This paper aims to examine the extent to which the sustainable development (SD) perspective is integrated into Polish major evaluation projects and to discern the challenges for incorporating the SD approach in evaluation research and practice in general. It will also try to identify the methodological challenges related to the SD evaluation procedures in Poland. The paper will overview these issues on the basis of a complete database of evaluation reports concerning EU structural funds implementation in Poland as well as selected evaluation reports and expert opinions commissioned by the Polish Ministry for Regional Development. The adoption of the SD perspective in Polish evaluation studies is still virtually inexistent, despite some positive trends in the field of building the evaluation culture, which are supported by the requirements imposed by the European Union.
Celem pracy jest określenie w jakim stopniu perspektywa rozwoju zrównoważonego jest obecna w głównych polskich projektach ewaluacyjnych, a także jakie problemy występują na drodze do szerszego wprowadzania rozwoju zrównoważonego w takich badaniach. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono kwestiom metodycznym. Podstawą do przeprowadzonej w pracy analizy jest pełna baza badań ewaluacyjnych odnoszących się do wykorzystywania w Polsce funduszy strukturalnych UE, a także wybrane raporty ewaluacyjne i opinie eksperckie przy-gotowane przez Ministerstwo Rozwoju Regionalnego. Przeprowadzona dyskusja wykazuje, że perspektywa rozwoju zrównoważonego w polskich badaniach ewaluacyjnych jest jeszcze słabo zarysowana, pomimo wspierania takich projektów przez UE.

We observe an increasing importance of certain product types in food marketing, including organic products. In order to analyse the marketing strategies of offering organic food, we conducted an Internet survey among 282 entities, which had obtained the status of organic food processor awarded by the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The effective response rate amounted to 7–10% depending on the question. According to our respondents, acquiring the status of organic food producer had a very positive (39%) or moderately positive (46%) impact on the development of their organization. Multiple parameters of their enterprises improved, including an increase in the number of customers, output and net profit as well as marketing outlays, which led to more intense and/or sophisticated marketing actions. 86% of the survey participants indicated a positive influence in the field of market image of their firm, almost ¾ confirmed entering new distribution channels, and 2/3 mentioned that this status enabled them to implement a policy of premium pricing. According to over half of the study subjects, there was an improvement in the image of their region of origin, which means a transfer of image between the firm and its area of origin. We asked the study participants to assess the importance of selected aspects of organic products. They considered typicity as the main characteristic, followed by vertical market channel integration (cooperation of the processor with its suppliers and distributors). The next position was taken by territoriality, i.e. the link with the area of origin. As far as the perceived authenticity of organic food is concerned, our respondents listed the following determinants as the most important: consumer knowledge, product image, label, and packaging. The representatives of organic food processors believe that their competitive advantage depends on the following factors to the largest extent: healthiness, brand, reputation, and taste. Additional determinants include safety concerns, ecological character of the product and quality guarantee confirmed by a sign or certificate (more than 70% of answers in the category ‘very important’). The altruistic motive of supporting local producers was less pronounced. The principal distribution channels of organic food include specialized shops and large distribution networks. Direct sales has a lower significance. We asked our respondents to assess the importance of selected barriers to the development of the organic food market in Poland. They indicated too high prices as the main constraint. This factor is dependent on the processor only to a certain extent, as it is also shaped by suppliers and distributors. We should also bear in mind that the Polish society is relatively less well off than in most EU member states. The second most important barrier was low visibility of organic food in points of sale (weak merchandising), followed by: low accessibility (shortage of specialised shops and poor availability in conventional food stores) as well as insufficient intensity of marketing activities. We observe a distinctive trend concerning the increasing role of export markets for Polish organic food. European Union markets are particularly attractive for Polish organic food producers. The internationalization process requires adopting more advanced marketing strategies.

The development of organic food market constitutes an element of a far more complex phenomenon of ecological consumption and reinforcement of a new paradigm called green marketing. Sustainable development strategies in the agri-food industry vary widely, ranging from mainstream agriculture becoming more ecological through the development of local production and consumption networks, organic farming to fair trade. We observe a dynamic growth in the value of organic food market in developed economies. From 2004 to 2012, the size of the European organic food market doubled. Further development of organic food market depends, inter alia, on the structure of distribution channels and pricing level, long-term trends in the national income growth and the development of ecological awareness of the society.
Rozwój rynku ekologicznych produktów żywnościowych stanowi element znacznie bardziej złożonego zjawiska ekologizacji konsumpcji i umacniania się nowego paradygmatu, zwanego zielonym marketingiem. Strategie zrównoważonego rozwoju w branży rolno-spożywczej mogą przybierać zróżnicowaną formę, począwszy od ekologizacji rolnictwa głównego nurtu poprzez rozwój sieci lokalnej produkcji i konsumpcji, rolnictwo ekologiczne, aż po uczciwy handel. Obserwujemy dynamiczny wzrost wartości rynku żywności ekologicznej w krajach wysoko rozwiniętych. W latach 2004-2012 wartość europejskiego rynku żywności ekologicznej się podwoiła. Dalszy rozwój rynku produktów ekologicznych zależy m.in. od struktury kanałów sprzedaży, wysokości cen, długofalowych trendów w zakresie wzrostu dochodów społeczeństwa i wzrostu świadomości ekologicznej.

Suche zapalenie spojówek i rogówki u zwierząt (KCS) powstaje na skutek zubożonej produkcji łez, co skutkuje ich niedoborem. Choroba objawia się wysuszeniem powierzchni oka. Oko jest zaczerwienione, zwierzę odczuwa świąd. Pojawiają się na powierzchni rogówki keratopatie. Schorzenie występuje u psów, kotów a nawet koni. W miarę trwania choroby, wokół oczu na powierzchni powiek, odkłada się ropna wydzielina. Istnieje wiele przyczyn powodujących taki stan. Głównie są to zaburzenia natury immunologicznej, wady wrodzone, urazy, reakcje polekowe, infekcje wirusowe oraz zaburzenia hormonalne. Rozpoznanie choroby odbywa się za pomocą testu łzowego Schirmera (STT). Leczenie polega na podawaniu preparatów nawilżających oko oraz leków stymulujących produkcję łez (cyclosporyna A, tacrolimus). W przypadku, gdy leczenie takie nie przynosi oczekiwanych rezultatów, można zastosować zabieg transpozycji przewodu ślinianki.
Keratoconjunctivitis sicca – KCS- “dry eye” is due to an aqueous tear deficiency. This results in persistent, mucopurulent conjunctivitis and corneal ulceration and scaring. KCS occurs in dogs, cats and horses. With time, some of the mucous can build up around the eye, becoming dry and crusty. As the conditions progresses, the cornea becomes invaded with blood vessels, scarred and pigmented. There are a number of possible causes i.e. autoimmune, congenital, trauma, drug reactions, viral infections and hormone imbalance. Dry eye is diagnosed with a Schirmer tear test. Therapy consists of artificial tear solutions, ointment and antibiotic combinations. Lacrimogenics such as topical cyclosporine A or tacrolimus may increase tear productions. In chronic KCS refractory to medical therapy, parotid duct transpostion is indicated.

The paper aims at identifying the arguments used by the French government, trade unions and agricultural policy experts in the ongoing debate on the future of the direct payments system in the European Union. The trend towards further decoupling of direct payments seems inevitable and generally beneficial, but France remains rather reluctant. It emphasizes the problems related to land abandoning in certain regions and lower production in certain branches. The paper presents recent results of simulations concerning various decoupling scenarios, elaborated by leading French research institutes in the field of agricultural economics. Furthermore, the issue of capping direct payments is discussed. Finally, the strategic guidelines of the President of the Republic of France regarding the future of the Common Agricultural Policy are quoted.

Opis:
The vitreous humor is the largest structure in the eye. It is a transparent, jellylike humor that fills the posterior cavity of the eye. As a results, the vitreous functions to transmit light, to maintain the shape of the eye, and to help maintain the normal position of the retina. Embriologically, the vitreous is described as three components: primary, secondary and tertiary vitreous. The vitreous is 98% water, collagen and hyaluronic acid comprise 1-2%. The vitreous proper has very few cells and most of them are hyalocytes. Variable persistence of the hyaloid occurs in association with many other type of malformations. Small remnants of the hyaloids vasculature are encountered behind the central posterior lens capsule. Frequently seen vitreous abnormalities include vitreous strands, asteroid hyalosis, hemorrhage and infiltration within inflammatory cells. Vitreous opacities tend to move slightly or oscillate within the gel vitreous after eye movements.

Artykuł przedstawia przypadek leczenia wrzodu rogówki u psa rasy bokser. Wrzód ten określany jest terminem "trudnogojący się" lub "indolent ulcer". Wrzody tego typu są predylekcyjne dla niektórych ras psów. Powstają często spontanicznie i niestety często mogą nawracać. istota choroby polega na oddzielaniu się nabłonka rogówki od jej istoty właściwej. Przyczyną tego może być wada hemidesmosomów, które odpowiadają za przyleganie nabłonka do stromy lub też procesy zwyrodnieniowe stromy rogówki. W obrazie klinicznym, po wybarwieniu rogówki za pomocą fluoresceiny, widoczne jest podciekanie barwnika pod warstwy rogówki. Istnieje kilka metod leczenia tego typu owrzodzenia. wymienić należy; keratotomię, powierzchowną keratektomię, chirurgiczne usunięcie martwego nabłonka rogówki. Leczeniu chirurgicznemu zawsze towarzyszy leczenie farmakologiczne. W naszym przypadku u psa zastosowaliśmy leczenie za pomocą keratotomii kratkowej skojarzonej z leczeniem farmakologicznym.
A case of indolent ulcer in a Boxer is described. An indolent ulcer is a ulcer which fails to heal in the expected time. These ulcers are often breed-related, develop spontaneously and may be considered to represent a primary corneal epithelial or superficial stroma dystrophy. It is caused by a failure of attachment between the basal epithelium to the underlying membrane. There are several methods that will facilitate healing; debridement, keratotomy, superficial keratectomy and medical treatment.

Opis:
Aqueous humor is produced by the ciliary body by active secretion and filtration of plasma. Most of the aqueous humor flows from the posterior chamber, through the pupil, to the anterior chamber, and exit at the iridocorneal angle into the intrascleral venous plexus. The balance between formation and drainage maintains intraocular pressure. In glaucoma the pressure in the eye increased. Prolonged or recurrent elevation of intraocular pressure lead to degeneration of the retina and optic nerve. The presence of a “red eye”, corneal edema, mydriasis, blepharospasm, blidness, and buphtalmos can be seen. Pupillary light reflex may be slow or absent. Glaucoma is divided into primary (including congenital) and secondary categories. The iridocorneal angle may be open, narrow or closed in either type. The primary glaucoma in cats is a heredietary condition. Secondary glaucoma is more commonly encountered than primary. Secondary glaucoma is most frequently due to severe anterior uveitis or iris melanoma. The elevation of intraocular pressure results from other disease processes within the eye. Feline aqueous humor misdirection syndrome is a unique form of glaucoma seen in cats. Aqueous humor is misdirected posteriorly into the vitreous instead of anteriorly in the anterior chamber. The objectives of therapy are to maintain vision and eliminate pain by increasing aqueous outflow, decreasing aqueous production and preventing or delaying glaucoma in the other eye. Aggressive medical (topical beta-blockers and carbonic anhydraze inhibitor) and possibly surgical therapy ( YAG laser, partial vitrectomy or lens removing) is indicated if the eye still has vision. If the eye is reversibly blind enucleation procedures should be performed.

The eyelids represent a structure composed of skin and cutaneous appendages, including hair follicles and glandular structures. The eyelids and ocular adnexa comprise the primary surface defence for the globe, specifically the cornea. There are three main forms of ciliary disorders: distichiasis, trichiasis and ectopic cilia. The abnormally placed hairs irritate the cornea. The affected eye will become red, inflamed and may develop a discharge. In severe cases, the cornea may became ulcerated. Both upper and lower lids may be involved. Some breads are affected more, suggesting that it is an inherited trait. Ciliary abnormalities are extremely rare in the cat. The diagnosis is made by direct visualization, although head loupe or slit-lamp magnification is helpful. The abnormal eyelashes are best removed through the use of surgery, kryotherapy or electroepilation. This report documents bilateral distichiasis in west highland white terrier. The distichia were removed using electroepilation technique.

Opis:
The lens originates from surface ectoderm covering the embryo’s head. The lens is composed of an acellular capsule, epithelial cells and fibers. The postnatal lens lacks vascularization and innervations. For nutrients and removal of metabolic waste products depends on the aqueous humor. The lens is comprised of 2/3 water and 1/3 protein. Two forms of proteins have been described: soluble (cristallin) and insoluble (albuminoid). Metabolism of glucose from aqueous humor provides the main source of energy for the lens, with anaerobic glycolysis pathways, being the most important. The basic function of the lens is to focus light onto the retina producing a clear, sharp image.

Opis:
Aqueous humor is produced by the ciliary body by active secretion and filtration of plasma. Most of the aqueous humor flows from the posterior chamber, through the pupil, to the anterior chamber, and goes out at the iridocorneal angle into the intrascleral venous plexus. The balance between formation and drainage maintains intraocular pressure. In glaucoma the pressure in the eye increased. Prolonged or recurrent elevation of intraocular pressure lead to degeneration of the retina and optic nerve. The presence of a “red eye”, corneal edema, mydriasis, blepharospasm, blidness, and buphtalmos can be seen. Pupillary light reflex may be slow or absent. Glaucoma is divided into primary (including congenital) and secondary categories. The iridocorneal angle may be open, narrow or closed in either type. Secondary glaucoma is most frequently due to severe anterior uveitis or iris melanoma. Aggressive medical and possibly surgical therapy is indicated for patients with glaucoma that continues to progress despite use of medications therapy. In some cases, trabeculectomy surgery may be recommended. This procedure we applied in the case of our patient.
