Opis:
The influence of the microwave power on the internal Josephson Junction System (JJS) in granular high T$\text{}_{c}$, superconductors was investigated using EPR methodology. Josephson Microwave Absorption signal was used to monitor local temperature of the Josephson Junction System while the bulk sample temperature was measured by a thermocouple. The effect of the JJS overheating is discussed as the consequence of an interaction between JJS, microwave field and the bulk sample.

Free radicals formed during thermal sterilization of eucerinum anhydricum – the pharmaceutical base were examined by an X-band (9.3 GHz) spectrometer. Eucerinum anhydricum was sterilized at different physical conditions according to the Polish Pharmacopeia norms. The samples were heated at temperatures: 160°C (120 min), 170°C (60 min), and 180°C (30 min). The aim of this study is to compare free radical concentration and effect of microwave power on EPR spectra of eucerinum anhydricum base thermally sterilized at different temperatures and periods of time. The effect of time storage on the free radicals in the heated samples was tested. Free radical concentrations in the sample stored 15 min strongly decreased with the increasing of sterilization temperature, probably as the result of recombination. Storage caused strong decrease of free radical concentrations in the samples, probably as the result of interactions with oxygen. It was observed to be independent of sterilization conditions from 2 days of storage and longer. Because of the lowest free radical concentration, for eucerinum anhydricum thermal sterilization at 180°C for 30 min is recommended. The sterilized samples should be stored at inert atmosphere without oxygen molecules. Fast spin-lattice relaxation processes existed in sterilized eucerinum anhydricum. The character of changes of amplitudes and linewidths of EPR lines with increasing of microwave power was the same for different storage times. The parameters of thermal sterilization and storage time influenced free radical concentration in eucerinum anhydricum, but magnetic spin-lattice interactions were unchanged. The usefulness of EPR spectroscopy in optimization of thermal sterilization process of eucerinum anhydricum was confirmed.

Paramagnetic centers in the two exemplary synthetic and natural dental biocompatible materials applied in implantology were examined by the use of an X-band (9.3 GHz) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. The EPR spectra were measured in the range of microwave power 2.2–70 mW. The aims of this work were to compare paramagnetic centers concentrations in different dental biocompatible materials and to determine the effect of microwave power on parameters of their EPR spectra. It is the very fi rst and innovatory examination of paramagnetic centers in these materials. It was pointed out that paramagnetic centers existed in both natural (~1018 spin/g) and synthetic (~1019 spin/g) dental biocompatible materials, but the lower free radical concentration characterized the natural sample. Continuous microwave saturation of EPR spectra indicated that faster spin-lattice relaxation processes existed in synthetic dental biocompatible materials than in natural material. Linewidths (ΔBpp) of the EPR spectra of the natural dental material slightly increased for the higher microwave powers. Such effect was not observed for the synthetic material. The broad EPR lines (ΔBpp): 2.4 mT, 3.9 mT, were measured for the natural and synthetic dental materials, respectively. Probably strong dipolar interactions between paramagnetic centers in the studied samples may be responsible for their line broadening. EPR spectroscopy is the useful experimental method in the examination of paramagnetic centers in dental biocompatible materials.

This paper presents a broadband Switch-Mode Power Amplifier (SMPA) using a Band-Pass Filter (BPF) at the Output Matching Network (OMN). The proposed SMPA integrates a microstrip BPF as an output impedance matching network to significantly reduce the final circuit size. The microstrip lines of the filter simultaneously play the role of filtering and impedance matching. This proposed method reduces the size of the PA and reduces the power dissipation as much as possible. The BPF is placed at the output of the circuit using microstrip lines and the RT Duroid 6006 substrate. This BPF covers a wide bandwidth ranging from 3.0 GHz to 4.4 GHz. Simulation results show 9-14 dB gain with 44 - 56.6 % drain efficiency ( DE %), and the output power of 39 – 41.3 dBm would be achieved across the frequency band from 3.0 GHz to 4.4 GHz.

Opis:
Calibration of RF power sensors is crucial issue in RF power measurements. Many calibration laboratories use the direct comparison transfer system with a signal generator and a power splitter. Increasing performance of modern vector network analyzers makes it possible to perform a power sensor calibration with acceptable uncertainties. The main advantage when using a VNA is a simple measurement setup with a wide frequency range (up to 50 GHz, limited only by the VNA and the standard power sensor), where all of required components, i.e. signal generator, a directional coupler and a reference power indicator are built in the VNA technology. This paper reports performing a VNA-based RF power sensors calibration for 10 MHz – 18 GHz band, carried out in the Laboratory of Electric, Electronic and Optoelectronic Metrology at the National Institute of Telecommunications in Warsaw, Poland. In order to validate the proposed solution two of power sensors were calibrated at a reference laboratory. The validation consisted of two steps. At first, one of those characterized power sensors was calibrated at our laboratory in direct comparison transfer system. Finally, the results obtained from the VNA-based system were compared with the previously obtained ones.

The effect of temperature on the changes of the EPR spectra of the analyzed melanin complexes with the microwave power was determined. The spin-lattice relaxation is faster at higher temperatures for all the tested melanin complexes.

The aim of this paper is to present a novel microwave microplasma source generated in different gases at atmospheric pressure. The design, rule of operation and experimental investigations of the new microwave microplasma source are described. The main advantage of the presented microwave microplasma source is its small size, simplicity, and low cost of construction and operation. The microplasma has a form of a small plasma jet of dimensions of a few mm, depending on the kind of gas, gas flow rate, and absorbed microwave power. Presented in this paper results of experimental investigations were obtained with an atmospheric pressure argon, krypton, nitrogen, and air microplasma, sustained by microwaves of standard frequency of 2.45 GHz. The absorbed microwave power was up to 70 W. The gas flow rate was from 2 to 25 l/min. The miniature size, simplicity of the source and stability of the microplasma allow to conclude that the presented new microwave microplasma source can find practical applications in various fields.

The primary research objective is to reduce the dangers of rogue drones in our lives and the consequences of extremist groups, drug dealers, and organised criminals using them. The growing number of incidents involving modified drones proves the weakness of existing technology in stopping and neutralising errant drones such as the hand-held gun jammer, trained eagle, R.F. jammer, and others. This technology is not very likely to able to knock out a rogue drone and is incapable of stopping programmable drones. This article aims to examine the directed energy of HPM (high power microwaves) in using the electromagnetic field strength energy to damage the drone’s structure or burn its PCB board electronics. It goes on to analyse electronic attack using microwave power with high frequency to immediately switch off drones. The effectiveness of high microwave power for disrupting drones at different distances and in different weather conditions is evaluated. A study of the conical horn antenna of the magnetron coupling system, which has an operating frequency of 2.45 GHz, is also included.

The subject of this work is optimization of outputs of L-band high power microwave tubes. These outputs are constructed as coaxial-to-waveguide transitions with a vacuum barrier in a form of glass or ceramic cup. The goal of optimization is to obtain sufficiently low reflection loss in the predefined frequency band and to avoid so called hot spots caused by excessive dissipation of microwave power in parts of the cup. Electromagnetic simulator has been applied to model the behavior of the optimized transition and to propose its optimum shape. The proposed solutions were verified by Z.E. The changes experienced in technology due to the third industrial revolution have over the years contributed immensely to the development of efficient devices and systems. As a result, solutions have been provided to challenges encountered in the heating industry. However, higher efficiency and better performance has undoubtedly been highly sort after. This paper presents the complete industrial development of a new system of a microwave device for use in S-band networks (2.45 GHz ISM band in this application): a vector network analyzer (VNA). The VNA, which is designed based on the six-port measurement principle, provides accurate measurements of both magnitude and phase of the load reflection coefficient. The device is designed to have high power handling capabilities and works under the full operating conditions of high-power microwave generators. Initial measurements show that the device perform stable and can perform temperature-independent measurements over protracted periods. The system is suited for on-line monitoring and control of network parameters in industrial waveguide applications.

We report on the numerical investigation of the resistive sensor for the 78-118 GHz range. A three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method was applied to simulate the wave propagation within a waveguide segment with the semiconductor sensor attached to a wider wall of the wave-guide. The electric field distribution, voltage standing-wave ratio and the average electric field dependences on frequency have been determined for several sets of dimensions and specific resistances of the sample. It is demonstrated that a proper selection of the dimensions and specific resistance of the sample can compensate the waveguide dispersion and the decrease of the electron heating effect with frequency. Therefore, a nearly constant sensitivity of the sensor can be obtained for the entire frequency range.

The need for repetitive high-power microwave systems, for instance within the scope of convoy protection, requires the availability of compact, repetitive pulsed-power generators. The development and the first experimental results of an upgraded balanced ISL Marx generator for future repetitive operations at pulse repetition frequencies in the order of 100 Hz are introduced. A key objective is to keep the fundamental modular coaxial concept by reason of its scalability and compactness. Simulation models were developed under the PSpice software package in order to investigate the charging and discharging phases of the Marx generator and also to determine the design criteria for repetitive operations. The charging resistors were replaced by ultracompact inductors for rapid charging, being able to withstand pulsed voltages up to 60 kV and pulsed currents up to 1.4 kA during the discharge phase. An improved type of strontium-titanate high-voltage ceramic capacitor was successfully tested experimentally up to 70 kV. Each new elementary stage of the Marx generator consists of eight 1.1 nF sectors of a cylinder capacitors mounted in parallel, two charging inductors of about 17.8 μH and two halves of spherical spark gaps. The pressurized self-triggered gas switches are arranged along the axis for fast consecutive breakdown thanks to the UV radiation emitted during the breakdown in each gap. The stages are installed in individual fibreglass housings. First experimental results of a 4-stage Marx generator in repetitive operation, driven by a 4 kW capacitor charging power supply up to a maximum voltage of 40 kV, are presented.

It is suggested to use this mode for the creation of optoelectronic microwave systems with the controlled amplitude and phase of the output signal and for the high-accuracy indication of optical radiation.

Opis:
Investigations of detection of high power microwaves in planar asymmetrically shaped microwave diodes on the basis of Al$\text{}_{x}$Ga$\text{}_{1-x}$As ternary semiconductors with various AlAs mole fraction are presented. The principle of operation of the microwave diodes is based on carrier heating phenomena in asymmetrically shaped homogeneous semiconductor structure due to different distribution of the electric field strength along the sample. Experimental results of microwave detection on the barrier-less asymmetrically shaped diodes are presented paying special attention to the homogeneity of Al$\text{}_{x}$Ga$\text{}_{1-x}$As which was monitored by photoluminescence technique.

Opis:
The low power reactor for microwave chemical vapor deposition process is described. The rotating Mo holder of 12 mm diameter and 6 mm height with the diamond substrate was heated by 2.45 GHz microwaves to temperature about 800°C in the range of (1.5-7)% $CH_{4}//H_{2}$ mixture to create plasma at pressure 70 Tr. Stabilization of the holder temperature was performed by optical observation of radiation from the holder followed by adjusting of the magnetron power. Diamond detectors are produced using microwave chemical vapor deposition process grown on single crystal diamond high pressure high temperature Sumimoto substrates, [100] oriented. The response of diamond detectors for X-rays has been measured in the current mode using medical X-rays tube. The linear response of the diamond detector current versus X-ray tube current (dose) is presented.

The FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) method has proven to be effective in modeling high-frequency electromagnetic problems in telecommunications industry. Recently it has been successfully applied in microwave power engineering. In order to accurately model scenarios typical in this field one has to deal with the movement of objects placed inside cavities. This paper describes a simple algorithm that makes it possible to take into account object rotation - important in simulations of domestic microwave ovens. Results of example simulations are presented and an experimental verification of the simulation tool is performed.

Opis:
Microwave owens can potentially emit electromagnetic fields (EMF) at levels affecting the safety and health of people employed in catering and authorized service centres. Theoretically, the manufacturer should guarantee that microwave ovens are safe, devices on the market should comply with emission standards. The levels of EMF in the vicinity of over 170 devices: presented in this article, indicate that appropriate protective measures are necessary. Current regulations on emission limits, which manufacturers of microwave ovens should comply with, are based on ICNIRP recommendations and meet human exposure limits for EMF. The regulations in Poland are more restrictive. This article discusses all those aspects, particularly in relation to staff in catering and in service centres, where there is no effective supervision of the working conditions. The ability to ensure safe household use of microwave ovens is considered, too.

In this paper, we describe the development and design procedure of the new kind of coaxial TEm,1 modes generator based on ring resonator with coupling apertures. The generator enables excitation of subsequent TEm,1 modes in a cylindrical waveguide. The proposed design method allows to obtain high purity TEm,1 modes. The angular mode number can be chosen by replacing the plate with coupling apertures. Structure and parameters of the generator was optimized using CST-Microwave Studio. The mode generator was fabricated and checked on the test bench in an anechoic chamber. The measured field distributions confirm excitation of the desired TEm,1 modes. A good agreement between simulations and measurements is obtained. The presented mode generator, operating in non-rotating TEm,1 modes, is easy to fabricate, and suitable for cold-test experiments of high power components and devices.

The paper describes adaptive amplifier design with varactors and pin diodes as regulators of matching networks. As examples the two amplifiers with SHF-0189 HFET transistor and different matching sections were designed and manufactured. The output power level of 27 dBm and gain higher than 13 dB within L and S-band have been achieved. The amplifier design methodology is based on the small-signal approach and DC characteristics of transistors and regulators. Amplifier adaptivity allows us to remotely control the chosen parameters such as: frequency range, output power level, gain and etc.

ILC machine–International Liner Collider, is one of two accelerators e+e-just under design and advanced consideration to be built with final energy of colliding electron and positron beams over 1 TeV. An alternative project to ILC is CLIC in CERN The ILC machine is an important complementary addition for the research potential of the LHC accelerator complex. The required length of ILC is minimally 30 km, but some versions of the TDR estimates mention nearly 50km. Superconducting RF linacs will be built using well established 1,3 GHz TESLA technology using ultrapure niobium or Nb3Sn resonant microwave cavities of RRR class, of ultimate finesse, working with gradients over 35MV/m, while some versions of the design mention ultimate confinement as high as 50MV/m. Several teams from Poland (Kraków. Warszawa, Wrocław – IFJ-PAN, AGH, UJ, NCBJ, UW, PW, PWr, INT-PAN) participate in the global design effort for this machine – including detectors, cryogenics, and SRF systems. Now it seems that the ILC machine will be built in Japan, during the period of 2016-2026. If true, Japan will turn to a world super-power in accelerator technology no.3 after CERN and USA. The paper summarizes the state-of-the-art of technical and administration activities around the immense ILC and CLIC machines, with emphasis on potential participation of Polish teams in the global effort of newly established LCC –The Linear Collider Consortium.
