Opis:
Waviness is a parameter used to complete information on the machined surface state. There is little scientific and technical information on the influence exerted by the cutting conditions and the workpiece material hardness on the values of some parameters that define the waviness of milled surface. No works have been identified to present such information for dry high-speed face milling applied to hard steel workpieces. A factorial experiment with four independent variables at three variation levels was planned to model the influence of milling speed, feed, cutting depth, and steel hardness on the total heights of the profile and surface waviness for dry high-speed face milling. Mathematical processing of experimental results was used to identify the power type function and empirical mathematical models. These models highlight the direction of variation and the intensity of influence exerted by the considered input factors on the values of two waviness parameters in the case of dry high-speed face milling of samples made of four hard steels. It has been observed that the increase in steel hardness increases the total heights of the profile and surface waviness. In the case of two types of steel, a good correlation was identified between the values of the total profile waviness height and the total surface waviness height, respectively, using the Pearson correlation coefficient.

This article presents our own model researches, relating to the down milling process of Aluminium alloy (Al6061) and Titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V), with a tool made of sintered carbides. These investigations pay the special attention to the impact of the tool rigidity on the process of chip formation. The simulation calculations have been carried out for two cases of the cutting process: case 1 - assuming an ideally rigid construction of a milling cutter (length of tool does not impact its deflection under the cutting forces); case 2 - it is possible that the tool can be subjected to deflection under the cutting forces (length of a tool part is counted from the holder end to the contact point of a cutting edge with the machining material).

The paper presents the results of studies on quartzite milling in a ball mill. The milling was conducted in a batch system, for diversified compositions of balls. The milling product was subjected to granulometrical, morphological and strength analyses. On the basis of the developed Reid's theory and using the Austin-Gardner equation, a form of the function circumscribing the specific rate of comminution of selected size fractions was determined. The values of the breakage rate function bi, for the mill's apparatus conditions were determined. The impact was investigated for a variable number of grinding media contact points on the values of specific rate S and the values of the breakage rate function bij. Furthermore, the values of coefficients occurring in the equations circumscribing the specific rate of milling S and breakage parameter bij were determined.

Opis:
During the machining processes, heat gets generated as a result of plastic deformation of metal and friction along the tool–chip and tool–work piece interface. In materials having high thermal conductivity, like aluminium alloys, large amount of this heat is absorbed by the work piece. This results in the rise in the temperature of the work piece, which may lead to dimensional inaccuracies, surface damage and deformation. So, it is needed to control rise in the temperature of the work piece. This paper focuses on the measurement, analysis and prediction of work piece temperature rise during the dry end milling operation of Al 6063. The control factors used for experimentation were number of flutes, spindle speed, depth of cut and feed rate. The Taguchi method was employed for the planning of experimentation and L18 orthogonal array was selected. The temperature rise of the work piece was measured with the help of K-type thermocouple embedded in the work piece. Signal to noise (S/N) ratio analysis was carried out using the lower-the-better quality characteristics. Depth of cut was identified as the most significant factor affecting the work piece temperature rise, followed by spindle speed. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to find out the significant parameters affecting the work piece temperature rise. ANOVA results were found to be in line with the S/N ratio analysis. Regression analysis was used for developing empirical equation of temperature rise. The temperature rise of the work piece was calculated using the regression equation and was found to be in good agreement with the measured values. Finally, confirmation tests were carried out to verify the results obtained. From the confirmation test it was found that the Taguchi method is an effective method to determine optimised parameters for minimization of work piece temperature.

Opis:
Aluminum alloys are widely used today in plastic injection molds in the automotive and aerospace industries due to their high strength and weight ratio, good corrosion and fatigue resistance as well as high feed rates. The 5754 aluminum alloy has high corrosion resistance and a structure suitable for cold forming. In this study, an AA 5754-H111 tempered aluminum alloy with the dimensions of 80£80£30 mm was used, and some of the materials were cryogenically heat treated. For the milling operations, φ12 mm diameter 76 mm height uncoated as well as TiCN and TiAlN coated end mills were used. Different levels of cutting depth (1.25, 2.0, 2.5 mm), cutting speed (50, 80, 100 m/ min), feed rate (265, 425, 530 m/ min) and machining pattern (concentric, back and forth and inward helical) were used. The number of experiments was reduced from 486 to 54 using the Taguchi L54 orthogonal array. The values obtained at the end of the experiments were evaluated using the signal-to-noise ratio, ANOVA, three-dimensional graphs and the regression method. Based on the result of the verification experiments, the processing accuracy for surface roughness was improved from 3.20 μm to 0.90 μm, with performance increase of 71.88%.

Opis:
High-quality products include those with better surface quality and texture, close dimensional tolerances and form accuracies at precise level, increase fatigue life and burr-free. Burr formation is one of the most common inevitable facts occurring in all material removal processes, reduces assembly and machined part quality. But, burr formation during milling is a more complex mechanism compare to remaining machining burrs and leads to numerous difficulties during the deburring process. To prevent this, one should optimize the combination of cutting parameters during machining itself. In order to build up a link between quality and productivity and to attain the same in the cost-effective way, the present work concentrate on multi objective optimization of CNC end milling process parameters. Multiple performance characteristics with respect to surface quality and performance index like assembly work have been put up, to assess an equivalent single quality index (called grey relational grade) has been optimized finally by Grey based Taguchi method. After that priority weight of individual quality and performance attributes has been estimated by entropy measurement technique on the basis of relative significance and check the feasibility of the proposed technique has been demonstrated in this context.

Do pomiaru momentu skrawania użyto siłomierza obrotowego Kistler 9125A. Istnieje zakres prędkości skrawania vc, dla którego chropowatość powierzchni jest najmniejsza. Wykazano, że wartości momentu skrawania oraz amplitudy są silnie skorelowane z właściwościami materiału.
Titanium alloys are widely used in many industries. Because of the shape and dimensional accuracy requirements and surface quality, they are often subject to finishing machining. However, due to their properties they are difficult-to-cut materials. This paper presents the results of studies on the effect of cutting speed vc and feed per tooth fz on cutting torque, torque amplitude and Surface roughness during milling of samples made of Ti6Al4V, WT3-1, WT22 and OT4-1 titanium alloys. The research was carried out on a 3-axis machining centre. Kistler 9125A rotary dynamometer was used to measure the cutting torque. It was found that there is a range of cutting speeds vc for which the surface roughness is the smallest. It has been also shown that both the values and amplitudes of cutting torque are strongly correlated with the properties of the material.

The quality of the machined surface is one of the most important criteria when products are processed. For different materials, there are differentially fitting processing technologies and cutting modes to ensure that the parts have surface roughness in the allowed value range. In this paper, the research on surface roughness of machining tropical wood by milling method is presented. It is necessary to establish and solve the optimal problems with such aims as the highest surface quality, minimum cutting power and the highest productivity in the optimal cutting mode. Using a great amount of experimental planning and many constrained nonlinear optimization problem solving methods, the authors built a process and solved the problem to determine the optimal cutting parameters such as feed per tooth Sz, tool tip radius ρ, depth of cut h, etc. that satisfy the above object. Research object is tropical wood chukrasia and this is the database to design woodworking machines by milling method and choose a reasonable working mode when processing on CNC machines.

Opis:
In modern production, milling is considered the widespread cutting process in the formatting field. It remains important to study this manufacturing process as it can be subject to some parasitic phenomena that can degrade surface roughness of the machined part, increase tool wear and reduce spindle life span. In fact, the best quality work piece is obtained with a suitable choice of parameters and cutting conditions. In another hand, the study of tool vibrations and the cutting force attitude is related to the study of bearings as they present an essential part in the spindle system. In this work, a modeling of a High Speed Milling (HSM) spindle supported by two pair of Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) is presented. The spindle is modeled by Timoshenko beam finite elements where six degrees of freedom are taken into account. The rigid displacements are also introduced in the modeling. Gyroscopic and centrifugal terms are included in the general equation. The bearings reaction forces are modeled as linear functions of journal displacement and velocity in the bearing clearance. A cutting force model for peripheral milling is proposed to estimate the tool-tip dynamic responses as well as dynamic cutting forces which are also numerically investigated. The time history of response, orbit, FFT diagram at the tool-tip center and the bearings dynamic coefficients are plotted to analyze dynamic behavior of the spindle.
