    Opis:
    The corporeal difference is the most fundamental in experiencing the otherness of the other. Confrontations with freak bodies in public spaces often leave us helpless, yet they call for strategies that would resolve the problem of their otherness. Modernity has formulated two basic rules governing the presence of heterotopic body: its medicalization and normativization. It would then seem that there is now a void where once was a freak show. Yet, the traces of freak shows’ spectacular logic can be traced in the television talk show formula. The comparison of these two is not aimed only at pointing at some superficial similarities, but also to more in-depth analogies concerning the logic of representation of corporeal otherness and lastly – to the metanarrative behind the show that justifies its obscenity. The paper concludes with a question of the possibility of adapting, yet, another strategy of making freak bodies publicly visible: freak show-based performances of disabled artists.

    W ramach analiz dzieciństwa oraz roli dziecka w sieci społecznych relacji zagadnienie dziecięcej partycypacji podnoszone jest coraz częściej jako warunek ugruntowania zainicjowanego przez tzw. new sociology of childhood (zob. np. James, Prout 1997) obrazu dziecka jako aktywnego i kompetentnego aktora społecznego. Rozwojowi dyskursu dziecięcego sprawstwa towarzyszy intensywny, dzięki wytworzonemu m.in. przez Konwencję o Prawach Dziecka, „klimatowi partycypacyjnemu”, rozwój inicjatyw, projektów, analiz i modeli dziecięcej partycypacji. Jednak wraz z rozbudowywaniem korpusu jej możliwych rozumień partycypacja dzieci wyłania się nie jako rozwiązanie, ale raczej jako problem do rozwiązania. Problematyzacja partycypacji wiąże się z koniecznością gruntownego przemyślenia jej celu oraz kontekstu społeczno-kulturowych wyobrażeń na temat wzajemnych relacji między dziećmi i dorosłymi, w jakim jest osadzona. Włączenie w dyskurs partycypacyjny pojęcia dziecięcego obywatelstwa ‒ rozumianego głównie jako prawo do uznania, szacunku i aktywnego udziału w życiu społecznym ‒ pozwala na wyprowadzenie pojęcie partycypacji z obszaru analiz dzieciństwa, ulokowanie go w ramach innych praw obywatelskich i analizowanie w szerszym planie relacji społecznych. Artykuł przybliża, jako preteksty do dalszej refleksji i eksploracji, trzy obszary myślenia o dziecięcym obywatelstwie, zaproponowane przez Johna Walla (2010, 2012), na podstawie analizy istniejących w literaturze ujęć, wykorzystujące pojęcia sprawstwa, współzależności i różnicy.

    Artykuł stanowi propozycję przyjrzenia się interpretacyjnemu potencjałowi pojęć ze słownika krytycznych studiów nad niepełnosprawnością (prosthetic power, visual activism) jako narzędzi analizy doświadczeń niepełnosprawnych dzieci prowadzonej w ramach nowych studiów nad dzieciństwem. W polu studiów nad niepełnosprawnością analizy dzieci i ich (niepełnosprawnego) dzieciństwa wciąż pozostają w mniejszości, podobnie jak w polu nowych studiów nad dzieciństwem niepełnosprawność wciąż nie zyskała takiej widoczności, jak płeć, klasa czy rasa. Wychodząc od opisu przykładów projektów dziecięcych protez 3D redefiniujących sztuczną kończynę odpowiednio jako pretekst do zabawy z innymi dziećmi, atrybut superbohatera i pole sprawstwa rozumianego jako współprojektowanie (siebie), poszukuję w nich nawiązań do wątków teoretycznych i interpretacyjnych obecnych w polu współczesnych, krytycznych studiów nad niepełnosprawnością, a następnie odnoszę je do perspektywy nowych studiów nad dzieciństwem, pokazując – na przykładzie disabled children’s childhood studies – jaka rama analizy niepełnosprawnych dzieci może powstać na bazie imperatywów krytycznych studiów nad niepełnosprawnością i nowych studiów nad dzieciństwem.
    The article aims at revealing the potential of critical disability studies’ concepts (prosthetic power, visual activism) as tools in the analysis of disabled children’s experiences within the new childhood studies paradigm. In disability studies, the childhoods of disabled children are still marginalized, and similarly—in childhood studies, there is still not enough space for analyzing disability as social marker (compared to gender, race, and class). I start with three examples of 3D children’s prosthetics projects that serve as starting points for redefining what an artificial limb can become—a platform of play shared with others, a superhero’s attribute, and a tool for agency in co-designing (oneself)—to find how they resonate with theoretical and interpretative endeavors of critical disability studies. I then attempt to set them against the premises of new childhood studies and see—taking as an example disabled children’s childhood studies—what can possibly emerge at the crossroads.

    The article offers a look at the issue of sensitivity in the context of media and media spectacles representing the suffering of others. It refers to Hannah Arendt’s concept of politics of pity, further developed in the context of media and their representations of reality by Luc Boltanski, pointing to dilemmas experienced by a spectator watching the suffering of others. The text discusses three regimes of representing the suffering of others, as described by Boltanski and Lilie Chouliaraki, i.e. denunciation, sentimentalism and sublimation. Adopting a different approach to the spectator’s situation and using different means of expression, they outline possible directions and at the same time signal specific dilemmas related to the spectator’s moral involvement in media spectacles of the suffering of others.

    Artykuł ma na celu przybliżenie ogólnych zasad prowadzenia partycypacyjnych badań w działaniu, przywołując ich dwutorową historię oraz wynikającą z niej filozofię i praktykę badawczą. Opisuję w nim specyfikę procesu badawczego oraz relacji między badaczem i uczestnikami badań. Jednocześnie moja prezentacja opiera się na założeniu o paradygmatycznej nieoczywistości PAR, która wikła je w szereg istotnych dylematów etycznych i metodologicznych. Związane są one przede wszystkim z przyjmowaniem przez badaczy różnych definicji, a co za tym idzie – celu i formy – partycypacji uczestników badań w działaniu. Znaczenie partycypacji w PAR i jej konsekwencje dla praktyki badawczej są przedmiotem dyskusji końcowej części artykułu, oferując czytelnikowi obok opisu metody, również pretekst do namysłu nad warunkami i konsekwencjami jej stosowania.
    The article aims to present the general principles of conducting participatory action research. It outlines the twofold history of PAR, resulting in two distinct philosophies and research practices. I discuss the specificity of PAR research process and the nature of relations between researcher and research participants. I also address the paradigmatic non-obviousness of PAR that leads to a series of significant methodological and ethical dilemmas. Most importantly, they stem from the plethora of names used to describe the method and – consequently – to define its purpose and form, especially when it comes to the role of participation. The importance of participation in PAR and its influence on the research practice are discussed in the final part of the article, offering – alongside description of the title method – a pretext for a further discussion on conditions and consequences of its implementation.

    This article considers the idea of crisis as one of the key tools for conceptualizing the ambivalent nature of childhood. Although crisis narratives have been an inseparable part of describing childhood, the concept of a crisis (an end, a death) of childhood itself may refer to such different phenomena as slave labor or lack of access to education on the one hand, and the consumerist lifestyle and media addiction on the other. The author focuses mainly on the idea of the disappearance of modern childhood derived from Postman’s concept. Childhood is viewed in connection with the concept of childhood’s toxicity, the dichotomy between over-controlling and ignoring childhood, and the idea of childhood being inappropriate. The article concludes that although some of the problems signaled as part of the crisis diagnosis have a negative impact on the development of young people and require solutions, the idea that childhood en bloc is in crisis is rather an expression of the collapse of the classic vision of childhood, and thus of the hierarchical, dichotomous relationship between childhood and adulthood that it is based upon. The relationship thus defined does not leave much conceptual space for recognizing the complex and ambivalent nature of childhood, or for describing the changes in childhood and adulthood and their mutual determinants.

    Celem artykułu była analiza pojęcia siostrzeństwa oraz rozumienia sojuszy w obliczu protestów kobiet po wyroku Trybunału Konstytucyjnego z 22 października 2020, zaostrzającego obowiązujące dotychczas w Polsce prawo aborcyjne. Na podstawie zrealizowanych przez zespół badań, autorki rekonstruują pojęcie siostrzeństwa odwołując się bezpośrednio do sposobów jego rozumienia przez badane kobiety popierające strajki i protesty dotyczące praw kobiet. Przytaczają również narracje badanych o sojuszach (rzeczywistych i wyobrażonych) między uczestniczkami i uczestnikami protestów. W znaczeniu poczucia więzi, bezpieczeństwa, solidarności oraz praktycznego wymiaru działania, pojęcie siostrzeństwa oraz sojuszy nierozerwalnie się łączy, tworząc swego rodzaju mozaikę znaczeń i praktyk. Przeprowadzone analizy mogą być podstawą do kolejnych dyskusji dotyczących podejmowanej w tekście problematyki.
    In October 2020 the ruling of Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal drastically limited the admissibility of abortion. Its announcement triggered an unprecedented wave of protests all over the country. The aim of the article is to analyze the concept of sisterhood and the imaginaries of various allyships forming in the context of women’s strikes. Based on the interviews conducted by their research team, the authors reconstruct the concept of sisterhood as it was understood by women supporting the protests against the restrictive law on abortion as well as sketch a map of allyships (both actualized and envisaged) forming between various social actors who took part in the protests. Seen as a feeling of bond, safety, solidarity and specific actions, the concepts of sisterhood and allyship are intrinsically connected, forming a specific mosaic of meanings and practices. The analyses presented in the articles lays foundations for the future research on the notion and lived experience of sisterhood in Polish public sphere.

    Despite conceptual challenges in defining informal education and learning, as well as methodological difficulties in identifying clear markers of its validity, the relevance of informal education and learning in the teaching-learning environment is emphasized in this paper. Informal education is presented here from an educational-organizational standpoint and assumed to play an essential role in the context of educational quality. The article provides an understanding of selected educational and organizational features of informal education as seen through the eyes of students from three universities in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Research results indicate the existence of a significant group of students who are unaware of the content of the university's mission and values, which may affect the university culture. A significant percentage of respondents at each university do not know where to look for support in conflicts and have not heard about equality and anti-discrimination procedures. The study's findings are part of the “Enhancing Quality Teaching of Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education for 21+” research project funded by the Erasmus+ KA220-HED Cooperation partnership in higher education.

    The text addresses the key competencies of the future relevant to the labour market from the perspective of students of the humanities and social sciences. It is based on the research carried out in three universities: in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia (a total of 603 students were surveyed) in 2022 as part of the Erasmus+ project grant KA220-HED. Research results indicate that students perceive critical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills as the most important for future work, given that creativity is ranked in the middle of the three universities by students. Students ranked low emotion management, time management skills and digital competencies in the labor market. In terms of gender in the 4Cs, there are differences – for men, critical thinking is more important than for women, while communication and cooperation are more important for women. There are no differences in assessing the importance of creativity – this reflects the stereotypical image of differences between occupations perceived as more male and female.
