Opis:
We describe the most complete and best−preserved materials assigned to Simocyon from Spain. Specimens come from the late Miocene (Vallesian) locality of Batallones−1, Province of Madrid and are assigned to Simocyon batalleri. Cranial, mandibular and dental anatomy of S. batalleri from Batallones−1 is described and compared with those of known species of Simocyon. We review the systematic status and the definition of the species of Simocyon and we analyse the morphological variation within Simocyon. Three species are recognized as valid. S. batalleri is known from several Vallesian localities (mainly MN 10) of Spain. S. diaphorus, from the early Vallesian of Germany (Mammal Zone MN 9), is the geologically oldest European species. The type species S. primigenius is Turolian in age and known from several localities of Europe, North America, and China. The species includes the junior synonyms S. zdanskyi and S. marshi. The status of Simocyon hungaricus is not resolved. Simocyon simpsoni is excluded here from Simocyon and reassigned to its original generic name Protursus. On the basis of the material described here, we propose a differential diagnosis for Simocyon batalleri. This species is morphologically intermediate between the more primitive S. diaphorus, which has a less reduced p3; and the more derived S. primigenius, characterized by a modified mandible (e.g., more vertical and more expanded coronoid process, longer angular process). The evolution of the genus Simocyon is characterized by a trend toward a more crushing adaptation involving at least a modification of the posterior part of the mandible. A reconstruction of the skull and life appearance of Simocyon is proposed.

Nowadays, it is a fact that Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have become the primary means of obtaining Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) information at sea. Most of the ships in the world are equipped with GNSS receivers. And currently these users take advantage of different augmentation systems such as DGNSS or SBAS/EGNOS, as they provide an adequate answer, especially in terms of accuracy and integrity. To take advantage of this improved accuracy, direct access to EGNOS in vessels can be achieved through EGNOS-enabled navigation receivers and EGNOS-enabled AIS transponders. Therefore, the natural question is: Are those GNSS receivers SBAS (EGNOS) enabled? In most cases they are; SBAS is being used. This paper provides an analysis of the number of onboard devices, mainly devoted to navigation purposes and AIS transponders, which are SBAS compatible.

Opis:
The maritime sector was one of the first communities that recognized and exploited the opportunities and advantages provided by Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). In fact, GNSS have become the primary means of obtaining Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) information at sea. Most of the ships in the world are equipped with GNSS receivers. GPS provides the fastest and most accurate method for mariners to navigate, measure speed, and determine location. However, its performance can be enhanced by taking advantage of augmentation systems such as differential GNSS or Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS/EGNOS), especially in terms of accuracy. Direct access to EGNOS in vessels can be achieved through EGNOS-enabled navigation receivers and EGNOS-enabled AIS transponders. This paper provides an analysis of the number of onboard devices, mainly devoted to navigation purposes, and AIS transponders which are SBAS compatible. In addition, other equipment using GNSS positioning in the maritime and inland waterways domains are also considered for the analysis of SBAS compatibility, including inland AIS, Portable Pilot Units (PPUs) and Dynamic Positioning (DP) equipment. A first survey was done in 2017 to have an overview of the percentage of SBAS enabled devices available in the maritime market [8]. Since then, the analysis has been yearly updated to understand the market evolution in terms of SBAS compatibility and its main results are summarised in this paper.

Opis:
The structure of the osmophores in Stanhopea graveolens and Cycnoches chlorochilon was studied by means of light microscopy (LM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The scent glands are located in the basal part of the labellum. The surface of the osmophores is wrinkled or rugose, which increases the area of fragrance emission. On the surface of the epidermis, remnants of secretion are noticeable in S. graveolens, but these are absent in C. chlorochilon. The osmophore tissue is composed of secretory epidermal cells and several layers of subepidermal parenchyma, and it is supplied by vascular bundles that run in ground parenchyma. The secretory cells have large nuclei, a dense cytoplasm with numerous ER profiles, lipid droplets, and plastids with a substantial amount of starch, which are probably involved in the synthesis of volatile substances. In the cell walls of the osmophore cells, numerous pits with plasmodesmata occur that are likely to take part in symplastic transport of the scent compounds. The structure of the osmophores is similar in both investigated species. Both S. graveolens and C. chlorochilon are pollinated by euglossine bees, and such similarity results from adaptation to effective scent emission and attraction of pollinators.

Opis:
A significant disadvantage of parts made of linear block polyurethanes under conditions of friction contact in the presence of an aqueous medium is the intensification of hydrolysis processes and decrease in volume strength. It was proposed to slow down the hydrolysis of polyurethanes in three ways: by directed changes in chemical structure, by electromagnetic radiation of different intensities and by creation of composite materials, based on the principle of additional intermolecular crosslinking at the manufacturing and hot processing stages. The conditions for the formation of a smooth wear-resistant surface that protects the material from rapid destruction are revealed.

Opis:
The use of SBAS corrections for navigation, in both coastal waters and inland waterways, has already brought the attention of many European authorities, which are interested in its potential to complement/replace their DGPS radio beacon networks. The European GNSS Agency (GSA) has an active long-term trajectory working to foster the EGNOS adoption in maritime through the launch of several actions whose results will pave the way for the provision of maritime EGNOS services. In this line, GSA awarded the consortium ALG-Indra, ESSP and Alberding with the Specific Contract GSA/OP/07/13/SC24 ‘Support to Maritime Service Providers for the transmission of EGNOS corrections via IALA beacons and AIS/VDES stations’. The main objective of this Specific Contract is to demonstrate the operational performance of the transmission of EGNOS corrections converted to Differential GPS corrections over the existing transmission infrastructure (AIS base stations/IALA beacons) in the Maritime and Inland Waterways (IWW) domains, while providing a detailed cost benefit analysis of the solutions proposed. This service may complement the current GNSS augmentation services exploiting synergies and benefiting from the current infrastructure and standards, facilitating the adoption of EGNOS by maritime and inland waterways authorities. Furthermore, the service has no impact at user level since the DGNSS corrections are transmitted over the existing infrastructure, in the same format and implementing the same integrity mechanisms required for traditional IALA beacons ([1]). This project will allow the maritime and IWW service providers to have a clear understanding about the technical, operational and economic feasibility of the transmission of EGNOS corrections via IALA beacons and AIS/VDES stations.

Opis:
The pancreatic cancer is a disorder with an exponentially increased incidence, especially over the last few years. Moreover, it is estimated that almost 95% of the patients with this disease are presenting to the hospital in the advanced and unresectable stages. Also, over the past few decades the development and advance of the surgical methods and techniques have improved, with the most of the operatory actions in the chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer being represented by the whipple duodeno-pancreatectomy, which in fact represents the standard resection for tumors of the duodenum, as well as the hepatopancreatic ampulla of Vater, distal choledocus and the head of the pancreas. Moreover, it is important to mention that in these cases, after an extended resection and reconstruction of the upper gastrointestinal tract, the digestive physiology will be disrupted. In addition, previous studies have shown that patients can maintain a body mass index after surgery but often this will be lower than its preoperative value. Thus, considering the aforementioned aspects, in the present mini-review we were mainly interested in presenting also the relevance of the micronutrients such as iron, selenium, vitamin D and E, zinc or copper in this complicated area of research, as well as aspects regarding the correlations between immune function and micronutrients or the pancreatic enzyme supplementation.
