In this paper we undertake to engineer yarn of predefined strength by choosing suitable raw material and process parameters. In an attempt to achieve a yarn of optimal strength, the constrained optimisation problem is formulated with the relation between raw material and yarn properties. Frydrych’s theoretical model of yarn strength is used for formulation of the optimisation problem. The simulated annealing (SA) method has been used to solve the optimisation problem by researching the best combination of raw material and process parameters that can bring into reality a yarn with the strength desired. The results show that SA is capable of ascertaining a set of parameters that gives the yarn strength desired.
W pracy podjęto próbę otrzymywania przędzy o określonej wytrzymałości poprzez wybór odpowiedniego surowca i parametrów procesu przędzenia. W celu otrzymania przędzy o optymalnej wytrzymałości sformułowano problem optymalizacji zawierający zależności pomiędzy surowcem i właściwościami przędzy. Zastosowano przy tym teoretyczny model Frydrych wytrzymałości przędzy a także metodę symulacji SA. Udokumentowano, że za pomocą zastosowanej metody symulacji można sprecyzować zestaw parametrów, który umożliwia osiągniecie zakładanej wytrzymałości przędzy.

A beam profile monitoring system based on the imaging of low energy electrons created when the ion beam impinges on a metal plate was built to monitor the beam profile and to cover the wide range of beam intensities and energies for the DESIREE (Double ElectroStatic Ion Ring ExpEriment) beam line diagnostics. The spatial resolution of the system was tested with different beams of various energies and was found to be around 2 mm. A significant steering effect on the ion beam before hitting the metallic foil was observed at low energies.

In this paper a new technique has been proposed for cotton bale management using fuzzy logic. The fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm has been applied for clustering cotton bales into 5 categories from 1200 randomly chosen bales of the J-34 variety. In order to cluster bales of different categories, eight fibre properties, viz., the strength, elongation, upper half mean length, length uniformity, short fibre content, micronaire, reflectance and yellowness of each bale have been considered. The fuzzy c-means clustering method is able to handle the haziness that may be present in the boundaries between adjacent classes of cotton bales as compared to the K-means clustering method. This method may be used as a convenient tool for the consistent picking of different bale mixes from any number of bales in a warehouse.
W artykule zaproponowano nową technikę zarządzania składowaniem bawełny opartą na logice rozmytej. Badaniu poddano 1200 losowo wybranych bel bawełny. W celu pogrupowania bel w 5 kategoriach zbadano właściwości, tj. wytrzymałość, wydłużenie, średnią długość, jednorodność długości, zawartość włókien krótkich, dojrzałość, współczynnik odbicia i zażółcenie każdej beli. Opracowana metoda może być stosowana jako wygodne narzędzie do sortowania różnych mieszanek z dowolnej liczby bel w magazynie.

This article proposes an algorithmic approach for multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problems using interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy soft matrix (IVIFSM) and confident weight of experts. We propose a novel concept for assigning confident weights to the experts based on cardinals of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy soft sets (IVIFSSs). The confident weight is assigned to each of the experts based on their preferred attributes and opinions, which reduces the chances of biasness. Instead of using medical knowledgebase, the proposed algorithm mainly relies on the set of attributes preferred by the group of experts. To make the set of preferred attributes more important, we use combined choice matrix, which is combined with the individual IVIFSM to produce the corresponding product IVIFSM. This article uses IVIFSMs for representing the experts’ opinions. IVIFSM is the matrix representation of IVIFSS and IVIFSS is a natural combination of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set (IVIFS) and soft set. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is validated using a case study from real life.

In August 2015, twig blight disease of ban tulsi (Croton bonplandianus Bail.) caused by Choanephora cucurbitarum (Berk. & Ravenel) Thaxt. was observed for the first time, in the Gangetic alluvial region of West Bengal, India. A severe disease incidence (40–50%) showed twig blight symptoms starting with shoot apical meristem (SAM), leaf, and blossom blight symptoms. Typical symptoms were characterized by over-projecting black pin head like emerging sporangiola which formed mycelial cushion on the infected surface. The present report describes the identification of the causal pathogen as C. cucurbitarum based on its morphology and the internal transcribed spacer of its ribosomal DNA (rDNA – ITS) sequences with 100% identity of NCBI-GenBank published Choanephora database. Optimum temperatures, 28–30°C, coupled with high relative humidity (80–90%) during the monsoon season enhances the disease’s progress. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of twig blight of C. bonplandianus, caused by C. cucurbitarum, in India as well as globally.

A Green function method is developed for estimation of lattice parameter r(χ) of an AX-BX solid solution over entire composition range (χ=0 to 1). The r(χ) obtained in the present method is different from the value r$\text{}_{V}$(χ) suggested by Vegard's law. We estimated the deviation from Vegard's law, r(χ)-r$\text{}_{V}$(χ), over entire composition range for isovalent substitutional defect in alkali halide crystals. When compared to X-ray diffraction measurements, we find that the deviation is in correct direction, variation of r(χ) with χ is consistent with experiment and the overall agreement is fairly good considering the accuracy of the experiment.

To guarantee food security and job creation of small scale farmers to commercial farmers, unproductive farms in the South 24 PGS, West Bengal need land reform program to be restructured and evaluated for agricultural productivity. This study established a potential role of remote sensing and GIS for identification and mapping of salinity zone and spatial planning of agricultural land over the Basanti and Gosaba Islands(808.314sq. km) of South 24 PGS. District of West Bengal. The primary data i.e. soil pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC) and Sodium Absorption ratio (SAR) were obtained from soil samples of various GCP (Ground Control Points) locations collected at 50 mts. intervals by handheld GPS from 0–100 cm depths. The secondary information is acquired from the remotely sensed satellite data (LANDSAT ETM+) in different time scale and digital elevation model. The collected field samples were tested in the laboratory and were validated with Remote Sensing based digital indices analysisover the temporal satellite data to assess the potential changes due to over salinization. Soil physical properties such as texture, structure, depth and drainage condition is stored as attributes in a geographical soil database and linked with the soil map units. The thematic maps are integrated with climatic and terrain conditions of the area to produce land capability maps for paddy. Finally, The weighted overlay analysis was performed to assign theweights according to the importance of parameters taken into account for salineareaidentification and mapping to segregate higher, moderate, lower salinity zonesover the study area.

This paper presents a heuristic procedure for assigning assembly tasks to workstations where both productivity and ergonomics issues are considered concurrently. The procedure uses Kilbridge and Wester’s algorithm to obtain an initial task–workstation assignment solution which minimizes the balance delay of an assembly line. A task reassignment algorithm was applied to improve the initial solution by exchanging assembly tasks, which smooth postural load among workers, between workstations. A composite index of variation was used to measure the effectiveness of the task–workstation assignment solution. On the basis of clothes assembling, it was found that the task–workstation assignment solution with a minimum composite index of variation can be obtained with relatively equal weights in balance delay and postural load.

In this paper we calculate nearest neighbour relaxation in some dilute substitutional alloys using a lattice static Green function and the Morse potential function. Distant neighbour relaxation is calculated by invoking a continuum approximation. The potential parameters for the unlike interactions are calculated using simple interpolation formulae. Using the above relaxation, we calculate volume changes in the above alloys. It is observed that the simple model predicts values which are in reasonably good agreement with the experimental values in all cases. The calculated values are also compared with those obtained from the Vegard law. For Au-Ag alloy, our model reproduces both the correct sign and the magnitude of the volume change, whereas the Vegard law cannot even give the sign of the volume change. This shows the inherent strength of the present model.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that around 2 billion people across the globe are suffering from “hidden hunger”, where 815 million are under malnutrition. The major essential elements for humans are Fe, Zn, I, Se, Ca, F, and also vitamins. Among them, Zn is considered in the fifth place leading to causes of several deficiency diseases. At least one-third of the population in the world is facing Zn deficiency including around 450,000 children under the age of five. Vitamin A, Fe, and Zn deficiencies can be overcome through the biofortification of staple foodstuffs. This review emphasizes various breeding and agronomic approaches for the biofortification of Zn in wheat grains, which is an encouraging and cost-effective method to enhance the Zn contents of cereal grains. Recently, the Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute (BWMRI), with technical support from CIMMYT, Mexico, released a promising new Zn-biofortified wheat cultivar, ‘BARI Gom 33’, a result from a conventional breeding program. It has 32 and 50–55 mg kg−1 Zn without and with soil application of ZnSO4, respectively. This cultivar could be a savior for a million people in South Asia, including Bangladesh.
WHO (Światowa Organizacja Zdrowia) oceniła, że około 2 miliardy ludzi na całym świecie cierpi z powodu „ukrytego głodu”, podczas gdy 815 milionów cierpi z powodu niedożywienia. Głównymi pierwiastkami niezbędnymi w diecie dla człowieka są Fe, Zn, J, Se, Ca, F oraz witaminy. Cynk zajmuje 5 miejsce pod względem deficytu w pożywieniu, a jego niedobory prowadzą do wielu groźnych chorób. Co najmniej jedna trzecia populacji na świecie wykazuje objawy niedoboru Zn, w tym około 450000 dzieci poniżej piątego roku życia. Niedobory witaminy A, Fe i Zn można niwelować poprzez biofortyfikację podstawowych artykułów spożywczych. Niniejsza praca przeglądowa podkreśla różne podejścia hodowlane i agronomiczne do biofortyfikacji Zn w ziarniakach pszenicy, co może stanowić zachęcające i opłacalne narzędzie służące zwiększaniu zawartości Zn. Niedawno Bangladeski Instytut Badań Pszenicy i Kukurydzy (BWMRI), przy wsparciu technicznym Międzynarodowego Centrum Ulepszania Kukurydzy i Pszenicy (CIM-MYT) w Meksyku, przekazał nową, wzbogaconą w Zn odmianę biofortyfikowanej pszenicy ‘BARI Gom 33’ uzyskaną w ramach konwencjonalnego programu hodowlanego. Zawartość Zn w ziarniakach wynosi odpowiednio 32,09 i 50–55 μg L−1 Zn bez nawożenia i po doglebowym nawożeniu ZnSO4. Ta odmiana może uratować przed niedożywieniem milion ludzi w Azji Południowej, w tym w Bangladeszu.

A carbide-free bainitic microstructure is suitable for achieving a combination of ultra high strength and high ductility. In this work, a steel containing nominally 0.34C-2Mn-1.5Si-1Cr (wt.%) was produced via industrial hot rolling and laboratory heat treatments. The austenitization (900°C, 30 min.) and austempering (300-400°C, 3 h) treatments were done in salt bath furnaces. The austempering treatments were designed to approximately simulate the coiling step, following hot rolling and run-out-table cooling, when the bainitic transformation would take place and certain amount of austenite would be stabilized due to suppression of carbide precipitation. The microstructures and various mechanical properties (tensile properties, bendability, flangeability, and room and subzero temperature impact toughness) relevant for applications were characterized. It was found that the mechanical properties were highly dependent on the stability of the retained austenite, presence of martensite in the microstructure and the size of the microstructural constituents. The highest amount of retained austenite (~ 27 wt.%) was obtained in the sample austempered at 375°C but due to lower austenite stability and coarser overall microstructure, the sample exhibited lower tensile ductility, bendability, flangeability and impact toughness. The sample austempered at 400°C also showed poor properties due to the presence of initial martensite and coarse microstructure. The best combination of mechanical properties was achieved for the samples austempered at 325-350°C with a lower amount of retained austenite but with the highest mechanical stability.

The study of diversity of plants in an urban area is a suitable measure of the terrestrial ecosystem. The study of avenue and wild plants diversity is an important research work, which provides knowledge about naturally occurring chemicals in plants, to protect against mutation, cancer and other diseases. These are commonly called as phytochemicals and the natural chemical ingredients are potent to use in antimutagenicity. The present study aims to understand the occurrence and population nos. of different avenue and wild plants planted or natural on roadside near Nature Park, Kolkata, India. The results clearly indicate that a total population of these plant species are having 282 nos. in the study area. Various literatures clearly revealed that these plants and/or their parts have potent antimutagenic properties by the presence of several phytochemicals. In conclusion, present preliminary research emphasizes an occurrence of antimutagenic avenue and wild plants on roadsides, containing natural chemical ingredients. Previous research works confirmed that toxins or mutagens or carcinogens may cause mutation that leads to cancer. The present study is a preliminary assessment of antimutagenic avenue and wild plant species diversity that have not yet been studied in that particular geographical area. The present study also suggested that avenue and wild plants are suitable for antimutagenic potential along with aesthetical view of human as well as ecosystem support. Therefore, biodiversity study, phytochemicals estimation and conservation of these particular plant species and/or different antimutagenic species in other local area viz. roadsides, parks, forests etc. might be relevant because the plant species can be used for herbal medicine in human healthcare as well as to prevent mutation and cancer.

The electron transfer reaction of L-cysteine (RSH) with pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC) has been studied spectrophotometrically over the range 2.0 ≤ 10^3 [RSH] ≤ 6.0; 0.01 ≤ [H+] ≤ 0.2; 298 ≤ T ≤ 318 K and I = 0.3 mol dm-3 (NaClO4). The electron transfer reaction has also been carried out in the presence of anionic, cationic and neutral micelle. The reaction in acid medium is strongly catalyzed by changing [SDS]T (sodium dodecyl sulfate) up to 3 × 10-2 mol dm-3, beyond this concentration of SDS, the rate is retarded. The cationic and neutral micelle has a small effect on the rate. ΔH≠ (kJ mol-1) and ΔS≠ (JK-1 mol-1) values for the k1 and k2 paths are 30.20 ± 0.25, -159.65 ± 0.83 and 29.60 ± 0.62, -127.09 ± 2.17, respectively. The negative activation entropy is indicative of the ordered transition state for the electron transfer reaction. Formation of 2-amino-3-(2-amino-2-carboxy-ethyl) disulfanyl-propanoic acid as product is strongly supported by IR spectra.

Putting a Y-capacitor between the primary ground and secondary ground is a common practice in industry to reduce EMI; but, this capacitor increases touch current. A method is discussed to measure the touch current at circuit design level. An optimum value of Y-capacitor is predicted without exceeding touch current limit. Experimental results of touch current measurements and EMI measurements are analyzed.

Ericales is an ancient eudicot order encompassing numerous species of economic and ornamental values. Despite several phylogenomic studies, the evolutionary relationship among certain families of this group remains uncertain. The present study assessed a multilocus species tree of Ericales based on 107 chloroplast genomes. The plastome derived microsatellite motifs were also simultaneously explored to check their dynamicity in corroboration of species phylogeny and systematics. In addition to resolving the usual hierarchy, the present phylogenetic analysis enabled to resolve the persisting lineage disparity with valid statistical support. Accordingly, divergence incongruences of Primulaceae, Ebenaceae, and Sapotaceae from earlier reports were reinstated in presently inferred phylogeny, which further supported the latest transcriptome-based relationship of the corresponding group. Various SSR motif characteristics emerged following the recognition of the evolutionary pathway. Numerical variation in tetranucleotide repeats showed even intraspecific or varietal differences in Camellia sinensis. Validation of plastome microsatellite-based polymorphism among the related taxa might pave the way for future phylogenetic and population studies of this economically important group.

Opis:
This paper is devoted towards life cycle economic analysis (LCEA) of a solar photovoltaic (PV) powered tri-cycle. The paper is meant to propose a more systematic approach in determining the optimum use of scarce resources in order to determine the most cost-effective option of the solar tri-cycle. This analysis is based on the life cycle cost of this solar vehicle, involving its comparison with the customary fuel-based tri-cycle which exhibits the relatively less expenditure of the solar alternative. The economic analysis takes into account the fact that over 20 years, the overall price of solar component, replacement and electricity charges, is much lower as compared to that of a fuel-based tri-cycle in India taking into consideration the fuel cost, maintenance and annual inflation over the same period.

Purpose: The work objective includes optimization of the casting production and heat treatment processes that will simultaneously maximize the combination of strength, hardness, and ductility for hypereutectic Al-Si compositions with Si volume fractions of as much as 25 vol.%. In addition, such an in-situ formed composite alloy will attain a unique combination of low production cost, high potential recycled content, and functional characteristics suitable for mission critical aerospace and vehicular applications. Design/methodology/approach: The unique High Pressure Die Casting Universal Metallurgical Simulator and Analyser (HPDC UMSA) was used for melting, cyclic melt treatment, and solidification of the hypereutectic Al-Si-X (A390). The produced as-cast structures contained colonies of nano-diameter Si whiskers and other morphologies, and absence of primary silicon particles. Heat treated structures rendered nano and ultrafine metal matrix composites. Findings: New developed as-cast Al-Si materials containing nano-diameter Si whiskers, without primary silicon particles required ultra short time heat treatment to result in nano and ultrafine metal matrix composite, rendering their hardness, strength and wear resistance, and the same time retaining toughness and ductility. Research limitations/implications: The cast samples were produced in laboratory conditions and potential tensile strength was estimated from empirical correlation with micro-hardness measurements. In the future, the comprehensive mechanical properties need to be tested. Practical implications: These ultrafine Si, Al-MMCs can be net-shape formed by modified HPDC technology or consolidated from spray-atomized alloy powder. Originality/value: Optimization of the entire production process for the hypereutectic Al-Si alloy compositions achieved a uniform distribution of ~ 25 vol.% of ultrafine Si particles in ductile FCC-Al matrix further reinforced by age hardening with nano-scale spinodal GP-zones. The associated mechanical property and ductility improvements will open a wide range of critical lightweighting components in transportation: aerospace, terrestrial vehicle and marine to the optimized hypereutectic Al-Si alloys. Presently, these components do not use the commercial HPDC A390 alloys due to their limited ductility and strength. Proposed new technology will allow conversion of various cast airspace alloys with ultrahigh mechanical properties to the automotive applications.

HIV-1 or Human Immuno Deficiency Virus-1 is the main causative agent of Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Human host infected with HIV - 1 extensively harbours many viral variants but very little is known about the difference in pattern[17] of evolution of phylogenetic lineages of HIV-1 non recombinant, normal inter subtype recombinant and main two specific recombinant forms of HIV-1 i.e., Circulating Recombinant Forms (CRFs) and Unique Recombinant Forms (URFs). This study is mainly concerned with study of the difference in evolutionary lineages of non-recombinant and recombinant sequences of HIV-1 genome sequences and identification of geographically rich areas which has reported high degree of HIV-1 occurrence and variety. Total 1550 HIV-1 genome sequences were obtained from HIV Los Alamos Database. The sequences were aligned using MAFFT (Multiple Alignment using Fast Fourier Transform) web server tool. Alignment was carried out using 10 different set of alignment parameter values. After alignment the aligned file was used for constructing N-J phylogenetic tree using Clustal X2 tool. Phylogenetic analysis was performed keeping in mind the category to which the sequence belongs. Upon analysis it was observed that the clade containing the probable ancestor belongs remained constant in all cases of different alignment values. Non recombinant isolates, inter subtype recombinants, CRFs, URFs all followed different patterns of evolution. Non recombinant sequences were found geographically specific and subtype specific to some extent whereas, normal recombinants were subtype specific and less geographically specific. CRFs showed variation among the pattern of their evolution. At some instances the sequences occurred as sister taxa of non-recombinant or normal inter subtype recombinant sequences, while at some instances as sister taxa of other CRFs where they were geographically specific. Three CRFs existed as completely diverged sequences. URFs were four in number; two of them were Indian isolates of while other two were Japanese isolates. URFs were found to be totally geographically specific. Geography wise high rate of variation was observed in India and Japan as these two countries had sequences belonging to all of the above categories. Cameroon and South Africa have very large number isolates and a considerable amount of genetic variation among isolates but they lack URFs.

In this paper, we have defined the weakly symmetric generalized Trans-Sasakian manifold \(G(WS)_n\) and it has been shown that on such manifold if any two of the vector fields \(\lambda,\gamma,\tau\), defined by equation (0.3) are orthogonal to \(\xi\), then the third will also be orthogonal to \(\xi\). We have also proved that the scalar curvature \(r\) of weakly symmetric generalized Trans-Sasakian manifold \(G(WS)_n\), \((n > 2)\) satisfies the equation \(r = 2n(\alpha^2 − \beta^2)\), where \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) are smooth function and \(\gamma\not=\tau\).

Germination efficiency of freshly harvested Hippophae rhamnoides seeds collected from cold desert of Ladakh outside its native place under in vivo glass house condition recorded a highest of 73% germination in soilrite at 22±2°C and 60–70% RH within three weeks at Guwahati, North East India. Germination of seeds was significantly enhancedto a maximum of 90% under in vitro condition in 1/4th Murashige & Skoog (MS) medium supplementedwith 3% sucrose and2% activatedcharcoal within two weeks. Glass house acclimatized healthy seedlings after been introduced to natural climatic conditions of Shillong and Guwahati of North East India showed inadequate survivability. Unlike storage at room temperature which is detrimental for seed viability, low temperature storage under refrigeration and natural climatic condition of Ladakh retains viability for prolonged period.

Opis:
Flame retardant and antimicrobial functionalities were imparted in jute textile using sodium metasilicate nonahydrate (SMSN), commonly known as “water glass”. Sodium metasilicate nonahydrate (SMSN) was applied in jute fabric in different concentration by padding method followed by drying. Flame retardancy of the fabric was evaluated by Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) and burning behaviour under vertical flammability tester including the char length. Burning rate was found to decrease by almost 10 times after an application of 2% SMSN compared to the control sample. Thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis of both the control and treated jute fabrics were utilized to understand the mechanism of developed flame retardance in jute fabric. It was observed that the SMSN treated samples showed excellent antimicrobial property against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Antimicrobial properties of both the control and treated jute fabrics were also measured quantitatively.

Opis:
Homogeneous Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/Carbon nanotube (CNT) composite has been prepared by solution casting method using gum acacia as a surfactant. CNT content in the composite was varied from 5-10 % by weight. The thermal properties of PVA/CNT composites were investigated by Thermo Gravimetric/Differential Thermal Analyzer (TG/DTA) and Thermo Mechanical Analyzer (TMA). TG/DTA results showed that higher thermal stability in higher percentage of CNT in the composites. The 10 % CNT containing PVA composite exhibit highest onset of melting, glass transition point and offset of melting temperature and the recoded values are 330.4K, 379K and 421.3K respectively. All of the result indicates that the developed PVA/CNT composite might be promising for use in solar cell application.

This paper describes the all-fiber dual-wavelength thulium ytterbium co-doped fiber laser by using a newly developed octagonal shaped double-clad thulium-ytterbium co-doped fiber as gain medium in conjunction with spatial filtering effect. The thulium ytterbium co-doped fiber laser operates at wavelengths of 1990.64 nm and 1998.92 nm with a signal to noise ratio of more than 34 dB as the 980 nm multimode pump power is increased above a threshold value of 1.5 W. The slope efficiency of the dual-wavelength laser is measured to be around 26.16%, which is comparable with the conventional thulium laser pumped by 800 nm single mode pump.

Sodium alginate (TiO2) sand composites were prepared by solution casting. Purified sand was added in the composite films to increase electrical conductivity. Electrical properties such as conductivity, capacitance, dielectric constant, and loss tangent of the composites were investigated. The current voltage characteristics for all the composites showed ohmic behavior. All the electrical properties have been found to improve with the incorporation of sand (SiO2) but 6 % sand containing composite exhibits the best electrical properties. The mechanical properties tensile strength (TS), elongation at break (Eb) and Young modulus for 6 % sand containing composite film are found to be 4.445 MPa, 9.76 %, and 72.8 MPa respectively. The experimental results reveal that the blended films exhibit higher stability and improved mechanical properties of both tensile strength and elongation at break in dry state. Water absorption properties of the composites are found to decrease with the increase of sand content. Lowest water uptake properties and highest stability were demonstrated by 6 % sand containing sample. Electrically conductive composite films have useful applications for solar cells and optoelectronics. Thus, this study is very much expected to aid in the design and selection of proper composite for the potential application of solar cell and optoelectronics.

The present paper dealt with the annual dynamics of the absorption coefficient of chromophoric dissolved organic matter at 440 nm {aCDOM(440)} during February 2015 to January 2016 in the continental shelf of northern Bay of Bengal (nBoB) for the first time. Sea surface salinity (SSS), chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), total suspended matter (TSM) were also analyzed. It was hypothesized that CDOM should exhibit significant spatial and temporal variability in this region. aCDOM(440) and spectral slope ranged between 0.1002 m1—0.6631 m1 and 0.0071 nm1— 0.0229 nm1 respectively during the entire study period. Higher values of aCDOM(440) were observed in the near shore stations and gradually decreased towards the offshore. Significant seasonal variability of aCDOM(440) was observed between the monsoon and non-monsoon seasons ( p < 0.05). Thus the framed hypothesis was successfully accepted by means of the present study. The CDOM was mainly found to be of allochthonous character in this region. aCDOM(440) portrayed a significant negative linear relationship with SSS (R2 = 0.80; p < 0.05) implying conservative mixing of marine and terrestrial end members. However, examining the spatial variability of the relationship, it was observed that this relationship was significant only in the nearshore stations. While examining the seasonal variability of this relationship, it was found to be most significant during the monsoon (R2 = 0.81; p < 0.05). Thus it was inferred that whenever the SSS gradient was higher, the relationship between aCDOM(440) and SSS was found to be most significant.

This work reports the temperature and frequency dependence electrical properties of Ca doped ZnO ($Zn_{1-x}Ca_{x}O$, x=0.01) nanoceramic synthesized by solid state reaction method. The X-ray spectra show that the synthesized powder has hexagonal wurtzite structure with space group P6₃mc. The average crystallite size decreases with Ca doping. The increase in oxygen positional parameter (u) indicates lattice distortion in the crystal structure. Doping with Ca caused a slight shift in the (101) plane peak towards lower diffraction angle. The formation of pores in field emission scanning electron microscopy micrograph may be due to the defect created by Ca substitution. The electrical property was investigated by impedance spectroscopy in the temperature range 300-500°C. The synthesized sample shows temperature dependence relaxation phenomena and negative temperature coefficient of resistance effects. Electrical conductivity ($σ_{ac}$) increases with increase in temperature as well as with frequency due to the drift mobility of electrons and hole by hopping conduction. Dielectric constant was found to decrease with increase in frequency and temperature. This decreases drastically in the magnitude of approximately < 10 times than the corresponding undoped one.

Opis:
An ad hoc wireless network consists of mobile networks which create an underlying architecture for communication without the help of traditional fixed-position routers. There are different protocols for handling the routing in the mobile environment. Routing protocols used in fixed infrastructure networks cannot be efficiently used for mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET), so it requires different protocols. The node moves at different speeds in an independent random form, connected by any number of wireless links, where each node is ready to pass or forward both data and control traffic unrelated to its own use ahead (routing) to other nodes in a flexible interdependence of wireless communication in between. In contrast to infrastructure wireless networks, where the communication between network nodes is take place by a special node known as an access point. It is also, in contrast to wired networks in which the routing task is performed by special and specific devices called routers and switches. In this paper, we consider fuzzy inference system, an attempt has been made to present a model using fuzzy logic approach to evaluate and compare three routing protocols i.e. AODV, DSDV and DSR using effective factor of the number of nodes based on 3 outputs of control overhead, delay and PDR (totally fuzzy system with 4 outputs) in order to select one of these two routing protocols properly under different conditions and based on need and goal. To show efficiency and truth of fuzzy system, three protocols have been evaluated equally using NS-2 simulator and attempt has been made to prove efficiency of the designed fuzzy system by comparing results of simulation of fuzzy system and NS-2 software.

In India, particularly in West Bengal, preadolescents are primarily associated with agricultural work in rural areas. Owing to poor socio-economic conditions, they are compelled to carry out a considerable number of manual, rigorous tasks in agricultural fields. The main aim of this study was to investigate postures adopted by preadolescent agricultural workers during individual agricultural activities and to analyze the causes of discomfort related to those postures. Fifty male and 50 female preadolescent agricultural workers were randomly selected and a detailed posture analysis was performed with the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS). It was observed that those workers worked continuously in awkward postures during certain agricultural activities. Consequently they suffered from discomfort in different parts of their body. Even though they were very young, they were likely to suffer from serious musculoskeletal disorders in the future.

Two tricomponent room temperature nematic eutectic mixtures ABC and ABD with laterally fluorinated constituents A and B were prepared as base mixtures for vertically aligned mode LCD's. The physical properties of these mixtures viz. birefringence, dielectric anisotropy, bend elastic constant, relaxation time and rotational viscosities were determined in order to compare with the optimum values required to achieve the target specifications of VA mode materials. The dielectric anisotropy, Δ ε, and optical birefringence, Δ n, of these mixtures were found to be in the range of (-1.3 to -1.4) and (0.13 and 0.14), respectively, at around 20°C. The figure of merit for the ABD mixture has been found to be higher than that of ABC mixture throughout the entire temperature range. The pretilt angle effect in the physical parameters has also been studied. At T=20°C, the response time decreases to 25% and 35% for mixture ABC for 2° and 5° pretilt respectively in comparison to zero pretilt. On the other hand, at the same temperature for the ABD mixture these values are reduced by 16% and 35%, respectively.

Opis:
Two tri-component mixtures as base mixtures for vertically aligned mode LCD's were prepared. The eutectic compositions were theoretically estimated and experimentally verified from differential scanning calorimetry studies. A room temperature nematic mixture with fairly broad operating range emerged from each of the tri-component mixtures. The optical birefringence of these mixtures at the eutectic composition was measured as a function of temperature. X-ray diffraction measurements were done on these mixtures to obtain the orientational order parameters as a function of temperature. The order parameter values were also determined from birefringence measurements and the results were compared with mean field theory. Structural parameters like intermolecular distance and apparent molecular length have also been determined.

Stonecutting and setting are important tasks in a construction site. A field study was conducted to assess occupational-related disorders and to conduct ergonomics assessment among stonecutters. The study focused on (a) the duration of work per day, (b) the working environment and working activities and (c) the feeling of discomfort in different parts of the body. A detailed posture analysis was performed with the Ovako working posture analysis system (OWAS). It was observed that stonecutters worked continuously in awkward postures during stonecutting and setting. Consequently, they suffered from discomfort in different parts of their body, specifically in the lower back, knees and shoulders, which mainly prevented them from continuing their work. This study also revealed that stonecutters had to work in congested work areas with a poor level of illumination. The noise level and dust particles emitted during stonecutting activities could affect stonecutters.

Sixty female prawn seed collectors and 60 female control subjects from Sajenakhali and Sandeshkhali blocks of Sunderbans, West Bengal, India, were randomly selected to evaluate and compare musculoskeletal disorders and physiological stress. The control group was engaged in domestic work involving minimum handintensive activities. The modified Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire and rapid entire body assessmentwere used. Most subjects suffered from discomfort in different body parts, especially in the lower back (98%), knees (88%), shoulders (75%), ankles (70%) and feet (67%). This study reveals that female prawn seed collectors suffer from significant physiological load and extreme physiological stress due to prolonged working hours in a standing posture and excessive work pressure. Consequently, all these factors affect female prawn seed collectors’ health and work performance.

In this study, the influence of temperature and wall slip conditions on the unsteady flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting nanofluid squeezed between two parallel disks in the presence of an applied magnetic field is investigated numerically. Using the similarity transformation, the governing coupled partial differential equations are transformed into similarity non-linear ordinary differential equations which are solved numerically using the Nachtsheim and Swigert shooting iteration technique together with the sixth order Runge-Kutta integration scheme. The effects of various emerging parameters on the flow characteristics are determined and discussed in detail. To check the reliability of the method, the numerical results for the skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number in the absence of slip conditions are compared with the results reported by the predecessors and an excellent agreement is observed between the two sets of results.

Opis:
The most convenient way of presenting one- or two-dimensional offered traffic in a network by Markovian chain to evaluate quality of service (QoS). Pictorial presentation of chain becomes very complicated for three dimensional traffic case, required for voice data integrated service/mixed traffic of mobile cellular network; hence application of cut or node equations become a cumbersome job. This paper proposes a model of three-dimensional traffic in a network for both unlimited and limited user case. Here direct analytical method is introduced instead of Markovian chain to achieve traffic parameters.

The most important feature of 3G mobile cellular network is introduction of voice data integrated service under multilayered cell environment to support overflow traffic of lower layered cells by upper ones. This paper deals with traffic model of three layered cells, i.e., micro cell, macro cell and satellite cell. Here a new call admission control is introduced for three layered cell of 3G mobile cellular network. State transition chain is designed for theoretical analysis of above mentioned traffic. Blocking probability of data call, new voice call and handover failure of voice call, probability of utilization of micro cell channel, macro cell channel and satellite cell channel are analyzed against different traffic parameters and yield logical results.

The fundamental equations of the two dimensional generalized thermoelasticity (L-S model) with one relaxation time parameter in orthotropic elastic slab has been considered under effect of rotation. The normal mode analysis is used to the basic equations of motion and heat conduction equation. Finally, the resulting equations are written in the form of a vector-matrix differential equation which is then solved by the eigenvalue approach. The field variables in the space time domain are obtained numerically. The results corresponding to the cases of conventional thermoelasticity CTE), extended thermoelasticity (ETE) and temperature rate dependent thermoelasticity (TRDTE) are compared by means of graphs.

In this work the theory of two temperature generalized thermoelasticity has been used to investigate the problem of reflection of P-wave and SV-wave in a half space when the surface is i) thermally insulated or ii) isothermal. The ratios of the reflection coefficient to that of the incident coefficient for different cases are obtained for P-wave and SV-waves. The results for various cases for the conductive and dynamical temperature have been compared. The results arrived at in the absence of the thermal field (elastic case) have also been compared with those in the existing literature. Finally, the results for various cases have been analyzed and depicted in graphs.

This study was undertaken among 100 randomly selected bus conductors from 2 routes. A questionnaire study based on the modified Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire, assessment of physical and physiological parameters, analysis of working postures and a detailed work study were performed. The analysis revealed that conductors had a work schedule of 16–18 h each day; the duration of work could vary from 15 to 20 days at a stretch. Discomfort leading to musculoskeletal disorders mainly affecting the leg (93.3%), knee (83.3%), shoulder (80%) and back areas (56.7%) had the highest 12-month prevalence rates and increased day by day.The conductors also suffered from extreme physiological stress due to prolonged working hours in hazardous standing posture conditions, excessive work pressure and minimum rest between trips. Consequently, all those factors affected their health and work performance.

The present study aims to detect morphological abnormalities in Zygnema sp. because this test species have high adaptive capacity in unfavourable environmental stress. This alga is inhabited at the suburban bank of river Ganga, West Bengal, India. The study was done at experimental sites, downstream at Khardah near sewage water mixing area was compared with upstream control site Kalyani as no sewage water discharge. External and internal abnormal morphology such as undulating or wavy and extra outgrowth on cell wall, sometimes bending inwardly and outwardly as external deformities while internal anomalies such as pigment loss, nucleus was in circular, rectangular, oval and amoeboid shapes, also vacuolated and trilobed, broom like chloroplasts and central part of the thallas dried in between two segments. It was observed that this test species was surviving and well adapted with above mentioned deformities. The present preliminary study with Zygnema sp. can be utilized for in situ and ex situ indicator species for riverine biomonitoring. Further research may be relevant to know both tolerant and sensitive algae species inhabited at the river Ganga bank alongwith biochemical and genetic parameters. The present work is suggesting that other inhabiting algae and this adaptive test species can be used for bioremediation of pollutants.

The trees support many bird and animal species while the survival of urban-dwelling species e.g. bird species dominate over others. This particular Nature park in Kolkata is the habitat of birds and fish species suggesting a better environment for food chain maintenance. The Asian open bill stork, Anastomus oscitans among other bird species is a common and provides ecosystem health indicator. The present study aims to understand the occurrence and population nos. of Asian open bill stork on particular tree species surrounding wetlands at Nature Park, Kolkata, India. Our results clearly indicate that a total population of this bird species having 671 nos. on the particular trees but not in all other available trees in the study area. In conclusion, present research emphasizes a novel occurrence and higher population of the A. oscitans being observed on the basis of the presence of particular tree species, though no attempt has been made on physico-chemical properties of present water and microclimate within the park. Therefore, further research planning should be oriented considering the physico-chemical impacts as well as local microenvironment along with human interaction as visitors in such a way so that these barriers cannot affect nesting and breeding of those species as eco-indicator. Also further relevant research is needed to emphasize on the conservation of these specific tree species to increase population of Asian open bill stork, A. oscitans in Nature park.

The problem of considerable contamination of the aqueous environment with organic pollutants still requires the development of quick and simple methods for the removal, separation and determination of these compounds. The main classes of organic compounds that most of the industries use and discharge into the effluents are phenol, surfactant and dye. All these compounds are troublesome contaminants which pose not only to toxicity and health hazards but also hamper the environmental treatment processes. In chemical industry phenol is considered as an important starting materials for numerous intermediates and finished products. It is used for the production of a wide range of consumer goods and process materials ranging from adhesives, resins, emulsifiers and detergents, plasticizers, herbicides, dyes and flavors. The worldwide production of phenol is estimated to be 5 million tons per year. Phenol and its analogues are known to be toxic to microbes. The sign of acute illness induced by phenols in experimental animals as well as in humans is known. Continuous ingestion of phenol for a prolonged period of time causes mouth sore, diarrhoea, excretion of dark urine and impaired vision at concentration levels 10÷240 ppm. Lethal blood concentration for phenol is around 1.3 g/L. phenols are toxic to several biochemical functions and to fish life. It acts as a substrate inhibitor in the bio-transformation. World Health Organization (WHO) prescribed a concentration 1 ppb as the guideline concentration in drinking water [1]. Disposal of dyeing industry waste water pose one of the major problem, because such effluents contain a number of contaminants including acid or base, dissolve solids, surfactants and color. Out of these, color is the first contaminant to be recognized because it is visible to human eye. The dye causes the harmful action to various aquatic lives. As it is resistant to light it protects the sunlight from penetrating through it and reduces the aesthetic quality of water. Possible methods of color removal include chemical oxidation, froth flotation, coagulation, adsorption, etc. The anionic surfactants generally are removed by the chemical precipitation, foam separation, ultrafiltration and adsorption. Possible means of removal of phenols from waste water include ion exchange, reverse osmosis, chemical oxidation, precipitation, distillation, gas stripping, solvent extraction, adsorption or bio remediation. Removal of SDS, 4-nitrophenol and malachite green by activated carbon is an efficient and acceptable process. But the cost of operation is very high. Therefore, the present study is undertaken using fly ash as the adsorbent. Compared to activated carbon the efficiency of removal is less in case of 4-nitrophenol and SDS. But fly ash, being a waste material, is very cheap; only the carrying cost from the site of thermal plant to the laboratory is needed. Thus the use of fly ash in removing organic pollutants appears to be a cost viable. The simplicity of the technique makes the process quite acceptable.
Obecność organicznych zanieczyszczeń w strumieniu ścieków znacznie degraduje jakość wody. Zarówno własność estetyczne jaki i organizmy wodne stają wobec niebezpieczeństwa związanego z taką degradacją. Usunięcie zanieczyszczeń organicznych szczególnie za pomącą prostych i tanich metod jest wyzwaniem dla naukowców zajmujących się środowiskiem. Obecnie komunikaty naukowe mówią o możliwości zastosowania popiołów lotnych, odpadów stałych powstających w elektrociepłowniach, w usuwaniu albo redukcji ładunków niektórych organicznych zanieczyszczeń. W referacie przedstawiono wyniki badań nad adsorpcją siarczanu dodecylu sodu SDS (anionowy środek powierzchniowo czynny), zieleni malachitowej MG oraz 4-nitrofenolu na popiołach lotnych. Usunięcie SDS, 4-nitrofenolu i zieleni malachitowej na węglu aktywnym jest skutecznym i zadowalającym procesem. Ale koszt tej operacji jest bardzo wysoki. Dlatego, przedsięwzięto obecne badania używając popiołów lotnych jako substancji adsorbująca. W porównaniu do węgla aktywnego efektywność usunięcia na popiołach lotnych jest mniejsza w przypadku 4-nitrofenolu i SDS. Ale popioły lotne, będąc odpadem, są bardzo tanie. W ten sposób użycie popiołów lotnych w usuwaniu organicznych zanieczyszczeń okazuje się być wykonalne pod względem kosztów. Proces jest wykonalny kinetycznie i termodynamicznie, prosty w wykonaniu i tani.

Forest cover in hills is essential to maintain environmental, economic and ecological balances. North Bengal accounts for 3,086 sq km (26 %) of the 11,876 sq km area of classified forests in the state, and for nearly 5,000 sq km (40 %) of all land under tree cover. Upper Chatakpur is one of the emerging ecotourism spots of north Bengal, located at an altitude of 7887 feet in Darjeeling district. It is a 180 years old ethnic village with 19 houses and a population of about 89, and at an altitude of 7887 ft. It is about 8 km. from Sonada (26° 57' N, 88° 16' E), 22 km. from Darjeeling (26° 2' N, 88° 15' E) and 72 km. from Siliguri (26° 42' N, 88° 25' E). Upper Chatakpur Village situated within Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, Darjeeling. The sanctuary with an area of 38.88 sq. km has an elevation of 1500-2600 m. The survey work was done in December, 2014 by visiting upper Chatakpur village and the primary data were gathered through field survey and direct contact with common people and authorized centers of the region. Surveys on the topography, demography, agriculture, livestock, water management, education, culture, health, waste management, transport, biodiversity, human animal conflict were done in this area. Medicinal plant diversity was studied in the village area and information was gathered from the local forest department centre. Information regarding the transport system was collected from the local transport office and syndicate. Census report was collected from the Sonada Panchayat Office. Health and education information was collected from the local primary school and the local sub health centre. Information on sustainable agricultural practices and waste management policies is collected through surveys in the village houses and agricultural fields. Biodiversity of Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary was documented by visiting the forest areas. Pictorial documentation was done in every phase of study. In spite of getting so much attention in the recent time, the village is not adequately developed. There is an urgent need for implementing sustainable management systems in the areas for the betterment of the socio-environmental structures. Some of the possible management strategies have been suggested for maintaining the social, environmental, economic and ecological balance of the region.

The variation of normalized electrical resistivity in the system of glasses $Ge_{15}Te_{85-x}Sn_{x}$ with (1 ≤ x ≤ 5) has been studied as a function of high pressure for pressures up to 9.5 GPa. It is found that with the increase in pressure, the resistivity decreases initially and shows an abrupt fall at a particular pressure, indicating the phase transition from semiconductor to near metallic at these pressures, which lie in the range 1.5-2.5 GPa, and then continues being metallic up to 9.5 GPa. This transition pressure is seen to decrease with the increase in the percentage content of tin due to increasing metallicity of tin. The semiconductor to near metallic transition is exactly reversible and may have its origin in a reduction of the band gap due to high pressure.

A beam structure under natural vibration in presence of crack undergoes a sharp change in its dynamic characteristics. In the present study the changes in two important modal vibration parameters like mode shapes and natural frequencies have been extensively studied for crack diagnosis in presence and absence of crack. Numerical and experimental investigations have been carried out using an aluminium Free-Free beam structure with and without crack. The crack presence is indicative of a decrease in local flexibility at crack location and a variation in mode shapes and natural frequencies are noticed. These variations in modal parameters have been used as the tools for crack diagnosis. In the present paper, efforts are made to analyse the presence of a crack using the application of fuzzy logic methodology. Here relative natural frequencies preferably first three are derived from experimental and theoretical investigations are utilised as input data to the fuzzy controller with Gaussian membership functions to obtain crack position and crack depth as output data. The resulted output data from fuzzy logic and the result from corresponding experimental and numerical analysis have been compared.The deviation of result of fuzzy logic from numerical and experimental results have been found to be within a limit of 3%.

Methane is a most important greenhouse gas for planetary heating and it’s produced by methanogenic microorganisms as a metabolic byproduct and creates climate change. Methanogens are ancient organisms on earth found in anaerobic environments and methane is a key greenhouse gas concerned with methanogens. Therefore here is intense interest to writing this paper. A number of experiments have already conducted to study the methanogens in various environments such as rumen and intestinal system of animals, fresh water and marine sediments, swamps and marshes, hot springs, sludge digesters, and within anaerobic protozoa which utilize carbon dioxide in the presence of hydrogen and produce methane. The diversity of methanogens, belong to the domain Archaea and get involved in biological production of methane that catalyzes the degradation of organic compound as a part of global carbon cycle called methanogenesis. Majorly in this article we summaries the diversity of methanogens and their impact on global warming.

Bone quality varies from one patient to another extensively; also, Young’s modulus may deviate up to 40% of normal bone quality, which results into alteration of bone stiffness immensely. The prime goal of this study is to design the optimum dental implant considering the mechanical response at bone implant interfaces for a patient with specific bone quality. Method. 3D model of mandible and natural molar tooth were prepared from CT scan data while, dental implants were modelled using different diameter, length and porosity and FE analysis was carried out. Based on the variation in bone density, five different bone qualities were considered. First, failure analysis of implants, under maximum biting force of 250N had been performed; next, the implants, those survived were selected for observing the mechanical response at bone implant interfaces under common chewing load of 120N. Result. Maximum Von Mises stress did not surpass the yield strength of the implant material (TiAl4V). However, factor of safety of 1.5 was considered and all but two dental implants survived the design stress or allowable stress. Under 120N load, distribution of Von Mises stress and strain at the bone-implant interface corresponding to the rest of the implants for five bone conditions were obtained and enlisted. Conclusion. Implants, exhibiting interface strain within 1500-3000 microstrain range show the best bone remodelling and osseointegration. So, implant models, having this range of interface strains were selected corresponding to the particular bone quality. A set of optimum dental implants for each of the bone qualities were predicted.

The knowledge behind the culture and beliefs of indigenous community needs to be harnessed and should be used to complement the modern technologies and policies for better and sustainable use of biological resources and increase resilience of the sector associated. The main objective of the current research was to study Jhum (Traditional Shifting Cultivation System) and the cycles and culture associated with it. The study was done in northeast Himalayan region of India and phenomenological approach was used. The research reveals that Jhum is the component of traditional agro-ecosystem encompassing diverse set of knowledge and practices of indigenous and local communities embodying traditional life-styles relevant for the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources for their livelihood. The cycle associated with the system reflects the synergy of practices with the natural phenomenon and indicators. Contrary to common modern belief, Jhum is carbon sink, maintain soil health, preserve biological diversity and sustain local climate. Forest clearing during Jhum is not deforestation but forest modification allowing forest regrowth during sufficiently long fallow. Fundamentally, Jhum as a system is an integrated approach to establish agro-ecosystem in the difficult terrains of tropical hill regions that involve forest, soil, biodiversity and livestock management through their culture, tradition and rituals that coevolved with associated ecosystem. Instead of being threat to climate or environment, the system can provide deeper insight into the many different aspects of sustainable and climate resilient development; and the interrelated role of local peoples and their cultures.

Objective. We examined the personality correlates of accident-proneness of auto-rickshaw drivers in the Indian city of Ranchi. Methods. This was a cross-sectional study in which 50 male drivers aged 18-50 years, selected randomly from a list of licensed auto-rickshaw drivers in Ranchi, were assessed with a Hindi version of Cattell's 16 Personality Factors (l6-PF) Questionnaire. Results. There was a significantly higher frequency of breaking rules, crossing speed limits, substance use and a trend towards a higher frequency of carrying extra persons (i.e., more than recommended) in accident-prone drivers. There was significant negative correlation of accident-proneness with 16-PF factors such as reasoning, rule consciousness, apprehension and emotional stability. Conclusion. Personality characteristics with lower scores of reasoning, rule consciousness, apprehension and emotional stability are common in commercial auto-rickshaw drivers with high accident-proneness.

We present the preliminary results on direct photon interferometry measurements in Au+Au collisions at square root sNN = 62.4 GeV and 200 GeV using the STAR (solenoidal tracker at RHIC) detector. Photons are reconstructed via e+/e- conversions in STAR Time Projection Chamber (TPC) and energy deposited by photons in STAR Barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter (BEMC). The two-photon correlations are measured using (1) both photons measured with BEMC; (2) one photon from conversions and the other measured with BEMC. Both the methodologies and the possible constraints in the correlation function measurements are discussed.

The study aims to elucidate the impact of organic inputs on strength and structural stability of aggregates in a sandy loam soil. Tensile strength, friability and water stability of aggregates, and the carbon contents in bulk soil and in large macro (>2 mm), small macro (0.25-2 mm), micro (0.053-0.25 mm) and silt+clay size (<0.053) aggregates were evaluated in soils from a long-term experiment with rice-wheat rotation at Modipuram, India, with different sources and amounts of organic C inputs as partial substitution of N fertilizer. Addition of organic substrates significantly improved soil organic C contents, but the type and source of inputs had different impacts. Tensile strength of aggregates decreased and friability increased through organic inputs, with a maximum effect under green gram residue (rice)-farmyard manure (wheat) substitution. Higher macroaggregates in the crop residue- and farmyard manure-treated soils resulted in a higher aggregate mean weight diameter, which also had higher soil organic C contents. The bulk soil organic C had a strong relation with the mean weight diameter of aggregates, but the soil organic C content in all aggregate fractions was not necessarily effective for aggregate stability. The soil organic C content in large macroaggregates (2-8 mm) had a significant positive effect on aggregate stability, although a reverse effect was observed for aggregates <0.25 mm. Partial substitution of nitrogen by organic substrates improved aggregate properties and the soil organic C content in bulk soil and aggregate fractions, although the relative effect varied with the source and amount of the organic inputs.

The present investigation was aimed to study an antiepileptic activity of methanolic extract of Tragia involucrata Linn in mice. In vivo screening models like maximal electroshock-induced convulsion (MES), pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) and picrotoxin (PTX) induced models are used to evaluate the antiepileptic effects of the extracts. The biochemical estimation was done by measuring the lipid peroxidation and reduced glutathione (GSH). In the MES induced convulsion, methanolic extract of Tragia involucrata (METI) at high dose (800 mg/kg body weight), showed high significant inhibition on tonic hind limb extension (THLE, 6.83 ±0.30***) and decrease in duration of stupor period (108.7 ±6.53***). In PTZ and PTX induced model METI (400 mg/kg and 800 mg/kg) showed significant delay on the onset of convulsions, decreased duration of convulsion and reduced mortality significantly. It also showed significant decrease in brain MDA level in lipid peroxidation profile, and increase in the brain glutathione levels in mice against PTZ induced convulsion. The results confirmed that Tragia involucrata Linn possesses dose dependent antiepileptic activity.
