Opis:
Double crystal and triple axis X-ray diffractometry was used to characterize the structural properties of Si/Si$\text{}_{1-x}$Ge$\text{}_{x}$ multiquantum well samples grown pseudomorphically on Si(001) substrates, as well as of short-period Si$\text{}_{9}$Ge$\text{}_{6}$ superlattices grown by molecular beam epitaxy on rather thick step-graded Si$\text{}_{1-x}$Ge$\text{}_{x}$ (0 < x < 0.4, 650 nm thick) buffers followed by 550 nm Si$\text{}_{0.6}$ Ge$\text{}_{0.4}$ layers. Reciprocal space maps around the (004) and (224) reciprocal lattice points yield direct information on the strain status of the layers in the heterostructure systems and in particular on the amount of strain relaxation.

Opis:
A survey will be given on recent advances in the investigation of semiconductor epilayers, heterostructures and superlattices using reciprocal space mapping techniques based on triple-axis diffractometry. It is shown that X-ray reciprocal space mapping yields quantitative information on strain, strain relaxation, as well as composition in such structures. These data are obtained from analyses of the isointensity contours of scattered X-ray intensity around reciprocal lattice points. Further analysis of the diffuse scattering yields also information on defect distribution in the epilayers.

Opis:
This paper presents the scheme of a software planing tool for single microcells of broadband radio access systems operating at millimeter waves, providing local multipoint distribution services (LMDS), particularly in urban or suburban areas. The aim of this planing tool is to provide operators with information, which supports the assessment of the profitability by calculating link budgets and the area coverage and by roughly estimating the maximum number of potential customers, i.e. the total number of households in a certain area, as well as the number of customers (households) which will actually be covered from a site. A household is here considered as a single apartment or flat, thus a building usually consists of several households. This novel household-estimation model is able to estimate the number of households based only on the 3D-data of buildings, without using residential data. Besides the optimization of line-of-sight (LOS) coverage, also the possibility is considered to enhance the coverage into shadowed areas by using optimized reflectors as passive repeaters up to distances of 1 km from the base station, depending on the system margin and the rain climate zone. All calculations are based on 3D-databases of both, buildings and vegetation.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono wykorzystanie wysokorozdzielczych danych obrazowych do celów wojskowych.
The article presents the application of very high resolution imagery data in military cartographic elaborations. Three basic areas of application photogrammetry and remote sensing data have been indicated: vector maps (georeferenced data bases), geospatial analysis and special elaborations - image maps. Basic vector data bases created by NATO using very high resolution imagery data are mainly Vmap bases (vector map bases) with detail levels corresponding to information resolution of particular scales of cartographic elaboration: LO -1:1 000 000, L1 - 1:250 000, L2 - 1:50 000 and L3 - 1:25 000. Military vector maps (Vmap) enable spatial analyses using topology of presented terrain objects and attributes assigned to them. The other data base elaborated as part of an international agreement (including Poland) which uses very high resolution satellite images is the basis created within the framework of the MGCP project (Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program), in which 32 countries currently participate. MGCP is a global basis. The idea of the project is to create data for regions of interest, areas of current and potential conflicts and threats. The characteristic feature of data in the MGCP project is the fact that they don't include a full range of objects required to create some kinds of maps, e.g. the topographic map. These data cannot be field verified and horizontal detail of object location should have an error of no more than 25 meters. Information concerning borders, their course and status can be treated differently in each country taking part in the program, so in order to avoid potential conflict of interest it has been decided not to include such data in MGCP. The article also presents special elaborations done during stability missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Image maps have presently become basic cartographic material in regions of conflict and hazards. They also constitute the basis for conducting further analyses. They are special maps (which thus do not undergo strict standard limitations), so the information range, scale and sheet size are conformed to particular user needs and the task performed. Application of very high resolution area imageries on stability missions in war zones is common practice. This is done because of the particularities of climatic, meteorological, logistical and organizational conditions as well as safety precautions. The article characterizes kinds of image data used by the army while showing the possibilities of creating cartographic elaborations and conducting geospatial analyses on the basis of this data. Through current image data it is possible to create quick cartographic elaborations mainly used in war zones, but which are more and more often made useful in elaborations intended for use during times of peace. Usage of satellite images has led to the emergence of a new type of product - image maps. Their elaboration standards have a loosely defined reference system and content range. Their applications are limited, e.g. they cannot be used for precise navigation. The kind of realized task and map addressee requirements are decisive here.

Millikelvin studies of in-plane magnetoconductance in short period Si/Ge:Sb superlattices have been carried out in order to examine the effect of anisotropy on quantum localization. The field-induced metal-to-insulator transition has been observed, indicating the existence of extended states. This suggests that despite anisotropy as large as D $\text{}_{∥}$/D$\text{}_{⊥}$ ≈ 10$\text{}^{3}$ the system behaves as 3D in respect of localization by disorder.

We evaluated exchange integrals which describe the spin dependent coupling between effective mass electrons and localized spins in the IV-VI semi-magnetic semiconductors taking into account contributions from the direct Coulomb exchange as well as from the hybridization between band states and magnetic shells. The obtained constants compare favorably with the experimental values for both the Mn- and the Eu-based compounds. We also discuss some peculiarities of IV-VI semimagnetic semiconductors, which may render the virtual-crystal approximation invalid.

Opis:
Hydrogel mineralization with calcium phosphate (CaP) and antibacterial activity are desirable for applications in bone regeneration. Mineralization with CaP can be induced using the enzyme alkaline phosphatase (ALP), responsible for CaP formation in bone tissue. Incorporation of polyphenols, plant-derived bactericidal molecules, was hypothesized to provide antibacterial activity and enhance ALP-induced mineralization. Three phenolic rich plant extracts from: (i) green tea, rich in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) (herafter referred to as EGCG-rich extract); (ii) pine bark and (iii) rosemary were added to gellan gum (GG) hydrogels and subsequently mineralized using ALP. The phenolic composition of the three extracts used were analyzed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MSn). EGCG-rich extract showed the highest content of phenolic compounds and promoted the highest CaP formation as corroborated by dry mass percentage meassurements and ICP-OES de-termination of mass of elemental Ca and P. All three extracts alone exhibited antibacterial activity in the following order EGCG-rich > PI > RO, respectively. However, extract-loaded and mineralized GG hydro-gels did not exhibit appreciable antibacterial activity by diffusion test. In conclusion, only the EGCG-rich extract promotes ALP-mediated mineralization.

We show that conducting edge channels are formed in free standing wires of PbSe/BaF$\text{}_{2}$ and PbTe/BaF$\text{}_{2}$ as temperature is lowered. The effect results from spatially inhomogeneous strain caused by a difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the epilayer and the substrate. The presence of the edge channels can explain anomalous mesoscopic effects observed previously in these wires.

Precise magnetoresistance measurements on microstructures of photolithographically patterned PbSe epilayers have been performed in the magnetic field range up to 17 Τ. Unusually large, reproducible magnetoconductance fluctuations have been observed. The fluctuation amplitude decreases exponentially with the magnetic field. A correlation magnetic field of the fluctuations corresponds to the Aharonov-Bohm effect which involves electron trajectories much smaller than the electron mean free path. This points strongly to the ballistic, not diffusive, origin of the observed phenomenon.

Opis:
This paper investigates a control structure to enhance the DC fault ride-through capability of a full-bridge modular multilevel converter (MMC) station, while ensuring a stable controlled operation as a STATCOM during DC faults without the need for fault isolation. Taking advantage of the switching states of a full-bridge submodule, a DC current controller is proposed, which provides the DC voltage reference for the modulation when a DC fault is detected. By changing the outer controllers strategy from DC voltage or active power control to converter energy control during a fault, the decoupling of the converter operation from the DC side dynamics is realized. In this paper, the focus is on the control methodology at all times of operation and the evaluation of the STATCOM control during a fault. To this end, extensive simulations were performed on a three-terminal high voltage direct current (HVDC) grid in radial configuration and a pole-to-pole DC fault case was investigated. The results showed that the AC voltage and current were controlled within limits at all times, while the full-bridge MMC was able to provide reactive power support to the AC grid. Moreover, using the proposed control methodology, the transients at the operation transition points between STATCOM and inverter/rectifier operation were minimized and the stations were able to safely ride through the fault.
