraków Academy, professors, their families and other persons connected with the university in some ways. The aim of this article is to present the Academy Gallery – in this case exclusively portraits of professors. There are 307 portraits of outstanding professors of the Jagiellonian University – from the earliest works dating from the 16th century to contemporary paintings. Neither in Poland nor abroad portraits of academics have been subject of more comprehensive studies so far. It is only for two decades that interest in academic portrait has been growing. Catalogues of university collections containing portraits of university professors have been published in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland and other countries. Among the earliest such catalogues is the one representing the collection of the University of Helsinki. This paper refers to the article by Pia Vuorikoski, tiled Galleria Academica: a Portrait Collection of the University of Helsinki, which appeared in the same issue of Opuscula Musealia (20). The most recent publication on academic portraits is the book which saw print in Kraków in 2010, presenting a study on a group of portraits of the Kraków Academy professors. The term: “phenomeon of academic portrait” was used for the first time in that publication. The surviving portraits of professors in the Jagiellonian University collection testify to the long-established tradition of creating portrait galleries. The tradition is still continued. Regardless of their artistic value, they are unique pieces of historical evidence which, through the history of persons portrayed, document the history of the earliest Polish university - the Kraków Alma Mater.

Opis:
Dissemination of algorithms for decision-making aiding in the design of furniture and other products made of lignocellulosic materials in the scientific literature. The issue of the proper selection of dimensions of the designed products can be supported with the use of mathematical algorithms built into CAD systems. There are many such algorithms, they have their specificity and areas of application. The article lists a dozen or so of the most popular algorithms of this type, and then checks their prevalence in the scientific literature on furniture design. The result is a point the method (group of methods) that best takes into account the specific features of lignocellulosic materials. The main conclusion is that the most popular algorithms are: the ε-constraint method, genetic algorithms and artificial immune systems. The most popular is the ε-constraint method.
Upowszechnienie w literaturze naukowej algorytmów wspomagających podejmowanie decyzji w projektowaniu mebli i innych wyrobów z materiałów lignocelulozowych. Zagadnienie właściwego doboru wymiarów projektowanych wyrobów może być wspomagane za pomocą algorytmów matematycznych wbudowanych w systemy CAD. Takich algorytmów jest wiele, mają one swoją specyfikę i obszary zastosowań. W artykule wymieniono kilkanaście najpopularniejszych algorytmów tego typu, a następnie sprawdzono ich rozpowszechnienie w literaturze naukowej dotyczącej projektowania mebli. Wynikiem jest metoda punktowa (grupa metod), która najlepiej uwzględnia specyficzne cechy materiałów lignocelulozowych. Główny wniosek jest taki, że najpopularniejsze algorytmy to: metoda ε-ograniczenia, algorytmy genetyczne i sztuczne układy odpornościowe. Najpopularniejsza jest metoda z ograniczeniem.

On the 1st of. May 2015, in Meatpacking District of West Manhattan, the new building of the Whitney Museum of American Art was opened. It is the fourth location of this well-known New York museum, which was established in 1930, by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. The Whitney possesses the world’s largest collection of American art and focuses on exhibiting living artists. Spectacular, industrial in character architecture signed by Renzo Piano has met with mixed reactions. The building is functional and well connected with the post-industrial site, however, not appreciated by everyone. Similar situation happened forty years ago, when Centre of Georges Pompidou, designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, pioneers of high-tech architecture, was widely criticised. Only popularity, high attendance and commercial success of famous Paris facility changed that negative opinion. Is the New Whitney following the same path – time will tell.
1 maja 2015 r., w zaułku zachodniego Manhattanu zwanym Meatpacking, otwarta została nowa siedziba Whitney Museum of American Art. Jest to już czwarta lokalizacja tego znanego nowojorskiego muzeum, założonego w 1930 r. przez rzeźbiarkę Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. Muzeum posiada największą na świecie kolekcję amerykańskiej sztuki współczesnej. Jego działalność koncentruje się na promocji twórczości artystów żyjących. Oryginalna, industrialna w wyrazie architektura, autorstwa pracowni Renzo Piano, wzbudziła mieszane uczucia. Pomimo, że budynek jest funkcjonalny i znakomicie powiązany z miejscowym poprzemysłowym kontekstem, nie wszystkim przypadł do gustu. Podobna sytuacja miała już miejsce 40 lat temu w Paryżu, kiedy krytykowano nowatorskie Centrum Pompidou, wspólne dzieło architektów Renzo Piano i Richarda Rogersa, pionierów stylu współczesnej architektury nazwanego high-tech. Dopiero wielka popularność i sukces frekwencyjny słynnej paryskiej „rafinerii” spowodował zmianę ocen tego obiektu. Czy tak się też stanie w wypadku nowej siedziby Muzeum Whitney w Nowym Jorku – czas pokaże.

Opened in January 2019, the Museum Susch crowned the collecting efforts of Grażyna Kulczyk, who, following her failed attempts at establishing a contemporary art Museum in Poznan and Warsaw, finally found home for her collection in a small Swiss village located between two Alps resorts: Sankt Moritz and Davos. The combination of both spectacular mountainous landscape and the edifices of an old convent into which the display has been built, as well as the purposefully created art pieces, contribute to creating a peculiar atmosphere of the place. Nature, architecture, and art have all merged into one total work here, namely into a contemporary Gesamtkunstwerk. Poland is echoed in the Museum: e.g. the genuine name of the institution: ‘Muzeum Susch’ is a combination of Polish and German words; furthermore, the pieces presented in the collection are to a great extent made up of works by contemporary Polish artists; wooden walls of the Museum Café are decorated with prints showing the Zakopane ‘Under Fir Trees’ (Pod Jedlami) Villa. The question whether Grażyna Kulczyk’s collection has found its final home here, or whether it is still possible for it to return to Poland, continues open. The collector herself does not provide an unambiguous answer to this.

Opis:
Three museums of the art of the Pacific and the Far East are described in the paper: Singapore National Gallery, Australian Art Gallery of South Wales in Sydney, and New Zealand’s Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. The institutions have a lot in common: they are all housed in Neo-Classical buildings, raised in the colonial times, and have recently been extended, modernized, as well as adjusted to fulfill new tasks. Apart from displaying Western art, each of them focuses on promoting the art of the native peoples: the Malay, Aborigines, and the Maori. Having been created already in the colonial period as a branch of British culture, they have been transformed into open multicultural institutions which combine the main trends in international museology: infrastructure modernization, collection digitizing, putting up big temporary exhibitions, opening to young people and different social groups, featuring local phenomena, characteristic of the Pacific Region. The museums’ political and social functions cannot be overestimated; their ambition is to become culturally active institutions on a global scale, as well as tools serving to establish a new type of regional identity of postcolonial multicultural character.
W artykule opisane zostały 3 muzea sztuki z rejonu Pacyfiku i Dalekiej Azji: National Gallery w Singapurze, australijska Art Gallery of South Wales w Sydney i Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki w Nowej Zelandii. Instytucje te łączy wiele wspólnych cech. Wszystkie mieszczą się w klasycystycznych budynkach powstałych w czasach kolonialnych, które niedawno zostały rozbudowane, zmodernizowane i przystosowane do nowych zadań. Każde z nich, oprócz eksponowania dzieł sztuki zachodniej, intensywnie promuje sztukę narodów rodzimych: Malajów, Aborygenów i Maorysów. Powstałe w czasach kolonialnych jako odłam kultury brytyjskiej, przekształciły się obecnie w otwarte, wielokulturowe instytucje, które łączą główne nurty występujące w światowym muzealnictwie: modernizację infrastruktury, digitalizację zbiorów, realizowanie dużych wystaw czasowych, otwarcie na młodzież i zróżnicowane grupy społeczne, ze zjawiskami lokalnymi, charakterystycznymi dla regionu Pacyfiku. Ich funkcje polityczne i społeczne są niepodważalne, mają ambicję aby stać się instytucjami kulturotwórczymi istotnymi w skali globalnej, a także narzędziami budowy nowego typu regionalnej tożsamości o postkolonialnym, wielokulturowym charakterze.

Analysis of working conditions in terms of ergonomics is an increasingly popular topic among industrial enterprises. This is primarily due to the development of departments responsible for maintaining safe and healthy working conditions, but also awareness of the impact of working conditions on maintaining safety and maintaining the rhythm of work. Care for working conditions translates into the possibility of maintaining the level of activities performed, which indirectly affects the quality of final products. Conducting activities in the field of shaping ergonomic working conditions in the context of continuous improvement based on the Deming cycle and the principles of conceptual ergonomics seem to be a key approach to care for work safety. Treating this process as a continuous and looped process gives you the ability to react quickly and predict adverse effects. However, constant control, observation, and analysis of the possibilities of implementing improvement solutions is important. The purpose of the article is to compare ergonomic working conditions at selected work stations with the assumptions and plans developed before launching the assembly line. The research included a comparative analysis of results in the form of ergonomic score obtained from TiCon software, based on MTM, UAS, and EAWS methods. The research was carried out at the turn of 2016-2020 in an automotive company dealing in the production of passenger car drive system components.

In the paper the profile and activity of Eli Broad is presented; an American entrepreneur, collector, philanthropist, Broad is one of the wealthiest individuals in the world who has allocated most of his assets to charity. His collecting passion climaxed in The Broad Museum of modern art designed by the New York architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and opened in September 2015 in Downtown Los Angeles. Not only has Eli Broad funded the museum bearing his own name and numerous other buildings designed by the most outstanding modern architects, but many other museum institutions are indebted to this charity.
W artykule omówiona została sylwetka i działalność Elia Broada, amerykańskiego przedsiębiorcy, kolekcjonera i filantropa, jednego z najbogatszych ludzi na świecie, który większość swojego majątku przeznaczył na cele dobroczynne. Zwieńczeniem jego pasji kolekcjonerskiej jest otwarte we wrześniu 2015 r. muzeum sztuki nowoczesnej The Broad, wzniesione w centrum Los Angeles, które zostało zaprojektowane przez znaną nowojorską pracownię Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Eli Broad ufundował nie tylko muzeum swojego imienia i wiele innych budowli projektowanych przez najwybitniejszych współczesnych architektów, także liczne instytucje muzealne zawdzięczają swoje istnienie jego filantropii.

Opis:
Isolation resulting from imprisonment disrupts the way of human natural functioning. It also leads to deprivation of natural human needs which forces the convicts to adapt to new living conditions. Strategies of adaptation among imprisoned women are characterized by kind of intimacy between the inmates and concentration on feelings. Homosexual erotic relationships are very important part of imprisoned women’s social and emotional life though they rarely depend on actual sexual orientation. In the case of imprisoned women, entering into intimate relationships with other inmates is mostly result of the desire to survive, social or emotional factors but also materialistic motives or subculture influence. It has been observed that imprisoned women have tendencies to recreate in prison some relationship patterns to those which occur on freedom and also to engage into emotional and partner relationship. These observations create possibilities for therapeutic and resocialization influence based not only on education process but also on appealing to prisoner’s inner world of feelings and experience.

Numerous human transcripts contain tandem repeats of trinucleotide motifs, the function of which remains unknown. In this study we used the available gene expression EST data to characterize the abundance of a large group of these transcripts in different tissues and determine the mRNAs which had the highest contribution to the observed levels of transcripts containing different types of the CNG repeats. A more extensive characteristics was performed for transcripts containing the CUG repeats, and those encoding the repeat-binding proteins. The scarcity of double-stranded CUG repeats as well as various proportions of the single-stranded and double-stranded CUG repeat-binding proteins were revealed in the studied transcriptomes. The observed correlated levels of transcripts containing single-stranded CUG repeats and of proteins binding single-stranded CUG repeats may imply that in addition to transcripts which only provide binding sites for these proteins there may be a substantial portion of the transcripts whose metabolism is directly regulated by such proteins. Our results showing a highly variable composition of triplet repeat-containing transcripts and their interacting proteins in different tissues may contribute to a better understanding of the mechanism of RNA-mediated pathogenesis in triplet repeat expansion diseases.

Opis:
Celem artykułu jest analiza sektora małej i średniej przedsiębiorczości województwa opolskiego oraz wskazanie znaczenia tego sektora dla gospodarki i rozwoju regionu. Dla osiągnięcia tego celu posłużono się przeglądem literatury z zakresu polityki regionalnej, rozwoju regionów – metoda analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa – oraz dokonano analizy danych statystycznych – metoda porównawcza i statystyczna. Przegląd literatury oraz wskazanie instrumentów wspierających analizowany sektor mają na celu zaprezentowanie problemu nie tylko w skali regionu, ale również na poziomie Unii Europejskiej. Badania wykazały, że sektor MSP w województwie opolskim jest sektorem, rozwój którego wspiera samorząd województwa, jednak wciąż występuje nieumiejętne wykorzystanie środków (np. na poziomie gmin). Wynikają stąd wnioski dla samorządu terytorialnego dotyczące jego większego zaangażowania i bardziej celowego wykorzystania instrumentów będących w jego dyspozycji.
Subject of the article is analysis SME’s sector of opolskie province as well as showing the meaning of mentioned sector for region’s economy and development. Reaching article’s aim was possible within literature review from the scope of regional policy, regions’ development – analisys and literature’s criticism method – and within anlisys of statistic data – comparing and statistic method. Literature review and pointing of instruments supporting analysed sector helped in problem’s presentation not only at the region scale but also at EU level. Research of opolskie province SME’s show that mentioned sector is supported by regional governance but still there are cases of incompetent founds using (at commune level). Conclusions for regional governance concern its bigger commitments and more intentional application of instruments being under its disposal.
