This article concerns widely perceived ecological education being provided among country youth by People’s Universities, their homeland is Denmark and M. F. S. Grundvig is concerned to be their father. He observed English educational system and the way of education with the usage of boarding schools and then he transmitted it to Denmark, where at the end of the 18th c. and at the beginning of the 19th century the role of peasants, who reached for power and had their own farms, increased, therefore, there was a necessity to create an integrated educational system for those people. Thiss way of educating was then carried to Poland by Ignacy Solarz and his wife Zofia Solarzowa - that took place in the mid-20th century. A special tribute of these educational institutions was reaching those country groups of people who were hungry for knowledge and social advance. People’s Universities had and have ecological education established in their educational programme. However, this education concerns integrated, harmonic and balanced development of the human being, since, if ecology means the knowledge about the environment, it is the human being that should be the most important, that should be the subject. In this system of educating one is not only concerned in gaining the knowledge, but also in ability to pass the gained knowledge, expressing one’s opinions, ability to make relations with people and with the world. This system is about the most integrated development of a student’s personality, the ecological education must not limit itself just to care about the nature, but it should also take into consideration the human’s psychology, environment in which one was brought up and also the values with which one was fed. That is why this widely taken ecology should not omit religious, cultural and patriotic values. And People’s Universities draw their attention to this kind of values.

The aim of the study. The aim of the paper is a comparison of tolerance to uncertainty in two groups of elderly: the students of the University of the Third Age (UTA) and older people who are not enrolled but help to educate grandchildren. A relation to uncertainty was shown to infl uence on decision making strategy of elderly that indicates on importance of the researches. Methods. To obtain the objectives of the paper the following methods were used: 1) Personal change readiness survey (PCRS) adapted by Nickolay Bazhanov and Galina Bardiyer; 2) Tolerance Ambiguity Scale (TAS) adapted by Galina Soldatova; 3) Freiburg personality inventory (FPI) and 4) The questionnaire of self-relation by Vladimir Stolin and Sergej Panteleev. 40 socially involved elderly people were investigated according the above methods, 20 from UTA and 20 who are not studied and served as control group. Results. It was shown that relations of tolerance to uncertainty in the study group of students of the University of the Third Age substantially differ from relations of tolerance to uncertainty in group of older people who do not learn. The majority of students of the University of the Third Age have an inherent low tolerance for uncertainty, which is associated with an increase in expression personality traits and characteristics in self-relation. The group of the elderly who are not enrolled increasingly shows tolerance of uncertainty, focusing on  the social and trusting relationship to meet the needs of communication, and the ability to manage their own emotions and desires than a group of Third Age university students. Conclusions. The results of experimental research of the third age university student’s peculiarities of the tolerance to uncertainty were outlined. It was found that decision making in the ambiguity situations concerning social interaction is well developed in elderly who do not study. The students of the University of Third Age have greater needs in conversation, social interaction than the control group and should learn to make decisionin ambiguity or uncertainty situations.

Opis:
The image of the University of Silesia (UŚ) has been presented in various ways. The basic problem, which makes it possible to understand many mechanisms taking place in universities in the times of totalitarian system domination, boils down to the evaluation of the authority of the people of the University, without which the essence of universitas does not exist. In 1981, the construction of opposition structures and the possibility of effective action to eliminate various abnormalities, especially when it came to systemic solutions, proved impossible. After the institutional collapse of the totalitarian system, attempts were made to settle accounts, which often met with resistance from academic circles. At the University of Silesia, at the request of the company branch of the Solidarity Trade Union, no sooner than in April 2007 did the Senate of the University of Silesia pass a resolution to establish a Historical Commission, which was to analyse the attitudes of the University’s people in the past on the basis of the documents of the Institute of National Remembrance and the University Archives. An opportunity arose to objectively examine not only the history of the institution, but also the attitudes of its employees. The aim was to indicate not only negative examples of behaviour which were supposed to imply a violation of the principles of academic ethics, especially in the context arising from vetting statements, but also heroic attitudes of the employees of the University of Silesia in the years 1968—1990. The Commission’s reports were made public, either in the form of information about the works or in their entirety by the “Gazeta Uniwersytecka” daily. One of the most active members of the works of the Historical Committee of the University of Silesia Senate was its first Chairman — prof. zw. dr hab. Adam Lityński.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to show systemic assumptions and realities of teachers’ education and improvement in the Polish People's Republic during the 1970 s. The author pays special attention to university courses for working adults. The system included a lot of difficult solutions and limitations in relation to the extramural courses offered. The authorities perceived them as a form of education not as a form of teaching. The systemic principles in the Polish People's Republic were derived from Marx's theory which approved the need for the versatile development of the individual. An ideal teacher was a person who could implement comprehensive educational tasks and educate a student. This meant that a teacher had to have a university diploma and all the required qualifications. Therefore, just before the main Polish educational reform in 1973 for teachers the key issues were the following: the development of skills for independent intellectual work, implementation of independent activities aiming at undertaking research, facilitating a disciplined way of thinking amongst the students, and their ability to present written results. The organization and implementation of extramural courses for teachers played an important role in the process of educating and improving pedagogical staff in the Polish People's Republic.

Opis:
The main purpose of this article is to discuss the policy of the local authorities party-state failure to Catholic University of Lublin in the years 1956-1989. Catholic University of Lublin as a university private, independent from the influence of the communists, standing on the other side of the barricades as the institution of the enemy ideologically the reactivation of operations in 1944 It was doomed from the new authorities for various types of repression and at some point even the test liquidation. After a short period of peace which started after 1956., the local authorities have begun to take decisive steps aimed at weakening in the longer term even paralyze the functioning of the university. It was planned to achieve this among others, by closing the secular fields of study, getting rid of financial resources or blocking the appointment of academic staff. However, the intentions of the local party authorities do not always go hand in hand with the decisions by the falling in Warsaw. The central authorities because they were not convinced until the end to make its policy in relation to the Catholic University of Lublin reach for definitive measures, ignoring the suggestions from relevant in this regard with the lower levels of the party apparatus. In spite of the hostile policy of the local party authorities university has managed to not only survive in this difficult period but also over time to take action to enable its progressive development.

Taking up Jacques Derrida's concept of „the university without condition”, we try to argue that the fundamental role of the university in the history of Europe has consisted in a specific kind of radicalism which, on the one hand, allows the individual for the exploration and pursuit of his/her interests and vocation, and, on the other, makes it mandatory to realize that the development of the individual always takes place in the space of conjoint communicative experience. Thus, what is at stake in any discussion of the university education is a future of democracy and citizenship. Using the works of, among others, Hanah Arendt, Immanuel Kant, Plato, Dewey, and Friedrich Hölderlin the essay makes a point that to save what holds between people, i.e. to redeem the human bond in the society, the university always aims at the acts of Deweyan deliberation thus discussing and thus determining appropriate significance to the public and the individual.

Opis:
Poland is a country with very low labour force participation among people with disabilities. On the one hand, changes are visible in the attitudes and behaviour of people with disabilities, especially students and graduates who aim to have a professional career. On the other hand, one can observe a process of gradual withdrawal of families from caring and active support of the disabled. This situation demands certain compensatory measures such us intensification of engagement of relevant institutions and seeking alternative ways of providing care and support. The Polish system of occupational development services for the disabled is complicated and nontransparent for the beneficiaries. It is also inadequate for the growing professional aspirations of people with disabilities. Employees of support institutions tend to follow long-standing routines and patterns of behaviour defined by formal rules, rather than adjusting to the individual needs of the disabled and the changing labour market. Commercialisation of support institutions, within the framework of the new paradigm of social policy, has contributed to economisation of support institutions by focusing on benefits and profits to the institution, rather than the professional development of disabled people. Thus, we have an unfinished process of labour emancipation of disabled university graduates who cannot satisfy their career aspirations.
Polska należy do krajów o bardzo niskiej aktywności zawodowej osób niepełnosprawnych. Widoczne są już zmiany postaw i zachowań osób niepełnosprawnych, przede wszystkim studentów i absolwentów szkół wyższych dążących do realizacji kariery zawodowej. Z drugiej strony obserwujemy proces „wycofywania się” rodziny z zadań opieki i aktywnego wspierania osób niepełnosprawnych. Wymaga to określonych działań kompensacyjnych: intensyfikacji pracy instytucji, poszukiwania alternatywnych sposobów zapewniania opieki i wsparcia. Polski system wsparcia aktywizacji zawodowej osób niepełnosprawnych jest systemem skomplikowanym, złożonym, nieprzejrzystym dla beneficjentów, a jednocześnie niedostosowanym do rosnących aspiracji zawodowych osób z ograniczeniami sprawności. Pracownicy instytucji wsparcia częściej powielają stare schematy działań oparte na rutynie i formalizmie, niż dostosowują się do indywidualnych potrzeb niepełnosprawnych i zmieniającego się rynku pracy. Urynkowienie instytucji wsparcia, w ramach nowego paradygmatu polityki społecznej, bardziej przyczyniło się do ekonomizacji instytucji wsparcia poprzez nastawienie na korzyści dla instytucji niż do aktywizacji zawodowej osób niepełnosprawnych. W rezultacie mamy niedokończony proces emancypacji niepełnosprawnych absolwentów szkół wyższych, którzy nie mogą zaspokoić swoich rozbudzonych aspiracji zawodowych.

Access to adult education
University of the Third Age
Opis:
The article discusses the adult and old people learning opportunities for Lithuania. Adult education is one of the most important factors that determine both the development of the society and the human achievements in modern society. Education is a social practice which includes education and cultural communication in the broadest sense, as well as actions of human reproduction at large. Access to adult education should ensure the justice in the society, although scientists argue that education system is usually powerless to correct other social systems created by inequality and in justice Accessible and quality adult education system ensures better life, social mobility, and provides status. Accessibility of education (particularly adult’s) is unconsciously problem, unequally understandable phenomenon, rarely becoming the object of special investigation. This can be logical: usage of this concept gained a wider scope only in last years, when essential European political educational documents appeared, first of all, Memorandum of life-long learning. In long-life learning ensuring strategy, the analysis of present state is provided. A potential of informal adults education suppliers when integrating groups of social exclusion, consolidating local communities by raising political and civil literacy of society, what is directly related to common welfare of society, are not fully used. Seeking to increase the integration of socially vulnerable society groups, juridical base is constantly improved in recent years. The law of disabled people social integration and the law of social companies are enacted, interinstitutional programs, reflecting the needs of different social separation groups, making assumptions to develop the initiatives directed to education of social separation groups are implemented.

On the basis of the Social Learning Theory the author proposed three possible methods on how the university community could promote job crafting behaviors among students. These methods are: trainings and persuasions, modeling, or observation of how university top researchers work, and allowing students to experience success in changing different aspects of the university environment.

The main purpose of this article is to present and bring closer the educational institution of the University of the Third Age, to draw attention to its educational, integrating, and activating role in the life of older people, as well as to define the challenges it faces in the face of the growing process of aging of society. The demographic changes which are taking place are increasing interest in the subject of older people and the ageing of society, but most of all they are inducing the greatest possible activation of older people by enabling them to have contact with their peers, satisfying their need for self-development, education and, above all, acquiring new skills. Universities of the Third Age provide older people with such opportunities. Their dynamic development in Poland and the positive changes they bring both for senior citizens themselves and local communities overshadow the problems they face in their daily activities.

The focus of the present research is to examine what Polish university students associate with their Eastern neighbours - Russians and Ukrainians. The predominantly negative historical experience of Poland with those two nations, especially with the Russians, constitutes the background for a rather negative attitude towards both of them. However, the recent political changes in the Eastern European region, especially the revolution in Ukraine starting in 2013 and subsequently the Russian-Ukrainian crisis have the potential to change the light in which Poles are viewing their neighbours. Previous research has already suggested that after the aforementioned events the general attitude of Polish people towards the Ukrainians has become more positive, while towards Russians it is increasingly negative. In order to analyse the contemporary image of Russians and Ukrainians, a survey with 150 Polish university students was conducted. The results of the research show that both nations are predominantly associated with the current socio-political situation rather than with history, culture, language, tradition or other topics. While Russia and Russians are mostly associated with the current political situation and key persons, the Ukraine is linked to the socio-political changes in the state taking place during the research.

The object of the research is to pay attention to the issues regarding to educational needs, opportunities for education and developing the cognitive processes in elderly people as well as the methods of organisation of institutions involved into this area of activity. The objective of this article is to at least attempt to present institutional measures offered by the said countries relating to this age group, especially with regard to the support of their cognitive development and the idea of lifelong learning. One of the article's elements is showing the good practice regarding to these problems, which are well worth being paid attention to and being established in the Polish educational practice toward elderly people.
