Opis:
The problem considered in this paper is of the cracked thin-walled beams. They are subjected to combined loading by the bending moment and the axial force. The profiles with the I (H), T and U cross-sections were analyzed. The analytical method is based on application of classical expressions for Mode I SIF of such beams with taking into account the cross sections' warping. The classical expressions for SIF for the thin plate are adapted by including the reduced forces and moments characteristic for the thin-walled beams. The numerical simulation for calculating the stress intensity factor of the cracked thin-walled beams consisted of application of the Finite Element Method (FEM) by use of the J-EDI method. It is found that the Mode I SIF of cracked thin-walled beams increases with crack length increase. The conducted comparison of results obtained by application of the two methods confirms the validity of the proposed analytical expressions only for the small crack lengths.

Opis:
It is well known that endothelial shear stress affects occurrence of plaque in arteries. Lack of a method for measuring this physical quantity limits scientific understanding of this phenomenon. Application of numerical methods in this area has considerable amount of experimental verifications in terms of quantities that can be measured (velocity, pressure). On that basis we can rely on the results of endothelial shear stress calculations. The literature mainly documents the application of numerical methods to average geometries. However, arterial bifurcations are patient-specific. Moreover, occurrence of disease significantly complicates the geometry of the arteries and bifurcations. A multiblock concept provides the necessary geometrical flexibility and computational efficiency to generate patientspecific finite element models. For a particular class of problems different topologies of blocks are possible. This paper provides an overview of the possible block topologies required in finite element modeling using multiblock approach. In order to obtain accurate results of endothelial shear stress, two most general topologies are examined by numerical calculations. Favorable topology of the blocks is implemented in in-house software stl2fem.

Nowadays, business environment is faster than ever in the field of new technologies. The firms are forced to find new ways to compete and survive through innovations. To meet these demands, different tools and techniques are used in order to measure capability of firms to innovate. One of them is the Value Innovation Potential Assessment Tool, which helps to identify appropriate opportunities for firms to use it to assess their effectiveness of innovation work. The main goal of this paper was to investigate the Value Innovation Potential under transitional conditions in some firms in South-Eastern Serbia. The research was done using a questionnaire taken from literature, which was applied to one hundred employees in mentioned Serbian firms. The data were statistically analysed, explained and main conclusions were obtained. Proposed factor model of Value Innovation Potential was tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on investigated population.

Electrical, optical or catalytic properties of ceria can be tuned via doping by rare earth elements. The innate properties of ceria-based materials can be further amplified by using nanostructured ceria. In this study, Sm-doped ceria (SDC) coatings were grown on the FTO glass substrate by means of cathodic deposition. Films were obtained from mixed $Sm^{3+}//Ce^{3+}$ aqueous nitrate solutions, applying -0.8V/(SCE) potential for 1 h. Selected conditions gave rise to adherent, homogeneous and well-covering nanostructured SDC thin films. EDX analysis showed that 0.8 and 1.5 mol% $Sm^{3+}$ led to 3.4 and 6.3 at.% Sm in the SDC films. XRD and Raman analysis confirmed the formation of cubic fluorite-type $CeO_{2}$. However, Sm-doping decreased the crystallite size of nanostructured ceria. The effect of annealing on SDC film was also studied. An improvement in crystallite quality was found with increasing temperature. Optical absorption properties were studied and the band gap value $(E_g)$ of 3.07 eV was determined for pure ceria. Sm-doped ceria exhibited a red shifting. The $E_g$ values were 2.97 and 2.81 eV, in due order.

This article presents the results of the statistical modeling of copper losses in the silicate slag of the sulfide concentrates smelting process. The aim of this study was to define the correlation dependence of the degree of copper losses in the silicate slag on the following parameters of technological processes: SiO2, FeO, Fe3O4, CaO and Al2O3 content in the slag and copper content in the matte. Multiple linear regression analysis (MLRA), artificial neural networks (ANNs) and adaptive network based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) were used as tools for mathematical analysis of the indicated problem. The best correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.719) of the final model was obtained using the ANFIS modeling approach.

Opis:
The Bi-Cu-Ni ternary system belongs to the group of potential Cu-Ni-based advanced lead-free solder materials for high temperature application. In this study microstructure investigation of the slow-cooled Bi-Cu-Ni samples was done using SEM-EDS analysis. The samples compositions were chosen along three cross-sections with molar ratio Cu:Ni=1:3, 1:1 and 3:1. The experimentally obtained phase structure was compared with the results of thermodynamic calculation according to CALPHAD method. Also, new results regarding thermal and electrical properties investigations of these alloys are presented in this paper, based on DSC and electroconductivity measurements.
Trójskładnikowe stopy Bi-Cu-Ni należą do grupy potencjalnych zaawansowanych bezołowiowych materiałów do lutowania w wysokiej temperaturze opartych na stopach Cu-Ni. Analizę mikrostruktury wolno schłodzonych próbek Bi-Cu-Ni wykonano za pomocą technik SEM-EDS. Do badań wybrano próbki charakteryzujące się stałym molowym stosunkiem Cu:Ni=1:3, 1:1 i 3:1. Doświadczalnie otrzymaną strukturę faz porównano z wynikami obliczeń termodynamicznych metodą CALPHAD. Ponadto, nowe wyniki dotyczące badań właściwości cieplnych i elektrycznych stopów zostały przedstawione w tym artykule, na podstawie pomiarów DSC i przewodności elektrycznej.

There is growing interest in the activity of sulfur-containing compounds on redox balance in physiological and pathological conditions, considering that some of these compounds have not only antioxidative but also pro-oxidative activities. Aim of this study was to assess possible differences in the effects of various sulfur-containing compounds on redox balance of cardiovascular system in its physiological state and in the early onset of hyperhomocysteinemia. This experimental study divided Wistar albino rats into two groups: saline-treated (control) and DL-homocysteine-treated (experimental group). Rats from experimental group were subjected to subchronic subcutaneous administration of DL-homocysteine at dose of 0.45 μmol/g body weight twice a day for 2 weeks. At the end of this period, rats were sacrificed, and blood samples were collected to be analysed for homocysteine concentration and systemic oxidative stress. Isolated rat hearts were excised and attached to the Langendorff apparatus. To assess the effects of acute administration of L-methionine, L-cysteine, N-acetylcysteine, and sodium hydrogen sulfide, the hearts were perfused individually with each of the mentioned substances at same single dose of 0.5 mmol/l for 5 min. In collected samples of coronary venous effluent oxidative stress biomarkers were determined using spectrophotometry. Total homocysteine level was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group, and the effects of applied sulfur-containing compounds were significantly different in experimental and control groups. DL-homocysteine induced considerable changes in functioning of cardiovascular system even before an increase in plasma homocysteine values, and action of sulfur-containing compounds varied depending on the presence of homocysteine.

In the present work, fruits from two plant species, Rosa canina L. and Sorbus aucuparia L., popular in traditional folk medicine in Serbia, were studied. The aim was to examine and compare the efficiency of the ultrasonic extraction with different solvents regarding physicochemical properties, polyphenolic profile of extracts, as well as their tyrosinase inhibitory and antioxidant activity. The polyphenols evaluation indicated that water was the best solvent for a thorough extraction of bioactive compounds from the R. canina fruits, while propylene glycol-water (45:55, v/v) was the most efficient regarding S. aucuparia fruits, followed by ethanol-water (7:3, v/v). Only flavonoids were more abundant in S. aucuparia fruit extracts. R. canina water extracts showed a higher antioxidant activity, using several in vitro tests with different working principles. However, S. aucuparia ultrasonic extracts with propylene glycol-water (45:55, v/v) demonstrated a higher potential concerning tyrosinase inhibitory and chelating activity. Therefore, these ultrasonic extracts, being great sources of natural anti-tyrosinase inhibitors and antioxidants, can be considered as promising candidates suitable for pharmaceutical application, as great sources of natural anti-tyrosinase inhibitors and antioxidants.
