As part of this article, research work aimed at acquiring new knowledge regarding the analysis and assessment of arbitrarily selected gerontechnology: personal care robots for older adults. The results planned to be achieved under the article have not been reflected in previous scientific studies. Until now, no research has been carried out to assess this technology regarding heterogeneous criteria. The existing research results only concern the study of the acceptability of the technologies used by older people to improve their quality of life. The opinions of prospective potential users were not considered as well as their age and place of posting or education. Neither were marketing, social and ethical aspects, competitiveness or innovation. The author will use the proprietary methodology of prospective technology analysis (PAT) to analyse and evaluate the technology. This methodology allows assessing the current state of technology. It enables providing knowledge on characteristic features of the technology, current and potential applications of a given technology and necessary for the development of analysed resource technologies, as well as the impact of technology on the environment and the environment on technology.

Początkowo przedstawiono ideę, koncepcję oraz strukturę zarządzania technologiami. Dalej opisano metodę technology roadmapping jako narzędzie wspomagające proces zarządzania technologiami. Ponadto przeanalizowano wybrane publikacje z zakresu wykorzystania tej metody. Artykuł zakończono rekomendacjami dotyczącymi projektowania marszrut rozwoju technologii.
The main aim of this article is to present the method of technology roadmapping, useful in technology management, and particularly in planning the development of technology. Initially, the idea the concept and the structure of technology management are presented. Next, the method of technology roadmapping is described, as a tool to support the process of technology management. Also, the selected publications on the use of this method have been analysed. The article is concluded with recommendations on the design of the routing of technology development.

The development of industrialization in the 20th century that resulted in the conversion of agricultural land in the industrial societies and migration of rural population to urban areas, started the process of urbanization in the world. The changes resulted in infrastructure transformations and determined the shape and functioning of the centers of modern life. Present continually increasing urban growth, complicates the free movement of goods and cargo flows in cities. It affects their dysfunctional nature, generating phenomenon in the form of transport congestion. The aim of research is the approximation of this problem. The study will be done on the example of the transportation system condition in the urban area of Białystok.

Zasadniczym celem niniejszego artykułu było wyznaczenie prognozy miesięcznego średniego kursu kupna USD. Zrealizowano go, opierając się na szczegółowych badaniach dotyczących analizy porównawczej jakości prognoz wyznaczonych różnymi metodami. Do badania wykorzystano dane od stycznia 2010 do września 2012 roku, pochodzące ze strony internetowej Narodowego Banku Polskiego. Początkowo je przeanalizowano, dokonano dekompozycji analizowanego szeregu czasowego. Następnie wyznaczono prognozę miesięcznego średniego kursu kupna USD, wykorzystując między innymi takie metody, jak zmodyfikowany model metody naiwnej oraz model Holta. Dalej przeprowadzono ocenę jakości otrzymanych prognoz i dokonano rekomendacji zbudowanych modeli prognostycznych.
The principal aim of the paper was to determine the forecast of monthly average USD buying rate. However, the specific objective of the study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the quality of forecasts obtained with different methods. In the study data from the period from January 2010 to September 2012, from the website of the National Polish Bank were used. First, the data were collected, then the analyzed time series was decomposed. Next, the forecast of monthly average USD buying rate was determined with the usage of such methods as the modified model of naive method and the Holt model. Afterwards the assessment of the quality of the forecasts and recommendations of forecasting models were built.

W artykule przedstawiono wykorzystanie metod wygładzania wykładniczego do prognozowania kursu sprzedaży EUR. Modele prognostyczne zbudowano opierając się na danych rzeczywistych od stycznia 2010 do kwietnia 2013 roku, pochodzących ze strony internetowej Narodowego Banku Polskiego. Istotnym założeniem przeprowadzonego badania było wykorzystanie jak najprostszych metod wygładzania wykładniczego. Kolejnym ważnym elementem badania było przeprowadzenie analizy porównawczej jakości otrzymanych prognoz. Do ich oceny wykorzystano siedem miar opisu statystycznego, takich jak błąd średni, błąd średni bezwzględny, maksymalny błąd bezwzględny, pierwiastek z błędu średniego kwadratowego, średni bezwzględny błąd procentowy, mediana bezwzględnego błędu procentowego oraz maksymalny błąd procentowy.
The principal aim of the paper was to use exponential smoothing methods for forecasting EUR selling rate. Forecasting models were built on the basis of data from the period from January 2010 to April 2013, obtained from the website of the National Polish Bank. The important objective of the study was to use the simplest exponential smoothing methods. Another important element of the study was the conduct of a comparative analysis of the quality of forecasts. To assess the quality of forecasts, six measures of statistical description were used: mean error, mean absolute error, maximum absolute error, root mean square error, mean absolute percentage error, median absolute percentage error and maximum absolute percentage error.

Bialystok was characterized by bad condition of infrastructure. Taking into consideration the importance of the region (transit location and connection with national roads) a lot of investments should be made. Modernization of the most important roads in the city is associated with huge costs. This was the reason why the city authorities have decided to gain support from the European Funds. Money from the European budget are the basis of financing the infrastructure projects. In this article available information from official portals of Operational Program and city Council of Bialystok was used. Obtained information brought about an analysis of the major projects made in 2007-2013. Assessment of effective spending of the European Funds in Bialystok and Podlaskie in comparison to the other local governments in Poland was also an important task. Information shows that Bialystok is one of the most attractive cities in the eastern Poland in terms of investment. Granted funds helped to reduce road traffic and contributed to the increase of Bialystok inhabitants life standard. This is the reason to continue the financial support from European Funds.

The article is devoted to logistics customer service and its role in the management of companies involved in the sale of logistics services. The first part presents the definition of customer service and logistics companies, which have been studied in this regard. Subsequently, these companies were analyzed for levels of customer service. The first was Tradis Ltd. engaged in the distribution of goods on Polish territory. The second was the Raben Group. The company provides comprehensive logistics services worldwide. The third company is the ESA, which has also a wide range of bid, but its activity is concentrated mainly in Central Europe. The choice of these three companies was not only dictated by the need to compare the level of customer service. Also examined whether the level is higher in companies that offer comprehensive services in logistics or in those that focus only on one area of the industry. The results of this work may be useful to anyone who wishes to use the services of one of the companies and looking for its evaluation. A comparative analysis can benefit the people who are considering working with one of the companies reported. List of available elements of customer service can help select one of the companies without having to compare their level of service.

Zasadniczym celem artykułu było wyznaczenie prognozy ceny energii elektrycznej na Rynku Dnia Następnego Towarowej Giełdy Energii. Kolejnym istotnym celem badań było przeprowadzenie analizy porównawczej jakości otrzymanych prognoz i dokonanie rekomendacji zbudowanych modeli prognostycznych. Początkowo przeanalizowano zebrane dane, przeprowadzono dekompozycję analizowanego szeregu czasowego. Następnie wyznaczono prognozę ceny energii elektrycznej na giełdzie energii, wykorzystując takie metody, jak model Holta- Wintersa oraz sztuczne sieci neuronowe.
The main objective of this paper was to determine the forecast of the price of electricity on the POLPX Day Ahead Market. Another important aim of the study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the quality of the forecasts and make recommendations concerning the constructed forecasting models. Initially the collected data was analyzed, and the decomposition of the analyzed time series was performed. Then the forecast of electricity prices on the energy exchange was determined using methods such as the Holt-Winters model and artificial neural networks.

The purpose of this article is the use of artificial intelligence methods and exponential smoothing methods to determine the short-term forecast of BRENT oil prices. Another important objective of the research is to conduct a comparative analysis of the quality of the forecasts and make recommendations concerning the constructed forecasting models. Historical data used in this study came from the London Stock Exchange and covered the period from January 2012 to April 2013. The selection of forecasting models was based on the visual decomposition of the time series. The comparative analysis of the quality of the forecasts was carried out, inter alia, on the basis of such measures as mean error (ME), mean absolute error (MAE), root of mean squared error (RMS), mean relative error (MAPE), and the relative error (APE).
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zastosowanie metod sztucznej inteligencji oraz metod wygładzania wykładniczego do wyznaczenia krótkookresowej prognozy ceny ropy naftowej BRENT. Kolejnym istotnym celem badań jest przeprowadzenie analizy porównawczej jakości otrzymanych prognoz i dokonanie rekomendacji zbudowanych modeli prognostycznych. Dane historyczne wykorzystane w niniejszym badaniu pochodziły z giełdy London Stock Exchange i obejmowały okres od stycznia 2012 r. do kwietnia 2013 r. Wyboru modeli prognostycznych dokonano na podstawie wizualnej dekompozycji szeregu czasowego. Analiza porównawcza jakości otrzymanych prognoz została przeprowadzona między innymi na podstawie takich miar jak średni błąd (ME), średni bezwzględny błąd (MAE), pierwiastek ze średniego kwadratowego błędu (RMS), średni względny błąd (MAPE) oraz względny błąd (APE).

Wyzwaniem dla nauki jest interdyscyplinarność, będąca częścią paradygmatu badawczego we wszystkich jej dziedzinach. Przejawia się ona w różnorodności podejmowanych zagadnień badawczych i stosowanych podejść badawczych, umiejętności dostrzegania problemów naukowych, uzasadnionych potrzebami gospodarczymi, jak i przekraczaniu granic pomiędzy dziedzinami nauk technicznych i społecznych oraz umiejętności identyfikowania problemów i poszukiwania rozwiązań z pogranicza dyscyplin naukowych. Wyraża się także w przełamywaniu stereotypowego sposobu myślenia w procesie rozwiązywania aktualnych i antycypowania przyszłych problemów. Dorobek naukowy Profesora Joanicjusza Nazarko jest przykładem właśnie tak szeroko rozumianej interdyscyplinarności w nauce. Artykuł, przygotowany z okazji 60 urodzin Profesora Joanicjusza Nazarko, został opracowany przez członków Rady Naukowej czasopisma „Ekonomia i Zarządzanie”, której przewodniczy Jubilat.
Interdisciplinarity, which is a part of the research paradigm in all fields of science constitutes a real challenge in research. It manifests itself particularly in the diversity of the undertaken research topics, in the variety of the adopted research approaches (theoretical, methodological, normative, empirical-descriptive), and in the flexibility and the ability to see both the scientific problems as well as the economic and social needs. The ability to cross the boundaries between the fields of technical and social sciences, to identify problems and to seek solutions at the frontiers of scientific disciplines, the eagerness to work in research teams diverse in terms of competence, age, skills, creating conditions for both the personal development and that of individual team members, breaking the stereotypical ways of thinking in the process of solving problems and anticipating future events are all features of an academic culture nurtured by Professor Joanicjusz Nazarko. His profile, which is an extraordinary example of the successfully implemented interdisciplinarity principle in research and teaching, is presented in this article at the occasion of his 60th birthday. The paper highlights the research of Professor Joanicjusz Nazarko, presents a review of his extensive scientific work and lists some of his publications.

Promoting fruit and vegetable consumption is one of the main objectives of food and nutrition policy interventions worldwide. Public institutions, non-governmental organizations, research and health agencies together with market stakeholders undertake integrated initiatives to inform consumers about the health benefits of everyday fruit and vegetable intake. In the European Union several campaigns aimed at increasing produce demand have been launched in the nineties to improve the dietary patterns of the general population or specific consumer groups, such as children. However statistics show that fruit and vegetable intake in most EU states including new members is much below the recommended level. School-aged children, women and employees are currently the main target groups of “5 a day’ information and promotion activities aimed at increasing f&v consumption. In order to secure long-term effectiveness of such programs the main determinants of consumer choice in the food market should be monitored. Broad public-private partnerships, including producers and distributors seem to be the key to strengthening the efforts at “pushing’ market demand. Some of the campaigns developed and implemented in the European Union countries can be described as “5 a day’ best practices. The involvement of fruit and vegetable chain participants, cooperation and evaluation of undertaken interventions are further needed in order for the programs to become more efficient and widespread.

In chosen periodicals of the food industry and so-called “women’s press,” food advertisements containing nutritional marketing messages were analysed. The frequency and type of these tools was observed and scientific value and correctness was evaluated. The study results show that most of the advertisements do not comply with current legal regulations. Producers often emphasize the presence of ingredients which are recommended from the nutritional point of view although the product’s overall nutritional value is low or controversial.

Opis:
The most important challenges of food policy and public health in the 21st Century include fighting high levels of obesity and food waste. Both issues are linked to the necessity of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and inhibiting climate change. Diet modification towards a more sustainable and healthy model, based in greater extent on plant-derived (vegetal) food and not animal products is seen as a chance to improve this situation. Taking these aspects into consideration, an analysis of consumption trends (1991-2011) of 6 food groups, known as markers of sustainable diet, was carried out in 7 EU countries. The study was based on FAO Food Balance Sheet statistical data. The current consumption structures in the selected countries was compared to recommended, sustainable and healthy diets. It was shown that in general homogenization of food consumption, a decrease of pulses and increase of fruit consumption had taken place. In each country the share of cereals & potatoes, fruit & vegetables, milk & dairy products, and meat did not meet the recommendations. The consumption of the first two groups was too low, the remaining two – too high.
