Opis:
In this paper we propose a method for object description based on two wellknown clustering algorithms (k-means and mean shift) and the SURF method for keypoints detection. We also perform a comparison of these clustering methods in object description area. Both of these algorithms require one input parameter; k-means (k, number of objects) and mean shift (h, window). Our approach is suitable for images with a non-homogeneous background thus, the algorithm can be used not only on trivial images. In the future we will try to remove non-important keypoints detected by the SURF algorithm. Our method is a part of a larger CBIR system and it is used as a preprocessing stage.

Metaphisical theories of individual object as models of visual objectsIn the article the three main metaphysical theories of individual objects (the bare substratum theory, the bundle theory and the substratum theory) are interpreted as the models of visual objects. These models are tested according to the empirical data. The first part of the article discusses methodological issues concerning the procedure in which thesis of the metaphysical theories gain the empirical content. In the second part the models based on the metaphysical theories are tested according to the selected psychological data connected with detection, categorization and reidentification of visual objects. As the result of the testing the hypothesis is stated, saying that the models based on the different metaphysical theories are the proper models of the visual objects present on the different stages of the perceptual process.

There is no doubt that Translation Studies have firmly established themselves as an independent scientific field. However, there are thematic overlaps in some areas concerning other disciplines. This work investigates the relations between interlinguistic translation and intersemiotic translation from the point of view of translation studies. First of all, a set of criteria for the identification of proper translation is offered and, in a second step, we examine how theoretical elements like communicative equivalence and communicative value can be transferred to a linguistic discourse by means of the intersemiotic translation modality known as audio description (AD)

Opis:
The subject of the article is the ontological status of Jerzy Grzegorzewski’s scenography objects, as objets trouvés that are tools in the director’s hands. The analysis follows the change that takes place when the objects become part of visual archives, outside the context of a performance. The discussed archives, Inwentaryzacja and Archiwum JG, remove the objects’ materiality, instead offering a photographic representation. In the first case, the objects are photographed separately and tagged. In the other, hipertextual archive, the scenography objects become elements of a dynamic system of references, in which photography coexists with a description and historians’ narrative. The archives, therefore, preserve the traces of the theatre, but at the same time they change the meaning of those traces, transforming elements of what was once whole (theatrical scenography) into autonomous works of art.

Visual servoing define a new methodology for vision based control in robotics. Vision based action involve number of actions that move a robot in response of results of camera analysis. This process is important to operate and help robot to achieve a specific goal. The main purpose of visual servoing consists of considering a vision system by specific sensor dedicated to involve control servo loop and task. In this article, three visual control scheme: Image Based Visual Servoing (IBVS), Position Based Visual Servoing (PBVS) and Hybrid Based Visual Servoing (HBVS) are illustrated. The different terminologies are represented through effective workflow of robot vision. IBVS method concentrate on the image features that are immediately available in the image. This experiment is performed by estimating distance between camera and object. PBVS consist of moving object 3-D parameters to estimate measurement. This paper showcases PBVS using kuka robot model. HBVS uses the 2D and 3D servoing by combining visual sensors also it overcomes challenges of previous two methods. This paper represents HBVS method using IPR communication robot model.

Opis:
The article investigates the concept of object used in the theories of visual binding. Two different theories of visual binding are considered: (1) the classical, psychological Feature Integration Theory (FIT) and (2) the model of neural synchronization formulated by Schillen and König. The description of the conceptual structure of those theories is first presented and then followed with a list of postulates which have to be satisfied by a concept of object coherent with the considered theories. Subsequently, the characteristics of the notions of object which satisfy the postulates formulated for each theory are proposed by using notions developed in the field of analytic metaphysics. In conclusion, it is stated that theoretical differences between psychological FIT and the neural model lead to significant differences in the used notion of object. However, the extent of that difference depends on the interpretation of the concept of representation which is ambiguous within the framework of the considered neural model. Despite the differences, it appears that the concepts coherent with the abovementioned postulates bear some resemblance to the notion of object proposed by the metaphysical substratum theories.

Opis:
In the ever increasing number of robotic system applications in the industry, the robust and fast visual recognition and pose estimation of workpieces are of utmost importance. One of the ubiquitous tasks in industrial settings is the pick-and-place task where the object recognition is often important. In this paper, we present a new implementation of a work-piece sorting system using a template matching method for recognizing and estimating the position of planar workpieces with sparse visual features. The proposed framework is able to distinguish between the types of objects presented by the user and control a serial manipulator equipped with parallel finger gripper to grasp and sort them automatically. The system is furthermore enhanced with a feature that optimizes the visual processing time by automatically adjusting the template scales. We test the proposed system in a real-world setup equipped with a UR5 manipulator and provide experimental results documenting the performance of our approach.

In this article a biologically-inspired algorithm for object recognition is presented. The approach is based on a hierarchical HMAX cortex model that was initially proposed by Riesenhuber and Poggio [12] and later extended by Serre et al [13]. The results show that despite the modification that were undertaken to simplify the HMAX model (in order to make it feasible for a real-time solutions) it is possible to achieve high effectiveness for a one-class detection problems. Moreover, it is also demonstrated how the proposed algorithm can be successfully deployed on a low-cost Android smartphone.

Truck crashes on steep downgrades due to excessive brake heating, resulting from brake applications to control speeding, are a continuing cause of concern for the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). In 2016, WYDOT funded a project to update the existing Grade Severity Rating System. Furthermore, in 2020, WYDOT commissioned a research project to automate the updated version of the mathematical model through an interactive, intuitive, aesthetically appealing and user-friendly Visual Basic.net objected-oriented software to simplify the computation of the maximum safe descent speed on these downgrades based on the truck weight. The software provides functionality for both the continuous Slope and separate downgrade methods. The primary beneficiaries of this software will be the highway agencies who will be able to estimate the maximum safe speed of descent for trucks with various weight categories and hence produce Weight Specific Speed (WSS) signs for each downgrade or a multigrade section.

This paper aims to address and explore the problem of rendering Alasdair Gray’s prose in Polish, by focusing on his works’ extra-narrative elements. It seeks to identify the difficulties and limitations in translating an author of this kind – a writer, but also, and perhaps primarily, an artist, whose texts function as book-objects, relying heavily on artwork as well as typographical experimentation. The analysis, centred on Gray’s Lanark, 1982, Janine and Poor Things, leads to a discussion of the broader question of translating these books in which the actual text is only part of the story.

concrete poetry, visual poetry, translation of the experimental forms of literature, text as an object
Opis:
The paper focuses on the methodological approach to the problem of translating experimental poetry. The presented analysis is based on three texts: Julian Kornhauser’s Przekład jako objaśnienie (O tłumaczeniu poezji konkretnej) from 1983, Jerzy Jarniewicz’s Tłumacze na urlop! and Leszek Engelking’s Konkretne decyzje tłumacza, both from 2006. Each of these three articles includes a translative strategy towards the concrete poetry. The term, in narrow meaning, can be used to describe the worldwide movement founded simultaneously in Switzerland/Germany (by Eugen Gomringer), Sweden (by Őyvind Fahlstrőm) and in Brazil (by the Noigandres group – Haroldo and Augusto de Campos and Décio Pignatari) in the early 1950s. The movement itself represents a form consisting of both verbal and visual elements and, in consequence, unites the distinctive marks of poetry and painting. With a vague status of a hybrid, as well as the experimental character, this specific genre is situated beyond the traditional categories of analysis and interpretation. Despite the confusion in terminology, though, there is fundamental requirement which the various kinds of concrete poetry meet: concentration upon the physical material from which the poem or text is made. Considered as an object, the concrete poem causes a fundamental problem in the frames of the translatology. The concrete poetry interpreters and researchers are disunited on the question of its translatabilty. Julian Kornhauser distinguishes the two major kinds of the concrete poem – a “poster-poem” and the “non-poster” one, the latter allowing or even requiring a translator’s intervention. The “poster-poem”, owing the complicated visual structure, cannot be translated. Jerzy Jarniewicz defines the entire concrete poetry as untranslatable, classifying it in the terms of the visual arts. Leszek Engleking presents a contrary view, which considers a translator as an interpret who promotes the experimental forms of poetry in the new literary context. The author of this paper attempts to put these methodological concepts into translation practice, examining the concrete poems of Eugen Gomringer, Friedrich Achleitner, Gerhard Rühm, Hansjörg Mayr and Jiří Kolář among others. While the most significant component of the concrete poem is language itself, treated predominantly as a graphic structure, the translation strategies can differ significantly. The analysis evokes its internal status, which appears to be miscellaneous from different perspectives, as it initiated an interdisciplinary genre by searching for new artistic horizons.
