Opis:
The aim of the present work is the analysis of microstructure, dielectric permittivity and thermal properties analysis of $Bi_5Ti_3FeO_{15}$ ceramics obtained by two methods. The studied $Bi_5Ti_3FeO_{15}$ ceramics were prepared by conventional synthesis and hot uniaxial pressing reaction from the conventional mixture of oxides, viz. $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, $Bi_2O_3$. The studied material has layered perovskite like structures, first described by Aurivillius in 1949 and Subbaro in 1969. The ceramic $Bi_5Ti_3FeO_{15}$ is known to contain a series of compounds with the general formula: $Bi_{m+1}Fe_{m-3}Ti_3O_{3m+3}$. The X-ray diffraction methods were used for qualitative phase analysis of studied samples. The morphology was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy method. The thermal properties of the studied materials were measured using the differential thermal analysis at a constant heating rate of 15 K/min under an argon protective atmosphere. Thermal dependence of dielectric permittivity was studied between room temperature and 1137 K.

Opis:
In the study, the method of high-energy powder milling - mechanical activation (MA) was used for synthesizing Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 (PFN) powders. For the purpose of comparing the influence of high-energy milling on PFN synthesis, two groups of powder samples were used. The first mixture consisting of simple oxide powders; the second one consisting of compound oxide powders. The obtained powders were subjected to structural analysis with the use of XRD and Mőssbauer spectroscopy. Tests revealed that during the process of high-energy milling of initial constituents a partial synthesis of PFN material phases occurs. By comparing the two methods of PFN synthesizing it may be stated that mechanical activation in the case of a simple oxide mixture (PFN1) is equally effective as for a compound oxide mixture (PFN2).
W pracy, w procesie technologicznym, wykorzystano metodę wysokoenergetycznego mielenia proszków – mechanicznej aktywacji (MA) do syntezowania proszków Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 (PFN).

The paper presents the results of the Bi₅Ti₃FeO₁₅ multiferroic phase stability analysis during high-energy ball milling aimed at obtaining fine dispersion ceramic powder. The X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy methods were used to analyse the structure and verify the degree of crystallite dispersion. Structural data analysis was carried out using the Rietveld method. To carry out the analysis of the morphology, the scanning electron microscopy was used. The results that were obtained showed that the high energy ball milling process results in the decomposition of the initial ceramics, where finally Bi₅Ti₃FeO₁₅ and Bi are obtained. An increase in the proportion of the amorphous phase and an increase in the dispersion of the grains and crystallites of the powder that occurs with an increase in the milling time were observed.

Magnetoelectric multiferroics are materials which exhibit both magnetic order and ferroelectricity in the same phase. Multiferroic materials, where ferroelectricity and magnetism coexist, were extensively studied. This class of materials offers a large application potential for new devices due to the two coupled degrees of freedom based on the local off-centered distortion and the electron spin. The studied $Bi_5Ti_3FeO_{15}$ ceramics was prepared by conventional synthesis and hot uniaxial pressing reaction applying the conventional mixture of $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$ and $Bi_2O_3$ oxides as precursor materials. The present work focuses on the structure analysis of multiferroic $Bi_5Ti_3FeO_{15}$ ceramics performed by X-ray diffraction method, scanning electron microscopy and the Mössbauer spectroscopy methods.

Opis:
Evaluation of corrosion resistance of the self-organized nanotubular oxide layers on the Ti13Zr13Nb alloy, has been carried out in 0.9% NaCl solution at the temperature of 37ºC. Anodization process of the tested alloy was conducted in a solution of 1M (NH4)2SO4 with the addition of 1 wt.% NH4F. The self-organized nanotubular oxide layers were obtained at the voltage of 20 V for the anodization time of 120 min. Investigations of surface morphology by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM ) revealed that as a result of the anodization under proposed conditions, the single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) can be formed of diameters that range from 10 to 32 nm. Corrosion resistance studies of the obtained nanotubular oxide layers and pure Ti13Zr13Nb alloy were carried out using open circuit potential, anodic polarization curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. It was found that surface modification by electrochemical formation of the selforganized nanotubular oxide layers increases the corrosion resistance of the Ti13Zr13Nb alloy in comparison with pure alloy.
Przeprowadzono badania oceny odporności korozyjnej nanotubularnych struktur tlenkowych na stopie Ti13Zr13Nb w środowisku płynów ustrojowych. Określono wpływ obecności nanotubularnych struktur tlenkowych na zmianę odporności korozyjnej stopu Ti13Zr13Nb. Proces anodowania elektrochemicznego prowadzono w roztworze 1M (NH4)2SO4 z 1 % dodatkiem NH4F.

Opis:
The study presents the results of the influence of high energy milling on the structure of the new Ti-15Mo-5Sn [wt%] alloy for biomedical applications. During testing the powders were milled for the following milling times: 5, 15, 30, and 45 h. The milled powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy methods. Observation of the powder morphology after various stages of milling leads to the conclusion that with the increase of the milling time the size of the powder particles as well as the degree of aggregation change. However, a clear tendency of particles reduction at every stage of the mechanical alloying process is clearly observed. The X-ray diffraction results confirmed the presence of the α and β phases, and molybdenum. It has been found that the reflections from the Sn phase disappeared after five hours of milling, suggesting that the Sn and Ti alloying took place, leading to the creation of a titanium-based solid solution. After 30 and 45 h of mechanical alloying the formation of the β-Ti phase, the final share of which is 46(4) wt%, was observed. Furthermore, it was found that a diffraction line broadening with the increase of the milling time results from reduction of the crystallite size and an increase in the lattice distortion. The maximum level of the reduction of the crystallite size was obtained after 45 h of milling. The maximum degree of the unit cells reduction for all phases present in the powder that was being milled was also observed for this milling time.

The paper presents the technology and basic properties of three compositions of lead-free ceramics: (i) (K0.44Na0.52Li0.04)NbO3, (ii) (K0.44Na0.52Li0.04)NbO3)NbO3 +0.5%mol Nd2O3 and (iii) (K0.44Na0.52Li0.04)NbO3)NbO2+0.5%mol Pr2O3. Powders of the designed compositions based on KNLN were obtained with the classic ceramic technology, as a result of solid phase synthesis, from a mixture of simple oxides and carbonates. The synthesis of ceramic powders was carried out at Ts = 900°C for ts = 4 h, while compaction by free sintering at Tsint = 1100°C for tsint = 2 h. XRD studies have shown that doping with praseodymium and neodymium promotes the formation of the tetragonal phase in the base composition (K0.44Na0.52Li0.04)NbO3)NbO3 at lower temperatures. On the other hand, microstructural tests have shown that the admixture of neodymium and praseodymium improves the sinterability of ceramic samples during the technological process; however, the ceramic samples still exhibit high porosity.

Opis:
This work reports on determination of the influence of passivation type of Ti15wt.%Mo implant alloy surface on its corrosion resistance in simulated body fluids. The alloy under investigation was subjected to natural self-passivation in air, and forced passivation by autoclaving in steam, boiling in 30 % solution of H2O2, and electrochemical passivation in 0.9 % NaCl solution. Resistance of the passivated Ti15Mo alloy to pitting corrosion was studied at 37ºC in 0.9 % NaCl solution using open circuit potential method, anodic polarization curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Comparative estimation of the determined parameters of corrosion resistance revealed that the obtained passive layers improve anticorrosive properties of the tested alloy. Surface of the alloy subjected to passivation in steam autoclave reveals the highest protection against pitting corrosion. Anodic potentiodynamic curves showed that the Ti15Mo alloy after different passivation types of the surface is characterized by a lack of susceptibility to pitting corrosion up to potential of 9 V. Based on the EIS investigations, the thickness of the formed oxide layers (TiO2, anatase) was determined to be in the range from 2.0 to 7.8 nm in dependence on the applied type of passivation. It was ascertained that electrochemical properties of the Ti15Mo alloy and possibility of its surface passivation using simple methods, make it an attractive material for use in biomedicine for long-term implants.

Opis:
Electrolytic Ni-Mo alloy coatings were obtained from the galvanic bath, at the temperature of T= 60°C under galvanostatic conditions using a cathodic current density of j= 80 mA cm¯². Surface morphology was studied using a scanning electron microscopy. Chemical composition of obtained coatings was determined by the energy dispersive spectroscopy. Structural studies were carried out using an X-ray diffraction method. Electrochemical corrosion resistance tests were carried out in 5% NaCl solution. It was found that X-ray diffraction investigations of all obtained coatings showed the characteristic "halo", which suggests that the obtained deposits have an amorphous structure. Chemical composition and corrosion resistance of the electrolytic Ni-Mo coatings depend on the concentration of Na₂MoO₄· 2H₂O in a galvanic bath. With the increase of the molybdenum content in the alloy coatings, their corrosion resistance increases.

In this work, the anodic formation of self-organized nanotubular oxide layers on Ti13Zr13Nb implant alloy was presented. Anodic oxidation was carried out at room temperature in [1 M] $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ solution with 1 wt% content of $NH_4F$. The voltage and time of anodization was 20 V for 120 min, respectively. Under proposed conditions, the best arrangement of nanopores was observed. The physical and chemical properties of the anodized surface of the Ti13Zr13Nb alloy were characterized using grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, scanning transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. It was found that diameter of nanopores varied from 10 to 32 nm. Mechanism of the fabrication of the unique 3D tube-shaped nanostructure of $TiO_2$ on the surface of the Ti13Zr13Nb alloy by electrochemical anodization, has been discussed.

Opis:
The main purpose of this study was to identify the mineral composition of soil sample taken from the upper layer of topsoil. High absorption of chemical substance is a characteristic for humus-organic layer of topsoil. The source of those substance could be a pollutant emitted to the atmosphere by human activity. The research area includes Upper Silesia region, which is the most industrial region of Poland. In the present study, the phase composition of the top soil separates were analyzed by using X-raydiffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the presence of seven mineral phases in the material magnetic separated by lower current (quartz, illite, kaolinite, Fe3+ oxides, hematite, magnetite and pyrite). In case of higher current were identified four phases (quartz, muscovite, kaolinite and K0.94 Na0.06 (AlSi3 O8 )). Mössbauer spectroscopy was used for an extensive analysis of iron-containing phases (pyrrhotite, magnetite, aluminosilicate oxides with Fe3+ and kaolinite/Fe2+ silicate).

Opis:
In this work, we employed the Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction in a study of point defect formation in intermetallic phases of the B2 structure of the Fe-Al system as a function of Al concentration. The results are compared with the concentrations of point defect determined from positron annihilation data. In the Mössbauer effect, two types of samples are investigated: Fe-Al alloys with few additives obtained by induction melting and Al-rich metallic powders produced by the self-decomposition method and intensive grinding of high energy in the electro-magneto-mechanical mill. We present the values of the $\text{}^{57}Fe$ isomer shift and quadrupole splitting for the components describing the point defect in the local environment of a Mössbauer nuclide. The concentration of the Fe vacancies and Fe atoms substituting Al (Fe-AS) are determined. The results showed that an increase in Al content causes an increase in vacancy and Fe-AS concentration.

Opis:
The Ti15Mo alloy has been studied towards long-term corrosion performance in saline solution at 37°C using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The physical and chemical characterization of the material were also investigated. The as-received Ti15Mo alloy exhibits a single β-phase structure. The thickness of single-layer structured oxide presented on its surface is ~4 nm. Impedance measurements revealed that the Ti15Mo alloy is characterized by spontaneous passivation in the solution containing chloride ions and formation of a double-layer structured oxide composed of a dense interlayer being the barrier layer against corrosion and porous outer layer. The thi ckness of this oxide layer, estimated based on the impedance data increases up to ~6 nm during 78 days of exposure. The obs erved fall in value of the log|Z|f=0.01 Hz indicates a decrease in pitting corrosion resistance of Ti15Mo alloy in saline solution along with the immersion time. The detailed EIS study on the kinetics and mechanism of corrosion process and the capacitive behavior of the Ti15Mo electrode | passive layer | saline solution system was based on the concept of equivalent electrical circuit with respect to the physical meaning of the applied circuit elements. Potentiodynamic studies up to 9 V vs. SCE and SEM analysis show no presence of pitting corrosion what indicates that the Ti15Mo alloy is promising biomaterial to long-term medical applications.

Opis:
In this work, the electrophoretic deposition method has been developed for the fabrication of bioactive alginate coatings on the surface of Ti15Mo implant alloy. Thin ZnO film was deposited cataphoretically as the interlayer prior to anaphoretic deposition of alginate (Alg) which was performed from aqueous solution containing 1 g $dm^{- 3}$ of NaAlg at room temperature. The deposition voltage and time varied in the range 20-50 V and 30-120 min, respectively. The microstructure of Alg coatings was studied by scanning electron microscope, and the surface roughness was analysed using atomic force microscopy. Structure was studied by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction. Chemical composition and functional group were examined using energy dispersive spectrometry and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy methods, respectively. It was found that controlling the deposition conditions it is possible to obtain amorphous Alg coatings of variable thickness and porosity. Mechanism of electrophoretic deposition of bioactive Alg coatings on the Ti15Mo alloy surface was discussed.

Investigations on the surface modification of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation are reported here. The oxidation process was carried out in a solution containing a zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) suspension and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Anodising was realised at voltages in a range from 100 V to 250 V. It was found that the morphology of the sample surface did not change during the oxidation of the alloy at 100 V. Application of voltages higher than 100 V led to the incorporation of zirconium silicate into the formed oxide layer and to significant changes of the surface morphology.
