In 1638 dramatic idyll a male view of marriage is undermined by the voice of these women (Dafnis appears here as pars pro toto) who critically perceived a marital status as a life determined by abandoning the virtue of chastity. In Scene 13 one can already recognize – at least on a verbal level – the equal rights: Peneus’s male arguments are juxtaposed with Dafnis’s female ones. The nymph – in a prefeminist way? – juxtaposes her female subjectivity with male objectification in favour of the values which for Apollo and Peneus can be imagined at most: love for a woman and the continuity of a family (exalted by being related to a god).

The present article serves in a way as a comment to the first two chapters of Rhetorics where the Stagirite outlined his concept of the rhetorical arts. Given a larger cultural and historical background, the author has submitted Rhetorics to an extensive interpretation by indicating its origin, context, exceptional characteristics and novelty. A great emphasis was given to explain the relation of rhetorics to dialectics and politics, as well as to determine its place in the Aristotelian classification of arts.

This essay offers a pluralized conception of local rhetorics. The local has traditionally been conceived as the backdrop or flat surface where rhetoric/discourse is situated, or at best as a contextual dimension of rhetorical situations. The history of usage of this term – evoking a fix and inert connotation that often indicates a bounded locality or site – has contributed to its neglect as a tool for rhetorical theory, while its actual use in rhetorical praxis has proliferated in conjunction to the turn to field and site-based methodologies and practices. By drawing on fieldwork about the rhetoricity of a post-disaster locality to ground my theoretical reflections, here I offer a conceptualization of local rhetorics via multiple ontologies and ecological theories. Finally, throughout the essay, I suggest a rhetorical-topographic approach as a methodological orientation to integrate existing theoretical and methodological pathways for exploring the multiple rhetoricity of the local.
Niniejszy esej proponuje przyjęcie pluralistycznej koncepcji „lokalnych retoryk”. Tradycyjne ujęcia lokalności zwykle poprzestają na traktowaniu jej jako płaskiej przestrzeni lub tła sytuacyjnego dla retoryki lub dyskursu, a w najlepszym przypadku jako wymiaru kontekstu wpisanego w model sytuacji retorycznej. Historia użycia terminu „lokalny” – z jego konotacją stałości, nieruchomości, dookreślenia przestrzennego – przyczyniła się do zaniedbania rozważań teoretycznych z jego użyciem w badaniach retorycznych. A tymczasem użycie „lokalności” w praktyce retorycznej rozwinęło się zgodnie ze zwrotem ku metodologiom terenowym. Opierając się na pracach terenowych na temat retoryczności miejsc katastrof w celu zapoczątkowania refleksji teoretycznej, niniejsze studium proponuje konceptualizację retoryk lokalnych, która jest konstytuowana przez wiele ontologii i teorii retorycznych. W eseju omawia się podejście retoryczno-topograficzne jako orientację metodologiczną, która może integrować istniejące teoretyczne i metodologiczne ścieżki dociekań na temat wielowymiarowej retoryczności tego, co lokalne.

Dance is found in every known human culture as part of religious, social and healing ceremonies. The increased interest in the role of dance in western psychology corresponds with the creation of the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) founded by Marian Chace, and the beginning of the dance movement therapy (DMT). The Association introduced the dance and the dance-based movement as part of the therapeutic process, in order to explore the relationship between the expression of individual emotions and movement. Drawing both from the visual rhetorics approach (Patterson and Corning 1997) and the game studies (Fernández-Vara 2009) I will analyze the multiple narrative layers in the Bound video game (2016), pointing to the mutual relationship the player and the game have on each other (Keogh 2018) decoding the game as a metaphor for the therapeutic effects of dance.
Retoryki ciała oraz empatia kinestetyczna w grze wideo „Bound” (2016). Taniec występuje w każdej znanej kulturze ludzkiej jako część religijnych ceremonii oraz rytuałów społecznych. Zwiększone zainteresowanie rolą tańca w zachodniej psychologii koresponduje z założeniem przez Mariana Chace'a American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) i popularyzowaniem terapii tańcem (DMT). Stowarzyszenie ADTA wprowadziło taniec i ruch oparty na tańcu jako nieodłączną część procesu terapeutycznego. Czerpiąc zarówno z retoryki wizualnej (Patterson, Corning 1997), jak i teorii groznawczych (Fernández-Vara 2009) przeanalizuję różne warstwy narracji w grze wideo „Bound” (2016), ze szczególnym naciskiem na wzajemne relacje między graczami i grą (Keogh 2018) oraz na postrzeganie gry jako metafory procesu terapeutycznego.

What is Pijaństwo by Ignacy Krasicki about?The article makes an attempt to show various options of interpretation of Ignacy Krasicki’s satirePijaństwo [Drunkenness]. The point of departure is a thorough analysis of the work, leading us to a conclusion that it has a many-sided sense. It concerns not only the eponymous phenomenon of abuse of spiritsbut also a psychological mechanism of justification of our own behaviours considered as negative, as well as the ineffectiveness of persuasion. It turns out that the characters indialogue actually deliver separate monologues, and the poet does not identify himself clearly with any of them, as he does not accept authoritative moralizing which takes heed neitherofspecific circumstances of the criticized phenomenon nor of the receiver’s viewpoint and opinions. An importantrole in the satire under discussion is also played by the category of comedy. The article also shows the relationship between the subject matter of Pijaństwo and the entire cycle of satiresby Krasicki, as well as some of his other works (particularly fables)

The present article contains an analysis of the rhetorical texts which are to be found in a fifteenth-century manuscript held by the Jagiellonian Library (shelfmark 126). This collection was probably copied from a codex brought to Cracow from Italy by Jan of Ludzisko, who studied medicine in Padua from 1430 to 1433. It consists of humanist and mediaeval texts (mainly speeches and letters) and clearly served as a model for the speeches which were written both by Jan himself and by his pupil Piotr Gaszowiec. An analysis of the full texts (and not only of the incipits) allows us to identify the hitherto unknown authors and/or the time and place of origin of some of these works. This in turn shows that the texts in the collection are divided into certain sections, some consisting of works by the same author (e.g. the speeches of Cristoforo Barzizza or the panegyrics of Bernardo Messalta) and some of speeches meant to be delivered on particular occasions (e.g. praising the sciences or mourning someone’s death). Apart from very popular fifteenth-century texts such as Andrea Giuliano’s speech for the funeral of Emanuel Chrysoloras, the collection also includes Italian rhetorical texts which had hitherto been known only from the Cracow manuscripts. An analysis of the manner in which the works are arranged within the volume in question allows us to distinguish certain “packages” of texts that are also present in other European manuscripts. Most of the texts which are included in this collection came into existence in circles having connections with Padua and Venice, but some of them were written during the Council of Constance by the outstanding Florentine humanists Poggio Bracciolini and Leonardo Bruni. For this reason, Ms 126 makes it possible to carry out research on the reception of Italian intellectual culture as well as on the very process of the transmission of Italian patterns of writing to Cracow circles. It also proves that the circles of Padua and Venice served as important intermediaries or ‘filters’ in the process of the transmission of Italian patterns to Cracow.
Niniejszy artykuł zawiera analizę tekstów z kolekcji retorycznej, znajdującej się w piętnastowiecznym rękopisie Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej z sygnaturą 126. Miała ona zostać odpisana z kodeksu przywiezionego z Włoch do Krakowa przez Jana z Ludziska, studenta medycyny w Padwie w latach 1430–1433. Ta złożona z utworów o charakterze humanistycznym, a częściowo średniowiecznym (głównie mów i listów), kolekcja dostarczyła wzorców dla umieszczonych po niej w tymże rękopisie mów Jana z Ludziska i jego ucznia Piotra Gaszowca. Przeprowadzona analiza pełnych tekstów, a nie samych incipitów, pozwoliła na identyfikację nierozpoznanych dotąd autorów i/lub miejsca i czasu powstania niektórych utworów. Pozwoliło to pokazać sposób uporządkowania tekstów w obrębie tej kolekcji i wyróżnić w niej określone bloki tekstów, na przykład grupy utworów tego samego autora (na przykład mowy Cristofora Barzizzy, panegiryki Bernarda Messalta) czy mów wygłaszanych w określonych okolicznościach (na przykład mowy z pochwałami nauk czy mowy pogrzebowe). W skład tej kolekcji obok bardzo popularnych w XV wieku utworów, takich jak mowa Andrei Giuliana na pogrzeb Emanuela Chryzolorasa, wchodzą także teksty retoryczne włoskie znane dotąd tylko z rękopisów krakowskich. Analiza kolejności ułożenia tekstów pozwoliła wskazać w rękopisie BJ 126 „pakiety” tekstów występujących obok siebie również w innych rękopisach europejskich. Większość tekstów wchodzących w skład omawianej kolekcji powstała w środowisku padewsko-weneckim, ale są wśród nich także utwory napisane w czasie soboru w Konstancji przez wybitnych humanistów florenckich Poggia Braccioliniego i Leonarda Bruniego. Z tego względu rękopis BJ 126 umożliwia badania nad recepcją włoskiej kultury intelektualnej i nad samym procesem transmisji włoskich wzorców do środowiska krakowskiego. Dowodzi też znaczenia środowiska padewsko-weneckiego jako „pośrednika” czy „filtra” w procesie transmisji włoskich wzorców do Krakowa.

The Association of Exiles, where the significant role for several years has been played by Erika Steinbach, runs a certain image Policy, based on certain facts presented in media. One should mention, first of all “The Chart of Germans Exiled from Homeland”, which is the basis and the fundamental reference point for all documents of the Association and the initiative of the “Centre Against Expulsions”, directed at evidencing fates of the Germans, who had to leave the areas which, according to the resolutions taken in Jalta and Potsdam, were transferred to other states. The present article is an attempt at describing image strategies applied by BdV. The basis is an analysis of the home page of the Association and “The Chart of German Exiles”.

Artykuł dotyczy problemów, jakie pojawiają się przy próbach opisu utrwalonych jednostek języka polskiego pochodzenia biblijnego. Autor opracowania zwraca uwagę na wysoce niejednorodny status genetyczny tych konstrukcji, które powszechnie uznawane są za jednostki o rodowodzie biblijnym. W tekście postulowana jest potrzeba odróżnienia konstrukcji o prymarnym rodowodzie biblijnym, dla których Biblia jest wyłącznym źródłem pochodzenia, od tych, dla których tekst biblijny stanowi jedynie medium, płaszczyznę upowszechnienia. W tym drugim wypadku mowa jest o jednostkach, które status spetryfikowanych konstrukcji zyskały poza tekstem biblijnym. Obiektem bliższego oglądu autor uczynił tę drugą kategorię polskich biblizmów, wskazując głównie na hebrajską i grecką tradycję retoryczną jako ważne źródła ich pochodzenia. Wśród typowych świadectw tej tradycji opracowanie wskazuje na takie figury i gatunki retoryczne, jak: chiazm, hiperbola, antyteza, synkreza, meryzm, abstractum pro concreto oraz konstrukcje o typie loci communes. Pochodną opracowania jest propozycja wprowadzenia do opisu rodzimych biblizmów dystynkcji oddzielającej płaszczyznę źródłową od płaszczyzny upowszechnienia tego rodzaju jednostek. W części końcowej autor wskazuje na dodatkowe możliwości badawcze, jakie wynikają z odwołania się do teoretycznych i praktycznych osiągnięć tradycji retorycznej w kontekście opisu rodzimego zasobu skonwencjonalizowanych jednostek pochodzenia biblijnego.
This paper deals with the problems which arise during attempts at describing fixed units in the Polish language which originate from the Bible. The author pays attention to a highly heterogenous genetic status of these structures which are commonly regarded as units of biblical origins. In this text, the need for distinguishing between structures of primary biblical origins (for which the biblical text is the only source) and those for which the biblical text is only a means, or level of popularization, has been postulated. In the latter case, we deal with the units which acquired the status of outdated structures outside the biblical text. The author investigates in detail this latter category of Polish biblisms, pointing mainly to Hebrew and Greek rhetorical tradition as important sources of their origins. Among typical proofs of this tradition, the paper mentions such figures and rhetorical genres as: chiastic structure, hyperbole, antithesis, syncresis, merism, abstractum pro concreto and structures of the loci communes type. A follow-up to this paper is a proposal to introduce into the description of native biblical units a distinction between the source level and the popularisation level of such units. In the final part, the author points to other research options, which result from the reference to theoretical and practical achievements of rhetorical tradition in the context of describing local resources of conventionalised biblisms.

This article offers a multifaceted interpretation of the controversial "miękiszon" neologism, which Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro used to provoke Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, just as journalists and media scholars suspected. The article uses the tools of pragmalinguistics, rhetoric, and discourse theory to prove the term’s performative and vulgar character. It also attempts to popularize the pragmatic-rhetorical methods of text interpretation.
