Opis:: In this paper, we introduce a new risk evaluation model for evaluating the navigation safety zone for an entire ship route. This model considers a new algorithm to determine the navigational safety zone in real-time, and also takes the navigation officers’ perception while navigating a ship into consideration. The risk quantification has been developed using a questionnaire and incorporated into the new model. A simulation was carried out for the Osaka bay area in order to verify the usefulness of the proposed model. A new approach was employed to monitor the level of navigation safety along a ship route. The entire ship route is divided into small sections as a gridded matrix. The level of navigation safety can be quantified by means of a safety index on the basis of the ship’s navigation data within a specified distance range. The results show that the comparison between risks identified for different sections across the entire ship route is easy, which helps determine the navigational safety zone quickly. This model is expected to be able to serve as a new tool for managing safety throughout an entire ship route area in real-time in order to support the port safety authority or vessel traffic service center.

Opis:: This study deals with the development of ship watch keeping supporting aids that will be useful for ship deck officers in recognizing navigational harmful obstacles such as sea marks and small floating objects on the sea. The developed watch keeping supporting aids is made up of four components; a composite video sensor to produce video signal, a laser distance measuring part, a Pan/Tilt part and a central control part. The system was installed in a ship in order to verify its performance of the recognition ability on the sea. The comparison was made between the recognition ability of the system and that of watch keeping deck officers’. The image from the watch keeping supporting system was found to be more recognizable than that of a binocular telescope within a 5 km distance. The newly suggested system is expected to be used to recognize small dangerous floating objects more easily when navigation deck officers have a duty of watch keeping for navigation especially near harbor area.

Opis:: The aim of the paper was to present numbers and proportions of researched rural households which members had run own firm in the past or had not had experience in that field in before the moment of the research. Regional diversification and ownership of a farm were also taken into account as factors influencing the rural inhabitants’ entrepreneurial activity. The paper includes also plans of establishment of an own firm in the future by the researched households members. Conclusions made on the basis of own research were embedded within a wider context of other researchers’ results.
W opracowaniu przedstawiono zmiany liczby i odsetka badanych wiejskich gospodarstw domowych, których członkowie w przeszłości mieli doświadczenia w prowadzeniu własnej działalności gospodarczej, bądź też nie byli aktywni w tym zakresie, w okresie przed sytuacją zastaną w trakcie przeprowadzenia badania. Wzięto pod uwagę zróżnicowanie regionalne oraz posiadanie gospodarstwa indywidualnego, jako czynniki różnicujące skalę aktywności przedsiębiorczej i jej zmiany oraz ewentualne plany rozpoczęcia takiej działalności. Rozważania na podstawie badań własnych rozszerzono o szerszy kontekst badań przeprowadzonych przez innych autorów.

Opis:: Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) has emerged as an important pathogen of greenhouse tomato crops and is currently distributed worldwide. Population genetic studies have revealed a shift in the dominant PepMV genotype from European (EU) to Chilean 2 (CH2) in North America and several European countries. New genetic variants are constantly being created by mutation and recombination events. Single nucleotide substitutions in different parts of the genome were found to affect on development of symptoms resulting in new pathotypes and accumulation of viral RNA. The variability of the PepMV population has a great impact on designing specific diagnostic tools and developing efficient and durable strategies of disease control. In this paper we review the current knowledge about the PepMV population, the evolutionary dynamics of this highly infective virus, methods for its detection and plant protection strategies.

Opis:: The effects of de-hulled sunflower seed meal (SFM) samples with different crude protein (CP) and non-starch polysaccharide (NSP) content on apparent metabolizable energy (AME), AME metabolizability (EM) and pre-caecal protein digestibility (pcPD) were examined. The birds were fed one of four mash diets. On a per kilogram basis, the basal diet (BD) contained as major ingredients 549.5 g wheat, 150 g soybean meal and 175 g full fat soybean meal as well as 215.4 g crude protein kg–1 and 12.81 MJ AME kg–1. Another three diets containing 200 g kg–1 of each of three experimental SFM samples in place of the BD were also mixed. Each diet was fed to birds in ten pens with two male Ross 308 broilers ranging in age from 8 to 21 days. Dietary AME was determined from excreta collection between days 17 and 21, while AME, EM and pcPD were determined when the birds were 21 days old. The substitutional method was used to determine AME, EM and pcPD in the SFM samples. The SFM samples high in NSP had lower AME (P = 0.001), EM (P < 0.001) and pcPD (P = 0.005). The beneficial effect of carrying out a further de-hulling of SFM seems to be mediated through reduced NSP content and improved energy and protein bioavailability.

Opis:: An approach to modelling of non-stationary catalytic processes of oil refi ning and petrochemistry is proposed. The computer modelling systems under development take into account the physical and chemical reaction laws, raw materials composition, and catalyst nature. This allows using the software for the optimization of process conditions and equipment design. The models created can be applied for solving complex problems of chemical reactors design; calculation of different variants of industrial plants reconstruction; refi ning and petrochemicals catalysts selection and testing; catalyst service life prolongation; determination of optimum water supply into the alkanes dehydrogenation reactor; optimization of products separation in the benzene alkylation process.

Opis:: Small ruminants represent an important economic source in small farm systems and agriculture. Feed is the main component of livestock farming, which has gained special attention to improve animal performance. Many studies have been done to improve feed utilisation through addition of feed additives. For a long period, antibiotics have been widely used as growth promoters in livestock diets. Due to their ban in many countries, search for alternative feed additives has been intensified. Probiotics are one of these alternatives recognised to be safe to the animals. Use of probiotics in small ruminant nutrition has been confirmed to improve animal health, productivity and immunity. Probiotics improved growth performance through enhancing of rumen microbial ecosystem, nutrient digestibility and feed conversion rate. Moreover, probiotics have been reported to stabilise rumen pH, increase volatile fatty acids production and to stimulate lactic acid utilising protozoa, resulting in a highly efficient rumen function. Furthermore, use of probiotics has been found to increase milk production and can reduce incidence of neonatal diarrhea and mortality. However, actual mechanisms through which probiotics exert these functions are not known. Since research on application of probiotics in small ruminants is scarce, the present review attempts to discuss the potential roles of this class of feed additives on productive performance and health status of these animals.

Opis:: The increasing resistance of community and hospital acquired bacterial strains has become a challenge to the current health policy in Poland. Although some bacteria are known to have a peculiar resistance towards a given agent, antibiotics have a well-established position in clinical practice and are broadly available in our lives. The universal access to antimicrobial therapy and its overuse have created an issue of previously susceptible bacteria now presenting antibiotic resistance. All bacteria that survive antibiotic treatment, continue growth and reproduction. This phenomenon is also observed in livestock rearing. An inadequate implementation of antibiotic therapy leads to the transfer of resistant bacterial strains into the environment of people, who eat products of animal and plant origin. Moreover, the non-compliance to law in terms of antibiotics added to animal fodder or negilgence of withdrawal periods seems to further exacerbate the situation. Various research projects conducted in Poland and elsewhere have demonstrated that antibiotics produce an immunosuppressive effect, which exposes both humans and animals to different infections. Antibiotics also interfere with the growth of many microorganisms, recognized as part of the human and animal physiological microflora, as a result of which dysbacteriosis may develop. In order to limit the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, research should be focus on finding alternative agents based on plant extracts that undergo biodegradation.
