Opis:
This study presents the proposal for calculations of overall characteristics of unit HC emissions from passenger whicles. Inspiration for the project was derived from the author 's own research and the research works by the selected centres, both in Poland and abroad. Overall, (static) characteristics, with maps of unit emissions of HC, CO and NOx were employed as a basis. This assumption is based on different profiles of fuel consumption and emissions in driving and non-driving phases. In calculations for driving conditions, static overall characteristics of unit emissions were complemented with characteristics of changes in DeltaHC, DeltaCO and DeltaNOx for non-stationary engine working conditions. The author based on the results obtained by other authors has already developed these partial characteristics. Development of reliable characteristics requires implementation of expensive research program (in cooperation with main research centres in Poland), which will require changes in a leading control parameter. In particular, uncorrected, corrected, dynamic correction maps for emissions of HC, examples of dynamic characteristics for emissions from vehicles, characteristics of HC emissions for 5 run-up phases in higher gears and engine braking, numbers for vehicle driving and non-driving phases considered in calculations, coverage of operation field for the engine, static overall characteristics of unit HC emissions, effect of equivalence ratio on performance of three-way catalytic exhaust converter are presented in the paper.

Opis:
The performance of internal combustion engines depends on the engine operating conditions, both on the static conditions as well as on the presence of dynamic conditions, where the operating condition of the engine heated to a stable temperature can be determined by the load and the speed. This paper presents the results of empirical studies of unit emissions of pollutants from Cummins 6C8.3 engine in static and dynamic tests, both for standard tests used in certification procedures, as well as for special tests developed for internal combustion engines of work machines.

Opis:
The paper presents a comparison of selected power technologies from the point of view of emissions of greenhouse gases. Such evaluation is most often based only on analysis of direct emissions from combustion. However, the direct analysis does not show full picture of the problem as significant emissions of GHG appear also in the process of mining and transportation of fuel. It is demonstrated in the paper that comparison of power technologies from the GHG point of view has to be done using the cumulative calculus covering the whole cycle of fuel mining, processing, transportation and end-use. From this point of view coal technologies are in comparable level as gas technologies while nuclear power units are characterised with lowest GHG emissions. Mentioned technologies are compared from the point of view of GHG emissions in full cycle. Specific GHG cumulative emission factors per unit of generated electricity are determined. These factors have been applied to simulation of the influence of introduction of nuclear power units on decrease of GHG emissions in domestic scale. Within the presented simulations the prognosis of domestic power sector development according to the Polish energy policy till 2030 has been taken into account. The profitability of introduction of nuclear power units from the point of view of decreasing GHG emissions has been proved.

Opis:
The transposition of the EU ETS directive in Poland causes several interpreta- tion problems. The biggest concern is caused by the imprecise definition of the stationary technical unit, which forces the installations’ operators to function in state of uncertainty. The primary reason for this is that the word unit in Polish language might be translated in various manners. The choice of Polish legislator does not allow the operators that have several devices that only jointly meet the requirements of Annex I of the EU ETS directive to have the capability of defining whether they will be regarded as one installation or several technical units that do not meet the participation criteria of EU ETS. The problem of practical nature, which is shown by the response of Ministry of Environment of Republic of Poland to the author’s motion for disclosure of public information. The article focuses on the problem itself, the Ministry of Environment response, as well as de lege ferenda considerations.

Opis:
Marine diesel engines lose a huge amount of fuel heat content in the form of exhaust gas and jacket cooling water, especially onboard high-powered marine vehicles such as Ro-Pax ships. In this paper, the possibility of using the waste heat of marine diesel engines as a source of heat for air conditioning absorption system is investigated. The thermodynamic analysis, in addition to the environmental and economic analysis of the air condition absorption cycle operated with two heat sources using lithium bromide as absorbent, are performed using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) software. The last 10 years have seen a steady growth in the passenger ferry and Ro-Pax market, with particularly strong growth in passenger numbers. As a case study, a Ro-Pax vessel operating in the Red Sea area is considered, regarding the profitability of using air conditioning absorption system. The results show specific economic benefits of the jacket cooling water operated absorption refrigeration unit (ARU) over the exhaust gas operated unit, with annual costs of capital money recovery of 51,870 $/year and 54,836 $/year, respectively. Environmentally, applying an ARU machine during cruising will reduce fuel consumption by 104 ton/year. This, in turn, will result in reducing NOx, SOx, and CO2 emissions with cost-effectiveness of 7.73 $/kg, 20.39 $/kg, and 0.13 $/kg, respectively.
