Opis:: The article is the result of research conducted by the authors in the project The International Cooperation for Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Refugee in Turkey and Europe supported by Erasmus+ Programme and aimed at creating an innovative model of rehabilitation and integration of refuge women (implemented by the University of Gaziantep, Turkey) based on the experiences of partner countries. The aim of the article is to analyse the specificity of mechanisms and integration models used in work with refugee women. Issues such as migration, legal status of refugee women, EU integration policy or European support programmes for refugee in the context of gender were examined using mixed research methods. The analysis was conducted from a transdisciplinary perspective: political, legal, social, anthropological and gender perspective. Artykuł jest wynikiem badań prowadzonych przez autorki w projekcie The International Cooperation for Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Refugee in Turkey and Europe realizowanym w ramach programu Erasmus+ i mającym na celu stworzenie innowacyjnego modelu rehabilitacji i integracji uchodźczyń (wdrażanego przez Uniwersytet Gaziantep, Turcja) na podstawie doświadczeń krajów partnerskich. Celem artykułu jest analiza specyfiki mechanizmów i modeli integracji stosowanych w pracy z kobietami uchodźczyniami. Zawarte w artykule zagadnienia, takie jak: migracje, prawny status uchodźczyń, polityka integracyjna UE czy programy pomocowe w kontekście kwestii gender, zostały zbadane przy zastosowaniu mieszanych schematów badawczych. Analiza została przeprowadzona z perspektywy transdyscyplinarnej: w ujęciu politologicznym, prawnym, społecznym, antropologicznym i genderowym.

Opis:: This article concerns a fragment of research interests of the ethnographer from Lodz – professor Jaworska. In fact, Jaworska neither created the methodological theory of doing an ethnographical field research in a rural socio-cultural context nor the special theory connected with rural study, despite the fact that the most important area for her (in terms of science as well as her personal interests) were the Carpathian villages and the type of pastoral economy. The author of the text analyzes the letters of Jaworska written over 40 years, which reflect Jaworska’s attitude to her mountain field work carried out there as well as to the area itself.

Opis:: The article is devoted to the process of gendering memory as a counterpoint to the politicization of memory observed in the Polish context. The core problem of the paper is a description of a local case of this type of gender ‘memory practising’ in the area of the public urban sphere, specifically one created by the Łódź Women’s Heritage Trail Foundation (https://www.facebook.com/ŁódźkiSzlakKobiet) – a gender-profiled female grass-roots initiative that is concerned with the city’s past. The article consists of three main parts referring to, respectively, the functioning of memory in the urban public sphere as a form of dialogue (hemerneutic-interpretative anthropology with Jurgen Habermas’ and Seyla Benhabib’s theories is the theoretical foundation here), the process of gendering memory (appearing alongside the narrative phrase and feminist proposals for the interpretation of memory as a form of its pluralization), and the presentation of the activities within the Łódź Women’s HeritageTrail Foundation’s particular initiative – namely ‘Women Routes in Łódź’ – as a kind of case study for the city as a landscape of memory. The paper deals with the tension observed between the politics of memory and the political practice, and the alternative memories that arise from the idea of multiplicity and polyphony, including the voice of women. The authors raise the issue of the genderization of memory in the context of an inquiry into how the pluralism of collective memory and the diversification of the public sphere develops as a result of the discourses and operation of the alternative memory, including gender-focused memory.
Artykuł poświęcony jest procesowi zarządzania pamięcią w szczególnym aspekcie – ze względu na problematykę gender (nurt gendering memory), co zdaniem autorek tekstu jest kontrapunktem wobec tendencji upolitycznienia pamięci, które mają miejsce w Polsce. Autorki ilustrują tę problematykę lokalnym przypadkiem wiążącym kategorię gender z miejską sferą publiczną, a mianowicie odwołują się działań Fundacji Łódzki Szlaku Kobiet (https://www.facebook.com/ŁódźkiSzlakKobiet − jest to kobieca oddolna inicjatywa dotycząca zarazem płci społeczno-kulturowej, jak i przeszłości i pamięci miasta. Artykuł składa się z trzech głównych części odnoszących się do: 1. funkcjonowania pamięci w miejskiej sferze publicznej jako formy dialogu (antropologia hemerneutyczno-interpretacyjna w oparciu o teorie Jurgena Habermasa i Seyli Benhabiba), 2. procesu gendering memory (odzwierciedlającego pluralizację pamięci), 3. działań Fundacji Łódzki Szlak Kobiet (gdzie miasto jawi się jako zróżnicowany krajobraz pamięci). Artykuł dotyczy napięcia obserwowanego między polityką pamięci – praktyką polityczną – alternatywnymi pamięciami wynikającymi z idei wielości i polifonii, w tym obecności głosu kobiet. Autorki artykułu podnoszą kwestię genderyzacji pamięci w kontekście pytań, w jaki sposób rozwija się pluralizm pamięci zbiorowej i toczy się dywersyfikacja sfery publicznej jako rezultat oddziaływania dyskursów pamięci alternatywnej, w tym pamięci skoncentrowanej na płci.

Opis:: Artykuł przedstawia wnioski z badań na temat przestrzeni instytucji wsparcia. Autorki korzystają głównie z narzędzi antropologii kulturowej i proksemiki. Autorki bazują na trzech przykładach znanych im z prowadzonych przez nie projektów na temat sytuacji osób bez domu i zagrożonych innymi rodzajami wykluczenia społecznego: BSZMKI z Budapesztu, jednego z Centrów Pomocy krakowskiego Dzieła im. Św. O. Pio oraz gdańskiego Domu na Dolnych Młynach. Autorki pokazują, jak owe budynki są skonstruowane, w jaki sposób powstają tam miejsca o szczególnym charakterze, na ile idea wsparcia, której hołduje każda z instytucji, realizując określony program, cele i misje, przekłada się na stosunki przestrzenne i estetyczne oraz jaki rodzaj etyki wytwarza. Ukazują także możliwości podejścia antropologiczno-proksemicznego dla rozszyfrowania „ukrytego programu” wcielanego przez każdą instytucję, także w kontekście przestrzennym. Według autorek tego rodzaju analiza danych materialnych wraz z interpretacją zasad używania budynku i porządku przestrzennego, który jest przestrzegany wewnątrz instytucji, mogą wesprzeć refleksję nad przebiegiem wsparcia oferowanego w placówkach prowadzonych przez określone organizacje.
The article presents conclusions from research on the space of support institutions. The authors use mainly the tools of cultural anthropology and proxemics. The authors used three examples known to them from their projects on homeless people and those endangered by other types of social exclusion: BSZMKI from Budapest, one of the Krakow St. Padre Pio Aid Centers and Gdansk House, located in the Dolne Młyny area. The authors show how these buildings are constructed, how places are created there with a special character, to what extent the idea of support, which every institution pursues by implementing a specific program, goals and missions, translates into spatial and aesthetic relations and what kind of ethics it produces. They also show the possibilities of anthropological and proxemic approach to decipher the “hidden curriculum” embodied by each institution, also in a spatial context. According to the authors, this kind of analysis of material data along with the interpretation of the rules of using the building and spatial order, which is observed inside the institution, may support reflection on the course of support offered in institutions run by specific organizations.

Opis:: W artykule przybliżamy przypadek przestrzeni postindustrialnej Nowej Tkalni przy ul. Kilińskiego w Łodzi, będącej częścią dawnego imperium Karola Scheiblera, który posłuży nam do zaprezentowania napięć pomiędzy aktorami życia miejskiego i związanego z tym prawa do miasta, w tym także dziedzictwa. Jednocześnie wskażemy na istotności włączania różnorodnych aktorów w proces kształtowania narracji (również tych wpływających na rozszerzanie pola badawczego) o nim. W swoich rozważaniach wykorzystałyśmy przede wszystkim perspektywę spojrzenia na tę przestrzeń jako na przestrzeń codzienności – pracy, która została naznaczona wydarzeniem niecodziennym – wizytą Jana Pawła II w 1987 r. Zastanawiamy się więc nad praktykami i strategiami upamiętniającymi/zapominającymi w kontekście praktyk miejskich związanych z konstruowaniem dziedzictwa oraz prawa do niego.
The paper presents the case of post-industrial space of the New Weaving Mill in Kilińskiego Street in Łódź, which was a part of Karol Scheibler’s empire. We use it to illustrate the tensions between actors of the city life and the related right to the city including the right to heritage. At the same time, we indicate the significance of involving different actors in the process of creating narratives (also those contributing to the extension of the research field) of it. In our discussion, we mostly perceive this space as everyday space – space of work that was marked with an unusual event: the visit of John Paul II in 1987. Thus, we consider the practices and strategies for commemorating/forgetting in the context of urban practices connected with the construction of heritage and the right to it.

Opis:: This book deals with homelessness and the image of home as experienced and expressed by the men and women who are affected by the crisis of homelessness and live in specialized institutions in Łódź. Even though only two selected institutions are presented, the author draws from her long-standing research conducted in such places. Her research is based on the paradigm of anthropology/ethnography in action, whose branch is known as collaborative anthropology. In the book, the author highlights the methodological, theoretical and ethical issues which relate to the work of the action-research and collaboration paradigm, where the research areas are night shelters and dosshouses for homeless people. These above-mentioned sites are a kind of total institution. The author’s interest is focused on the hidden curriculum which drives the idea of aiding and living of those benefiting from the aid. The hidden curriculum underlies the spatial organization of the centres, their rhythm of life, including the hygiene-oriented approach and panoptism, the approach of staff to their “clients” and self-image of people residing there. The researcher proposes the concept of “home imitations” to describe the practices of living therein which are both adopted by and promoted to the residents. She also provides an explanation of the meaning and purpose of such behaviours. Furthermore, the book organizes the concepts associated with ideas and images of home and homelessness, which prevail in culture and in social sciences and humanities. The author presents her own experience in carrying out research in total institutions and, above all, she focuses on describing and interpreting 11 stories of people from homeless centres (six relations of women and five stories of men) who speak about the ups and downs of their lives and about how they have experienced homelessness. The researcher draws her attention on the stereotypically idealised image of home, which shows its real face when it is seen as a social construct, taking into account the gender perspective as well as other cultural and individual contexts. The author of this book is engaged in the activities of the group Łódzkie Partnerstwo Pomocy Osobom Wykluczonym i Bezdomnym, aimed at the homeless and socially-excluded people in Łódź and involved in the networking of institutions, associations and people dealing with homelessness. The group also runs its own campaigns and actions, including educational ones. For that reason Inga B. Kuźma’s book has an extra dimension: in addition to being a research paper, it can be treated as a report diagnosing the current state of affairs, and at the end contains the recommendations on changing the existing aid policy. These recommendations, which have been developed by the Łódź partnership, draw from the experience of other similar groups operating in Poland and abroad.
