Positive psychology has been introduced to the applied linguistics literature with the broad goal of improving the experience of language learners and teachers through a variety of interventions (MacIntyre & Mercer, 2014; Gabryś-Barker & Gałajda, 2016). “The aim of positive psychology is to catalyze a change in psychology from preoccupation only with repairing the worst things in life to also building the best qualities in life” (Seligman &Csikszentmihalyi, 2000, p. 5). One significant contribution of this young field has been a series of empirically-tested positive psychology interventions (PPIs) that have been shown to increase positive emotion, reduce distress, and/or improve well-being (Seligman, Steen, Park, & Peterson, 2005; Sin & Lyubormirsky, 2009). In the present research, we examine one application of a PPI involving a focus on using character strengths as a way to address language anxiety. Through a case study analysis, we demonstrate the ways that this intervention was beneficial for the student.

The study evaluated the effectiveness of the intervention for families raising children with autism aimed to improve the family’s quality of life, strengthen its capacity, and expand rights and opportunities. The experimental intervention was implemented at the Educational and Rehabilitation Center for Children with Autism “Trust” (Lviv, Ukraine). It had one experimental group (30 people) and two control groups (60 people). The effectiveness and duration of the intervention effects were assessed using a before/after study design with the same questionnaire. Findings from the survey evidence the effectiveness of the intervention, in particular, for expanding the family’s capabilities, its capacity, improving relationships in family subsystems, increasing parental competence, and improving well-being. Limitations of the intervention are discussed.

In this paper, we will discuss three semantically distinct scope assignment strategies: traditional movement strategy, polyadic approach, and continuation-based approach. Since generalized quantifiers on a set X are elements of C(X), which is the value of the continuation monad C on X, quantifier phrases are interpreted as C-computations, in all three approaches. The main goal of this paper is to relate the three strategies to the computational machinery connected to the monad C (strength and derived operations). As will be shown, both the polyadic approach and the continuation-based approach make heavy use of monad constructs. In the traditional movement strategy, monad constructs are not used but we still need them to explain how the three strategies are related and what can be expected of them with regard to handling scopal ambiguities in simple sentences.

The isometric strength profiles of male and female paraplegics were determined for pull and push strengths in the normal, maximum, and extreme working reach envelopes. A computerized isometric strength measurement system was designed and constructed for the purpose. The strongest pull location was at extreme reach vertically above the shoulder and the strength values for males and females were 473 and 318 newtons (N), respectively. The strongest push location was at maximum reach, at vertical ($) angle of 45° and at horizontal (6) angle of 45° for males and at 0° for women and the strength values were 235 and 172 N, respectively. The nature of the strength profiles was found to be similar for both the sexes. The pull and push strengths of the female were 77 and 68% that of the male, respectively.

The study focuses on the characteristics of strengths-based model in the form of psychological and social resources of the disabled student. The analysis takes into consideration the effects of interpersonal relations in the academic context, as well as the outcomes of the disabled student support system implemented at Siedlce University. The study is based on the assumption that assistance and support elements of the programme are pivotal for the disabled student’s sense of support of the disabled student. According to the premises of positive psychology, the characteristics that constitute the strengths of an individual were singled out. The respondents, who were Siedlce University students, were asked to assess the increase of their competences, the senseof development of potential, as well as the feeling of fulfilment and control over their own lives. The sum of these elements was treated as the total assessment of the psychological and social resources that students have at their disposal. To determine statistically significant differences between the assessment of particular features of the model in the perception of the disabled and able-bodied student, a linear regression analysis and a one-factor analysis of variance were carried out. It was found that students with disabilities obtained higher means with regard to the sense of increase in competence and the feeling of support than those without disabilities, where these differences were statistically significant. The able-bodied respondents significantly assessed the feeling of control over their own lives more than the disabled students. As far as the sense of development of their own potential and the feeling of fulfilment are concerned, the means for both respondent groups did not differ statistically significantly. The evaluation of the inclusion model, i.e. psychological and social resources, was identified to be at the same level in both groups. On the basis of the linear regression analysis, it could be stated that all features of the strengths-based model correlate strongly positively with the feeling of received support. The results of the present study point to the conclusion that the inclusive model integrating disabled students with their able peers, academic teachers, and administration personnel, which has been applied at Siedlce University (Poland) for over 50 years, brings certain positive effects not only for the disabled student but also for the one without any deficits.
W badaniach uwzględniono cechy modelu mocnych stron – w postaci zasobów psychospołecznych studentów, w tym osób z niepełnosprawnością. W analizie zwrócono uwagę na skutki oddziaływań interpersonalnych na studentów z niepełnosprawnością w ramach całego systemu wspomagającego, funkcjonującego w Uniwersytecie Przyrodniczo-Humanistycznym w Siedlcach (dalej: Uczelnia). Przyjęto założenie, że elementy pomocowe i wspomagające studentów zależą od odczuwanego przez niego wsparcia Następnie, zgodnie z koncepcją psychologii pozytywnej, wyodrębniono te cechy, które stanowią o mocnych stronach jednostki. Zaproponowano studentowi ocenę wzrostu własnych kompetencji, poczucia: rozwoju potencjałów, spełnienia i kontroli nad własnym życiem. Elementy te poprzez zsumowanie określono jako model mocnych stron. Stanowi on ocenę zasobów psychospołecznych, jakimi dysponuje jednostka. Przeprowadzono analizę regresji liniowej oraz test jednoczynnikowej analizy wariancji, w celu zaobserwowania istotnych różnic w percypowaniu poszczególnych cech modelu przez studenta z niepełnosprawnością i – pozbawionego deficytów. Studenci z niepełnosprawnościami uzyskali istotnie statystycznie wyższą średnią w aspekcie poczucia wzrostu kompetencji i poczucia wsparcia niż studenci nieprzejawiający deficytów. Studenci, którzy są sprawni i nie przejawiają żadnych deficytów statystycznie istotnie wyżej ocenili kontrolę nad własnym życiem niż studenci z niepełnosprawnościami. W odniesieniu do poczucia rozwoju własnego potencjału oraz poczucia spełnienia średnie w obydwu grupach nie różniły się od siebie istotnie statystycznie. Ocena modelu włączającego, czyli zasobów psychospołecznych, została zidentyfikowana na jednakowym poziomie w obydwu grupach. Na podstawie regresji liniowej można stwierdzić ze wszystkie cechy modelu mocnych stron silnie, dodatnio korelują z poczuciem wsparcia. Wyniki badań pozwalają na przypuszczenie, że proponowany w Uniwersytecie Przyrodniczo-Humanistycznym w Siedlcach od prawie 30 lat model kształcenia włączającego, integrujący studenta z niepełnosprawnością z rówieśnikami, wykładowcami oraz pracownikami administracyjnymi, przynosi określone pozytywne skutki nie tylko studentom z niepełnosprawnościami, ale także studentom nieprzejawiającym deficytów.

Celem artykułu jest omówienie najważniejszych mocnych i słabych stron przetwórstwa ekologicznych surowców żywnościowych. Podstawą analizy były wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród 75 przetwórców ekologicznych. Stwierdzono, że podjęcie przetwórstwa ekologicznego jest atutem i silną stroną badanych jednostek z uwagi na rosnący i niezaspokojony popyt na jego produkty. Natomiast słabą stroną przetwórstwa jest niski poziom produkcji wynikający z ograniczeń po stronie zaopatrzenia w surowce pochodzące z upraw ekologicznych oraz rozproszenie dostawców. Tworzenie grup producenckich po stronie podażowej oraz innych powiązań kooperacyjnych może w przyszłości przyczynić się do osłabienia wskazanych ograniczeń i lepszego wykorzystania potencjału tkwiącego w rolnictwie ekologicznym jako dostawcy surowców dla przetwórstwa.
The aim of the paper was to discuss the main strengths and weaknesses of organic food raw material processing. The grounds for the analysis were results of inquiry research conducted among 75 organic processors. It was found that undertaking the organic processing is an advantage and strength in the surveyed enterprises in relation to increasing and unsatisfied demand on their products. However, a weakness of the processing is a low level of production resulting from barriers on the organic farming raw material supply side as well as dispersion of suppliers. Organisation of producers’ groups on the supply side and other cooperative links may in future cause reduction of the indicated barriers and better utilization of the potential of organic agriculture as a supplier of raw materials for processing.

Background: Nurses displayed low levels of subjective well-being and high turnover intention. How to enhance the subjective well-being and decrease the turnover rate of nurses is of great importance. However, little is known about whether work engagement mediates between character strengths and subjective well-being. The study aims to explore character strengths, work engagement and subjective well-being in nurses, and to determine whether work engagement plays a mediating role between the relationship. Material and Methods: From December 2017 to December 2018, 450 Chinese registered nurses completed the character strengths scale, work engagement scale, and subjective well-being scale. The relationship between study variables was tested by Pearson correlation. The mediating effect of work engagement was tested by the bootstrap method. Results: The results indicated the following: (1) the 4 elements of character strengths and work engagement were significantly and positively correlated with subjective well-being; (2) character strengths could significantly predict both work engagement and subjective well-being; (3) work engagement played a mediating role in this relationship. Conclusions: Character strengths affect subjective well-being in Chinese registered nurses, and work engagement plays a mediating variable among the relations. Therefore, nurses are encouraged to foster their character strengths and improve their level of work engagement for their subjective well-being. Following the results, the study recommends that nursing managers be aware of the importance of using character strengths in nursing work, taking actions to excavate nurses’ character strengths and encouraging nurses to use character strengths in clinical work to promote engagement and well-being. In the meantime, interventions to improve the level of subjective well-being based on nurses’ character strengths should be considered.

The effect of reach levels, horizontal angles, and vertical angles on isometric pull and push strengths of male and female was determined. Highly significant increases in men’s push strength were found between extreme to maximum reaches, and from extreme to normal reaches. However, for women’s push strength, a significant increase was found only between extreme to maximum reach. Significant or highly significant increases were found in men’s and women’s pull strength between the horizontal angle (0) sagittal through the active shoulder (90°) and other angles (0, 45, and 135°). However, for men’s push strength, highly significant increases were found between the horizontal angle 45° from the frontal plane, and other angles. For women’s push strength, significant or highly significant increases were found between the horizontal angles 0° and angles of 90 and 135°. For men’s and women’s pull strength, significant or highly significant increases were found between the vertical angle (), 90°, and other angles (-20, 0, and 45°). Similar increases were found for women’s push strength between the 45° angle and other angles. In the design of a workstation for paraplegics that requires pull and push forces, consideration must be given to the spatial factors.

The isometric pull and push strength profiles of males and females were determined in seated and standing positions in the workspace. The strongest pull strength location was at extreme reach vertically above the shoulder for both males and females. The greatest pull strength of 400 Newtons (N) for males was recorded in the seated and standing positions. Females. pull strengths in the seated and standing positions were 222 and 244 N, respectively. The strongest push strength was always at the maximum reach at the overhead location. Males. maximum push strength was 227 N in the seated position and 251 N in the standing position. Females’ maximum push strength was 96 N in the seated position and 140 N in the standing position. On the average the strength in the standing position was 79% of the seated position. The push strength was 71% of the pull strength and females were 56% as strong as males.

Opis:
Electric dipole oscillator strengths have been computed for transitions between both multiplet and individual lines in the Li(II) ion. The weakest bound electron potential model theory has been used. We have employed both numerical Coulomb approximation wave functions and numerical non-relativistic Hartree-Fock wave functions in the determination of expectation values of radii. The necessary energy values have been taken from experimental ionization energies. The oscillator strengths calculated with parameters obtained by using the two different wave functions have been compared not only to each other but also to other data taken from literature. A good agreement with results in literature has been obtained.
