    The purpose of the article is to contribute to the discussion about the relevance of existential issues in contemporary education. The analyses presented in the paper are related to the problems of self-reflection, self-questioning and the process of spiritual and moral development of human beings. Firstly, the author begins by depicting the meaning of human existence in the light of philosophy. What is at issue here is a question of being oneself, recognizing personal truth and finding one’s own voice as opposed to being inauthentic or fleeing from oneself. Special attention is paid to the language as an essential, constitutive element of being. Secondly, the article attempts to consider some educational implications resulting from the deep ontological relationship between human beings and language. Describing them, the author indicates that ignoring vital questions in language education contributes to spiritual vacuity in the lives of young people and reduces educational thinking merely to instrumental, pragmatic problems concerned with qualification and transfer of communicative skills.

    Although there is a relatively long tradition of research into the mechanisms underlying conflicts (both internal and interpersonal ones), the existential perspective of conflict has not as yet been the subject of extensive psychological studies. From the standpoint of existential psychology, conflict is primarily an expression of an individual’s confrontation with objective existential facts: freedom and the responsibility for oneself that freedom entails, the finitude of human life, existential loneliness and fate in its broadest sense. Although conflict, so defined, is essentially an immanent feature of human existence, it becomes a problem when a strong sense of helplessness and anxiety starts to accompany it, as a person loses their purpose in life and fails to realize their personal values. This research aimed to answer the question of whether there is a relationship between an individual’s behavior in response to (internal and interpersonal) conflict and his/her sense of meaning in life and preferred values. The study covered a group of 153 students aged from 19 to 26 years. Purpose-of-life was measured using the test developed by Crumbaugh and Maholick (1964). The Schwartz Portrait Values questionnaire was used to assess the respondents’ preferences for fundamental values. The behavior of the subjects in response to conflict was examined using linguistic (frequency) analysis of the verbs used in their open-ended answers.

    The article is devoted to the problem of human relationships with special attention paid to the experience of helplessness, powerlessness and social anxiety in contacts with other people. The problem is described from the existential-psychological and social-cultural perspective. At first the author presents the essence and reasons for feeling helpless and anxious in the psychological context. Then various aspects of human alienation in contemporary culture are enumerated. In the second part of the article the author discusses the category of usefulness and utility in thinking about oneself and other people, the alienation of language and loss of the so-called “individual initiative”. Theoretical considerations have been supplemented with the results of the author’s own research. At the end of the article the author indicates the role of education in preventing the development of helplessness among young people.

    The purpose of the article is to outline the problem of widely understood conflicts in human life from the perspective of existential philosophy. Without questioning the importance of psychological research on complex mechanisms underlying conflicts, the author points to the issue of the problematic nature of human existence, the category of freedom, the problem of the authenticity of being and the sense of meaning. In the second part of the paper, the essence of educational process in the context of experiencing difficulties and conflicting situations by human beings has been introduced. The necessity of taking into account the problem of being oneself and constituting a human being in relation to himself, the world and others has been presented.

    The paper is an appendix to gender studies and foreign language teaching. The author presents the interrelationships between gender differences and interaction in language classroom, motivation, achievements and learning strategies of boys and girls. She shows the complexity of these problems when she describes biological and social factors influencing the female and male behaviour and development of the pupils‟ cognitive skills. The assumption that underlies the basis of the text says, that Gender Studies should be considered in various fields of language education.

    W artykule przedstawiona została problematyka konfliktów w rodzinie ze szczególnymuwzględnieniem konfliktów rozwodowych. Zwrócono uwagę na sposobyrozwiązywania sporów i mechanizmy leżące u ich podstaw. Omówiono różne typykonfliktów oraz przeanalizowano źródła ich powstawania.W dalszej części artykułu przedstawiono istotę mediacji jako sposobu rozwiązywaniasporów pomiędzy stronami przy udziale „strony trzeciej” czyli mediatora.Zwrócono szczególną uwagę na mediacje w konfliktach rozwodowych stanowiącychalternatywę do postępowania sądowego. U podstaw podejmowanych rozważańdotyczących mediacji przyjęto założenie, że proces mediacji umożliwiaosiągnięcie porozumienia satysfakcjonującego dla obu stron, ułatwia komunikacjęmiędzy małżonkami, przekierowuje uwagę na potrzeby dziecka i polepsza współpracęna płaszczyźnie rodzicielskiej. Szczególnymi wyróżnikami mediacji są neutralność,bezstronność mediatora oraz poufność.

    In the article there has been introduced the concept concerning family conflicts and troubles experienced by people in their families. There have also been introduced conflict resolutions strategies and abilities used by family members in conflict situations.The author points out in particular to types of family conflicts and reasons for family conflict. One of several approaches to conflict resolution is mediation. It is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties that uses a “third party” intermediary to help the disputing people resolve their conflict. The author pays special attention to divorce mediation that is an alternative to traditional divorce litigation. The main idea of this article is the assumption that mediation helps the couple learn to communicate again for the sake of the children and to work together as parents. There have been also remarkably emphasized flexibility and confidentiality of mediation.
