The paper presents the results of acute toxicity investigation of sewage and sewage sludge samples from the municipal treatment plant located in Bialystok. The toxicity was measured by means of the acute test using luminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri and by Microtox Model 500 analyzer. According to Sawicki’s classification, three out of five raw sewage samples were of high toxicity, contrary to the treated wastewaters in which no toxicity was observed. The obtained results confirmed the correct work of the plant. Treated sewage did not contain toxic chemicals and was safety for the environment. It was also found that regardless of the assessment system, sewage sludge was characterized by high or very high toxicity. Its use may cause a significant threat to the environment.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań toksyczności ścieków surowych i oczyszczonych pochodzących z trzech komunalnych oczyszczalni ścieków położonych w województwie podlaskim. Analiza bioindykacyjna, wykonana w oparciu o analizator Microtox M500 i bakterie Vibrio fischeri, wykazała, że wszystkie próbki badanych ścieków surowych odznaczały się wysoką toksycznością lub istotną toksycznością wg klasyfikacji Persoone. Klasyfikacja Sawickiego bardziej różnicuje wyniki testów ostrych ścieków surowych, bo tylko 66% badanych próbek uznano za toksyczne. Wszystkie próbki ścieków oczyszczonych nie wykazały toksyczności. Uzyskane rezultaty badań wskazują na skuteczność usuwania związków toksycznych w oczyszczalniach ścieków opartych o klasyczną technologię osadu czynnego jak i wykorzystujących reaktory sekwencyjne typu SBR i brak zagrożenia przy odprowadzaniu ścieków oczyszczonych do wód odbiorników.
This paper presents the results of the toxicity of crude and purified sewage from three municipal sewage treatment plants located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The bioindicative analysis, based on the use of the Microtox M500 analyzer and Vibrio fischeri bacteria, has shown high or significant toxicity in all the raw wastewater samples, according to Persoone classification. Classification by Sawicki differentiates more the results of acute toxicity tests of crude sewage, because only 66% of samples were toxic. All treated wastewater samples showed no toxicity. The obtained results of the study indicate the efficacy of removing toxic compounds in waste water treatment plants based on the classic activated sludge technology and sequential reactors (SBR) and no risk at discharging the treated sewage into the water of receivers.

Opis:
Six-month experiments have been carried out using pilot installations of low-budget methods of sewage sludge treatment. Sewage sludge was processed using vermiculture or plants such as willow or reed. The study was also conducted in a solar dryer. In some parts of the research, effective microorganisms were used. The results of the sediment research, including: contents of organic and mineral matter, hydration reaction, contents of nitrogen and phosphorus, as well as the indicators of the sanitary condition, were presented. The results confirmed a perceptible influence of the effective microorganisms on the structure of the dry mass of dairy sewage dewatered on reed and willow plots or transformed into vermicompost. A slight, however, apparent difference in a faster and more effective mineralization of organic substances contained in the sludge after half a year of processing, as well as significant reduction of the number of potential pathogenic bacteria was observed.

The purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of heavy metals on the photosynthetic pigments of chlorophyll a, b and the carotenoids found in the cells of algae Chlorella vulgaris. In order to analyze the influence of heavy metals on Chlorella vulgaris algae, two heavy metals were chosen, i.e. copper and zinc. The samples for analysis were collected daily for 7 days. Copper(II) sulphate, which is widely regarded as an algicide, was used in the study. Chlorella vulgaris grows at the highest concentration tested, amounting to 0.15 mg CuSO4/dm3. In the trial with a concentration of 0.15 mg CuSO4/dm3, a decrease in the content of chlorophyll was observed, which was lower by 63% in comparison to the control sample, 7 days after incubation was observed. In the second study using zinc(II) sulphate at a concentration of 100 mg ZnSO4/dm3, the death of Chlorella vulgaris was observed after 5 days of incubation. In subsequent tests with lower concentrations of zinc(II) sulphate, Chlorella vulgaris is growing, but with lesser dynamics than in the case of the control sample. The increase in the content of photosynthetic pigments, along with the incubation time, indicates the development of algae breeding. The conducted research shows that the Chlorella vulgaris algae has a specific resistance to the presence of the elevated content of tested heavy metals in the breeding medium.

W pracy przedstawiono gospodarkę osadową prowadzoną w Oczyszczalni Ścieków w Białymstoku oraz kierunki zagospodarowania osadów wytwarzanych przez oczyszczalnię. Oczyszczalnia Ścieków w Białymstoku jest oczyszczalnią mechaniczno-biologiczną, która stosuje metodę osadu czynnego w procesie oczyszczania ścieków i przeróbkę osadów ściekowych. Biogaz wytwarzany w komorach fermentacyjnych przeznaczany jest na wytwarzanie energii cieplnej i elektrycznej na potrzeby oczyszczalni. Energia cieplna wykorzystywana jest do ogrzania komór fermentacyjnych. Zapewnia to oczyszczalni obniżenie kosztów wynikających z poboru energii z sieci miejskiej oraz zabezpiecza inwestycję w przypadku awarii sieci. Właściwości osadów ściekowych z oczyszczalni w Białymstoku mają zmienny charakter, kształtowany przez rodzaj oczyszczanych ścieków i zastosowane metody przeróbki osadów. Ze względu na swoje właściwości odwodnione osady ściekowe z Oczyszczalni Ścieków w Białymstoku są wykorzystywane do procesu kompostowania, a także do uprawy roślin przeznaczonych na kompost. Po wysuszeniu do postaci granulatu są stosowane do nawożenia lub współspalane jako dodatek do paliw.
The paper presents the sludge management in the wastewater treatment plant in Bialystok and the guidelines of sludge usage produced by this plant. Sewage treatment plant in Bialystok is a mechanical-biological plant, which uses the method of activated sludge in the wastewater treatment process, sludge treatment and the utilization of biogas. Biogas produced in the digesters is used in the production of heat and electricity for the sewage treatment plant. Thermal energy is used to heat the digester. Therefore it reduces the costs of energy consumption from the urban network and protects the investment in case of network breakdown. Sludge properties from the sewage treatment plant in Bialystok have changeable character, shaped by the type of treated wastewater and sludge treatment methods. Due to its properties, dehydrated sludge from wastewater treatment plant in Bialystok is used to: compost, grow plants intended for the production of compost and dried sludge in form of granulate - to fertilize and co-incinerate.

The study was conducted on three specially prepared test areas along main streets of Bialystok. The experimental plots were sown with two lawn grass mixtures: Eko and Roadside, and three doses of sewage sludge 0.0 (control), 7.5 kg/m2 and 15.0 kg/m2 were used. The calculated bioconcentration factor made possible to determine the mobility of the various metals from the soil solution to the aerial parts of plants. The obtained results showed that the plants absorbed Cd, Zn, Cu easier than Pb and Ni suggesting a high mobility, in particular of Cd, Zn, Cu, and reflects the easiness extraction of those metals by plants. Significant correlations between concentrations of metals in soil and grass were observed, nickel in soil was significantly correlated with Cd, Zn and Cu in plants, while the Zn content in soil with the level of Cu in plants.

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of municipal sewage sludge from the Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant in Sokolka on the content of magnesium and selected micronutrients such as zinc, manganese, copper and iron in the soil and lawn grasses and on the content of chlorophyll a and b in the analyzed plants. These elements are especially important in the process of photosynthesis. In addition, the paper discusses the relationship between the studied elements and the content of assimilation pigments. The experimental plots were sown with two lawn grass mixtures: Eko and Roadside, and three doses of sewage sludge 0.0 (control), 7.5 kg •m–2 and 15.0 kg •m–2 were used. Chlorophyll a and b content was determined using spectrophotometer by measuring absorbance at λ= 663 and 645 nm. Metals concentrations in soils with sewage sludge and in plant material were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. It was found that the sludge dose had a significant effect on the manganese content in the soil taken from the experiment in Piastowska Street. In the experiment in Popieluszki Street the application of sewage sludge had a significant impact on the content of zinc and copper in the studied mixtures of grasses and in Raginisa Street – on the contents of zinc, copper and manganese. The analysis of correlations for the results obtained from experiment in Hetmanska Street revealed strong positive correlations between the content of Zn and Mn in the soil and the content of chlorophyll a in plants (r = 0.84 and r = 0.83, respectively) and strong negative correlations between the content of Zn in the soil and the content of chlorophyll b in lawn grasses collected in June and August (r = –0.81 and r = –0.85, respectively). Strong correlations between the concentration of zinc and the content of chlorophyll b in grass samples collected in Hetmanska Street, Piastowska Street and Popieluszki Street (r = 0.85, r = 0.86 and r = 0.98, respectively) and the Cu content in plants and chlorophyll b for plants collected in Hetmanska Street (r = 0.97), Piastowska Street (r = 0.86), Popieluszki Street (r = 0.90) and Raginisa Street (r = 0.82). The content of chlorophyll b was differentiated by dose of sludge and sampling time. The highest average chlorophyll b content in the grass samples collected in June and July was found (1.10 mg •g–1 of f.m.), and the lowest in samples collected in October (0.39 mg •g–1 of f.m.). The content of chlorophyll a in the analyzed samples of grasses decreased depending on the sampling time. As with the chlorophyll b content the lowest average content of chlorophyll a was in samples collected in October (0.45 mg •g–1 of f.m.). The average content of chlorophyll a in samples collected in June and July were similar independently of the fertilization of sewage sludge (0.64 mg •g–1 of f.m.)
Celem badań było określenie wpływu komunalnego osadu ściekowego, pochodzącego z Miejskiej Oczyszczalni Ścieków w Sokółce, na zawartość magnezu i wybranych mikroskładników, tj. cynku, manganu, miedzi i żelaza w glebie i mieszankach traw gazonowych oraz na zawartość chlorofilu a i b w analizowanych roślinach. Wybrane składniki mineralne mają ważne znaczenie w procesie fotosyntezy. Ponadto w pracy określono zależności pomiędzy badanymi pierwiastkami a zawartością barwników asymilacyjnych. Na poletkach wysiano dwie mieszanki traw gazonowych: Eko i Roadside oraz zastosowano trzy dawki osadu ściekowego: 0 (kontrola), 7.5 kg m–2 i 15 kg m–2. Całkowitą zawartość metali w glebie i w roślinach określono metodą absorpcyjnej spektrometrii atomowej, natomiast zawartość chlorofilu a i b za pomocą spektrofotometru, mierząc absorbancję przy długościach fali λ = 663 i 645 nm. Stwierdzono, że dawka osadu ściekowego miała istotny wpływ na zawartość manganu w glebie w doświadczeniu przy ul Piastowskiej. W doświadczeniu przy ul. Popiełuszki dawka osadu ściekowego wpłynęła istotnie na zawartość cynku i miedzi w badanych mieszankach traw, natomiast przy ul. Raginisa na zawartość cynku, miedzi i manganu. Analiza korelacji wykazała silną współzależność pomiędzy stężeniem cynku a zawartością chlorofilu b w próbkach traw pobranych przy ul. Hetmańskiej, Piastowskiej i Popiełuszki, (r = 0,85, r = 0,86 i r = 0,98) oraz zawartością miedzi i chlorofilu b w roślinach pobranych przy ul Hetmańskiej (r = 0,97), Piastowskiej (r = 0,86), Popiełuszki (0,90) i Raginisa (r = 0,82). Termin poboru próbek oraz zastosowany dodatek osadu ściekowego istotnie różnicowały zawartość chlorofilu b. Największą zawartość chlorofilu b stwierdzono w próbkach traw pobranych w czerwcu i w lipcu (1,10 mg g–1 ś.m.), natomiast najmniejsze w próbkach z października (0,39 mg g–1 ś.m.). Z kolei zawartość chlorofilu a w analizowanych próbkach traw zmniejszała się w zależności od terminu poboru. Podobnie jak w przypadku chlorofilu b najmniejszą zawartość chlorofilu a stwierdzono w próbach zebranych w październiku, średnio ok. 0,45 mg g–1 ś.m, natomiast od lipca do czerwca zawartość chlorofilu a utrzymywała się na podobnym poziomie średnio ok. 0,64 mg g–1 ś.m. bez względu na zastosowany dodatek osadu.

The paper presents the results of research on the use of sewage sludge from the municipal sewage treatment plant in Białystok for fertilization of urban lawns. To fertilize the ground two types of deposits were used: stabilized sludge after the dewatering process in the press and granular sludge after drying in the sludge dryer. Two doses of sludge were used – 5 and 10 kg/m2. Effective microorganisms (EM) were added to the test plots. Both doses of the applied sewage sludge contributed significantly to the growth of grass biomass. Aboveground biomass of the plants was significantly correlated with the concentration of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in the surface layer of the soil. The addition of EM to soil containing the dewatered sludge from the press reduced significantly the content of heavy metals in the soil, as opposed to the sludge in a form of granules with addition of EM, which contributed to the increase of their concentration in the soil.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of various doses of municipal sewage sludge on the growth of biomass of aboveground parts of lawn grass mixtures and their macronutrients and chlorophyll content. Four experiments on the lawns along the main roads of Bialystok (at Popieluszki, Hetmanska, Piastowska and Raginisa Strs.) were founded. Three doses of sewage sludge (0.0 – control; 7.5 and 15.0 kg m–2) and two grass mixtures: Eko and Roadside were factors in experiment. Samples of aboveground part of grasses were collected 3 times: in June, August and October 2011, after that dry matter of the aboveground part of grasses from 1 m2, the total nitrogen content, total phosphorus content, total potassium content and chlorophyll a and b content were determined. The dose of sewage sludge significantly influenced N and K accumulation in the grasses. The maximum average nitrogen content (2.82 % of d.m.) was observed in grass from plots with the highest dose of sewage sludge, while the potassium from plots with sewage sludge dose 7.5 kg m–2. The accumulation of biomass of grasses in the study period was mainly differentiated by the sewage sludge dose and the sampling time. The average summary yield for the three months study (June, August and October) was from 229.83 to 430.70 g m–2. The highest results were obtained at a dose of sewage sludge 15.0 kg m–2. The sampling time and dose of sewage sludge significantly influenced chlorophyll a and b content. The average chlorophyll a content in June, August and October was: 0.60; 0.64 and 0.54 mg g–1 of f.m. respectively, while chlorophyll b: 1.00; 0.94; 0.39 mg g–1 of f.m. It was found a low average ratio of chlorophyll a to b in mixtures of grasses, which ranged from 0.54 in June to 1.82 in October to mixture Eco and 0.57 in June to 1.68 in October to mixture Roadside. Plants of the control plots showed higher average ratio of chlorophyll a to b in comparison with plants from plots with sewage sludge amendment.
Celem podjętych badań było określenie wpływu różnych dawek komunalnego osadu ściekowego na przyrost biomasy części nadziemnych, a także na zawartość makroskładników oraz chlorofilu w mieszankach traw gazonowych. Założono cztery doświadczenia na trawnikach wzdłuż głównych ciągów komunikacyjnych Białegostoku: przy ul. Popiełuszki, Hetmańskiej, Raginisa i Piastowskiej. Czynnikami w doświadczeniu były trzy dawki osadu ściekowego: 0 (kontrola), 7,5 i 15 kg m-2 oraz dwie mieszanki traw gazonowych: Eko i Roadside. Próbki części nadziemnych traw pobrano w trzech terminach: w czerwcu, sierpniu i październiku 2011 r., po czym oznaczono w nich: ilość biomasy części nadziemnych traw z 1 m2, ogólne formy azotu, fosforu i potasu oraz określono zawartość chlorofilu a i b. Osad ściekowy wpłynął istotnie na akumulację N i K w trawach. Maksymalną średnią zawartość azotu (2,82 % s.m.) zaobserwowano w trawach z poletek z największą dawką osadu, z kolei potasu - w trawach z poletek z dawką osadu wynoszącą 7,5 kg m-2. Gromadzenie biomasy traw w okresie badań było różnicowane głównie przez ilość dawek osadu ściekowego oraz termin pobierania próbek. Średni sumaryczny plon suchej masy roślin dla trzech miesięcy badań (czerwiec, sierpień i październik) wynosił od 229,83 do 430,70 g m-2. Najlepsze efekty uzyskano przy zastosowaniu dawki osadu ściekowego wynoszącego 15 kg m-2. Termin zbioru oraz dawka osadu wpłynęły istotnie na zawartość chlorofilu a i b w badanych trawach. Średnie zawartości chlorofilu a w czerwcu, sierpniu i październiku wynosiły odpowiednio: 0,60; 0,64 i 0,54 mg g-1 ś.m., z kolei chlorofilu b: 1,00; 0,94; 0,39 mg g-1 ś.m. Stwierdzono niski średni stosunek chlorofilu a do b w badanych mieszankach traw, który wynosił od 0,54 w czerwcu do 1,82 w październiku dla mieszanki Eko oraz od 0,57 w czerwcu do 1,68 w październiku dla mieszanki Roadside. Rośliny z poletek kontrolnych wykazywały wyższy średni stosunek chlorofilu a do b w porównaniu do roślin z poletek użyźnionych osadem.

The increase in the number of filamentous bacteria in activated sludge causes complications in the functioning of the sewage treatment plant. The paper presents the results of investigation of activated sludge coming from two sewage treatment plants - municipal and industrial. In both treatment plants the increase in the number of filamentous bacteria in winter has been noticed. In order to reduce the number of filamentous bacteria in activated sludge, the sludge samples were subjected to ultrasonic disintegration at a frequency of 40 kHz at 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 and 20 minutes. The use of low frequency ultrasounds has contributed to the defragmentation and destruction of most filamentous bacteria in activated sludge after 10 minutes of their operation. Necessary time to almost complete defragmentation of filamentous bacteria is more than 20 minutes.
Przyrost liczebności bakterii nitkowatych w osadzie czynnym powoduje komplikacje w funkcjonowaniu oczyszczalni ścieków. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań osadu czynnego pochodzącego z dwóch oczyszczalni ścieków - komunalnej i przemysłowej. W obu oczyszczalniach stwierdzono wzrost liczebności bakterii nitkowatych w okresie zimowym. W celu ograniczenia liczebności bakterii nitkowatych w osadzie czynnym próbki osadu poddano dezintegracji ultradźwiękami o częstotliwości 40 kHz w czasie 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 i 20 minut. Zastosowanie ultradźwięków o niskiej częstotliwości przyczyniło się do defragmentacji i zniszczenia większości obecnych w osadach bakterii nitkowatych po czasie 10 min. Do całkowitej defragmentacji bakterii nitkowatych niezbędny jest czas powyżej 20 min.

W celu zapewnienia zasobów żywności dla rosnącej populacji ludzkiej, powszechnie stosowane są środki ochrony roślin (ś.o.r.) zabezpieczające rośliny przed chorobami wirusowymi, bakteryjnymi, grzybowymi i szkodnikami oraz preparaty stymulujące ich wzrost i rozwój, zwane pestycydami. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie przeglądu literatury na temat sposobu działania ich substancji czynnych (s.cz.) oraz wpływu jaki wywierają na organizm człowieka na poziomie komórkowym. Obecnie powszechnie wykorzystywanym modelem badawczym są hodowle in vitro ludzkich linii komórkowych. Odpowiednio dobrane do eksperymentu linie komórkowe pozwalają na badanie absorpcji różnych substancji chemicznych, w tym pestycydów, poprzez nabłonek układu pokarmowego, oddechowego i skórę. Umożliwiają one ocenę wpływu pestycydów na podstawowe parametry stresu oksydacyjnego oraz funkcjonowanie układu hormonalnego na poziomie molekularnym.
In order to provide the food supply for an increasing human population products protecting plants against viral diseases, bacterial, fungal, pests and preparations stimulating their growth and development, known as pesticides, are commonly used. The aim of the paper is to show the way of their actions and the impact they have on the human body at the cellular level. Currently, in vitro cultures of human cell lines are a common model for research in this field. Properly chosen for the experiment cell lines allow for the study of the absorption of various chemicals, including pesticides through the epithelium of the digestive system, respiratory system and skin. They also enable the study of the effects of pesticides on the basic parameters of oxidative stress and the functioning of the endocrine system at the molecular level.

The aim of this study was to analyse the influence of municipal sewage sludge on selected microbiological parameters in the rhizosphere of lawn grass mixtures. Four experiments on the lawns along the main roads of Bialystok were founded. The factors in the experiment were three doses of sewage sludge (0 – control; 7.5 and 15 kg·m-2) and two grass mixtures (Eko and Roadside). The studied parameters were monitored twice during 2011 vegetation season by determining the total number of soil microorganisms, the total number of Gram-negative bacteria, the number of bacteria of Pseudomonas fluorescens species, the number of amylolytic and proteolytic bacteria. Sewage sludge amended to soil resulted in a change of physical-chemical properties of soil. The sewage sludge application to soil influenced significantly the number of proteolytic and Gram-negative bacteria.

The determination of the sludge fertilising influence for the growth and composition of the urban grasslands’ swards and heavy metals concentration in above-ground parts of the plants was the aim of the study. The study was conducted on four research plots along the main roads in Białystok. The plots were seeded with two mixtures of lawn grasses (Eko and Roadside) and three doses of sludge were applied: 0 (control), 7.5 and 15 kg/m2. The study also included the determination of concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn in soil and in the above-ground parts of lawn grasses and selected physical and chemical properties of soils fertilized with different doses of sludge. The dose of 7.5 kg/m2 increased the plant dry matter on average by 53%, the dose of 15 kg/m2 – on average by 90%. The largest effect of fertilization was found for lightest soil. Under these conditions, grass dry matter fertilized with 7.5 kg/m2 sludge was almost doubled, and fertilized with the dose of 15 kg/m2 was almost three times larger than in not fertilized areas. Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) was the dominant species in the sward. Perennial ryegrass constituted on average 71% of all grass species in the areas fertilized with sewage sludge in the dose of 7.5 kg/m2, while on the areas fertilized with 15 kg/m2 – about 81%, and on not fertilized ones – 50% on average. Bioconcentration factor in the study allowed for estimating the plants ability to collect heavy metals present in the soil. Based on these results, it was found that the rate of bioconcentration of Cd, Cr, Cu and Pb was the highest in August, which may indicate the ease of downloading these metals by plants, particularly high mobility of metals during this period, and lower in October and June.
Celem badań było określenie wpływu nawożenia komunalnym osadem ściekowym z Miejskiej Oczyszczalni Ścieków w Sokółce na wzrost i skład gatunkowy runi trawników przyulicznych oraz zawartość metali w częściach nadziemnych tych roślin. Badania przeprowadzono na czterech powierzchniach badawczych, wzdłuż głównych ciągów komunikacyjnych na terenie Białegostoku. Zastosowano dwie mieszanki gazonowych odmian traw (Eko i Roadside) oraz trzy dawki osadu ściekowego: 0 (kontrola), 7,5 i 15 kg/m2. Dawka 7,5 kg/m2 zwiększyła masę części nadziemnych średnio o 53%, a dawka 15 kg/m2 – średnio o 90%. Największy efekt nawożenia stwierdzono na glebie najlżejszej. W tych warunkach siedliskowych masa runi nawożonej dawką 15 kg/m2 osadu była prawie dwukrotnie, a dawką 7,5 kg/m2 prawie 58% większa niż na powierzchniach nienawożonych. Gatunkiem dominującym w runi badanych powierzchni była życica trwała (Lolium perenne L.). Stanowiła ona w masie runi na powierzchniach nawożonych dawką 7,5 kg/m2 średnio 71%, dawką 15 kg/m2 – średnio 81%, a na powierzchniach nienawożonych – średnio 50%. Wartość wskaźnika biokoncentracji Cd, Cr, Cu i Pb była największa w sierpniu, co może świadczyć o łatwości pobierania tych metali przez rośliny i szczególnie dużej ruchliwości metali w tym okresie, najmniejsza natomiast w październiku oraz czerwcu.

Celem pracy była ocena wpływu nawożenia różnymi dawkami osadu ściekowego na wzrost i bioróżnorodność roślinności rosnącej na 4 stanowiskach badawczych zlokalizowanych w pasach przyulicznych na terenie Białegostoku. Czynnikami w doświadczeniu były: dawki osadu ściekowego (0 - kontrola, 75 i 150 Mg/ha) oraz dwie mieszanki traw gazonowych (Eko i Roadside). Określono ilość suchej masy traw zebranej w okresie wegetacyjnym 2011 r., ponadto określono średnią wysokość traw oraz stopień pokrycia powierzchni. Na koniec okresu wegetacyjnego zbadano skład gatunkowy na poszczególnych obiektach badawczych. Nawożenie osadem ściekowym spowodowało ponad 2-krotny wzrost plonu biomasy traw w porównaniu do obiektów kontrolnych. Średnia wysokość traw różniła się w zależności od terminu pomiaru oraz od dawki osadu ściekowego. Najwyższe wartości uzyskano w trakcie pomiarów w lipcu i sierpniu dla obiektów z podwójną dawką osadów ściekowych (150 Mg/ha). Nawożenie osadem ściekowym spowodowało również zwiększenie procentowego pokrycia runi na poszczególnych obiektach badawczych.
The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the fertilization with different doses of sewage sludge on growth and biodiversity plants growing in traffic lanes in Bialystok. The factors in the experiment were: 2 doses of sewage sludge and control plots without biosolids and 2 grass mixtures (Eco and Roadside). The dry matter of grasses harvested during the growing season of 2011, the average height of grass and percentage of vegetation cover were determined. At the end of the vegetation period, investigated species composition on research plots. Fertilization with sewage sludge caused a more than twofold increase biomass yield of grasses as compared to the control objects. The average height of grasses differed depending on the sampling time and dose of sewage sludge. The highest values were obtained for measurements in July and August for objects with a double dose of sewage sludge (150 Mg/ha). Fertilization with sewage sludge also resulted in an increase in the percentage coverage of the sward at various research objects.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the accumulation of heavy metals in soil fertilized with municipal sewage sludge from the Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant in Sokolka. The study was conducted on four specially prepared test areas along main streets of Bialystok. The experimental plots were sown with two lawn grass mixtures: Eko and Roadside, and three doses of sewage sludge 0.0 (control), 7.5 kg/m2 and 15.0 kg/m2 were used. The study included the determination of dry matter and content of Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni and Cd in soil. The heavy metal content in soil was in the acceptable level for soils of urban areas defined in the regulation of the Ministry of the Environment on the standards of the quality of soil. The general content of Zn in soil was significantly correlated with the concentrations of Pb (r = 0.4), Cu (r = 0.9) Mn (r = 0.5) and Ni (r = 0.4), while the concentrations of Ni with the level of Cd and Cu (respectively, r = 0.4 and 0.5). There was also a correlation between the content of Cd and Ni indeed (r = 0.4), Cu and Pb (r = 0.6) and Cu and Mn (r = 0.7) at α = 0.05. The biomass of grass mixtures obtained depended on the applied sludge dose and the location. Moreover, biomass was correlated with the content and composition of soil organic carbon and granulometric composition, respectively (r = 0.6, and r = 0.5). Soil properties, arising from its particle size, were indeed correlated with the content of metals in the soil. The content of sand was negatively correlated with the concentrations of Zn (r = –0.8), Pb (r = –0.5), Cu (r = –0.9), Mn (r = –0.5) and Ni (r = –0.6), and the concentrations of silt and clay were positively correlated with the level of Zn, respectively, (r = 0.8 and r = 0.6), Cu (r = 0.9 and r = 0.7) and Ni (r = 0.6 and r = 0.7) at α = 0.05. The pH values measured in water and 1 M KCl for all soil samples ranged from 6.94 to 8.02, which means that in every measure point studied heavy metals concentrations in the soil are not a threat to the environment.
Celem badań była ocena gromadzenia się metali ciężkich w glebach nawożonych komunalnymi osadami ściekowymi z Miejskiej Oczyszczalni Ścieków w Sokółce. Badania przeprowadzono w Białymstoku na czterech specjalnie przygotowanych powierzchniach badawczych wzdłuż głównych ciągów komunikacyjnych. Na poletkach wysiano dwie mieszanki traw gazonowych: Eko i Roadside oraz zastosowano trzy dawki osadu ściekowego: 0 (kontrola), 7,5 kg/m2 i 15 kg/m2. Przeprowadzone badania obejmowały oznaczenia suchej masy oraz zawartości następujących metali ciężkich: Cd, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb oraz Zn w glebie. Analiza stężenia metali ciężkich w badanych glebach wykazała, że zawartość Cd, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb i Zn mieści się w wartościach stężeń dopuszczalnych dla gleb terenów miejskich określonych w rozporządzeniu Ministerstwa Środowiska w sprawie standardów jakości gleby oraz standardów jakości ziemi. Zawartość ogólna Zn w gruntach była istotnie skorelowana z zawartością Pb (r = 0.42), Cu (r = 0.92) Mn (r = 0.47) oraz Ni (r = 0.42), natomiast zawartość Ni z poziomem Cd i Cu (odpowiednio, r = 43 i r = 46). Stwierdzono również istotnie korelację między zawartością Cd i Ni (r = 0.43), Cu i Pb (r = 0.56) oraz Cu i Mn (r = 0.70) przy α = 0.05. Uzyskana biomasa mieszanek traw zależała od zastosowanej dawki osadu ściekowego oraz lokalizacji. Ponadto była ona skorelowana z zawartością węgla organicznego i składem granulometrycznym gleby, odpowiednio (r = 0.60 i r = 0,47). Właściwości gleby, wynikające z jej uziarnienia, były istotnie skorelowane z zawartością metali w glebie. Zawartość piasku była ujemnie skorelowana z zawartością Zn (r = –0.76), Pb (r = –0.47), Cu (r = –0.85) Mn (r = –0.48) oraz Ni (r = –0.61), a zawartość pyłu oraz iłu była dodatnio skorelowana odpowiednio, z poziomem Zn (r = 0.77 i r = 0.64), Cu (r = 85 i r = 73) oraz Ni (r = 56 i r = 66) przy α = 0.05. Wartości pH zmierzone w wodzie i w 1 M KCl dla wszystkich badanych próbek gleby mieściły się w granicach od pH 6.94 do pH 8.02, co oznacza, że w każdym z punktów pomiarowych odczyn gleby był obojętny, a badana gleba i zawarte w niej metale ciężkie nie stanowią większego zagrożenie dla środowiska.
