The paper reports the electron paramagnetic resonance investigation of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ doped [(CH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{2}$NH$\text{}_{2}$]$\text{}_{5}$Cd$\text{}_{3}$Cl$\text{}_{11}$ (DMACC) monocrystal. DMACC:Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ was studied in the temperature range (6÷293) K. We did not observe any anomalies of spin-Hamiltonian parameters of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion corresponding to the temperature anomalies observed in dielectric studies. The electron paramagnetic resonance anomaly recorded at about 40 K results from the subtle changes in bonds angles and Cu-Cl distances and suggests the smooth second order transition.

The K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ doped with Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion was studied in detail by X-band CW EPR. Two kinds of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ complexes (magnetically and structurally nonequivalent) denoted as Cu$\text{}^{2+}$(I) and Cu$\text{}^{2+}$(II) were found. Spin-Hamiltonian parameters, direction cosines, and coordination of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion were determined at room temperature. The superhyperfine structure was observed below 250 K as a result of interacting of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion with four equivalent protons (I=1/2). Temperature studies of K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ crystal show that interbond motion as a precursor of superprotonic phase transition occurs at above≈250 K.

Opis:
Opracowano warunki hydrolizy laktozy oraz wydajnej syntezy GOS w permeacie po ultrafiltracji mleka z dodatkiem preparatu b-galaktozydazy. Otrzymany koncentrat GOS zastosowano do produkcji jogurtu. Oceniono zależność stopnia hydrolizy laktozy oraz wydajności syntezy galaktooligosacharydów od temperatury i czasu reakcji, obecności lub braku białka w roztworach substratu oraz od wyjściowego stężenia laktozy w roztworach substratu. Korzystną wydajność syntezy galaktooligosacharydów otrzymano w procesie prowadzonym przez 8 h w odcieku nieodbiałczonym, zawierającym 30% laktozy, w temp. 5ºC. Otrzymany koncentrat galaktooligosacharydów zastosowano do uzupełnienia zawartości suchej masy w mleku przeznaczonym do produkcji jogurtów. Stwierdzono, że dodatek koncentratu galaktooligosacharydów wpłynął stymulująco na rozwój bakterii z rodzajów Lactobacillus bulgaricus i Streptococcus thermophilus w jogurcie.
In this paper there are investigated conditions of the lactose hydrolysis and effective synthesis of galactooligosaccharides in permeate after the completed process of milk ultrafiltration with a β -galactosidase preparation added. A galactooligosaccharide concentrate obtained was then used to produce yogurt. It was assessed what impact on the hydrolysis degree of lactose, as well as on the effectiveness of synthesis of galactooligosaccharides had the temperature § time of the reaction, further, the presence/absence of proteins in permeate solutions, and concentration levels of lactose in permeate at the beginning of the process. It was stated that if the process was conducted in an under-proteinized permeate with proteins containing 30% of lactose at 5ºC during a period of 8 hours, the effectiveness of galactooligosaccharides synthesis was satisfactory. The concentrate of galactooligosaccharides was used to enrich dry matter contained in milk destined for the further production of yogurts. It was stated that the addition of galactooligosaccharides stimulated the growth of bacteria belonging to the Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus species.

The pretransitional phenomena of superprotonic phase transition (T$\text{}_{sp}$=471 K) were studied in detail by X-band continuous wave EPR spectra of K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ crystal doped with VO$\text{}^{2+}$ ions. Three kinds of VO$\text{}^{2+}$ complexes (magnetically equivalent but structurally non-equivalent) denoted as VO$\text{}^{2+}$(I), VO$\text{}^{2+}$(II), and VO$\text{}^{2+}$(III) were found. "Smearing out" of the superhyperfine structure was observed as a result of interbond proton motion. VO$\text{}^{2+}$ impurity replaces K$\text{}^{+}$ ion and experiences the same average crystal field gradient at T$\text{}_{sp}$=471 K for I- and II-type complexes. The increase in interbond proton frequency hopping above 360 K is a reason of significant line broadening.

In this paper we present recent experimental results related to nonlinear crystal field fluctuations and current flow in K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ fast-proton conductor far below the transition temperature T$\text{}_{g}$. The results for crystalline and powdered samples are quantitatively explained in the framework of soliton model of charge transport.

Opis:
Campylobacter species are among the most frequently identified bacterial causes of human gastroenteritis. Because Campylobacter spp. harbored by cattle can be transmitted to humans, in this study we investigated antimicrobial resistance of thermophilic Campylobacter isolated from cows. Our study included 150 strains of Campylobacter (143 strains of C. jejuni and 7 strains of C. coli) isolated from cows in South-Western Poland. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) to ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, gentamicin and tetracycline were determined using the agar dilution methodology. All strains of C. coli were susceptible to all four drugs studied. The most frequently detected resistance of C. jejuni was to ciprofloxacin (26 strains 18.2%). Resistance to tetracycline was observed in 5 strains (3.5%). All strains of C. jejuni were susceptible to erythromycin and gentamicin.

To compare the genotypes of Campylobacter jejuni, isolates of cattle origin were collected from 9 Polish farms and genotyped by ERIC-PCR. We identified 28 genotypes among the 43 C. jejuni isolates, and demonstrated high genomic diversity. The highest level of diversity was observed in strains isolated from stanchion-barn animals in opposition to those from the loose-housing system.

Thin-film structures composed of two kinds of ferromagnetic material - metallic Fe and semiconducting (Ga,Mn)As - were investigated by means of SQUID magnetometry and ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Dependence of remnant magnetic moment on temperature showed unexpected anisotropic features when recorded along two orthogonal in-plane directions. For one of these orientations, the change in sign of the slope of m(T) curve at the Curie point of (Ga,Mn)As was observed, while for the other, an analogous m(T) curve retained monotonic character. Based on the comparison with ferromagnetic resonance data, the apparent non-monotonicity was attributed to the temperature-induced change of balance between the external magnetic field and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in the plane of Fe layer.

Opis:
For the first time a molecule of 2-(4-styrylphenyl)benzoxazole containing benzoxazole and stilbene groups is applied as a scintillator dopant acting as a wavelength shifter. In this article a light yield of the plastic scintillator, prepared from styrene doped with 2 wt% of 2,5-diphenylbenzoxazole and 0.03 wt% of 2-(4-styrylphenyl)benzoxazole, is determined to be as large as 60% ± 2% of the anthracene light output. There is a potential to improve this value in the future by the optimization of the additives concentrations.

Opis:
J-PET analysis framework is a flexible, lightweight, ROOT-based software package which provides the tools to develop reconstruction and calibration procedures for PET tomography. In this article we present the implementation of the full data-processing chain in the J-PET framework which is used for the data analysis of the J-PET tomography scanner. The framework incorporates automated handling of PET setup parameters' database as well as high level tools for building data reconstruction procedures. Each of these components is briefly discussed.

Opis:
In this article we present a novel method of hit time and hit position reconstruction in long scintillator detectors. We take advantage of the fact that for this kind of detectors amplitude and shape of registered signals depend strongly on the position where particle hits the detector. The reconstruction is based on determination of the degree of similarity between measured and averaged signals stored in a library for a set of well-defined positions along the scintillator. Preliminary results of validation of the introduced method with experimental data obtained by means of the double strip prototype of the J-PET detector are presented.

Animals are important reservoir of Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen causing serious infections in both humans and livestock. However, data on invasiveness of L. monocytogenes strains of animal origin is very scarce. Ability of 18 L. monocytogenes strains of animal origin to invade HT- 9 cells was investigated. Plaque forming assay was used to assess invasiveness and ability of the pathogen to spread in the cell line. Almost 40% of L. monocytogenes strains were weakly invasive. It was shown that strains from serogroup 4b exhibited the highest invasiveness, whereas serogroup 1/2b consisted of strains of invasiveness below 0.0001%. Analysis of translated inlA and inlB gene sequences revealed no premature stop codons. Lineage-specific mutations in low invasive strains were identified within inlA and inlB sequences. Our results demonstrate high incidence of low invasive animal L. Monocytogenes strains, which may be at least partly explained by unique point mutations in the InlA and InlB.

Opis:
Artykuł przybliża przykłady zabudowy Raciborza zrealizowane w latach 1918-1945. Architektura ta, nie tylko w Raciborzu, ale i niemal w każdym większym mieście dawnego obszaru Republiki Weimarskiej i III Rzeszy stanowi znaczący procent tkanki architektonicznej miasta. Zarówno budynki użyteczności publicznej, jak i zabudowa mieszkaniowa typowa, masowa, funkcjonalna, to architektura często niedostrzegana i niedoceniana.
The article shows examples of architecture which was built in 1918-1945 in Raciborz (Ratibor). This architecture is a mainly part of many cities from The Weimar Republic period. Administration buildings, churches, etc. and especially housing are mostly unseen, and takes no attention because of its popularity, good simple function, typical solutions, no sophisticated details. It’s really worth to describe it.
