Opis:
In ANOVA we are mainly based on inter-treatment comparisons. Another common problems arising in biometric studies (especially in biomedical studies) is that of comparing two groups of patients (treatment and a control group) based on multiple response (called multiple endpoints). In this paper we present the continuos and discrete approaches to multiple endpoints. In the case of continuous multiple endpoints we have common assumption in that the covariance matrices in group of the control and observation are equal. Let ρ be the correlation coefficient between Y₁, and Yj endpoints and ρ₁, be the raw ρ-value obtained using some tests statistics for the i-th endpoints. We can also proposed a general bootstrap approach which can be used to estimate the ρ-value without making any parametric and distributional or correctional assumptions. Binary outcomes are common in medical studies. We present the modified Bonfferroni procedures and permutational procedures and we compare these procedures to each other.

The paper addresses multiple targets tracking problem encountered in number of situations in signal and image processing. In this paper, we present an efficient filtering algorithm to perform accurate estimation in jump Markov nonlinear systems, which we aim to contribute in solving the problem of multiple targets tracking using bearings-only measurements. The idea of this algorithm consists of the combination between the multiple model approach and particle filtering methods, which give a nonlinear multiple model particle filters algorithm. This algorithm is used to estimate the trajectories of multiple targets assumed to be nonlinear, from their noisy bearings.

In this paper are introduced fundamentals, characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of Multiple Access (MA) employed as transmission techniques in the Maritime Mobile Satellite Communications (MMSC) between ships and Coast Earth Station (CES) via Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) or Not-GEO satellite constellations. In fixed satellite communication, as a rule, especially in MMSC many users are active at the same time. The problem of simultaneous communications between many single or multipoint mobile satellite users can be solved by using MA technique, such as Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) and Random (Packet) Division Multiple Access (RDMA). Since the resources of the systems such as the transmitting power and the bandwidth are limited, it is advisable to use the channels with complete charge and to create a different MA to the channel. This generates a problem of summation and separation of signals in the transmission and reception parts, respectively. Deciding this problem consists in the development of orthogonal channels of transmission in order to divide signals from various users unambiguously on the reception part.

In this paper we present how to apply the ideas of bootstrap and closed testing procedures on a multiple comparison test. We consider L samples of size n2, ..., n, from L distributions, with expected values uv u2, ..., uL, are to be compared. We consider the stepwise procedures introduced by Ho l m (1977). The test in each step is performed by means of the bootstrap technique. This procedures are always closed, but just the fact that a procedure is stepwise does not guarantee that it is closed. We discuss whether the appropriate conditions are met to make our bootstrap procedure closed. When the test is performed on very few observations the significance level is sometimes only approximately kept. However, since the approximation are due to the bootstrap, and not to the test procedure itself, the multiple test discussed in this paper is likely to keep the multiple level of significance.

We propose a methodology to support decisions on how to construct rankings of objects which account for decision makers' preferences. As it is not always so that objects to be ranked are known upfront, the methodology is focused on constructing ranking algorithms rather than rankings themselves. The methodology builds on Multiple Criteria Decision Making paradigms. To operationalize it we provide a consistent interactive framework which allows the decision maker to express his preferences with respect to objects directly, with respect to the criteria selection process (multiple criteria model building), and with respect to attributes resulting from the selected criteria. The methodology is illustrated by a numerical example of municipality rankings.

Opis:
Big Data poses a new challenge to statistical data analysis. An enormous growth of available data and their multidimensionality challenge the usefulness of classical methods of analysis. One of the most important stages in Big Data analysis is the verification of hypotheses and conclusions. With the growth of the number of hypotheses, each of which is tested at significance level, the risk of erroneous rejections of true null hypotheses increases. Big Data analysts often deal with sets consisting of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of inferences. FWER-controlling procedures recommended by Tukey [1953], are effective only for small families of inferences. In cases of numerous families of inferences in Big Data analyses it is better to control FDR, that is the expected value of the fraction of erroneous rejections out of all rejections. The paper presents marginal procedures of multiple testing which allow for controlling FDR as well as their interesting alternative, that is the joint procedure of multiple testing MTP based on resampling [Dudoit, van der Laan 2008]. A wide range of applications, the possibility of choosing the Type I error rate and easily accessible software (MTP procedure is implemented in R multtest package) are their obvious advantages. Unfortunately, the results of the analysis of the MTP procedure obtained by Werft and Benner [2009] revealed problems with controlling FDR in the case of numerous sets of hypotheses and small samples. The paper presents a simulation experiment conducted to investigate potential restrictions of MTP procedure in case of large numbers of inferences and large sample sizes, which is typical of Big Data analyses. The experiment revealed that, regardless of the sample size, problems with controlling FDR occur when multiple testing procedures based on minima of unadjusted p-values ( ) are applied. Moreover, the experiment indicated the serious instability of the results of the MTP procedure (dependent on the number of bootstrap samplings) if multiple testing procedures based on minima of unadjusted p-values ( ) are used. The experiment described in the paper and the results obtained by Werft, Benner [2009] and Denkowska [2013] indicate the need for further research on MTP procedure.

The paper addresses the issue of multiple criteria rankings of infrastructural projects (buildings, roads, etc.). Although the amount of literature devoted to this subject is considerable, all methods proposed produce subjective rankings, dependent on a direct or indirect definition of weighting coefficients applicable to subsequent evaluation criteria. Infrastructural projects are usually selected and approved collegially, however, by a group of decision makers with preferences that may potentially differ significantly. Therefore, an objectified ranking, independent from subjectively defined weighting coefficients, is needed for infrastructural projects. Such a ranking is proposed, analyzed and applied by the authors of this paper. This ranking depends originally only on the multiple objective evaluation data, i.e. the values of evaluation criteria related to decision scenarios or alternatives. Such an approach does not render a fully objective ranking, since one of this kind does not exist at all. Even the choice of the ranking method is a subjective decision, but it is objectified to the extent possible. The paper presents several examples of multiple criteria evaluation of infrastructural projects, derived from literature, and compares subjective rankings published in literature with objectified rankings that are independent of weighting coefficients.

Opis:
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the influence of Multiple Intelligences Theory on the process of acquiring a foreign language. MI theory developed by Howard Gardner (1983), says that every single individual possesses eight different types of intelligences: Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Musical, Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Naturalist. It stands in opposition to the belief that intelligence is an innate entity which we inherit or we are born with. Nevertheless, not everybody has eight very well-developed intelligences, some may be dominant or underdeveloped. Moreover, Gardner claims that all these types of intelligence may be improved. As a result, learners of English language are able to know themselves better and find appropriate milieu in which they would feel comfortable and safe. Different intelligence capacities provide various ways of knowing, acquiring, understanding, and learning about the surrounding world. Hence, teaching with the knowledge concerning students’ dominant intelligences is perceived as fruitful and lucrative because then educators may nurture their intelligences.

Conical multiple-jet nozzles, which reduce the risk of nozzle openings being blocked, are tested for their effectiveness in noise reduction. Nozzles with different exit spacings are tested. It is found that the multiple-jet design significantly decreases noise levels in the audible range by shifting emitted sound power to higher and ultrasonic frequencies. No significant difference in noise characteristics between exits distributed on a flat plane and beveled exits on a conical surface is observed. When the exits are more densely distributed, there is a trend of spectra shifting back toward the low frequency. This phenomenon is found to increase sound levels in a certain range of frequencies much lower than the peak one. Although this increase contributes little to the total emitted sound power, it is an important factor in determining the sound levels of audible noise.

Opis:
Progress in life expectancy and the growing number of people living to old age intensify the phenomenon of multi-morbidity, defined as the coexistence of several chronic diseases. By exploiting all the medical information in death certificates, the multiple causes of death (MCoD) approach serves to investigate complex pathological processes that lead eventually to death. This is the first MCoD analysis for Poland and its objective is twofold: to examine the quality of information on contributing causes of death, in particular in the regional dimension, and to assess the scale of multi-morbidity involving conditions that are becoming more and more frequent in ageing populations. The analysis is carried out for all deaths that took place in Poland in 2013. The results show that medical doctors issuing death certificates often define contributing causes of death, but a large part of this information includes unknown or ill-defined conditions. Several conditions favour the certification of well-defined contributing causes: when death occurs in hospital, or is due to underlying causes other than cardiovascular, the number of contributing conditions is higher. Important regional differences are observed in this regard. The analysis highlights the importance of diseases that are rarely certified as the underlying causes, but often contribute to mortal conditions, such as diseases of the blood and the blood-forming organs, diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, diseases of the genitourinary system or mental and behavioural disorders.

Various real-world problem areas, such as engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, social, and other problems can be modeled with mathematics to be more easily studied and done calculations. One mathematical model that is very well known and is often used to solve various problem areas in the real world is multiple linear regression. One of the stages of working on multiple linear regression models is the preparation of normal equations which is a system of linear equations using the least-squares method. If more independent variables are used, the more linear equations are obtained. So that other mathematical tools that can be used to simplify and help to solve the system of linear equations are matrices. Based on the properties and operations of the matrix, the linear equation system produces a symmetric covariance matrix. If the covariance matrix is also positive definite, then the Cholesky decomposition method can be used to solve the system of linear equations obtained through the least-squares method in multiple linear regression. Based on the background of the problem outlined, such that this paper aims to construct a multiple linear regression model using Cholesky decomposition. Then, the application is used in the numerical simulation and real case.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease which affects the central nervous system. Currently, there are numerous disease-modifying therapies for this condition. Most of them address the inflammatory aspects of the disease and are most effective in the relapsing-remitting stages of multiple sclerosis. However, none of them can completely stop the progression of MS and they are usually associated with adverse effects. There is an ongoing search for novel approaches that involve different modes of action. Here, we discuss examples of new immunomodulating agents such as antigen-specific therapies, neuroprotectants, regenerative strategies and gut microbiota modification.

In the second step, non-dominated solutions were identified by using an elitist evolutionary algorithm for multiple optimization. In the third step, an interactive procedure has been applied to choose the final solution. An example of a portfolio of IT projects was used for computations.

This paper deals with multiple soft fault diagnosis of nonlinear analog circuits comprising bipolar transistors characterized by the Ebers-Moll model. Resistances of the circuit and beta forward factor of a transistor are considered as potentially faulty parameters. The proposed diagnostic method exploits a strongly nonlinear set of algebraic type equations, which may possess multiple solutions, and is capable of finding different sets of the parameters values which meet the diagnostic test. The equations are written on the basis of node analysis and include DC voltages measured at accessible nodes, as well as some measured currents. The unknown variables are node voltages and the parameters which are considered as potentially faulty. The number of these parameters is larger than the number of the accessible nodes. To solve the set of equations the block relaxation method is used with different assignments of the variables to the blocks. Next, the solutions are corrected using the Newton-Raphson algorithm. As a result, one or more sets of the parameters values which satisfy the diagnostic test are obtained. The proposed approach is illustrated with a numerical example.

This work examines the efficacy of deep learning (DL) based non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) receivers in vehicular communications (VC). Analytical formulations for the outage probability (OP), symbol error rate (SER), and ergodic sum rate for the researched vehicle networks are established Rusing i.i.d. Nakagami-m fading links. Standard receivers, such as least square (LS) and minimum mean square error (MMSE), are outperformed by the stacked long-short term memory (S-LSTM) based DL-NOMA receiver. Under real time propagation circumstances, including the cyclic prefix (CP) and clipping distortion, the simulation curves compare the performance of MMSE and LS receivers with that of the DL-NOMA receiver. According to numerical statistics, NOMA outperforms conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) by roughly 20% and has a high sum rate when considering i.i.d. fading links.

The range of applications of classical multiple testing procedures is limited due to model assumptions, and in many cases classic solutions are non-existent. In such situations non-classical multiple testing procedures allow to control the effect of multiple testing. Although they are popular for computational simplicity and a wide range of applications, marginal multiple testing procedures do not take into account joint distribution of test statistics, which make them more conservative than joint multiple testing procedures. The range of applications of joint procedures introduced by Westfall and Young (1993) is limited due to the subset pivotality requirement. Thus, joint multiple testing procedures suggested by Dudoit and van der Laan (2008) seem very promising. A wide range of applications, the possibility of choosing the Type I error rate and easily accessible software (MTP procedure is implemented in R multtest package) are their obvious advantages. Unfortunately, the results of the analysis of MPT procedure obtained by Werft and Benner (2009) revealed that it does not control FDR in case of numerous sets of hypotheses and small samples. Furthermore, the simulation experiment presented in the article showed that MTP procedure does not control FWER, either.

Opis:
Poszukiwanie mechanizmów harmonizujących i stabilizujących procesy ekonomiczne prowadziło do stawiania praktycznego problemu znajdowania, stabilności i jednoznaczności równowagi jako głównego obszaru badań (stabilizacja równowagi w systemie).
The central problem in mainstream economics was in particular the search for mechanisms harmonizing and stabilizing economic processes (the invisible hand of the market). This led to the practical problem of finding, stability and uniqness of the equlibrium as the main area of research (stabilization of the system). The study of the states of equilibrium is important and interesting, but it should not concern mainly the conditions of existence and uniqueness. The possibility of positive feedback in the economic system generates two new problems, such as multiple equilibrium and dynamics (evolution) of the economic system. These are two important effects of the economic system’s reaction to changes (shocks) in conditions of instability. The aim of the article is to present the problems of multiple equilibria and the concepts of complexity economics in contemporary literature on the subject.

Opis:
We present a novel encryption method for multiple images in a discrete multiple-parameter fractional Fourier transform scheme, using complex encoding, theta modulation and spectral fusion. All pairs of original images are encoded separately into a complex signal. The spectrum of each complex signal can then be scattered into various positions in the spectral plane and multiplexed into one spectral image with a combination of theta modulation and spectral fusion. After Fourier transforming back to the spatial domain, the multiplexed signal is encrypted in the discrete multiple-parameter fractional Fourier transform domain. Information about the original images can only be successfully decrypted given the possession of all correct keys. The parameters of chaotic pixel scrambling for the proposed method enlarge the key space. Moreover, the proposed method solves the crosstalk problem of multiple images and improves the multiplexing capacity. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
