Opis:
In gas sensing applications we often use sensors which have poor selectivity. Such sensors are mature, cheap devices with simple application circuits. Unfortunately, their cross sensitivity greatly restricts their usefulness when used in systems which employs univariate analysis. One method which allows to overcome this difficulty is utilization of multivariate analysis methods applied to the response from the group of such non-selective sensors. This work presents the multivariate, pattern recognition system utilized to process the response of an array of non-selective semiconductor sensors to obtain the qualitative information.

Opis:
In many physical problems we make use of experimental data in which each measured unit is characterized by a definite system of properties. A large number of such properties are necessary to interpret the results of an experiment. However, complete information can be used only if all properties observed during the experiment are considered simultaneously. For this reason the application of multivariate analysis of variance or covariance is justified when processing data with many properties. In this work we discuss the theory and practical applications of univariate and multivariate analysis of covariance. This work is a continuation of a paper by B. Ceranka and the author [Mat. Stos. (3) 4 (1975), 65–75; MR0451560], and generalizes multivariate analysis of covariance for block designs to an arbitrary experimental arrangement. A general linear model of multivariate analysis of covariance, a special case of which yields analysis of variance and regression analysis, is given in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 is devoted to analysis of covariance in one and many variables and to the testing of hypotheses concerning the main and auxiliary variables. In this chapter we introduce estimators for the matrices of regression coefficients of the main variables relative to the auxiliary variables and for the matrix of parameters. Formulas are given for the sums of squares and for the matrices of the sums of squares which are needed in hypothesis testing in the analysis of covariance. Practical applications of multivariate analysis of covariance are illustrated with an example of the growth of plants. (MR0483212)

Opis:
In many applications of the multivariate analyses of variance, the classic parametric solutions for testing hypotheses of equality in population means or multisample and multivariate location problems might not be suitable for various reasons. Multivariate multisample location problems lack a comparative study of the power behaviour of the most important combined permutation tests as the number of variables diverges. In particular, it is useful to know under which conditions each of the different tests is preferable in terms of power, how the power of each test increases when the number of variables under the alternative hypothesis diverges, and the power behaviour of each test as the function of the proportion of true alternative hypotheses. The purpose of this paper is to fill the gap in the literature about combined permutation tests, in particular for big data with a large number of variables. A Monte Carlo simulation study was carried out to investigate the power behaviour of the tests, and the application to a real case study was performed to show the utility of the method.

Opis:
Nut and kernel size, shape and some sensorial traits in ten hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) cultivars were evaluated using an objective procedure based on multivariate analysis in order to obtain an important value of these cultivars for growers, processing and consumers. Cultivars were compared with nuts and kernels of C. avellana L. and C. colurna L. Significant differences in all physical properties were found among the cultivars, and also among cultivars and hazelnut species. A high correlation was found among some hazelnut traits. Cluster and principal component analysis supported results obtained by analysis of variance, and segregated genotypes in similar groups according to their characteristics evaluated. Procedure described may be useful in analyzing impacts of genotype per se on nut and kernel physical and sensorial properties, and also determine the factors for growers, breeders, especially for harvesting, sorting and other postharvest operations in order to establish optimal machine and equipment design.

The European Union as a whole tends to be a highly diversified entity. Therefore it should not be surprising that the main goal of EU authorities is the limitation of inequalities among member countries. The aim of this study is to identify some groups of countries from the EU that show similar characteristics concerning the functioning of healthcare sectors. The selected countries will be analysed through the prism of characteristics connected with the financial and organizational issues. The study will be backed up by a chosen multivariate statistical analysis — cluster analysis.

Opis:
Motor insurance in the Polish insurance sector are a major source of revenue. Rapid increase in number of passenger cars registered in Poland since 2000 caused the increase in revenue of Insurance Companies (IC) of this title. The primary objective of this paper is to describe the role of insurance in the Polish insurance sector, in particular, seeking answers to questions about the impact of insurance on the insurance sector. Results obtained analyzes indicate that the motor insurance sector determines the shape of the Polish life insurance. Evidenced by the high gross premiums depending on the number of section II cars, the footnote of motor sector. You can definitely tell that the motor insurance market growing at the same rate as the number of registered cars in Poland, as measured by gross. At the same time changing the cost structure of insurance, since the communication net profitability is not dependent on technical profit on car insurance. But while the profits of Section II is dependent on gross premiums collected from insurance. What can you mean that car insurance is a kind of vehicle for reaching customers with other more effective property insurance. And that motor insurance are key competitive battleground among IC. Loss ratio for motor insurance is not dependent on the number of registered passenger cars. Net efficiency of IC property is not dependent on the efficiency of motor insurance, the measured result of technology.

Opis:
Research background: The uncertainty in the environment and rapid changes have impact on firms, regions and countries. The necessity to adapt to new conditions requires a stimulation of actions aimed at enhancing competitiveness and economic growth. In this respect, the European Union strategy called Europe 2020 should be mentioned. Regarding the role of firms? innovation activities in economic growth of regions and countries, substantial im-portance was attached to how innovation activities of Polish firms differ from those from the other EU countries with a level of innovation similar to Poland. Here, a particular emphasis was put on Moderate Innovator countries. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to investigate Polish firms? innovation activities against those by other Moderate Innovator countries. Methodology: In the study a multivariate analysis and zero unitarization methods were applied. These methods allowed for a division of Moderate Innovator countries into four groups and for a multivariate analysis of firms? innovation activities in Poland and other EU countries with a level of innovation similar to Poland. The study was based on data from the European Innovation Scoreboard 2016 relating to dimensions of firm activities: firm in-vestments, linkage & entrepreneurship and intellectual assets. The study referred to the period 2008?2015. Findings & Value added: This paper contributes to the existing literature by providing new insight on understanding the issues related to firms? innovation activities. The analysis has revealed several conclusions. One of them indicated the highest distance of Polish firms to those from the other Moderate Innovator countries, in terms of SMEs innovating in-house, innovative SMEs collaborating with others and public-private co-publications. The findings have practical and policy implications. It is assumed that the obtained results may be useful for firms, regions and countries in adaptation to uncertainty in the environment and, therefore, in maintaining  competitive advantage capacity.
