Opis:
The essay deals with the status of the sender in rock music. The rock music sender is invariably a collective entity (the musicians, the producer, the lyricist, the cover sleeve designer). A work of art in rock music (a song, an album) is always the sum total of various creative personalities as well as the end result of numerous compromises. In effect, it is often difficult to pinpoint a single intention behind a given message, which is why interpretations of such a message should disregard any commentary from the artists in question. The author draws an analogy between the rock music sender and the subject of literary creativity. Another characteristic of the rock music sender consists in their being both the "author" and the "performer" of the works within their repertoire (inasmuch as rock music cancels the oppositon: score/performance).

W niniejszym artykule wiersz W. B. Yeatsa „Krew i księżyc” zostanie poddany analizie w celu ukazania, w jaki sposób Yeats poszukiwał wiedzy (w sensie metafizycznym i okultystycznym) w obszarze swoich wierszy symbolicznych, do których z pewnością należy „Krew i księżyc” .

Opis:
The author investigates the unique aesthetic program of George Crumb, one of the most important contemporary American composers. Crumb certainly occupies a unique place in the music of 20th century, not only because of his cultural background, or originality of artistic expression, but first of all, due to the presence of most dilemmas of the contemporary culture in his music. The question about the form of a relationship between human beings and nature at the turn of 20th/2ist century is one of them. In his artistic output Crumb remains an advocate of a concept of music which, as the most spiritual and magical of all arts, derives from deep reserves of human psyche on the one hand and from primal forces of nature, on the other one. The analytical aspects of the paper concern the problems of onomatopoeic imitation of the sounds of birds and a whale, symbolic allusions to the other composers (Debussy, Mahler), the concept of “larger rhythms of nature”, the phenomenon of echo and its forms in Crumb’s music, his search of natural pre-sounds of music (resulting in using non-traditional instruments), the idea of distant music, etc. Especially three pieces: An Idyll of the Misbegotten, Vox balaenae and Echoes of Time and the River are considered as the most characteristic.

The moon is one of the basic motives in the output of K.I. Gałczyński and a designation animated by him the most frequently – in the poet’s lyrics appeared 97 animisations of the moon. Using them the moon is created as a human being: it has a human appearance, it behaviours like a man, it has a human psyche and human interests, it plays various social roles. The type of animisation used the most frequently is the anthropomorphisation and the considerably rarer are anthropopaties, animisations and animalisations. The density degree of the moon animisations in the poems is low (41,9), same as the degree of their frequency (45,3). The majority of samples of the stylistic fi gure plays the poetic function or imparts dynamism to the lyric picture, the other are used for the expressive and humoristic purposes.

The Hymn to Selene
Opis:
Hymn to Selene is one of 87 so-called Orphic hymns. Its addressee is goddess of the Moon, who is defined in the hymn both by the name Selene and Mene. Conducting the literary analysis of the above-mentioned hymn, we can notice that it consists of the invocation addressed to the goddess, many epithets revealing the greatness of the divinity and the prayer ending which in its contents resembles the invocation. It is worth mentioning that the basic part of the hymn includes some kind of litany catalogue of epithets by means of which the Hymn’s Author defines and describes the goddess Selene. The literary analysis of the respective epithets which are present in the Hymn to Selene, allows to state that the picture of the goddess of the Moon included in it possesses very classic, known to us from mythology, features and also clearly seen orphic features. Undoubtedly, dual sexuality that the goddess Selene was attributed with in verse 4 is such a feature. The phrase ϑῆλυς τε καὶ ἄρσην is to be found in this verse. In this context we have the direct reference to the primeval orphic godhead, Fanes, who was a two-gender god. Thus, Selene is perceived as one of hypostasis of one and the only one divine creature which can be defined as “One”. Basing on the results of the literary analysis, we can notice that the goddess Selene, who was not particularly popular with the ancient Greeks, was somehow re-discovered by Orphics, who saw her beauty through the person of the Hymn’s Author. Due to the fact that Selene was the goddess of the Moon by the light of which the orphic usually practiced their own rituals, certainly occupied much space in the orphic cult.

Opis:
A large Prologue to the second part of the Face of the Moon by Teodor Parnicki shows a mechanism of a complicated bureaucratic‑counterintelligence in Byzantium in the middle of the fifth century. The task of agents (recruited among unemployed rhetoricians) is to make the most precise reports, however, as Tomasz Burek, a critic, has noticed, they do not follow the course of events. After years, similar remarks were made by Ryszard Koziołek in his work devoted to Parnicki’s trilogy. Referring to these remarks, the author of the article claims that a dynamic relation between an event and word in Parnicki’s novel is similar to a „source difference” typical of a language of deconstruction. Thus, one can speak of analogies between Parnicki’s prose from the 1960s and Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction deriving from the criticism of phenomenology at the same time. Eventually, the history taking place seems to be an event muddle in Parnicki’s works, around which something happens, though, we cannot definitely say what happens in fact. Reality, „ungraspable and unembraceable” becomes marked with stereotypical female features, taking on the status of an unapproachable object of desire. At the same time, it is being constantly disciplined by écriture masculine, an institutionalised discourse of a patriarchal culture while a monstrous SCHOLA AGENTORUM from the Prologue to Parnicki’s novel may successfully be considered a hyperbole of such a discourse. Maksymian, the main protagonist, chooses another discourse which is confronted with a Nietzschean principle of vita femina.

Opis:
The elements of symbiosis between a literary work and fable are clearly reflected in the structure of Herbert George Wells short story The Beautiful Suit that was published originally as A Moonlight Fable. The distinct allusion of the author about the title as well as the fact of two titles indicates similarity to folkloristic genre and gives posibility to perceive the story in two ways: literary work and fable. The typical semantics of folkloristic works is introduced by a number of constant formulas and motifs. They are conditioned by the function of moonlight topos that creates the opposition man – moon. The determining character of this antithesis implies the main division of the text and provides the paradigmatic sequence man – earth – mortal life versus moon – heaven – eternity that constitutes the fundamental element to model the basic relationships of the space and time structure. As well as in the sources of mythology and folklore the motif of the moon in the Wells’s short story introduces the aspect of duality of the depicted world, has an allegorical effect on the protagonist’s fate that touches the secret of existence and happiness.

The article deals with the main points of the anthropological theory presented in the work of a baroque encyclopedist Wojciech Tylkowski which is entitled Uczone rozmowy [Learned Conversations] (1692). This theory combined the elements of theology, philosophy, science and common knowledge. It was presented as scientia curiosa, i.e. a convention which was used during the baroque era to popularize science. The most important aspects of the theory are: the concept of the human soul, four temperaments, the structure and operation of sense organs, the reasons for monstrous births, origins and manifestations of insanity, care of a guardian angel for a man, speculations about the idea of plurality of worlds and the possibility of people living on the Moon.

Opis:
K. Balmont the representative of Russian symbolism had closer and deeper ties with the literature and culture of Poland, than other poets of the Russian “Silver age”. He was filled with Polishness. He had the talent to change himself completely, he could feel spiritual kinship with Polish people. He did much to create an attractive image of it in the eyes of Russian readers. Balmont translated his contemporaries – J. Kasprowicz, B. Leśmian, M. Jastrun, S. Wyspiański. He had always admired Polish romantics. He included fragment of their works into his essays with his own comments. It became a great event, when a collection of three dramatic plays by J. J. Słowacki “Balladyna”, “Lilla Veneda”, “Helion‑Eolion” (a fragment from “Samuel Zborowski”) came out in the poetic translation of Balmont. The Russian poet had often glorified in his verse and lyrical prose the Polish speech, the Polish heart, the musical genius of Chopin, the great and heroic poetry of Polish exiles that revealed the tragic fate of the enslaved Poland. Balmont’s enthusiasm about Polish culture easily infected other Russian poets – A. Bely, A. Blok. From childhood Balmont saw in his family “respect for Poland and its language”. His autobiographical novel “Under the New Moon” (1923) in many ways makes it clear how the poet got inspired with love for Poland, began to feel great sympathy for it’s people. Balmont’s mother roused his interest to poetry and music. She was an outstanding personality, wilful, artistically talented. She often played Chopin and knew Polish very well. Her character is depicted with great psychological insight. With great delicacy Balmont reveals the family secret – the story of his mother’s passionate love for a Pole – an engineer who often visited them and was friends with his mother and father. The Pole was handsome, charming, witty and talkative. His father had to tolerate the rivalry for many years. Frequent talks of Balmont – an adolescent and then a young man – with the Pole about the most urgent topical problems had a profound influence upon the views and inclinations of the future poet. The novel about a very special family atmosphere and the poet’s growing creative maturity shows in a most poetical manner the way the talented poet, translator and critic first acquired his interest for Polish culture, music, “captivating Polish speech”.

The objective of this research was to find a more effective method for the teaching of history to Chinese students studying in South Korean universities. Questionnaire surveys and interviews were conducted to investigate those students’ level of knowledge and perceptions of Korean history. Then, in history classes, four teaching methods (comparative-historical, audiovisual, history and language, and rote memorization) were applied over two weeks. Before the treatment, Chinese students said that they liked the audiovisual teaching method the most, but after taking the classes, they preferred the teaching method comparing Korean and Chinese histories. Besides the finding that the comparative method was the most popular, the responses also showed that it was the most effective one in teaching history to Chinese students.

In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles and submicron-sized granules were synthesized by a hydrothermal method and spray pyrolysis, respectively. Submicron-sized granules were dispersed into the nano-sized TiO2 layer to improve the light conversion efficiency. Granules showed better light scattering, but lower in terms of the dye-loading quantity and recombination resistance compared with nanoparticles. Consequently, the nano-sized TiO2 layer had higher cell efficiency than the granulized TiO2 layer. When dispersed granules into the nanoparticle layer, the light scattering was enhanced without the loss of dye-loading quantities. The dispersion of granulized TiO2 led to increase the cell efficiency up to 6.51%, which was about 5.2 % higher than that of the electrode consisting of only TiO2 nanoparticles. Finally, the optimal hydrothermal temperature and dispersing quantity of granules were found to be 200°C and 20 wt%, respectively.

Previous interpretations of the whole calculation presented all the fractions as related to the illuminated surface of the mooon in its waxing and waning phase. Such explanations have to be abandoned. The calculation denotes periods of moon visibility on the sky during the day and during the night, while only one column refers to the amount of light assigned to the surface of the moon. Thus the whole calculation should be considered as an attempt to present in a schematic way the time of moon visibility, and as an attempt to base time computus on the movement of the moon.

Taking the subject of “victorious prayer”, author shows in detail the literary structure of the pericope Josh 10:1-27, and draws attention that the central point of the story is verse 14a: “There was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man”. These words, according to the author, are important hagiograph’s indication for the proper reading of the entire pericope’s message. After analyzing the main literary issue of the story, the article presents hallmarks and fruits of the “victorious prayer” of Joshua. As motivated by trust, backed by commitment and consistent with God’s plan, resulted in a deepening Joshua’s ties with the Lord, strengthen authority both of them and complete victory over a coalition of Canaanite kings. Author suggests that “the day of Joshua” described in Josh 10:1-27, later became for the biblical authors, a kind of model using to description of the “day of the Lord”. Recognizing the pericope as “praeparatio evangelica remota”, author encourages to typological interpretation of the Book of Joshua.
