Opis:: Character segmentation (i.e., splitting the images of handwritten words into pieces corresponding to single letters) is one of the required steps in numerous off-line cursive handwritten word recognition solutions. It is also a very important step, because improperly extracted characters are usually impossible to recognize correctly with currently used methods. The most common method of character segmentation is initial oversegmentation – finding some set of potential splitting points in the graphical representation of the word and then attempting to eliminate the improper ones. This paper contains a list of popular approaches for generating potential splitting points and methods of verifying their correctness.

Opis:: In spite of an increased level of tolerance in the modern world, tattoos still have a negative connotation (pathological or criminal). The aim of the study was to recognize the public’s opinion concerning tattoos among medical staff. 120 adults took part in the research. The method used was an anonymous questionnaire. The majority of respondents (95%) think that having a tattoo does not affect the quality of work. However, 50,8% of respondents declared that tattoos should be hidden. To conclude, although tattoos are made in a sterile studio, some people perceive the medical staff’s tattooed body as a potential risk of infection. There is also a relationship between the age of the respondents and their opinion on banning tattoos.
Tatuaże nadal mają pejoratywne znaczenie (np. patologiczne, gangsterskie) pomimo wzrostu tolerancji społeczeństw nowoczesnych. Celem badań było zapoznanie się z opinią pacjentów podstawowej opieki zdrowotnej na temat występowania tatuaży u personelu medycznego. W badaniach realizowanych przy pomocy autorskiej ankiety wzięło udział 120 pełnoletnich pacjentów POZ. Zdecydowana większość pacjentów uważa, że posiadanie tatuaży nie wpływa na jakość pracy (95%) służby medycznej. 50,8% respondentów jest zdania, że podczas pełnienia obowiązków zawodowych tatuaże powinny być przykryte. Współcześnie tatuaże wykonywane są w warunkach sterylnych, pomimo to badani wyrażają różnego rodzaju obawy wobec wytatuowanego personelu. Istnieje związek pomiędzy wiekiem respondentów, a ich opinią na temat całkowitego zakazu tatuowania pracowników służby zdrowia.

Opis:: The aim of this paper was to evaluate the influence of anthropogenic pollution on the water quality of the Ciemięga River, which flows through the Jastków commune, located in the Lublin Province in the South-Eastern Poland. The analyses of the river water were conducted in the years 2019–2020. Each year, the samples for physicochemical analyses were collected seasonally (in February, May, August and November) from the seven selected Ciemięga River sampling points found in the following localities: Ożarów, Moszenki, Sieprawice, Jastków, Snopków and Jakubowice Konińskie. In addition, 3 series of microbiological analysis were conducted in 2020. Electrolytic conductivity, total phosphorus, nitrate-nitrogen and sulfates constituted the physicochemical indicators of poor water quality in the river. Their average values exceeded the standards for the 2nd class of water quality. High concentration of these indicators, especially of the total phosphorus, could have been related to the influx of domestic wastewater from agricultural holdings, wastewater flows from agricultural areas as well as soil erosion and leaching. The levels of E. coli bacteria and fecal coliform allocated the Ciemięga River waters to the 4th class of water quality and could result from domestic wastewater flow to the river. In order to improve the water quality of the Ciemięga River, it is necessary to reduce or eliminate point and non-point sources of pollution by means of streamlining of the agricultural areas fertilization, regulating the water and wastewater management, regulating of the waste management, as well as the appropriate spatial policy and landscaping of the water catchment areas.
