    The aim of the paper is to investigate a methodological problem facing the experimental research in philosophy. The difficulty concerns a commonly applied questionnaire method involving truth-value evaluation tasks: the data obtained by using such a method cannot provide conclusive evidence in developing a semantic theory of language due to the risk that the respondents focus on pragmatic properties of the statements under evaluation instead of the semantic ones. In particular, they may confuse truth-conditions of a statement with its implicatures. We propose a model which can help to establish - to a certain degree - whether the content assigned by respondents to a given statement is rather pragmatic or semantic (i.e. if it is an implicature or not). This model appeals to "practical" tests for implicatures, widely recognized in linguistic literature. We illustrate our proposal with some experimental research on the semantics of "or" in the Polish language ("lub") which aims to specify the status of the exclusive sense of this connective.

    W artykule omawiam trzy strategie argumentacyjne na rzecz tezy, że zdania niereistyczne są metaforyczne: argumentację epistemologiczną ze spostrzeżeniowego sensu spójki jest, argumentację semiotyczną z zasadniczego rozumienia tej spójki oraz argumentację semiotyczną opartą na kryteriach metaforyczności czasowników. Żadna z nich nie wydaje się skuteczna. Uznanie wszystkich zdań niereistycznych – i występującej w nich spójki – za metaforyczne zdaje się niemożliwe bez uprzedniego przyjęcia ontologii reistycznej.

    In the paper, I have presented the portrait of Jerzy Pelc as a teacher. He followed the footsteps of Kazimierz Twardowski and his direct disciples and tried to develop in his students skills of critical thinking and clear speaking – the basics of good work in philosophy. These skills are connected with methodological postulates of criticism and precision which were shared by all the members of the Lvov-Warsaw School. Jerzy Pelc treated these postulates also as didactic postulates arising out of the conceptions of logical culture and general logic. In my article, I have sketched the general picture of the relation between logic and didactics, I have presented the aforementioned postulates, the concepts of logical culture and general logic and its curriculum.
    Zajęcia prowadzone przez Profesora Pelca niewątpliwie wpisywały się w tak szeroko zarysowaną koncepcję logiki ogólnej. Starał się on być nauczycielem myślenia i dobrej roboty – nie tylko w filozofii, lecz w humanistyce i cel ten osiągał, nie tylko poprzez dobór tematów, wysokie wymagania, różnorodne sposoby sprawdzania wiedzy słuchaczy, lecz także – przez przykład. Wielu rzeczy nie przekazywał przez wykład czy lektury, lecz bezpośrednio kierując wysił- kami podopiecznych – zwłaszcza tymi związanymi z przygotowaniem obligatoryjnych prac rocznych. Pouczający był sam proces – konsultowanie kolejnych etapów prac nad esejem – ale także oczekiwania, np. że praca będzie opatrzona abstraktem i słowami kluczowymi w jednym z języków kongresowych. Profesor Pelc dał się poznać i pozostaje w pamięci jako wybitny naukowiec, twórca współczesnej semiotyki polskiej, organizator i dydaktyk. W tym artykule starałem się pokazać, że zwłaszcza ta ostatnia rola stawia go w jednym rzędzie z przedstawicielami SLW, gdyż wspólna im była troska o wykształcenie kultury logicznej słuchaczy, wierność postulatom jasności i krytycyzmu, preferencja dla logiki w szerokim sensie nieograniczającej się jedynie do logiki formalnej, lecz dziedziny prawdziwie interdyscyplinarnej, obejmującej m.in. elementy epistemologii, psychologii, prakseologii – i pełniącej rolę współczesnego trivium. Na koniec chciałbym wyrazić głębokie przekonanie, że koncepcja logiki ogólnej – szkolnej, pedagogicznej, pragmatycznej – zasługuje, by odkryć ją na nowo, zrekonstruować ją i spisać jej historię, a co ważniejsze – by twórczo ją rozwijać.

    Kazimierz Twardowski was renowned as an outstanding philosopher, teacher, and organizer of academic life. No less famous was his style of work, depicted in many recollections of his students. In the paper, I present three aspects of good mental work: a) stoic inspiration for Kazimierz Twardowski’s style of work, b) the place of the techniques of mental work in the program of pragmatic logic according to the views of Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz and Tadeusz Kotarbiński, and c) selected contemporary approaches consistent with the direction provided by the Lvov-Warsaw School. By exploring a new perspective in the study of good mental work by linking it to the ancient philosophy of life as well as to the most recent developments in the theory of good mental work, the paper reveals unexplored insights into the tradition of the Lvov-Warsaw School, demonstrating its significance, depth, and relevance to modern times.

    Opis:
    Chemical components in groundwater from mine drainage or used in geothermal installations are a potential source of valuable minerals. At the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute, a study was carried out to identify the content of elements in mine waters, wells exploiting natural gas and oil as well as geothermal and therapeutic waters in Poland. The aim of the research was to recognize the concentration of potentially useful minerals in groundwater and the possibility of their recovery. It was the first project that focused on the recovery of elements from groundwater on a national scale in Poland. For this purpose, 67 sites were selected, in which 75 water samples were taken and the content of65 chemical components was determined. Then, the amount of minerals that could be recovered from mine waters and geothermal brines was calculated based on the amount of water pumped in each facility. The calculations involved the approximate efficiency and working time of the recovery installation. As a result of this research, it was found that the mine waters and geothermal brines in Poland contain resources of valuable elements in very different amounts. In more than half of the examined sites, the estimated resources of minerals are present in amounts that are not prospective. However, in 29 sites, mine waters and geothermal brines contain elevated concentrations of several elements, including - B, Br, I, K, Li, Mg and Mn. If they were successfully recovered, they could represent a potential additional income for the mining and geothermal industries. Dębieńsko Desalination Plant of mine waters in Upper Silesia is the most promising potential source of recovery of minerals from mine waters, where the total resources of minerals to be recovered from concentrated brine have been estimated as the highest. Rudna Copper Mine in Lower Silesia is in second place, with one of the highest resources and the largest amount of minerals to be recovered from groundwater. Other sites are: the SOLINO Salt Mine, “Olza” mine water collector, mine waters pumped from abandoned coal mines in the Upper Silesia (in Zabrze, Siemianowice Śląskie, Czeladź, Gliwice), and plants producing geothermal energy in Stargard, Pyrzyce and Bańska. Total amount of mineral resources that can be recovered from waters pumped from the most promising sites is over72 000 tonnes annually. Taking into account both the ecological aspect and the potential economic benefits of recovering minerals from mine waters and geothermal brines, it is necessary to continue the studies on the recovery of minerals from highly mineralized waters in Poland.

    Artykuł jest głosem w dyskusji dotyczącej trudności z efektywną wizualizacją debat oraz statusu argumentacji w debatach konkursowych jako specyficznym gatunku mowy charakteryzującym się wysokim stopniem nasycenia zjawiskami argumentacyjnymi i okołoargumentacyjnymi. Do analizy argumentów wyrażonych w mowach składających się na tworzony korpus debat wykorzystano model Toulmina. Pozwoliło to przedstawić rolę przesłanek entymematycznych i koncepcję uwzględniającego je schematu anotacji.
    The article contributes to the ongoing discussion considering the difficulties of effectively visualizing debates and the argumentation status in competitive debates as a particular speech genre saturated with argumentative and quasi-argumentative phenomena. The Toulmin argument model was used to analyze arguments expressed in the speeches comprising the constructed corpus of competitive debates. It enabled us to present the role of enthymematic premises and the concept of an annotation scheme that incorporates them.
