In this study, diurnal temperature range (DTR – defined as difference between daily maximum and minimum air temperature) in the northern part of Poland in relation to atmospheric circulation types by B. Osuchowska-Klein was investigated. To discover the most characteristic features of geographical distribution of DTR for all distinguished circulation patterns in selected months and the whole year data from 22 IMGW weather stations (from the 1971-1995 period) were used and presented on the maps.

In the paper the influence of atmospheric circulation on selected dangerous weather phenomena in Europę in the year 2000 has been presented. Dangerous weather phenomena include: 30 days with thunderstorms in Poland and 26 examples of such phenomena in Europę (tornados, strong winds, thunderstorms, torrential rains, floods, etc.). The NAO index (North Atlantic Oscillation) served to determine the character of the circulation that influenced the occurrence of catastrophic phenomena in Western, Central and Southern Europę. The J. Lityński classification of circulation types was used to thunderstorms occurring in Poland only. Most catastrophic phenomena during the positive NAO phase (predominance of zonal circulation) happened in Western and Central Europę. During the negative NAO phase (predominance of meridional circulation) the regions of the Mediterranean Basin were more freąuently affected. In the case of thunderstorms in Poland in the year under investigation (2000) their occurrence was related to the inflow of air masses from the northern sector.

The aim of the study was to investigate the level of atmospheric particulate matter in the Sącz Basin depending on circulation conditions. The study used average daily PM10 concentrations measured from December 2006 to November 2016 at the air monitoring reference station in Nowy Sącz, belonging to the Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Krakow. A calendar of circulation types for southern Poland was used as well. The collected data on average daily PM10 concentrations were used to calculate seasonal mean values for spring, summer, autumn and winter for the period from December 2006 to November 2016. Based on the limit value for 24-hour average PM10 concentration (50 µg∙m-3), the frequency of its exceedances (%) was calculated in the analysed time intervals, as well as the frequency of exceedances of the information level (200 µg∙m-3) and alarm level (300 µg∙m-3). Then, particulate concentrations were analysed with respect to types of synoptic conditions. For this purpose, average PM10 concentrations in different types of synoptic conditions and the frequency of these types in each season were calculated. In the decade from 2006 to 2016, the highest PM10 concentrations in Nowy Sącz were observed in the winter and the lowest in the summer. The average daily PM10 concentration was 85 µg∙m-3 for winter, 45 µg∙m-3 for spring, 25 µg∙m-3 for summer, and 49 µg∙m-3 for autumn. The most days in which the acceptable PM10 values were exceeded were recorded in December, January and February (66.7-69.5%). The acceptable, information and alarm levels were most frequently exceeded in 2009, 2010 and 2012, and in February 2012 the information level was exceeded on as many as 30% of days. The research showed a relationship between the PM10 level and the type of accompanying atmospheric circulation. The highest exceedances of the acceptable values were nearly always observed in certain characteristic circulation conditions. Irrespective of the season, the highest PM10 concentrations were found in anticyclonic non-directional types (Ka and Ca) and in the case of advections of air masses from the southern sector (SEa, Sa and SWa). The highest PM10 concentrations were observed in winter, on average 128 µg∙m-3for Ka, 115 µg∙m-3 for SEa and 109 µg∙m-3 for SWa. Lower concentrations accompanied low-pressure systems. In cyclonic conditions, the highest concentrations of particulate matter exceeding the acceptable level were recorded especially in autumn and winter. They were mainly associated with non-directional types (Bc, Cc and X).
Celem pracy było zbadanie poziomu stopnia zapylenia powietrza atmosferycznego w Kotlinie Sądeckiej w zależności od uwarunkowań cyrkulacyjnych. W badaniach wykorzystano średnie dobowe stężenia pyłu zawieszonego PM10 pomierzone w okresie od grudnia 2006 roku do listopada 2016 roku na stacji referencyjnej monitoringu powietrza w Nowym Sączu należącej do Wojewódzkiego Inspektoratu Ochrony Środowiska w Krakowie. Wykorzystano również kalendarz typów cyrkulacji dla obszaru Polski Południowej. Zebrane dane o średnim dobowym stężeniu pyłu PM10 posłużyły do obliczeń wartości średnich sezonowych dla wiosny, lata, jesieni i zimy za okres od grudnia 2006 roku do listopada 2016 roku. Na podstawie dopuszczalnej wartości średniego dobowego (24-godzinnego) stężenia pyłu PM10 (50 µg∙m-3) obliczono w analizowanych przedziałach czasowych częstość jego przekroczeń (%), a także częstość przekroczeń poziomu informowania (200 µg∙m-3) i poziomu alarmowego (300 µg∙m-3). Następnie stężenia pyłu przeanalizowano na tle sytuacji synoptycznych. W tym celu obliczono średnie wartości stężeń pyłu PM10 w poszczególnych typach sytuacji synoptycznych oraz częstości występowania tych typów w analizowanych sezonach kalendarzowych. W badanym dziesięcioleciu 2006-2016 najwyższe wartości stężeń pyłu PM10 obserwowano w Nowym Sączu w sezonie zimowym, a najniższe latem. Średnie dobowe stężenie pyłu PM10 wyniosło dla sezonu zimowego 85 µg∙-3, wiosennego 45 µg∙m-3, letniego 25 µg∙m-3, a jesiennego 49 µg∙m-3. Najwięcej dni, w których wystąpiło przekroczenie wartości dopuszczalnych pyłu PM10 zanotowano w grudniu, styczniu i lutym (66,7-69,5%). Przekroczenia poziomów dopuszczalnych, informowania i alarmowych najczęściej obserwowano w latach 2009, 2010 i 2012, a w lutym 2012 roku aż w 30% dni przekroczone były poziomy informowania. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały zależność pomiędzy stopniem zapylenia pyłem PM10 a występującym typem cyrkulacji atmosferycznej. Najwyższe przekroczenia wartości dopuszczalnych prawie zawsze były obserwowane tylko w pewnych charakterystycznych warunkach cyrkulacyjnych. Niezależnie od pory roku, najwyższe poziomy stężeń pyłu PM10 stwierdzono w sytuacjach antycyklonalnych bezadwekcyjnych (Ka i Ca) oraz przy adwekcjach mas powietrza z sektora południowego (SEa, Sa i SWa). W sezonach zimowych obserwowano najwyższe wartości stężeń PM10, średnio 128 µg∙m-3 dla Ka, 115 µg∙-3 -dla SEa i 109 µg∙-3 dla SWa. Niższe stężenia towarzyszyły pogodzie niżowej. Podczas pogody cyklonalnej najwyższe zarejestrowane stężenia pyłu przekraczające dopuszczalny poziom, występowały szczególnie jesienią i zimą. Były one związane przede wszystkim z sytuacjami bezadwekcyjnymi (Bc, Cc, i X).

W pracy przeanalizowano rozkład typów cyrkulacji atmosfery w regionie bydgosko-toruńskim, w czasie występowania długotrwałej suszy meteorologicznej, w okresie od VIII 1989 r. do IX 1998 r. Termin wystąpienia suszy określono na podstawie miesięcznych wartości standaryzowanego wskaźnika opadów SPI-48, obliczonych na podstawie znormalizowanych 48-miesięcznych sum opadów zmierzonych w Bydgoszczy w latach 1896-2000. Typy cyrkulacji dla regionu bydgosko-toruńskiego zdefiniowano na podstawie katalogu 21 typów sytuacji synoptycznych, według klasyfikacji Niedźwiedzia. Częstość poszczególnych typów cyrkulacji powietrza w okresie badanej suszy meteorologicznej, określono na podstawie kalendarza typów cyrkulacji, sporządzonego na podstawie codziennych dolnych map synoptycznych, publikowanych przez niemiecką służbę meteorologiczną Deutscher Wetterdienst. Klasyfikacje typów cyrkulacji dla poszczególnych dób dokonano na podstawie kierunku adwekcji, rodzaju układu barycznego i kształtu linii izobarycznych. Dla każdego miesiąca w okresie VII 1989-IX 1998 określono sumaryczny rozkład częstości poszczególnych typów cyrkulacji, który obejmował bieżący miesiąc suszy i 47 poprzedzających miesięcy. Stwierdzono, że średnia wartość SPI-48 w okresie VIII 1989-IX 1998 wynosiła -1,5 i była to najbardziej intensywna susza meteorologiczna w XX w. Wydzielono w niej trzy wielomiesięczne okresy najbardziej intensywnej suszy: ekstremalnej i silnej. W czasie trwania suszy najczęściej występowały typy cyrkulacji powietrza: Ka (klin antycyklonalny, rozmyty obszar podwyższonego ciśnienia, oś wału wysokiego ciśnienia) - 18%, Bc (bruzda cyklonalna, rozmyty obszar niskiego ciśnienia lub oś bruzdy niżowej) - 15% i Wc (cyklonalne sytuacje z adwekcją powietrza z zachodu) - 12%. Najrzadziej (w ok. 1%) występowały cyrkulacje z adwekcją powietrza ze wschodu. Stwierdzono istotną zależność między wartościami wskaźnika SPI-48 i wskaźnikami cyrkulacji strefowej W (r = -0,71), cyrkulacji południkowej S (r = 0,79) oraz między SPI-48 i wskaźnikiem cykloniczności C (r = 0,68).
In the article was examined the distribution of types of air circulation in the region of Bydgoszcz-Toruń, during the occurrence of long-term meteorological drought in the period until VIII 1989 to IX 1998. The term of drought was based on monthly values of the standardized precipitation index SPI-48, which were calculated on the base of standardized 48-month total precipitation measured in Bydgoszcz in the years 1896-2000. Types of circulation for the region of Bydgoszcz-Toruń were defined on the basis of a catalog of 21 types of synoptic situation, which was adopted on the basis of classification proposed by NIEDŹWIEDŹ (1981). The frequency of each type of air circulation in the period examined meteorological drought, was defined on the basis of the calendar of circulation types, done on the basis of lower daily weather chart, published by Deutsche Wetter Dienst. Classification of circulation types for individual day was based on the direction of advection, the type and shape of barometric isobaric lines. For each month during the VII 1989-IX 1998 specified cumulative frequency distribution of various types of circulation, which included the current month drought and 47 preceding months. It was found that the average value of the SPI-48 in the period VIII 1989-IX 1998 was -1.5 and it was the most intense meteorological drought in the twentieth century. During the time of drought it was isolated three the periods of the most intense drought: extreme and strong. The most frequent types of air circulation were: Ka - 18% (anticyclonic wedge, sometimes a few unclear centres Or a blur area of high pressure, axis of ridge of high pressure), Bc - 15% (cyclonic trough, blur area of low pressure or axis of cyclonic trough with different direction of air advection and front systems dividing different air masses) and Wc - 12% (synoptic situations with air advection from the west). There was a significant correlation between the values of SPI-48 and the index of the zonal westerny circulation W (r = -0.71), index of southerly circulation S (r = 0.79) and between the SPI-48 and cyclonicity index C (r = 0.68).

W pracy przedstawiono zależności statystyczne pomiędzy frekwencją „charakterystycznych typów pogód” a wskaźnikami cyrkulacji Niedźwiedzia. Za „pogody charakterystyczne” uznano te, które w średniej rocznej strukturze stanów pogód pojawiają się rokrocznie oraz te które obserwuje w średniej wieloletniej strukturze każdego miesiąca. Przeprowadzona analiza wykazuje, że związki między frekwencją „charakterystycznych typów pogody”, a wskaźnikami cyrkulacji atmosferycznej są stosunkowo słabe.
In this work there is presented statistical dependence between characteristic types of weather and Niedźwiedź’s circulation index (as characteristic weather was taken that when in average yearly weather condition structure the specific weather appears every year and the weather that can be observed in multi-yearly structure of each month). The analysis shows that relationship between frequency of „characteristic types of weather” and atmosphere circulation coefficients are relatively weak. Therefore it can be stated that circulation factor has little influence on the origin of specific types of weather. The origin of specific types of weather should be examined along with other factors, for example ice melting in the area of Spitsbergen. 111

The urban heat island (UHI) is very frequent in Warsaw and may exist during every types of atmospheric circulation. The UHI is more frequent during anticyclonic types than during cyclonic ones. Especially intensive UHI is in the anticyclonic types: NE, W and E-SE.

Znaczenie temperatury minimalnej powietrza dla środowiska przyrodniczego i działalności człowieka jest niezmiernie ważne. Niniejsza praca przedstawia aspekty związane ze zmiennością dobowej temperatury minimalnej powietrza w okresie zimowym (XII-II) w Kotlinie Żywieckiej, w świetle sytuacji synoptycznych. Opracowanie bazuje na wynikach badań przeprowadzonych w jednym punkcie węzłowym pochodzącym z bazy CarpatClim, zlokalizowanym w dnie Kotliny Żywieckiej za okres 1961-2010. Studium zostało uzupełnione kompleksową analizą warunków cyrkulacyjnych i ich zmiennością czasową w ciągu 50-lecia. W tym celu zastosowano klasyfikację typów cyrkulacji atmosferycznej Niedźwiedzia (1981) dla dorzecza górnej Wisły. Za ekstremalne zjawisko termiczne uznano średnią temperaturę minimalną powietrza przekraczającą wartość progową 90 i 95 percentyla. Związki pomiędzy ekstremalnymi wartościami temperatury powietrza a typami cyrkulacji atmosferycznej rozpatrzono poprzez analizę częstości wystąpienia wartości ekstremalnych oraz ich warunkowego wystąpienia w danym typie cyrkulacji atmosferycznej.
Air minimum temperature is very important for the natural environment and human activity. This paper presents certain aspects related to the variability of daily minimum temperature of air in the winter (XII, I, II) in the Zywiec Valley, in relation to the synoptic situation in the valley. The analysis is based on the results of research carried out at one point node (the grid) obtained from the base Carpat Clim database. The node is located at the bottom of the Zywiec Valley in the period 1961-2010. The study was complemented with a comprehensive analysis of local conditions for atmospheric circulation and temporal variability over a 50 years period. For this purpose, the classification of types of atmospheric circulation  (Niedźwiedź 1981) was used for the upper Vistula river basin. Extreme temperatures included an average minimum temperature of air exceeding the 90th and 95th percentile. The relationship between the extremes of air temperature and atmospheric circulation types was examined by analyzing the frequency of occurrence of extreme values and their conditional occurrence in each particular type of atmospheric circulation.

Praca omawia najważniejsze zmiany jakie zachodziły w cyrkulacji atmosfery nad Spitsbergenem w latach 1950–2006. Po analizie zmienności typów i wskaźników cyrkulacji Niedźwiedzia stwierdzono wyraźny wzrost wartości wskaźnika cyrkulacji zachodniej (zwłaszcza latem i zimą) i południowej (głównie zimą i latem) oraz wzrost aktywności niżów we wszystkich porach roku, a zwłaszcza w zimie. Gwałtowny wzrost intensywności cyrkulacji południowej, który wystąpił w styczniu i kwietniu 2006 r. zaznaczył się dużymi anomaliami termicznymi (12.4–12.6K powyżej średniej wieloletniej). Być może rok 2006 stanie się najcieplejszym w całym okresie obserwacji instrumentalnych temperatury na Spitsbergenie.
The study presents variability of 21 circulation types and simple circulation indices above Spitsbergen for the period December 1950 – September 2006, based on original calendar of synoptic divided from the synoptic maps (Niedźwiedź 1992, 1997a). Classification of circulation types, based on method of H.H. Lamb (1972), used the direction of airflow (gradient wind) and pressure pattern (a – anticyclonic, c – cyclonic) as the main elements. After calculation of synoptic types frequencies the further results have been obtained using the simple circulation indices: W – westerly, zonal index, S – southerly – meridional index, C – cyclonicity index, as proposed by R. Murray and R. Lewis (1966) with some modifications (Niedźwiedź 1997b, 2001). The anticyclonic wedge (Ka – 10.5%) was the most frequent synoptic situation in the Spitsbergen (Table 1). The second one is circulation type Ec (9.9%) and NEc (8.7%). Weather and climate of Spitsbergen was modelled by the intense cyclonic activity during 56% of the days in a year (Fig. 1). The largest frequency of cyclonic types was noticed in November (67%). For May was typical the maximum frequency of the high pressure systems (59.7%). The annual variability of different airflows above Spitsbergen is presented on the Figures 2–5. The negative value of W index is typical for Spitsbergen, according to great frequency of eastern airflow (Table 2, Fig. 6). The great intensity of eastern airflow was observed from October to April, the weakest – during summer months. For the last 56 years was observed the increased tendency of index W. The most intense of southerly circulation index S was noticed on 1984–1994 (Table 3, Fig. 7). Positive trend was observed for winter, spring and summer. Only in autumn the tendency of S index was negative. For the Spitsbergen is typical predomination of cyclonic patterns (annual value of index C is +60), with highest values of index C from September to March (Table 4, Fig. 8). Only in May index C is negative (–10) thanks to great activity of anticyclones. For the last 56 years was observed the increasing activity of cyclonic weather above the Spitsbergen. For the last three years (2004–2006) was typical the concentration of extreme intensity of the particular forms of circulation, mainly in southerly one.

Opracowanie przedstawia kierunki najważniejszych badań polskich klimatologów w zakresie klimatologii synoptycznej, której zadaniem jest badanie różnych form cyrkulacji atmosfery oraz ich wpływu na warunki klimatyczne. Początki rozwoju tego działu klimatologii w Polsce sięgają początku XX wieku. Natomiast intensywny rozwój badań nastąpił po II wojnie światowej. W Polsce do tych badań stosowane były następujące klasyfikacje typów cyrkulacji: liczbowa klasyfikacja typów cyrkulacji i typów pogody J. Lityńskiego (1962, 1969), subiektywna typologia Osuchowskiej-Klein (1973, 1991), automatyczna klasyfikacja typów cyrkulacji dla półkuli północnej Ustrnula (1997) oraz klasyfikacja Piotrowskiego (2009). Była też używana makroskalowa klasyfikacja „Grosswetterlagen” wg Hessa i Brezowsky’ego (1952, 1977) dla Europy Środkowej. Do typologii regionalnych należy kalendarz typów cyrkulacji dla Polski południowej (Niedźwiedź 1981), dla regionu lubelskiego (Bartoszek 2015) oraz dla obszaru Sudetów (Ojrzyńska 2012). Wśród wskaźników cyrkulacji stosowano NAO, makrotypy cyrkulacji środkowotroposferycznej (poziom 500 hPa) opracowane przez meteorologów rosyjskich Wangenheima (1935, 1946) i Girsa (1964, 1981), indeksy cyrkulacji strefowej Ws i południkowej Wp Lityńskiego (1969) oraz wskaźnik Niedźwiedzia (1981, 2019): wskaźnik cyrkulacji zachodniej – Wi, cyrkulacji południowej – Si oraz cykloniczności – Ci. Szereg prac dotyczy występowania mas powietrznych i frontów atmosferycznych. Badano wpływ cyrkulacji atmosfery na wybrane elementy klimatu. Najwięcej opracowań dotyczy genezy dużych opadów atmosferycznych wywołujących powodzie.
This paper presents most important directions of research that were undertaken by polish climatologist in the field of synoptic climatology which analyses various forms of atmospheric circulation and their impact on climate. Initial research in the field of synoptic climatology dates back in early 20th century while fast development of the research took place after the II World War. Several classification of circulation types constituted the basis of polish synoptic climatology, including quantitative classification of circulation types and weather types by Lityński (1962, 1969), subjective typology by Osuchowska-Klein (1973, 1991), automatic classification of circulation types for Norther Hemisphere by Ustrnul (1997) and objective classification by Piotrowski (2009). „Grosswetterlagen” macroscale classification after Hess and Brezowsky (1952, 1977) for Central Europe was also used. Regional typologies include: the calendar of circulation types for Southern Poland (Niedźwiedź 1981), Lublin region (Bartoszek 2015) and for the Sudetes (Ojrzyńska 2012). The most frequently used circulation indices included: NAO, macro types of mid-tropospheric circulation developed by Russian meteorologists Wangenheim (1935, 1946) and Girs (1964, 1981), zonal Ws and meridional Wp circulation indices by Lityński (1969) and circulation indices by Niedźwiedź (1981, 2019): zonal circulation index – Wi, meridional circulation index – Si and cyclonicity index – Ci. A lot of works concerned air masses and atmospheric fronts. The research was undertaken on the influence of atmospheric circulation on selected climate elements. Most studies concerned the origin of heavy precipitation causing floods.

The paper assesses the relationship between atmospheric circulation and seasonal air temperature in the Lublin region from 1951 to 2010. It also specifies the relations between the occurrence of extremely warm and cool seasons, and anomalies of sea level pressure (SLP) in the Atlantic European region. For this purpose, the classification of circulation types over East-Central Europe as well as mean seasonal air temperature values from 5 meteorological stations located in the area of research or in the vicinity were used. The strongest influence of atmospheric circulation on thermal conditions in the Lublin region was noticed in the winter season, and the weakest in the spring months. The zonal circulation played an important role for seasonal air temperature both in winter and in summer, whereas meridional air flow in autumn. Compared to air flow direction, the character of atmospheric circulation, expressed by anticyclonic, cyclonic and transitional circulation, had a significantly weak influence on the seasonal air temperature. Moreover, strong relationship between anomalies of sea level pressure in the Atlantic European region and strong positive or negative deviations of seasonal air temperature in the Lublin region were found primarily during winter and summer seasons.
W pracy dokonano oceny relacji między cyrkulacją atmosferyczną a sezonową temperaturą powietrza na Lubelszczyźnie w latach 1951-2010. Ponadto określono związki między występowaniem na tym obszarze ekstremalnie ciepłych i chłodnych pór roku z anomaliami ciśnienia atmosferycznego w regionie atlantycko-europejskim. Do tego celu wykorzystano klasyfikację typów cyrkulacji dla obszaru Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej oraz uśrednione sezonowe wartości temperatury powietrza, które pochodziły z 5 stacji meteorologicznych zlokalizowanych na obszarze badań lub w jego sąsiedztwie. Największy wpływ cyrkulacji powietrza na warunki termiczne na obszarze Lubelszczyzny dotyczył okresu zimowego, a najmniejszy wiosny. Zarówno w zimie, jak i latem, istotną rolę wykazywał strefowy przepływ powietrza, natomiast jesienią – cyrkulacja południkowa. W porównaniu do kierunku napływu powietrza, wyraźnie mniejszy wpływ na zmienność sezonowej temperatury powietrza wyrażał antycyklonalny, cyklonalny lub pośredni charakter cyrkulacji atmosferycznej. Istotny związek anomalii ciśnienia ze znacznymi dodatnimi lub ujemnymi odchyleniami temperatury powietrza od normy stwierdzono przede wszystkim w przypadku sezonów zimowych i letnich.

Omówiono zależności elementów meteorologicznych od cyrkulacji atmosferycznej w ujęciu klimatologii kompleksowej. Do tego celu wykorzystano dane z Polskiej Stacji Polarnej w Hornsundzie z lat 1991-2000 oraz uproszczony kalendarz typów cyrkulacji dla Spitsbergenu. Najczęściej występujące cyklonalne masy powietrza ze wschodu i południowego wschodu odpowiadały za najwyższą frekwencję dni ciepłych z silnym wiatrem i opadem. Wpływ oceanu przejawiał się znacznymi frekwencjami pogód ciepłych z wysoką wilgotnością i opadem przy cyrkulacji cyklonalnej z południa i południowego zachodu.
This paper describes influence of air masses advection on meteorological elements in Hornsund (SW Spitsbergen) from 1991 to 2000. Air temperature, wind speed, relative humidity and precipitation occurrence were considered. First three variables were classified as a system of three classes. First class consists of elements below 25% percentile (under normal), third contains values above 75% percentile (above normal). Second class contains values between first and third threshold values (normal). Precipitation was classified using two-class system which describes if it occurs or not. All statistics are presented for three periods. First for all, for year term, next for polar day (24th April to 18th September) and in the end for polar night (31st October to 11th February). Reduced classification of circulation types by Niedźwiedź (2004) was used as a circulation index. Warm days (3WFR) with strong wind (T3FR) and precipitation occurrence (TWF1) exhibited the highest frequency in cyclonic E+SE situation for whole year period. High humidity (TW3R) dominated with cyclonic circulation from S+SW. Cold weather (1WFR) with low humidity (TW1R) was characteristic for N+NE advection, both cyclonic and anticyclonic. Central high situation (Ca+Ka) and also cyclonic advection from N+NE were typical for days with weak wind (T1FR) and no precipitation (TWF0). During polar day warm days (3WFR) had the highest occurrence in cyclonic advection from E+SE and S+SW. The highest frequency of strong wind days was noted with advection from E+SE, in both kind of air masses. High humidity (TW3R) weather was formed under the influence of cyclonic oceanic air masses from S+SW. Precipitation occurrence (TWF1) was mostly connected with situation Cc+Bc but in S+SWc situation accounted for almost 100% days. Cold days (1WFR) with weak wind (T1FR), low humidity (TW1R) and without precipitation were characteristic for situation with the highest frequency during polar day (Ca+Ka). During polar night warm days (3WFR) with high humidity (TW3R) had the highest frequency in cyclonic S+SW advection. Situation E+SEc was typical for days with strong wind (T3FR) and precipitation (TWF1). There weren't any days without precipitation occurrence at S+SWc advection. Cold days (1WFR) with weak wind (T1FR), low humidity (TW1R) and without precipitation were determined with the lowest frequency by cyclonic advection from N+NE.

Praca omawia wpływ zmian frekwencji „pacyficzno-amerykańskich” makrotypów cyrkulacji środkowotroposferycznej Wangengejma-Girsa na kształtowanie się temperatury powietrza na obszarze północnej Kanady i Alaski (> 60°N). Związki te analizowano w przekrojach miesięcznych i rocznych, w latach 1986-2010. Stwierdzono występowanie na ogół słabych związków, wykazujących dodatkowo wyraźne zróżnicowanie sezo-nowe i regionalne. Te na ogół słabe w przekrojach miesięcznych związki wynikają z niewielkiego zróżnicowania kierunków adwekcji stowarzyszonych z występowaniem poszczególnych makrotypów. Na obszarze leżącym na E od 125°W dla każdego z występujących makrotypów charakterystyczna jest dominacja napływów z północy. Związki temperatury rocznej z cyrkulacją środkowotroposferyczną różnicują się w zależności od rozmiarów zmian temperatury. W badanym okresie na obszarze położonym na W od 125°W temperatura roczna nie wykazuje statystycznie istotnego trendu (+0,022(š0,020)°Cźrok-1), a na E od tej długości występuje silny i istotny trend (+0,135(š0,025)°Cźrok-1). Na całym obszarze zmiany temperatury rocznej objaśnia zmienność frekwencji makro-typu Z w styczniu, przy czym na obszarze na W od 125°W objaśnienie to jest niewielkie (~31% zmienności), na E od 125°W zmienność frekwencji tego makrotypu objaśnia ~49% rocznej wariancji temperatury rocznej. W rów-naniu regresji wielokrotnej, której zmiennymi niezależnymi są frekwencje makrotypu Z w styczniu oraz makrotypu M1 w lipcu i wrześniu, zmienność frekwencji wymienionych makrotypów objaśnia 69% wariancji temperatury rocznej, jaka występuje na wschód od 125°W. Analiza wykazuje, że wzrost temperatury na całym obszarze jest związany z ujemnym trendem występującym we frekwencji makrotypu Z w styczniu i zastępowaniem go przez makrotyp M2, a na środkowej i wschodniej części obszaru dodatkowo z dodatnim trendem frekwencji makrotypu M1 w lipcu i wrześniu. Spadek frekwencji makrotypu Z w styczniu nie jest monotoniczny, gwałtowny spadek frekwencji tego makrotypu zaznaczył się w latach 1995-1996. Spadkowi frekwencji tego makrotypu odpowiada wzrost temperatury powietrza na wschód od 125°W o 2 deg. Najbardziej prawdopodobną przyczyną tej zmiany cyrkulacji środkowotroposfe-rycznej jest występujący w tym samym czasie spadek powierzchni lodów morskich na Zatoce Baffina. Ogólnie, zmiany temperatury rocznej na obszarze Alaski i północnej Kanady w latach 1986-2010 są niemal całkowicie objaśnione przez zachodzące w tym samym czasie zmiany cyrkulacji środkowotroposferycznej.
The paper discusses the influence of the frequency of "Pacific-American" Wangengejma-Girs macro-types of mid-tropospheric circulation on the air temperature in the area of northern Canada and Alaska (> 60°N). These correlations were analyzed monthly and annually, the period of analysis covered the years of 1986-2010. Generally weak correlations were found which also showed clear seasonal and regional variations. Generally weak links between the monthly frequency of macro-types and the air temperature result from a slight variation in directions of advection above the described area associated with the occurrence of the particular macro-types. In the area located to the E of 125°W the dominance of the inflows from the north is characteristic for each of the observed macro-types. Relationships of annual temperature with the mid-tropospheric circulation vary depending on the temperature changes in the analyzed area. In the area located W of 125° annual temperature during the examined period does not show a statistically significant trend (0.022 (š 0.020)°Cź year-1), E of this longitude there is a strong and significant trend (0.135 (š 0.025)°Cźyear-1). Changeability in the frequency of the macro-type Z in January explains the changes in the annual temperature in the entire area but in the area W of 125°W the explanation is small (~31% of the variation), in the area E of 125°W the changeability in the frequency of that macro-type explains ~49% of the annual variation of annual temperature. In the multiple regression equation where the frequencies of the macro-type Z in January and the macro-type M1 in July and September are the independent variables, the variability of frequency of the said macro-types explains 69% of the annual temperature variation which is observed east of 125°W. The analysis shows that the temperature rise in the whole area is associated with a negative trend in the frequency of the macro-type Z in January and its replacement by the macro-type M2, and in the central and eastern part of the area it is also associated with the positive trend in the frequency of the macro-type M1 in July and September. The decrease in the frequency of the macro-type Z in January is not monotonic, the sudden drop in the frequency of this macro-type was observed in 1995-1996. The decrease in the frequency of this macro-type is accompanied by the visible increase in the air temperature by 2 degrees E of 125° at the same time. The most likely cause of this change in the mid-tropospheric circulation is, the observed at the same time, decrease in sea ice in the Baffin Bay. Generally, the changes in the annual tempe-rature in the region of Alaska and Northern Canada in the years 1986-2010 are almost entirely explained by the changes in the mid-tropospheric circulation observed at the same time.
