Opis:
This paper presents results of field studies in historical former manor park of the Krajna Region which were made during two vegetation seasons, in 2013 and 2014. The studies covered eight monumental manor parks located in five communes (Krajenka commune –Maryniec, Łobżenica commune – Chlebno, Górka Klasztorna, Sośno commune – Wąwelno, Wyrzysk commune – Dąbki, Falmierowo, Wysoka commune – Gmurowo, Jeziorki Kosztowskie). The study aim at presenting geographical-historical status in Poland of the chosen former manor parks of the Krajna and especially tang into consideration the most precious specimen of dendroflora. A lot of old trees, trees alleys, trees lines, alien species and protected taxa were found on the parks’ areas. 472 species were found, including 164 constitute synanthropic spontaneophytes (apophytes), 94 – nonsynanthropic spontaneophytes and 29 – half-synanthropic spontaneophytes, 42 archaeophytes, 40 kenophytes and 103 – diaphytes. 149 taxa were found among dendric flora and 323 taxa of herbal flora. From the rare dendric and herbaceous flora in the scale of the region of the analysed park there are: Abies procera, Acer rubrum, Achillea ptarmica, Calystegia pulchra, Crataegus pedicellata, Liriodendron tulipifera, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Phellodendron amurense, Picea omorika, Ptelea trifoliata, Sanicula europaea, Tilia americana and Vicia grandiflora.
W parku w Maryńcu zanotowano pomnikowy Acer saccharinum o obwodzie 495 cm, w parku klasztornym w Górce Klasztornej grupę czterech Quercus robur o obwodach 505-580 cm. Na szczególną uwagę w zachowaniu bioróżnorodności zasługują parki w Chlebnie i Jeziorkach Kosztowskich. Rosną tam rzadkie gatunki obcego pochodzenia, m.in.: Larix leptolepis, Liriodendron tulipifera, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Phellodendron amurense i Platanus xhispanica ‘Acerifolia’. W parkach stwierdzono 11 taksonów objętych ochroną prawną, z czego 4 ścisłą i 7 częściową. Stanowiska niektórych z nich mają antropogeniczne pochodzenie, m.in. Galanthus nivalis, Hippophaë rhamnoides, Leucoium vernum, Matteucia struthiopteris, Pinus mugo i Taxus baccata.

Shell-abounding thanatocenoses were collected from recent sediments of the Vistula River near Cracow formed during a few flood episodes. They are composed of 65 species of aquatic and terrestrial molluscs. Considerable differences between particular mollusc assemblages deposited on the river banks are controlled by both the intensity of flood and the changes of the fauna inhabiting the catchment area, mainly the floodplain and the river itself. Living specimens and empty shells of Potamopyrgus antipodarum (Gray) were found for the first time in thanatocenoses accumulated in Tyniec in 1999 and 2000.

Opis:
This article presents and verifies material embedded in the awareness of users of Polish spoken in the southern part of Eastern Borderlands of the country across generations. The close relation between Polish and Ukrainian languages is conducive to the emergence of numerous interferences. Inclusion of Ukrainian features into the Polish system took place in the course of many centuries of contacts with speakers of the Ukrainian language. Ukrainian subdialects have left their mark on the Polish language in the southern part of Eastern Borderlands also in formations which deviate from the literary language. In the Polish language under scrutiny – the language spoken on the Polish-Ukrainian borderland, some formations follow Ukrainiansubdialects and the entire Eastern Slavic area. A majority of adverbs have a structure compliant with the general Polish language. However, there are also different formations, typical of borderland subdialects.

In the southern part of Mazowieckie voivodship, there are numerous former towns possessing a village status nowadays. Most of them were deprived of town privileges between 1869 and 1870, under the Tsar’s regulation. These sites lost the characteristics of urban areas in the slightest degree. The paper analyzes the functional, morphological and demographic situation of such category villages. Some of them were identified as having a chance to regain the town rights.

Results of investigations of shearing resistance and compressibility of fine-grained cohesive soil from the southern part of the wielkopolskie voivodeship in relation to the increasing moisture content are presented. The analysis of two series of samples, using soil paste for the consistency index of 0.9 and 0.4–0.3 was carried out. The results imply that the increasing moisture content causes a decrease in the angle of shearing resistance and cohesion and is also reflected in the higher compressibility of the soil. It was observed that regardless of the soil consistency, the angle of shearing resistance decreases and the cohesion value and the oedometric modulus of primary (consolidation) and secondary compressibility grows with the increase in the clay fraction.

Opis:
The magnetic signatures over the southern part of Kebbi State and its environs were analyzed together with the geological settings of the area to delineate the structures that may host gold mineralization. The aeromagnetic data used was the survey carried out by Fugro airborne surveys between 2005 and 2010 on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria. The reduction to equator (RTE), first and second vertical derivatives (FVD and SVD), Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET), analytic signal (AS), source parameter imaging (SPI) and tilt derivative (TDR) techniques were applied to the magnetic data covering the area. The results of the AS technique revealed that the study area is characterized with high amplitudes of magnetic anomalies (above 0.048 nT/m) and these could be of ferromagnetic minerals such as gold. The FVD, SVD, CET and TDR techniques also helped in delineating the lineaments (such as faults, fractures or shears zones) believed to be associated with alteration zones which play an important role in determining gold mineralized zones. The direction of the orientation of these features/lineaments trended in the NE-SW direction. The faults, fractures or shears zones delineated represent veins of possible mineralization. The depth of occurrence to the causative bodies using SPI algorithms was found to be below 137 m. Structures delineated within the area, when compared with the geological setting of the area, correspond to: quartz-mica schist, granite, biotite, gneiss, diorite, medium coarse-grained and biotite hornblende granite. Results from these techniques revealed alteration zones that may host gold. These regions correspond to the following areas: SE parts of Yauri and Shanga, Fakai, Ngaski, Zuru, Magama, Rijau, and the eastern part of Wasagu/Danko and Bukkuyum.

The palynology of the Cambrian claystones and mudstones of the Góry Pieprzowe Shale Formation in the southern part of the Łysogóry region (Holy Cross Mts., Poland) are described. These deposits had been referred to the Middle Cambrian of the Paradoxides paradoxissimus and Paradoxides forchhammeri Superzones. Here, rocks from 10 shallow drillings and several exposures in the Opatów region have been examined. Scarce and poorly preserved acritarch assemblages contain several forms that are indicative for the Upper Cambrian, while the genera Acanthodiacrodium, Cymatiogalea, Stelliferidium, Trunculumarium, Nellia, Impluviculus, Calyxiella, and Veryhachium excludes the possibility of a Middle Cambrian age. Rather, these forms suggest the Upper Cambrian, most probably its middle and upper part. The occurrence of the rocks of this age to both north and south of the Łysogóry quartzite outcrops indicates tectonic repetition of the geological structure in the Main Range of the Holy Cross Mountains. The dark colours of palynoflora from the Pieprzowe Mountains in Sandomierz are identical with the colours of the Cambrian microflora from the Łysogóry region, and differ from the bright colours characterising organic matter in the Kielce region of the Holy Cross Mountains. This suggests a tectonic relation of the Pieprzowe Mountains with the Łysogóry region rather than with the Kielce region, as hitherto thought.

Opis:
The Gorce Mts of southern Poland occur in a natural upland area that is viewed as valuable and is protected. It has an inadequate and irregular network of long-term monitoring points at the national level with regard to groundwater quality and vulnerability to contamination. The paper discusses the results of an investigation of groundwater in the Kowaniec Mały drainage basin, in the southern part of the Gorce Massif. It provides new hydrogeochemical data that shed light on the origin and evolution of groundwater chemistry in this region. On the basis of a hydrogeological survey of 33 natural springs, trends in the spatial and temporal variation of the physicochemical properties of the groundwater are presented. Three hydrochemical types of water were distinguished, namely HCO3-Ca, HCO3-Ca-Mg and HCO3-SO4-Ca. The detailed analysis of ionic ratios shows that the dissolution of carbonates (mainly calcite) and aluminosilicates (mainly albite) played a fundamental role in the formation of the chemical composition of the groundwater in the study area. These processes are responsible for the presence of the dominant ions, such as HCO3- and Ca2+, as well as SiO2 and in part Na+ and K+. Chloride–sodium mineralization is connected first of all with recharge by rain water and the direct dissolution of halite, contained in the aquifer rocks or formed during the evaporation of the water. The most probable sources of dissolved SO42- are the atmospheric sulphates contained in recharge meteoric waters in the case of springs located at higher altitudes and the reduced inorganic sulphur compounds dispersed in fine-grained sedimentary rocks, mostly as pyrite, which undergoes oxidation during rock weathering. Ion exchange processes involving clay minerals also were present and affected mainly the concentrations of Na+ + K+ and Ca2+.

Sedimentological, stratigraphical and geophysical studies across a new Triassic-Jurassic transition section in the Holy Cross Mts., Poland have revealed a large sedimentary hiatus embracing the entire latest Triassic–Early Jurassic – earliest Middle Jurassic time interval and yielded new data on the Triassic fluvial system and on Middle Jurassic shallow marine sedimentation. The presence of organic-walled dinoflagellate cysts allowed a precise age assignment of the black clay facies. Regional discussions and comparisons may be made with other areas with a similar depositional environment in Poland. For the first time a counterpart of the “Kościeliskie Beds” lithostratigraphic unit is proposed to exist in the Holy Cross Mts. area.

Opis:
An anonymous person from Częstochowa in Poland found a new meteorite during the summer of 2008. The specimen was found in eolian sand, where exotic grains connected with glacial activity were not observed. The suspected meteorite was kept in the founder’s possession until the autumn of 2018. This was when the holder of the meteorite contacted the owners of the woreczko.pl webpage, which is dedicated to meteorite identification. Moreover, the webpage was developed and operated by meteorite collectors Jan Woreczko and Wadi. After meeting, Jan and Wadi bought the meteorite, which is now part of their collection. After the meeting, Jan and Wadi bought the meteorite (total meteorite mass 2143 g), which is now part of their collection. Three fragments with their total mass 20.74 g as well as two thin-sections (7.03 g) are deposited at the Earth Sciences Museum, University of Silesia in Katowice. The fusion crust is black to brownish, typical for a chondrite. Regmagliptes are visible. The meteorite is characterized by chondrules, which range in diameter from 0.015 to 1.000 mm in diameter. The most common type of chondrule is represented by olivine (Ol). The barred Ol texture, showing elongate, sub-parallel bars of olivine with clear pyroxenes (Px) and oligoclase between the bars. The second characteristic type is represented by Ol-Px porphyritic chondrules and radial Px chondrules. The matrix is not recrystallized; and the clasts are up to 0.1 to 0.2 mm in diameter. Px and Ol, plagioclase, metallic phases, troilite, and spinel (Cr-spinel) are up to 71.9 vol.%, 11.2 vol.%., 7.0 vol.%., 4.2 vol.%., and 1.1 vol.% of the meteorite, respectively. The average content of the secondary minerals is 4.4 vol.% (close to the outermost part is up to 8–10 vol.%. The meteorite is classified as a H5 ordinary chondrite, based on the Ol and Px composition (Fa/Fs), with an official name ‘Kuźnica’.

Opis:
Introduction. In recent years there has been a significant increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity in humans. It turns out that the problem is not limited to adults; excessive body weight is occurring in children more often. Aim. The main purpose of this work was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in preschool children from the Rzeszów district, and to determine risk factors for occurrence. Materials and survey method. The study was conducted among 200 preschool children (3 - 6 years of age) from the Rzeszów poviat area. Measurements of height, weight, and determination of BMI were performed and these values are standardized according to the WHO centile grids appropriate for each age group. Survey results. Normal weight was observed in 58% of the respondents, 11% were overweight, and 10.5% were obese, whereas 20.5% of children had undernourishment. Obese children were the largest group among 6-year-olds. Among 4 year old children, abnormal body weight were more frequent in boys. On the other hand, in children aged 5 years, undernourishment or overweight was found more frequently in girls. Conclusions. The study did not confirm a significant relationship between gender, place of residence and socio-economic situation of respondents, and the prevalence of overweight or obesity. The results of this study indicate that the problem of excessive body weight refers to the increasing number of children.

Opis:
The sedimentary succession of the largest example of an Upper Oxfordian reef located in the southern part of the Polish sector of the northern Tethys shelf is described. Detailed sampling of exposures enabled characterization of the full succession of facies and microfacies diversity, documenting the reef evolution. The succession studied represents the maximum development of Upper Jurassic reefs in Poland corresponding to the upper Transversarium and the Bifurcatus zones, and followed by drowning of the carbonate platform in the lower Bimmamatum Zone. The reef succession comprises three types of facies, in which eight important microfacies types were distingushed, reflecting several stages of reef development. Mid-ramp, microbial-sponge frame-reefs represent a transgressive depositional sequence, up to tens of metres thick. A microbial-Crescentiella-ooid and ooid-intraclast-bioclast facies form numerous, decimetre- to metre-scale, sequences corresponding to higher-order, transgressive/regressive sea level changes. These facies represent a mid-inner ramp setting when sedimentation was dominated by bioclasts and non-skeletal grains (mainly ooids, oncoids, aggregate grains and intraclasts). The grains were stabilized by microbialites and cemented in early diagenesis, which created grain-dominated, microbial-cement supported reefs. As a result, both the mid-ramp, microbial-sponge frame-reefs and the shallow-water, grain-dominated, microbial-cement supported reefs form extensive, strongly lithified Oxfordian reef complexes in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.

Opis:
This paper presents the Late Glacial stage of the development of the Białe Ługi peatland in the southern Holy Cross Mountains, based on a comprehensive palaeoenvironmental data. A complex analysis of palynology, Cladocera, sedimentology, geochemistry and 14C dating were used. Organic deposition was initiated during the Oldest Dryas. The sedimentary record of the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems reflects considerable difference between cooler (Oldest, Older and Younger Dryas) and warmer phases (Bølling and Allerød). Periods of intensified interaction between aeolian processes and peatland are related to stages of disappearing vegetation and changes in aquatic invertebrate communities. We therefore suggest that peatlands were created as a result of local lithological-structural, tectonic, hydrogeological and morphological conditions, and the peatland development rate was largely influenced by changing climatic conditions, which determined local vegetation development, intensity of denudation processes and water level changes. The results validate significance of selection and use of several methods, as well as value of biogenic deposits from the Białe Ługi peatland as archives of past climate change in the Małopolska Upland. Relatively stable water conditions and uninterrupted biogenic sedimentation in the Late Glacial that were provided by the geological structure and relief suggest the studied peatland is a leading one in the region.

Opis:
The objective of this work is to analyze the impact of seasonality on the socio-economic development of rural areas of the southern part of Karelia. This study is based on the field data obtained via semi-structured indepth interviews with experts from the local community. The results show that the influence of seasonality is rather indirect, being a constituent of other factors: economic, infrastructural, institutional, social, etc. Although seasonality is most often perceived as a negative phenomenon regarding socio-economic development, modern types of economic activity characterized by a peak of activity in different seasons of the year mitigate the effect of seasonality and even benefit from being seasonal. Based on the materials collected, a typology of rural settlements of the southern part of Karelia based on the nature of the effect of seasonality has been developed (with a predominantly positive and predominantly negative effect).

Opis:
Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous deposits of the Crimea Peninsula are rich in microfossils frequently used for stratigraphic interpretations. In case of foraminifera, the research has been carried predomi- nantly on assemblages obtained by washing the rock samples. The present paper is based on investigations of thin sections from the more indurated sediments that seldom were objects of study. Its goal was to obtain additional information on age and environment of sediments studied. Over 250 thin sections from 16 surface outcrops yielded abundant foraminifera from which over fourty are described herein. Many foraminiferal species (e.g., Labirynthina mirabilis, Parurgonina caelinensis, Neokilianina rahonensis, Amijella amiji, Anchispirocyclina lusitanica) are stratigraphically significant and known from the Kimmeridgian-Tithonian of the Mediterranean Tethys. The Early Cretaceous fauna is represented by Protopeneroplis ultragranulata, Everticyclammina kelleri, Nautiloculina bronnimanni, Monsalevia salevensis, and Mayncina bulgarica. Generally, the investigated fauna is typical for paleoenvironment of the carbonate platform. Older (Kimmeridgian-Tithonian) assemblages represent the inner, and younger (Berriasian) outer parts of the platform. Palaeogeographic distribution of many species described from the studied area indicates their affiliation with cosmopolitan biota known from the north Tethyan shelf. Additionally, few calcareous cysts of Dinoflagellata have been identified and described.
