    The style of children (and talking with children), as well as the style of seniors (and talking with old people) are sometimes taken fort specific „age styles”. This article sum[1]marizes an analysis of another „age style”, style ofteenagers. Characteristic features of this style are humor, irony, play, show, exaggeration, and expressiveness. Boys live in an electronic (computerized) world and use its English terminology, but transform it into (Czech) slang. Intertextuality and informal conversation (even in written texts) belong to this style, too. The teenagers like old Czech and old phraseology; they play with word composition and abbreviations, with morphology and syntax; and they do not know much about Czech orthography. The analysis of this interesting „age style” gives us a picture of our young generation - and of the future of our life style.

    The study concems the means of „reproducing" (or paraphrasing) the speech of others in the dialogue. The speech of others or ofthe participant himselfmay be „cited", but it is not literally a citation or reproduction, rather a transfomrntion of the original text. In a spoken dialogue, it is difficult to distinguish between direct speech, indirect speech, free direct speech and free indirect speech, as well as between the „reproduction" of speech actually given (whether by the participant or by others), and the „reproduction" of thoughts (the participants or others). Special attention is given the introductory sentences and connectives.

    Auf Grund der eigenen Eďahrungen, wie auch der theoretischen Arbeiten von· verschiedenen Autoren, ka1m man einen umfangreichen Komplex der Charakteristiken zusammenstellen, die gewohnlich den schriftlichen Texten auf der einen und den milndlichen Texten auf der anderen Seite, zugeschrieben werden. Diese Charakteristiken werden aber nur mit extremen, ,,reinen" Fiillen der mtindlichen und schriftlichen Texte verknilpft; die meisten Texte dagegen kombinieren diese Charakteristiken in unterschied[1]lichen Proportionen, bewegen sich in dem Raum zwischen mtindlichen und schriftlichen Texten, wo sich diese Eigenschaften kreutzen. In einigen Texten oder Textabschnitten werden diese Charakteristiken, diese typischen Zilge - meist absichtlich - aus den schriftlichen Texten in die milndlichen Texte tibergetragen und umgekehrt; hier sprechen wir vorliiufig uber Allusionen, bzw. Zitate, oder eher Quasizitate (d.h. Zitationen des ,,Gesprochenen" im schriftlichen Text und des „Geschriebenen" im mtindlichen Text). Diese speziellen Typen von Allusionen (Zita ten) versuchen wir nach folgenden Kriterien zu klassifizieren und zu beschreiben: 1) was wird i.ibergetragen (aus den mtindlichen in die schriftlichen Texte z.B. · Dialogizitat, Umnittelbarkeit, Emotionalitiit, auffállige Ausdrucksmittel wie Wiederho[1] lung, Rektifikationen, verschiedene Kontaktmittel; aus den schriftlichen in die mtin[1]dlichen Texte z.B. Kondensation, syntaktische Kompliziertheit usw.); 2) warum diese Eigenschaften und Mittel tibergetragen werden: aus den mtindlichen in die schriftlichen Texte z.B. mit dem Ziel, die Authentizitat, Nattirlichkeit des gesprochenen Textes zu erhalten, den Adressaten stiirker zu beeinflussen; die „Zitation des Geschriebenen" in dem mtindlichen Text kann z.B. mit der Iro1ůe, oder mit der Achtung vor dem Geschriebenen motiviert werden; 3) wo und wann (in welchen Situationen und Texttypen) werden diese Transpositionen verwirklicht; 4) wie werden diese Allusionen realisiert, wie werden sie in unterschiedlichen Kontext integriert (mittels Anfiihrungszeichen, Kommentare usw.).

    This páper attempts to interrelate culture (as a set of values produced and received by a specific community, including its artistic and literary production) and language/speechculture/cultiva on. Its point of departure is the classic hierarchy of styles, the differentiation between high style (which is associated with cultivated, and in Czech, exclusively standardlanguage expression), middle and low style. Low style is characterized by the use of non-standard. slang and expressive means and vulgarisms, and currently extends into Czechliteratuře; the style characteristics o f which, in addition to the non-standard means listed above, are contributed to by a significant amount of English loanwords, trendy words and phi ases (often from the media and advertising spheres). The use of all means of low style by the younger generation o f Czech authors is motivated by cnrical attitudes towards thecontemporary consumption-oriented society. This is documented in the páper through examples irom two playwrights (David Drábek, Petr Kolečko) and two poets (Karel Škrabal, JanTesnohlídek, Jr.). The critical orientation of the authors is directed toward the lifestyle of the society - it is, of course, a question, how to evaluate their work from the perspective of languageculture/cultivation.

    In contrast to written language, spoken utterances evince a much higher incidence of deictics, indefinite and pseudo-demonstrative pronouns, contact particles (phatic expressions), specific conjunctions and other connectives, interjections, fillers and hesitation sounds. Corpus-based data should make it possible to attempt a new typology of such expressions (of a broad category of “discourse markers”), independent of the traditional categorization of the parts of speech. The research of spoken Czech syntax must take into account these groups of lexical means that are innate to spoken discourse, i.e. this important area where lexis and syntax meet. Such words as the Czech jako, teda, jakoe, jakoby seem to be semantically vague or empty, but they have a special effect on the connectedness and cohesion of spoken discourse. Moreover, the syntax of spoken discourse has to be investigated in terms of its dialogic and processual nature, inevitably respecting the relationships between utterances and dialogue turns; that is why special attention must be given to “small words” employed at the beginning or end of various types of turns. Their participation in the turn-taking mechanismus, as well as other functions, demonstrates that the “small words” in most cases cannot be regarded as redundant expressions, and that they contribute to the style of spoken discourse.

    The monthly magazine Časostroj (Time Machine), published in the Czech Republic since 2011, is meant to enable “a fun journey into history” for readers aged 7–15. Several years ago, this magazine took 2nd place in a competition organised by the Czech Academy of Sciences for the popularisation of science. The paper considers how this specifically-profiled popularisation of history oscillates between academic (pedagogical, didactic), everyday communicative and “entertainment” styles, as well as how the entertainment function of language and texts is promoted in contemporary communication. Attention is devoted to the fact that in this popularising discourse – probably much more than in scholarly historiography – narration merges with commentary, and historical fiction has a specific use. The selection of topics and historical events is determined witha consideration of young readers, who are transported into history and directly integrated into past events. The magazine’s authors and editors engage their intended readers in continuous dialogue and maintain live contact with them. The paper also presents the various genres which appear in the magazine (from myths, legends and fables to comics, including, e.g. “historical detective stories”). It further recalls and accents everyday life in history in this popularising discourse and its connections to the gender perspective (female perspective), among others. Emphasis is also placed on the educational function of the texts – on how young readers are encouraged to be actively interested in history and to be independent thinkers (e.g. through alternative history).

    The article deals with the specific style coming into existence in contemporary Czech: the style of popular magazines designed for female readers. An interplay of rol es and perspectives of men and women is one of the characteristic features of the style which is realized in various types of stereotype expressions. Some of them are old and traditional. Others (,,feminine" stereotypes) reflect newly formed relationships between men and women. It is interesting to discover and analyze how men and women name themselves and how they name each other, how they categorize sexes, and to what extent they identify themselves with these - more or less stereotypized - denominations.

    The article is devoted to the genre of Festschrift, i.e. a volume dedicated to an eminent scholar in a particular field (linguistics in this case) on the occasion of his or her birthday/jubilee. It focuses on the position of the Festschrift in scientific discourse, its intertextual character and its relationship to other genres with similar communicative intentions (laudatio/eulogy, brief biographical portrait, obituary). It further analyzes the interactional aspects of the Festschrift: the way in which authors of contributions manifest their relationship to the personality and works of the honoree, citing and analyzing his or her opinions, dealing with the honoree’s individual style, utilizing his or her topics or terminology, or reminiscing about collaboration with the scholar. The article also devotes attention to titles of the individual contributions to the volume, their ordering, rhetorical pathos, figurative expression and humorous dedications. Frequently-used speech acts such as thanking, congratulat¬ing, praising and complimenting are also analyzed.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest gatunkowi księgi jubileuszowej – zbioru ofiarowanego wybitnemu specjaliście z jakiejś dziedziny (w tym przypadku z dziedziny lingwistyki) z okazji jego jubileuszu. Rozważane jest miejsce zbioru jubileuszowego w obrębie dyskursu naukowego, zwraca się uwagę na jego intertekstualny charakter i na jego stosunek do innych podobnie motywowanych gatunków (laudacja, portret, nekrolog). Następnie analizowane są interakcyjne aspekty księgi jubileuszowej – w jaki sposób autorzy artykułów manifestują swój stosunek do osoby i dzieła jubilata (cytują lub analizują jego opinie, odnoszą się do jego indywidualnego stylu, podejmują jego tematy bądź terminologię, wspominają swoją z nim współpracę). Uwagę poświęca się także tytułom poszczególnych artykułów w zbiorze, ich układowi, retorycznemu patosowi, figuralnym sposobom wyrazu i pełnym humoru dedykacjom. Analizowane są też najczęściej używane akty mowy, jak podziękowania, gratulacje, pochwały i komplementy.
    Der Aufsatz befasst sich mit der Textsorte Festschrift, d. h. Sammelbänden, die bedeutenden Persönlichkeiten eines Faches (hier: der Linguistik) zu einem Lebensjubiläum gewidmet sind. Er konzentriert sich auf die Position der Jubiläumsfestschriften im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs, ihre intertextuelle Natur und ihre Beziehungen zu anderen Textsorten mit ähnlicher Kommunikationsmotivation (Laudatio, Medaillon, Nekrolog). Ferner werden die interaktionalen Aspekte der Festschrift analysiert: die Art und Weise, wie die Autoren der Beiträge im Sammelband ihre Beziehung zu der Persönlichkeit und zum Werk des Jubilars zum Ausdruck bringen (ob sie ihn zitieren und seine Ansichten erörtern, sich mit seinem Individualstil befassen, seine Themen bzw. Terminologie übernehmen, sich an ihre Zusammenarbeit mit dem Jubilar erinnern usw.). Der Artikel richtet seine Aufmerksamkeit auch auf die Titel der einzelnen Beiträge im Sammelband, die Art und Weise ihrer Reihung, rhetorisches Pathos, figurative Ausdrucksweise und humorvolle, witzige Dedikationen. Auch häufige Sprechakte wie Danksagung, Glückwunsch, Lobpreisung oder Komplimente werden dabei berücksichtigt.

    This article is a part of a large project which aim is a new, corpus-based grammar of contemporary Czech language. It deals with connectives that express meanings from the sphere of time and tense, particularly with their combinations (compound connectives), and with stylistic and pragmatic properties of them. We consider the connective kdyź as a centre of this group of compound connectives and try to differ functions of combinations like aź kdyź; prave kdyź; tehdy, kdyź; kdyź potom; kdyź jeśte; vźdycky kdyź; etc. It is inte- resting to study the interference between temporal semantics and causal, conditional, con- cessive, as well as other meanings. As we have today large amount of data at our disposal (thanks to the Czech National Corpus), we are able to study different distribution of temporal connectives (and their combinations) in the pattems of fimctional styles and in va- rious text types and genres (scientific texts, professional instructions, economic and sport reports and commentaries, interviews, fairy tales or novels, etc.).

    The growth of mountain biking can be generally viewed as a positive phenomenon in the time of broadly discussed physical inactivity. At the same time, in order to maintain sustainability of biking on trails, it appears useful to be aware of the latent or already obvious conflicts related to the activity. The social conflict developing between the bikers and the hikers. Environmental damage has been the main concern on the side of those who prefer foot travel on trails. There are three common practices conflicting with sustainable use of the natural environment in mountain biking. These practices include off trail riding causing erosion, on or off trail riding on hiking trails through areas serving as natural habitat for protected animals, and erosion caused by increased concentration of visitors during mass bike events and competitions. Our case study presents one that has grown to surprising success and regional popularity in one of the economically weakest parts of the Czech Republic (the Rychlebské stezky arena above Cerna Voda, a rural village located near Jesenik). There have built about sixty kilometers of trails built exclusively for biking.
    W  artykule poruszono kwestię wzrostu popularności jazdy na rowerze górskim, która jest postrzegana jako cecha pozytywna w  kontekście dyskursu na temat niskiego pozio- mu aktywności fizycznej. Zdaniem autorów osobom uprawiającym ten typ sportu potrzebna jest wiedza dotycząca realnych i potencjalnych konfliktów odnoszących się do tego typu aktywności. Jednym z nich jest konflikt między rowerzystami i turystami. Z punktu widzenia turystów najpo- ważniejszym problemem związanym z rosnącą popularnością kolarstwa górskiego jest niszczenie środowiska naturalnego, a w szczególności jego trzy obszary: zniszczenia górskich szlaków, jazda po szlakach turystycznych, niszczenie naturalnego środowiska zwierząt w wyniku większej liczby osób na szlakach górskich oraz organizacja masowych wydarzeń związanych z  kolarstwem gór- skim (np. różnego typu konkursy). W  niniejszym artykule przedstawiono miejsce w  Republice Czeskiej (okolice Jesenika, przy granicy z Polską), gdzie utworzono ok. 60 km szlaków przeznaczo- nych dla kolarzy górskich, unikając jednocześnie powyższych zagrożeń.
