In her writing, Vera Feyder, representative of the tribe called by the historians of Belgian iterature generation of identity, the question of identity is inextricably linked with the experience of World War II. The memory of childhood marked by the martyrdom of his father and the deep misery and loneliness, in which the author and his mother lived in the wartime, decide on the content and meaning of her writing. A sense of responsibility for other people, all resistance to the injustice, disagreement with indifference, memory of the past – it is a kind of code, which, according to Feyder, should apply a modern writer.

Opis:

Aloes jako ludowy medykament o wszechstronnych właściwościach prozdrowotnych jest znany ludzkości od setek lat. Ekstrakty aloesowe cieszą się ogromnym zainteresowaniem farmakologów, medyków oraz kosmetologów. Wykazano, że poszczególne składniki żelu aloesowego są antyoksydantami, stymulantami aktywności układu immunologicznego, mają właściwości antynowotworowe, obniżające poziom cukru i lipidów we krwi, a także wpływają pozytywnie na gojenie się ran czy oparzeń i działają przeciwzapalnie. Ostatnio opublikowano kilka znaczących prac, w których wykazano silne właściwości antyrakowe wybranych składników aloesu. Stąd, amerykańska FDA (ang. Food and Drug Administration) poparła projekty badań naukowych dotyczących zastosowania A. vera w leczeniu raka i AIDS u ludzi. W prezentowanej pracy przedstawiono ogólny skład żelu aloesowego wraz z najbardziej aktywnymi biologicznie substancjami. Scharakteryzowano aktywność antyoksydacyjną i przeciwdrobnoustrojową Aloesu, potencjalne działanie antynowotworowe oraz przedstawiono wpływ żelu aloesowego na przewód pokarmowy człowieka, przemiany węglowodanów, układ immunologiczny i proces gojenia się ran.
Aloe as a folk medicine with comprehensive healthpromoting properties has been known to humanity for hundreds of years. Aloe extracts are very popular among pharmacologists, medics and cosmetologists. It was demonstrated that the individual components of the aloe gel are antioxidants, stimulants of the immune system, have anti-cancer properties, lower blood sugar and lipid levels, and have a positive effect on wound healing, burns and anti-inflammatory effects. Recently, several significant papers have been published in which strong anti-cancer properties of selected aloe components have been demonstrated. Hence, the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has endorsed scientific research on the use of A. vera in the treatment of cancer and AIDS in humans. In the presented review, the general properties of Aloe are discussed, biological activity and the potential anti-cancer activity of the main, most active components of this plant are presented.

The work of Vera Feyder, a Wallo‐Serbo‐Polish‐Jewish author as she considers herself, has been developing, since its beginnings in 1961, in the feeling of abandonment. The poor childhood of the author, due to the absence of the father, the poet Maurice Federman who disappeared in the concentration camps, and the mother, Elise who due to lack of re‐ sources, had to place her daughter in the sanatoriums or homes for disadvantaged children, exerts a certain influence on the author who during all her lifetime couldn’t recover from this lack, important for her and for her work. The Feyder’s récit de filiation appears at first as a barely disguised autobiography; it is then a projection of nostalgia and rancor, even of hate which is the part of the identity of the author; it is finally getting even with the past, including the historical past.

Opis:

Chitosan based hydrogels due to their specific properties and structure belong to the group of materials widely used in medicine. They are used as drug carriers with controlled release of active substances and in the preparation of innovative wound dressings. The main aim of the conducted research was the choice of the most favorable parameters for carrying the cross-linking reaction by means of UV radiation and microwaves. Subsequently, an adequate composition of the mixture containing chitosan and gelatin for further modification of such prepared the polymer matrix with Aloe vera extract was selected. Subsequently, an impact of introduction of Aloe vera extract into hydrogel on its physicochemical properties and structure was determined. The scope of the research included the measurement of swelling abilities of hydrogels in distilled water and selected simulated body fluids as well as incubation studies aimed at determination of tendency of prepared materials to degradation in previously mentioned fluids and their compatibility in relation to such environments. In order to characterize the chemical structure of the polymers and impact of incubation on this structure spectroscopic analysis was performed. Microscopic analysis was used to define the surface morphology of the hydrogels. Moreover, materials containing Aloe vera extract were subjected to the studies of release of additive from hydrogel matrix. Research was conducted both in acid and alkaline environment.

The chapter provides an overview of the civil security in Poland. At the beginning, the notion of civil security is explained and delimitated using the most common current definitions related to civil security, such as civil protection or disaster management. Theoretical conceptualizations from the Polish literature on the subject are included as well. In the second part of the chapter, main outlines of the civil security in Poland are presented based on peoples’ perception of non-military threats. This is done based on the data from Eurobarometer surveys from 2011 and 2012, both of which had a civil security component. Here, also the regional context is brought into debate, as the outcomes for Poland are compared with the ones for the Visegrad Group and with those for the whole EU. In the third and the last section, the organization of civil security in Poland is outlined, together with the appreciation of the role of the non-governmental (i.e. civic and for-profit/private) sector. The section then proceeds with the understanding of civil security as provided by the extant Polish legislation. Such understanding and practice is then compared with the theoretical approaches which were provided at the beginning. Peoples’ perceptions, too, are brought again into the forefront as they are linked here to the actual civil security practice in Poland.

The novels of Vera Feyder are concerned with identity, memory, space and travel. In her writing her characters inhabit past and present, dream and reality. In particular, dreams and aquatic landscapes intersect in various creative ways in her oeuvre. This article analyses the contours of such landscape, understood in terms both internal and external, in two of her novels: Caldeiras (1982) and La Belle voyageuse endormie dans la brousse (2002).
L’œuvre narrative de Vera Feyder est focalisée sur deux thèmes essentiels : la recherche de l’identité et la quête d’un lieu à soi auxquels il faut ajouter la mémoire et le voyage. Ils se retrouvent tous dans le rêve que développent les personnages de ses romans, en voyageant entre le passé et le présent et entre différentes idenités qu’ils arborent toute leur vie durant. Ce rêve est apparenté à l’eau qui constitue la composante majeure du paysage romanesque de Feyder. L’article analyse les particularités de ce paysage qui est notamment un paysage intérieur, et se réfère à deux romans : Caldeiras (1982) et La Belle voyageuse endormie dans la brousse (2002).

Interlinguistics was created in order to help establish standards for auxiliary languages. However, over the course of its hundred-year history it has come to be understood in ever broader ways, generally as an interdisciplinary branch of science including various aspects of communication, including language planning and standardization, multilingualism, language policy, translation, sociolinguistics as well as the history and literature of planned languages. This expanded concept makes it possible for different scholars, researchers, associations and organizations to treat interlinguistics from extremely diverse points of view and for specialists in different sub-fields to work together. On the one hand, there is a clear lack of agreement concerning the subject matter of interlinguistics as can be seen, for example, in Wikipedia entries. On the other hand a broad understanding opens up new horizons for interlinguistics and makes deeper specialization in individual areas possible. It is therefore possible to see the future of interlinguistics in a positive light: there are still many interesting fields to discover whether through a reanalysis of historical documents or following the latest wave in internet-supported language construction and the activity of polyglots or observing the birth of new scientific specializations and sub-branches such as Slavic interlinguistics.
Interlingwistyka powstała jako nauka ustanawiająca standardy dla języków pomocniczych, ale w swojej stuletniej historii zaczęła być rozumiana coraz to szerzej, na ogół jako interdyscyplinarna gałąź nauki, obejmująca różne aspekty komunikacji, planowania i standaryzacji języka, wielojęzyczności, polityki językowej, tłumaczeń, socjolingwistyki, historii i literatury języków planowych itd. Ta rozszerzona koncepcja umożliwia różnym naukowcom, badaczom, stowarzyszeniom i organizacjom spojrzeć na interlingwistykę z wielu różnych punktów widzenia oraz pozwala na współpracę specjalistów z wielu spośród tych dziedzin. Z jednej strony widoczny jest brak jednolitego rozumienia zakresu tego pojęcia, czego można doświadczyć na przykład w Wikipediach. Z drugiej strony, szeroko definiowane rozumienie zarówno rozpościera przed interlingwistyką nowe horyzonty, jak i umożliwia zagłębienie się w poszczególnych aspektach. Dlatego przyszłość interlingwistyki może być pozytywnie postrzegana: nadal istnieje do odkrycia wiele interesujących terenów – czy to przez ponowną analizę dokumentów historycznych, czy też podążając za ostatnią falą konstruowania języków w Internecie i działaniami poliglotów, czy wreszcie obserwując narodziny nowych specjalizacji naukowych i podgałęzi jak interlingwistyka słowiańska.

Opis:

The purpose of this article is an attempt to characterize the category of corporeality in the poetry by Vera Pavlova and to identify its sources. The analysis shows that this category is realized in different images and motifs, becoming the dominant poetics. In her works, the carnality is not limited to describing the man but it turns out to be an important, universal code that allows you to see the world in terms of unity and organicity. In this respect, Pavlova’s aesthetic exploration resembles the acmeist and – more distant – an ancient tradition.

Naturally occurring products have gained popularity in recent decades, especially due to their less adverse effects on human health. Various Aloe species are widespread all over the world. Aloe vera is one of the plants exhibiting multiple benefits and has gained considerable importance in clinical research. Historically, it has been used for a variety of medicinal purposes. It has attracted the attention of many researchers because of its different properties. More than 200 different biologically active substances were found in this plant that contributed to the fact it has been used to treat various types of diseases. The healthy effect of Aloe vera is primarily attributed to the polysaccharides contained in the gel of the leaves. It has been traditionally used to treat various conditions, including psoriasis, sunburn or radiation-related dermatitis, mucositis, oesophagitis or lichen planus. Aloe vera has also found application in wound healing, treatment of burns, protection against skin damage caused by X-ray, intestinal problems, reduction of plaque and gingivitis, regulating the levels of plasma lipoproteins, reduction of blood sugar levels and improving the immune system. Other biological activities of aloe, such as antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and immunomodulatory have also been documented in numerous studies. This review examines the possible applications of Aloe vera in clinical trials.

Opis:

Severe leaf spot disease was observed on Aloe vera plants in the winters of 2011 and 2012 during a survey of various nurseries of Gwalior, India. Irregular, sunken, dark creamish brown spots having reddish brown margin were noticed on both surfaces of the leaves. The causal organism was consistently isolated from symptomatic leaves on potato dextrose agar media (PDA). A total 59 isolates of fungi were recovered from diseased A. vera leaves, and 37 isolates were identified as belonging to the genus Fusarium. On the basis of morphological characteristics and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of rDNA amplified using the primers ITS4/ITS5 the pathogen was identified as Fusarium proliferatum (Matsushima) Nirenberg and pathogenicity of the isolate was confirmed by using Koch’s postulates. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of leaf spot disease caused by Fusarium proliferatum on A. vera plants in India.

This study proposes that the doctrine of Dei Verbum 19 on the historicity of the Gospels, rather than elaborating a wholly “New Framework” (José Caba), configured by Formgeschichte and specially calibrated to acritical quest for the historical Jesus, is instead best understood as aclassic instance of conciliar ressourcement. Vatican II here recovers a fresh view of the definitive paradigm of sacred scripture, and the Church’s teaching on the historicity of Gospels is best understood as adumbrating a Lukan Framework. Indeed, the conciliar text represents a kind of magisterial exegesis of the preface of Luke’s Gospel. While this appeal to inspired scripture remains open to and even invites professional historical inquiry, the asphaleia of the Gospels is part of the preached message itself. The study is structured around several interlocking themes. First, I contextualize the teaching of Dei Verbum 19 historically and hermeneutically, supplying a broad background indicating the unlikelihood of any substantially “New Framework.” I then also provide a description of two major responses to the issue of historicity, the “big picture” and “plenary” views. Finally, I consider some recent trends in Gospel scholarship, notably memory studies, positioning them in relation to the council doctrine.
Niniejsze studium przedstawia propozycję interpretacji nauczania zawartego w paragrafie 19 Konstytucji Dei Verbum o historyczności Ewangelii jako typowego przykładu soborowego ressourcement, a nie całkowicie „nowego schematu” (José Caba), wypracowanego przez formgeschichte i specjalnie dostosowanego do krytycznego poszukiwania Jezusa historycznego. Sobór Watykański II przywraca tu nowe spojrzenie na ostateczny paradygmat Pisma Świętego, zaś nauczanie Kościoła na temat historyczności Ewangelii najlepiej rozumieć jako zarys schematu Łukaszowego. W istocie tekst soborowy stanowi swego rodzaju egzegezę wstępu do Ewangelii Łukasza. Chociaż to odwołanie do natchnionego Pisma pozostaje otwarte na profesjonalne badania historyczne, a nawet do nich zachęca, asphaleia Ewangelii jest częścią samego głoszonego orędzia. Studium jest skonstruowane wokół kilku przeplatających się tematów. Po pierwsze, kontekstualizuje nauczanie paragrafu 19 Dei Verbum historycznie i hermeneutycznie, wskazując na nieprawdopodobieństwo istnienia jakiegokolwiek zasadniczego „nowego schematu”. Następnie przedstawiony jest opis dwóch głównych poglądów na kwestię historyczności: perspektywy „wielkiego obrazu” i perspektywy „plenarnej”. Wreszcie omówione zostały ostatnie tendencje w nauczaniu o Ewangelii, zwłaszcza studia nad pamięcią w relacji do doktryny soborowej.

Opis:

Aloe vera leaves (AVL), a by-product of agricultural waste, have been applied as a biosorbent for reducing Ni(II) ions in aqueous solutions. The biosorption capability of AVL powder was enhanced through chemical treatment with 0.10 M citric acid solution. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscope coupled with energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), pH of point-zero-charge (pHPZC), and pHslurry analyses were used to study the surface, and chemical properties of citric acid-treated Aloe vera leaf powder (CAAVLP). The setting for experiments such as pH solution, CAAVLP dose, initial concentration, and biosorption time was investigated. Maximum Ni(II) ion biosorption capability was determined to be 48.65 mg/g based on the Langmuir model at pH 6, a CAAVLP dose of 0.02 g, initial Ni(II) concentrations of 5 to 50 mg/L and biosorption time of 120 min. The data for the isotherm and kinetics were well matched with the Freundlich and pseudo-second-order models, respectively, with high regression correlation (R2) and low chi-square (χ2) values. The presence of more-COOH groups after treating AVL with citric acid resulted in more Ni(II) ions being able to be removed.

Opis:

The effect of formulated Aloe vera based edible coating on mass loss, colour, firmness, pH, acidity, total soluble solid, ascorbic acid and lycopene on the coated tomato was investigated. The tomato in control showed a rapid deterioration with an estimated shelf life period of 19 days, based on the mass loss, colour changes, accelerated softening and ripening. On the contrary, the coating on tomatoes delayed the ripening and extended the shelf life up to 39 days. The physiological loss in weight was 7.6 and 15.1%, firmness was 36 and 46.2 N on 20th day for control and coated tomatoes, respectively. From the results, it was concluded that the use of Aloe vera based edible coating leads to increased tomato shelf-life.

The article is devoted to the trilogy of Eduard Boyakov, artistic director of the Moscow theatre “Praktika” and artistic director of “Polytheatre”, based on the poems of contemporary Russian poets Yelena Fanaylova, Vera Polozkova and Vera Pavlova. The aim of this project was to show the dramaturgy of the poetry, the rhythm and intonation by means of scenic resources. The center of attention was the last part of the trilogy Vera Pavlova. Poems about Love and her three productions. The author tries to prove that poetic performances of Boyakov, on the one hand continue the tradition of poetry in the Russian theatre (Yuriy Lyubimov’s activity and the Taganka Theatre in the 1960’s), on the other hand – have shown the need and importance of poetry in broad cultural space, including theatre. The activity of Eduard Boyakov confirms that contemporary poetry is needed in theatre: it’s not only the renewal of the repertoire, but also of the whole theatre.

Opis:

Pistacia vera L., whose edible fruit is the pistachio, is an economically important crop. It is cultivated worldwide and over 50 different varieties have been described attending to morphological and phenological characteristics. The selection of a suitable cultivar may affect the profitability of the orchards, and thus requires careful consideration for any given region. The type and concentration of nutrients taken up by the plant affect its development and eventually the quality and quantity of the fruits. It is a matter of discussion whether all varieties have the same capacity to absorb nutrients. In order to clarify this aspect, in this study the efficiency of nutrient uptake has been assessed for five pistachio varieties: three males (M38, G1, and Mateur), and two females (Batoury, and Joley), by measuring the concentration of 30 chemical elements in leaves by Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) and C/N micro-elemental analyses. Data were subjected to a non-parametric Friedman test, using a series of Wilcoxon Rank Sum test with a Bonferroni correction as post hocs. Our findings demonstrate that all these varieties have an equal uptake capacity for Al, Cr, Cu, K, Li, Mn, Ni, Pb, S, Sr, Ti, Tl, Zn, N, B, Fe, Mg, Na, and V. No differences related to the gender of the plants were detected. Only Mateur exhibited significantly higher levels of Ca and lower levels of C. Stock plants from an experimental plot were used as material. These plants are not used for productive purposes, and flowering and fruiting are partially restricted by removing potential nutrient-demanding structures. These findings support the contention that the presence/absence of such organs has more influence on the nutrient uptake than does the variety itself.

Opis:

The present article aims to analyse Vera Feyder’s text Règlement de contes by placing it in a vast French literary context and by highlighting the links that attach it to its praetexts - works on which it draws and which precede it. The examination carried out reveals that the play presented to the public in 1984 was written after the increased theoretical and literary interest in the tales of the 70s. On the other hand, its original form of radio broadcast revives the care to cultivate the oral tradition. The analysis of the work itself reveals the mix of sources with differen generic membership as well as multiple levels of hypertextuality. The transformations introduced at the level of the constituent elements of the action make it possible to speak of the change in the motivations of the protagonists while the ideological and aesthetic scope of the story is focused on the spirit of resourcefulness and the universality of the genre. Consequently, the adaptation of tales proposed by Vera Feyder (Puss in Boots, Little Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty by Charles Perrault and “Bon conseil aux amants” by Victor Hugo) falls under the art of palimpsest and makes it possible to classify it among the dramatic parodies of tales (according to Béatrice Ferrier’s typology).

A letter by Niccolò Perotti This paper is dedicated to a letter that Niccolò Perotti wrote to a friend. It is divided into two parts. The first part is an introduction to the letter. It presents an autobiography of the Renaissance humanist with special emphasis placed on his translations of ancient Greek texts into Latin. Jean-Louis Charlet, the leading researcher on the Italian’s works, highlights the importance of this particular letter for establishing the chronology of translations and Perotti’s other works, as well as his date of birth and other major events in his life. The introduction also discusses the epistolary art, which Perotti practiced and whose grammatical rules he wrote down so he could study them. Next, the author considers the subject matter of the letter, which oscillates between the notions of vera nobilitas and homo novus. Perotti decides to give himself over to literary activities and he substantiates his choice in a form of examination of conscience. For him as a humanist, who often avails himself of quotes from Pliny the Younger, true nobility arises out of the virtues of reason and is not based on material goods. In his deliberations, Perotti follows such remarkable minds as Petrarch, Poggio Bracciolini and Buonaccorso da Montemagno. He quotes Petrarch on the magnitude of human thought, Bracciolini on the threats arising from the desire for wealth, and Montemagno on the true source of nobility lying in virtue and a person’s work, but not in the right of inheritance. Finally, these thoughts are collated with the Stoic philosophy of Epictetus. Having translated Encheiridion, Perotti filled his epistolary confessions with an echo of the Stoic’s teachings. These mostly concern taking care of one’s soul and not becoming attached to material goods, obtained by twist of fate. In the second part, the author presents a collective translation of the discussed letter, preserved in manuscript in the Vatican Library (Vat. lat. 3027, f.115r–f.118r). It is a very important autobiographical document that allows the reader to look upon Perotti’s work in the context of the popularization of ancient Greek thought, as well as to his motivations and the internal dilemmas that were entailed in this undertaking.

De praedestinatione Eriugeny miało być jego głosem w kontrowersji wywołanej przez Gottschalka z Orbais wokół predestynacji. Dzieło to, choć odrzucało poglądy Gottschalka na temat podwójnej predestynacji, spotkało się z ostrą krytyką i potępieniem. Jednym z powodów takiego stanu rzeczy było niewątpliwie Eriugeny specyficzne rozumienie wolności woli, czemu przyjrzę się w innym tekście. Tutaj chciałabym się skupić na drugiej, istotnej przyczynie odrzucenia dzieła Eriugeny, którą był — jak sądzę — jego prescholastyczny projekt racjonalizacji wiary w duchu św. Augustyna, ale z zastosowaniem „metody” Boecjusza i Capelli. Wydaje się, że współcześni Eriugeny nie byli jeszcze gotowi na przyjęcie jego idei vera philosophia, która zarazem jest vera religio. Mistrzami Eriugeny byli tutaj Ojcowie Kościoła i jego intencją było kontynuowanie na swój własny sposób ich drogi zrozumienia wiary.
The De praedestinatione of John Scottus Eriugena was intended as a contribution to a controversy sparked off by Gottschalk of Orbais concerning predestination. This work met with trenchant criticism and condemnation even though it firmly rejected Gottschalk’s views on double predestination. One of the reasons for this hostile reception was undoubtedly Eriugena’s singular conception of the freedom of will, a subject I intend to discuss elsewhere. In the present text, however, I would like to focus on another important cause of the rejection of Eriugena’s treatise. In my opinion, this second reason was a pre-scholastic project of rationalization of the faith in the spirit of St. Augustine and using the method of Boethius and Martianus Capella. It would appear that Eriugena’s contemporaries were not ready for the favorable reception of his idea of the vera philosophia that was the same as the vera religio. Yet, as Goulven Madec once rightly observed, the vera ratio of Scotus was closely bound up with the lux mentium which is nothing else than God revealing himself in the human language of the Scriptures. Eriugena’s masters and models were the Church Fathers and his intention was to continue their efforts to achieve an understanding of the faith in his own, personal way.

Let K be a compact Hausdorff space, $C_p(K)$ the space of continuous functions on K endowed with the pointwise convergence topology, D ⊂ K a dense subset and $t_p(D)$ the topology in C(K) of pointwise convergence on D. It is proved that when $C_p(K)$ is Lindelöf the $t_p(D)$-compact subsets of C(K) are fragmented by the supremum norm of C(K). As a consequence we obtain some Namioka type results and apply them to prove that if K is separable and $C_p(K)$ is Lindelöf, then K is metrizable if, and only if, there is a countable and dense subset D ⊂ K such that $(C(K),t_p(D))$ is analytic. We also show that if K is a separable Rosenthal compact space, then K is metrizable if, and only if, $C_p(K)$ is Lindelöf. We complete our study by showing that if K does not contain a copy of βℕ, then convex $t_p(D)$-compact subsets of C(K) have the weak Radon-Nikodym property.

Opis:

Chemical processes use to be non-minimum phase systems. Thereby, they are a challenge for control applications. In this paper, fuzzy state feedback is applied in the Van de Vusse reaction that has an inverse response. The control design has an integrator to enhance the control performance by eliminating the steady-state error when a step reference is applied. An anti-windup action is used to reduce the undershoot in the system response. In practice, it is not possible to have always access to all the state variables. Thus, a fuzzy state observer is implemented via LMIs. Frequently, the papers that show similar applications present some comments about disturbance rejection. To eliminate the steady-state error when a ramp reference is used, in this work, a second integrator is aggregated. Now, the anti-windup also reduces the overshoot generated due to the usage of two integrators in the final application.

To ensure their security, organizations reach for more and more new solutions. They implement new co-management models based on the ideology of governance and Compliance Management System. One of the most important elements of the latter is the Whistleblowing Management System (hereinafter WMS), which can serve as an effective preventive barrier for an organization and a tool for collecting information from whistleblowers, verifying received information about violations of law and issuing recommendations on actions to be taken. Legal regulations being introduced in this area, both international and national, will not only allow greater access to whistleblowing channels for the majority of society but will also contribute to build a positive image of the whistleblower and increasing public awareness in this regard. Organizations are often exposed to activities that threaten their security in all dimensions. Starting with financial losses, through the most severe – image losses, or safety of the production line, safety of employees, physical and technical security of facilities. Therefore, it is important to conduct research that will indicate the possibilities of maximizing the use of whistleblowers to ensure the security of organizations and to propose improvements in this process, which should noticeably contribute to increasing the level of security, which in these times is a priority issue.

The forests of urbanised areas provide multiple ecosystem services and are highly dynamic. Determining the trends in species composition changes can help to predict their future capacity to fulfil ecological and resource-maintaining functions. We examined the direction of forest successions in the Northeast Moscow region under the canopy of different tree species. Field data were obtained from 78 permanent test plots monitored for more than a 15-year period; field studies were complemented by archival data. The cluster analysis made it possible to divide all plots into five groups by current species composition and structure and into eight groups by the importance of broadleaved species in the undergrowth. Gradual evolution (cohort dynamics) was found to be typical for middle-aged secondary forests; patch dynamics was described in mature stands of late succession species after non-critical natural disturbances; drastic changes were observed in spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) stands after pest attacks. Two main trends were revealed in species composition shift: restoration of mixed spruce-broadleaved forests and development of limedominated broad-leaved forests, the latter being the prevailing one in the stands of composite forest types. Intensive development of oak-associated species is probably related to the climate conditions in the Moscow megacity. The content of this article may be of interest for researchers studying natural forest dynamics and can be used for prospective planning of target species composition in the forestries of the Moscow region.

Based on the collected statistical material, the analysis of population changes in the North Caucasus regions since the last allRussian population census until 2018 was conducted. The article considers the main factors of the current population reproduction, and trends in the dynamics of the population in the North Caucasus were set. Based on the obtained data, the subjects of the North Caucasus are divided into two categories. The first are Russian-speaking regions where the absolute population growth is observed due to a positive migration balance that covers the natural decline of the population. The other category includes mainly national republics with a high natural growth that covers a significant migration outflow of the population. Despite the favorable demographic situation in the region under study, there is a trend towards the end of the demographic boom that is typical of the entire North Caucasus region. In general, there is a stabilization of the birth rate and natural growth, and a decrease in the intensity of migration movements.

Opis:

The oldest historical monument of the town in Blansko is the castle, which developed from a fortified manor-house dating from the 14th century. The author presents the history of the manor-house and the estate of Blansko. The 16th century rebuilding of the manor-house changed its character tu r ning it into a fortified manor-house, which, in turn, was fu rth e r rebuilt in 19th — and 20th centuries. The latest rebuildings caused considerable deformations to the building. Therefore, when in 1958 they proceeded to its reconstruction, the first thing to do was to remove all the annexes. In this way the castle regained its Renaissance character. Gothic elements (e.g. the Round Tower) have been also preserved. Nowadays a museum and a library are situated in the castle. Electricity, water piping and sewerage have been laid on inside the building. Moreover, the park that surrounds the castle has been arranged till now and the approaches of the castle, where administrators live and municipal offices are located, are now being arranged.

While the armed forces of Kurdish guerilla and militia fought first against ISIS forces on the Şengal Mountain in Iraq and then against Assad’s army for the control of Kobane, a part of the territory of Rojava in Northern Syria that became a symbol of Kurdish autonomy, the media presented this struggle as a fight for survival of all Kurds. At that time, the large Kurdish diaspora showed heretofore unprecedented levels of unity, launching a very modern, multimodal and multilevel campaign that focused on raising civic awareness through large-scale publicity events, collection of funds to aid victims of violence, and extensive lobbying. One of their aims was the removal of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) from the list of terrorist groups. The young generation of the Kurdish diaspora, Europe-born and well educated, consciously used opportunities provided by social media and their network of relations to build up the image of Kurdish military groups as trustworthy partners in the fight against ISIS, simultaneously trying to undermine and shame the Turkish government, already criticized for their management of the Syrian conflict.

Opis:

More than 4.6 mln ha in the Russian Federation are irrigated. Their culvert hydraulic structures are part of network structures and are the most widespread. After the crisis of the 1990s, proper maintenance of many reclamation systems was impossible due to a lack of funds. This led to the loss of about half of the water taken from irrigation sources in irrigation canals. The planned increase in the technical level of irrigation systems requires the automation of the operation of both the entire system as a whole and separately located culverts. This will avoid significant losses of water supply for irrigation and prevent water shortages with the insufficient discipline of water users. Means of hydraulic automation of water supply are being installed on small irrigation canals in Russia. A water flow regulating valve is proposed, with no mechanical movinparts, and gates are not involved in the control process. The operation of the structure is based on the injection effect, in which excess water entering the downstream with a decrease in water consumption begins to circulate between the outlet section of the transit pipe and the diffuser at the end section of the valve. Using the methods of measuring hydrodynamics and the theory of jet devices, theoretical dependences were obtained, which make it possible to determine the main hydraulic characteristics of the structure. The design form of the flow part of the regulator has been developed and a physical model has been made. In a mirror hydraulic flume, the operation modes of the water outlet were studied with and without regulation. The actual values of hydraulic parameters were obtained, which confirmed the validity of the use of theoretical dependencies. The discrepancy between the theoretical and experimental results is within the experimental error. It has been proven that it is possible to circulate excess water between the downstream and intermediate pools of the regulator.

.В настоящата статия са поставени два основни проблема. Първият е свързан със ситуирането на повествователната стратегия на представяне на османеца в романите "Случаят Джем" и "Последните Шишмановци" в рамките на българския исторически и литературен контекст от 60-те и 70-те години на ХХ век. Образите на мюсюлманите и турците в историческите романи на Вера Мутафчиева не могат да бъдат разглеждани без контекста на възрожденската и фолклорна традиция на представяне на османските турци. В така начертаните аналитични контекстови полета се очертават три важни конфликтогенни теми, чиeто пресъздаване може да послужи като критерий за оценка на полския превод на романа "Случаят Джем" — темата за Изтока и Запада, темата за многоетничността в Османската империя и темата за българските стереотипи за турците, исляма, за епохата на османско управление и за собствената национална идентичност. Вторият засяга полския прочит на горепосочените романи на Мутафчиева, изразен в превода. Анализът на някои значими детайли показва, че в полската езикова версия образът на османските турци не следва акцентите на оригинала и елиминира неговите локални начения, а следователно — нивелира заложените в него ключови за интерпретацията му конфликти и противоречия.
This paper raises two main questions. The first one is how to situate the strategy of representation of Ottoman Turks in historical novels of Vera Mutafchieva "The Djem Affair" and "The Last Shishmans" in the frames of bulgarian historical and literary context of the ‘60s and ‘70s of the 20th century. It is not possibile to describe this strategy without reference to the impact of folklore and nineteenth century tradition of representing the Muslims and Turks. In this context fields three themes that causes conflicts are distinguished and their interpretation in the translation of the novel could be used as a criterium for the translation’s evaluation. These themes are the notion of East and West, the topic of multiethnicity in Ottoman Empire and bulgarian stereotypes of Turks, Islam and national identity. The second question is how the Polish translator interpreted above mentioned historical novels of Mutafchieva. The analysis of some important details shows that the polish translation of "The Djem Affair" do not follow original emphases and thus eliminate some local meanings of the novel, which means that it obliterates some of its key conflicts and contradictions.

Danian and Selandian successions in western Siberia are rich in calcareous benthic foraminifers. The assemblages with a constant systematic composition that have the widest lateral occurrence are distinguished as foraminiferal zones. The Brotzenella praeacuta Zone was established in the low-carbonate, clayey beds that form the transition from the Gankinskaya Suite to the Talitskaya Suite. These transitional beds are assigned to the Danian. The calcareous benthic foraminifers in this zone occur mainly together with agglutinated forms. The zone is traced along the areas of the largest subsidence of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic basin, principally in depressions. The transition from the Cretaceous to the Palaeogene is represented by a continuous succession, in which the Danian deposits escaped from erosion and were found to contain the B. praeacuta assemblage. In Danian rocks with a shallow-marine facies (near Beryozovo and in the Ust’-Tym depression, Fig. 1), the Bathysiphon nodosarieformis - Glomospira charoides assemblage occurs. It is dominated by primitive forms in addition to more advanced tests (mainly Late Maastrichtian relic species). The overlying Selandian (Middle Palaeocene) foraminiferal assemblages are assigned to the Talitskaya Suite. The Ammoscalaria friabilis assemblage is widely spread and is represented mainly by agglutinated quartz-siliceous forms. Beds with these species are attributed to the Ammoscalaria friabilis Zone, which can be correlated with beds in the East containing Cyclammina coksuvorovae. The Cibicidoides proprius assemblage is known from the lower and middle beds of the Talitskaya Suite in Transuralia, the Omsk Depression and more south-eastern areas; the species of this assemblage are characteristic of the Selandian.

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) represents a major development and change in educational practice that continues to have a large impact across subjects and disciplines worldwide. PBL is a successful teaching and learning strategy used to engage students in deep rather than surface learning and where the learning is student focused rather than teacher focused (Biggs,1999). The paper presents the comparison of PBL with traditional learning in the teaching of geography in high school. Comparative analysis of the results of the pedagogical experiment, which included three high schools, 14 classes with 339 students, is carried out. In the statistical analysis of data t-test was used to check the hypothesis on the differences of the arithmetic means. The results of the final test showed that there was a significant difference in the arithmetic means between the students who had taken a PBL course and the students who had taken a traditional course. It can be concluded that PBL has a positive impact on improving student achievement in the learning of geography in elementary and secondary schools.

he Interatheriinae (Notoungulata, Interatheriidae) from the Collón Curá Formation (Colloncuran South American Land Mammal Age, SALMA) are revised here, based on old and new collections from western Neuquén, Río Negro, and Chubut provinces where this geologic unit crops out. After a detailed study of the holotype of Icochilus endiadys, we conclude that its cranial and dental morphology are diagnostic of the genus Protypotherium, and as a result we include I. endiadys in this genus (P. endiadys comb. nov.). Deciduous dentition and postcranial remains are also ascribed to P. endiadys, which allows us to determine its pattern of dental eruption and describe part of its limbs, expanding its diagnosis. In addition, we describe a new species of Protypotherium, P. colloncurensis sp. nov., which differs from P. endiadys in having larger size, a more robust mandible, strongly imbricate upper molars, a well-developed parastyle on P1, a subcircular and non-overlapping p1, a much reduced p2, and a smaller talonid on p3–4. Based on the revision, we identified only one genus of Interatheriinae in the Collón Curá Formation (i.e., Protypotherium). Protypotherium endiadys extends its distribution from Neuquén to Chubut provinces, including Río Negro; the new species, in turn, was only recognized in Río Negro Province, appearing together with P. endiadys in Estancia El Criado, Comallo, and Chico River localities. Discriminant and cladistic analyses were performed including P. endiadys, the new taxon, and other middle Miocene interatheres, and yielded strong support for our systematic conclusions. A thorough phylogenetic analysis of Protypotherium is provided for the first time. Based on this analysis, Protypotherium and Miocochilius form a monophyletic group supported by four synapomorphies.

Opis:

The aim of the present work was to assess an eco friendly natural antimicrobial textile finish extracted from Aloe gel and Neem plants. Extracted Aloe gel and active substance of Neem were mixed in a mordant to form a finish. Bleached cotton samples were treated with 5, 7, and 10% concentrations of Aloe gel and Neem separately. The same samples were then treated with a hybrid combination of Aloe gel and Neem (HCAN) extracts having 5, 7 and 10% concentrations. These finished samples were subjected to an antibacterial activity test against E. coli and S. aureus, an antifungal activity test against Aspergillus Niger, and a test of their durability of antibacterial finish fastness to washing by standard test methods. It was found that the hybrid combination of Aloe gel and Neem (HCAN) was an effective antibacterial and antifungal agent as compared to Aloe gel and Neem separately. It also showed good durability to washing.

Te same próbki były następnie nasycane preparacją hybrydową zawierającą obydwa składniki o tym samym stężeniu. Uzyskane próbki poddano badaniom antybakteryjnym przeprowadzając testy przeciwko E. coli i S. aureus, i antygrzybicznej aktywności przeciwko Aspergillus niger. Niezależnie od tego przeprowadzano próby trwałości preparacji antybakteryjnych po praniu w standardowych warunkach. Stwierdzono, że preparacja hybrydowa obydwu składników była aktywniejsza zarówno w stosunku do bakterii i grzybów niż preparacje z użyciem jednego tylko składnika.

The biblical history of salvation results in tightening the bond between God and man more and more closely, though there is a sudden change in the quality between the Old and New Testaments that makes the bond so far expressed through the Covenant to fulfil itself in the theandric communion in the Person of Jesus Christ. Christianity arises as a communion and, as such, it fulfils itself in the Church, through the Holy Spirit: it consists in making a gift of oneself and relying on the gift. J. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI shows how Christianity not only enters the structures of reality, but – in fact − constitutes its most appropriate − since salutary − structure and a hermeneutic key to understand man. What seems paradoxical, or even nonsensical in Christianity, as a matter of fact, breaks the absurdity of atheistically ideologised structure of the world and thinking.

The report provides an assessment of the innovation factor in the reindustrialisation of Eastern Siberia, based on data on R&D costs and the introduction of innovative products. The Krasnoyarsk Territory has the greatest innovative potential, followed by the Irkutsk Region. The terms of modernisation of industrial complexes in Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk were compared on the basis of the triple helix model. This model formalises the interrelation of production with university education and the development of interaction between all parties of the innovation process. The leadership of the Krasnoyarsk Territory was confirmed by a more developed innovation infrastructure of universities that interact with local engineering and aerospace corporations. Industrial production of the Irkutsk oblast is more focused on the extraction of minerals and the production of primary processing goods due to its more eastern position and dependence on the needs of the Chinese market.

The presented study focuses on the interactive cognition of expert teachers during their teaching. 16 foreign language teachers’ lessons were videotaped and the teachers were asked to reveal their interactive cognition through a stimulated recall interview. The verbal protocols were then analyzed in the light of argumentation analysis and the claims were subject to content analysis. The results showed that individual teachers varied greatly as regards their percentages of stimulated recall as well as other aspects of their interactive cognition, which supports the prototypical view of teacher expertise.

The study of 114 core samples from seven borehole sections of the Van-Eganskaya area in the central part of Western Siberia yielded sufficient data to investigate the Late Cenomanian-Turonian foraminifers, palaeoenvironments, and the Late Cenomanian-Turonian biostratigraphy of this poorly studied area. Two Late Cenomanian foraminifer zones were established, viz. a (lower) Saccammina micra - Ammomarginulina sibirica Zone and an (upper) Trochammina wetteri tumida - Verneuilinoides kansasensis Zone. They reflect changes in the species composition of the foraminifer assemblages and lithology of the host rocks of the Uvatskian Horizon. In the lower part of the upper zone, beds with Gaudryinopsis nanushukensis elongatus are present. The changes in the species composition and lithology of the upper Cenomanian resulted from water-depth variations during the Boreal transgression. Two distinct assemblages and two homonymous zones, viz. the (lower) Gaudryinopsis angustus and the (upper) Pseudoclavulina hastata zones occur in the Turonian clayey cap-rocks of the superimposed Kuznetsovskian Horizon. Comparison of the Late Cenomanian-Turonian assemblages from the West-Siberian and Canadian provinces of the same Arctic palaeobiogeographical realm shows that the West-Siberian species are the same as, and closely related to, Canadian taxa, along with geographical subspecies. This comparison allows a detailed correlation, which results in a precise dating of the foraminifer zones.

The aim of the research was to study the temporal and spatial dynamics of a set of agronomic criteria for irrigation water in the process of transporting it from the Southern Buh River intake site to the lands of the Southern Buh and Kamianska irrigation systems situated in southern Ukraine. Six stationary research sites for monitoring the quality of irrigation water were established along the route of irrigation water transportation. Determination of agronomic criteria for irrigation water quality was carried out in two terms: at the beginning of the irrigation season, in May, and at the end, in September. The content of cations of sodium, magnesium, calcium, and anions of chlorine, sulphates, carbonates, and bicarbonates was determined. In the field, the pH and electrical conductivity of water, the total salt content, and the total amount of dissolved solids were determined. It is determined that waters have an average level of danger from the point of view of salinisation of soils. This fact leads to a decrease in yield of sensitive to salinity crops (corn, alfalfa and most vegetables). The high content of sodium cations along with the low content of calcium and magnesium cations indicates the danger of degradation of the physical properties of the southern chernozems and the need to use the meliorants containing calcium. There is a high probability of toxic effects on crops caused by sodium cations. At the same time, it is stated that there is no negative effect of chlorine anions on plants.

Artykuł proponuje nową perspektywę w badaniu auto/biograficznej twórczości potomków ocalałych z Zagłady, tj. potraktowanie biografii jako modusu drugopokoleniowej autobiografii. Na podstawie analizy książki Agaty Tuszyńskiej Oskarżona: Wiera Gran (2010) o ocalałej z Zagłady żydowsko-polskiej śpiewaczce autorzy argumentują, że w tym przypadku biografia ocalałej staje się laboratorium rozumienia własnego doświadczenia dla przedstawicielki pokolenia postpamięci. Artykuł ponadto pokazuje, jak w heterogenicznej formie gatunkowej auto/biografii niczym w soczewce skupiają się podstawowe problemy zarówno refleksji o Zagładzie, jak i badań nad życiopisaniem: kwestie identyfikacji, stosowności, wiktymizacji, autentyczności, prawdziwości czy konstruktów kulturowych dotyczących płci.
This paper offers a new perspective on the life narratives produced by second-generation Holocaust survivors – specifically, it proposes to consider the genre of biography to be a distinctive mode of second-generation autobiography. In its detailed analysis of Vera Gran. The Accused (2010; English translation 2013), a story of the Jewish-Polish star chanteuse and Holocaust survivor Vera Gran, the essay argues that the survivor’s biography becomes Tuszyńska’s laboratory of the self: an opportunity for the member of the postmemory generation to understand her very own experience. The paper also demonstrates how auto/biography – this essentially heterogenic life narrative – may successfully address some of the key issues for both Holocaust and life-writing studies: self-/other-identification, appropriateness, victimisation, authenticity, truthfulness, and gender-related constructs.

On Dynamism of Images. Primary Aesthetic Categories in Věra Linhartová’s Concept of Image The aim of this paper is to argue the thesis that the theory of art and literature postulated by Věra Linhartová, a Czech writer, art and literary theorist who has been living in exile in France since 1968, is based on two significant categories – spatiality and movement. While both notions are strictly entwined with each other, it is the movement that plays the role of the key denominator in Linhartová’s theoretical and literary works which is pointed out by the author herself in her essay For an Ontology of Exile (1994). Due to a twofold – expository and comparative – character of the study, it is structured as an open and complementary diptych. First of all, drawing on Linhartová’s interpretative and theoretical essays, the analysis strives to retrace her individual and peculiar vision of image. The exposition of Linhartová’s methodological approach serves as the starting point for the comparison and contrast between her theory and methodological concepts concerning the theory of image – mainly Georges Didi-Huberman’s idea of image. The paper concludes with an opening to further analysis and interpretation of Linhartová’s theoretical and literary texts.

Opis:

Excitation of nonlinear acoustic monopulses, or baseband waves, is theoretically analyzed. The monopulses have a wide spectrum up till the gigahertz range ≤ 1 GHz. The propagation of waves is along the interface between a solid film and a solid substrate. A quadratic elastic nonlinearity in both contacting media of the system is taken into account. The nonlinear dynamics of waves depends essentially on the thickness of the film. The transverse inhomogeneity of the wave profile in the interface plane and the wave diffraction are taken into account, too. The baseband waves are not true solitons and manifest as single shock-like pulses in the case of an excitation from initial long rectangular pulses. The transverse inhomogeneity affects the dynamics of the shocks, and there is a possibility to focus the nonlinear monopulses.

The Baltic elements in the grammar of traditional local dialects of north-western BelarusThe article analyzes a number of grammatical features typical for the North-West dialect zone of the Belarusian language. These peculiarities are interpreted as a possible result of Slavic-Baltic contacts in the region. Some phenomena can be explained as a Baltic (mainly (great)Lithuanian) substratum in North-West Belarusian dialects.The factor of areal neighborhood has to be taken into consideration too. Such phenomenon as language support has effect just in connection with the last one. A lot of the appropriate lingual facts are in restricted and inconsistent use. However, it is possible to be said about more or less significant (now or/and before) tendencies of regional lingual development. These tendencies has not got the status of a structural (= constitutional) lingual regularity. As a rule the wide and compact areas are characterized of some lingual facts (= lexemes), which illustrate the given transformations in the system of Belarusian dialects. Baltic influence upon the North-West Belarusian dialects grammar is detected on as the formal level so the structural one. And it is not noticeable at all times. The definite changes in the sphere of morphology and syntax can provoke different modifications in the other parts of a language system (word building, semantics). The results of this process are the evidences of ethnic and language assimilation of native Balts by Slavs in the region. That comes in support of forming the singular North-West Belarusian regiolect (= the regionally marked variety of a dialect language). Балтийские грамматические элементы в говорах северо-западной БеларусиВ статье анализируется ряд грамматических черт, характерных для говоров северо-западной диалектной зоны беларусского языка. Эти особенности квалифицируются автором как весьма вероятное следствие славяно-балтского языкового взаимодействия в соответствующем регионе. Отдельные явления есть основания рассматривать в качестве возможного проявления балтского (главным образом (пра-) литовского) субстрата в северо-западных беларусских говорах. Фактор ареальной смежности здесь также должен быть принят во внимание. В связи с последним следует упомянуть и действие феномена языковой поддержки. Многие соответствующие языковые факты имеют существенные ограничения в употреблении, в говорах выступают не всегда последовательно и регулярно. В некоторых случаях, однако, можно говорить о действии более или менее выраженных (в настоящем и/или прошлом) тенденций регионального языкового развития, которые пока не приобрели статус структурно значимой (= конститутивной) языковой закономерности. Широкие и компактные ареалы образуют, как правило, лишь отдельные языковые факты (= лексемы), иллюстрирующие данные трансформации в системе традиционных беларусских говоров. Балтское влияние на грамматический строй беларусских говоров северо-западной диалектной зоны выявляется как в плане формального выражения, так и на внутриструктурном уровне. Оно не всегда может быть заметно на первый взгляд. Определенные сдвиги в сфере морфологии и синтаксиса могут повлечь за собой изменения в других областях языковой системы (словообразовании, семантике). Результаты этого процесса являются ярким свидетельством того, что на отмеченной территории действительно имела место этноязыковая ассимиляция неславянского (= балтского) населения и происхо- дило формирование своеобразного северо-западного беларусского региолекта (= регионально обусловленной разновидности диалектной речи).

Opis:

The object of the paper are the border regions of Siberia as a part of the planned China-MongoliaRussia economic corridor in China’s foreign policy initiative “One Belt One Road”. The aim of the study is to reveal the nature of the interaction of these regions with the outside world to determine the ways of their development within a common economic space of the corridor. The study is based on the analysis of foreign investment flows to the border regions using macro- and microeconomic methods. The volume foreign capital goes mainly to mining, while other industries are dominated by small enterprises formed by foreign citizens, not corporations. In these areas, intermediary business prevails, which does not require increased human capital. China is gradually replacing other counter-partners in the use of natural resources, including mineral and forest ones. The problems of development of the border regions in common economic space of the corridor due to similar resource specialisation and weak development of the embedded economy have been identified. With the development of transit infrastructure, it is necessary to develop local industries integrated into large projects and capable of using this infrastructure to expand sales markets.

Opis:

A study from the OECD published that Cancer is one of the main causes of mortality in developed societies, with remarkably high prevalence, incidence and mortality rates for both sexes. This study closely examines nine digital games to elucidate how they conceptualize a disease like cancer around a narrative concerning the sickness, patients, treatments and outcomes. Discourse and content analysis techniques were applied to the message contained in the games looking to illuminate the connection between the narrative core, the audio-visual representation and the interactive aspects of the game, within the parameters of values-conscious design applied to digital games. This provides some evidence about the cultural and visual aspects of how game designers conceptualize the disease as a part of society. This research uncovers culturally embedded themes and reveals the prevalence of metaphor use in cancer discourse which relied on science, social support and spiritual convictions for social empowerment, building empathy and identification.

Opis:

The paper portrays the Macedonian folk Christianity, existing outside the official Church. Systematic scientific researches, also conducted nowadays, have shown that this phenomenon is not only still alive, but it is even growing – especially after 1989, when the Church in Macedonia started to recover. In the mainstream of popular Christianity, the Marian tradition is represented most strongly. Macedonians believe that the Mother of God since time immemorial until today has been personally involved in the construction of their church – as well in the spiritual as in the material meaning. An example could be the village Nowaci from Bitolszczyzna. Its population is convinced, that the church and monastery in the village were built on the order of Mary and according to her architectural project. The middleman between the Mother of God and the builders was supposed to be local clairvoyant Menka, called in a supernatural way to serve God.

Opis:

The verb ὑπάρχω, ‘to belong to’, is frequently used in Greek papyri to denote possession in legal documents. The possessor in such constructions can be indicated by a personal pronoun in the dative or genitive. In this article, I show that the diachronic scribal and phraseological variation that is found in legal formulae with this verb points not only to an increase in the use of the genitive pronoun by individual scribes in certain constructions, but also to a general change from a dative to a genitive case in liability clauses in the Byzantine period. These changes may be connected to the process of dative case syncretism in post-Classical Greek.

Opis:

Studies related to artifacts, to what has been traditionally categorized as ‘high’ and ‘minor’ or ‘applied arts’, and to the materiality of art in recent years have been among the core foci of art history. More scholarly attention has also been given to the intersections between visual and material culture, not least in transcultural contexts. This paper seeks to contribute to these issues. Investigating transmaterial and transmedial dynamics between the arts, image-object interrelations as well as phenomena wherein images themselves gave the impulse to the creation of artifacts, the paper analyzes transfer processes transgressing various media and materials, 15th- and 16th-century Italian and Portuguese paintings in their Mediterranean and global entanglements, as well as 19th - and 20th-century artistic and academic approaches to objects in paintings.

Opis:

In the article we shall study the position of the second largest community in the city of Salonica – the Muslim community – during the Balkan Wars (1912-1913), using British and Austrian documents. We can conclude that the Balkan Wars satisfied the ambitions of the Balkan states’ nationalist circles which, of course, had the politics of the Great Powers behind them. That such of the case was obvious at both conferences that took place in London at the same time – the Conference of the Ambassadors of the Great Powers and the Peace Conference of the Balkan states engaged in war. 80 years after these wars, a new war threatened the Balkans and was led, with all its attributes of cruelty, on the territory of former Yugoslavia. Reflecting on this phenomenon from today’s perspective, we can come to the conclusion that the historical lesson taught by the Balkan Wars (1912/13) had not been learnt.
