The analysis of the content of local periodicals makes it possible to indicate two types of women’s issues. One presents both historical as well as modern images of women, while the other discusses women’s issues in relation to political, economic and social phenomena and events. The author of the paper attempts to answer the question of what women have found interesting and what they want to read about; whether we are dealing with sexism in the local press; whether publications on women’s issues are more frequently written by men or women; whether there is a set division of positions and competences available to women in the operation of the local press and whether the fact that editors-in-chief are women influences the quality and quantity of women’s topics discussed. The conclusions corroborate the main hypothesis, namely that although there are certain exceptions, the local press largely reinforces a stereo- typical approach to women.

The aim of the article is to study the national legislation, the results of which evidence a certain disagreements between legal terminology and understanding of the role and functions of the state in mass media. Due to existence of certain reasons, both objective (complexity of regulatory and legislative procedures) and subjective (cumbersomeness of the state administration apparatus, excessive bureaucracy, in competency), the development of the state information policy is lagging behind changes in social development. In particular, it relates to the change of a model and review of the fundamental mechanisms of the state support of media in Ukraine. Most urgently this issue concerns the print media for local distribution markets.

Zasadniczym celem podjętym w artykule jest charakterystyka medialnego dyskursu o wielokulturowości w mediach lokalnych i pytanie, czy dyskurs przyczynia się do jakościowych, pozytywnych zmian w sferze społecznej, ekonomicznej, środowiskowej i budowania społeczeństw opartych na wartościach w pełni demokratycznych. W szczególności interesują mnie dwa zagadnienia: środki językowe w tworzeniu dyskursu o wielokulturowości oraz kategorie tematyczne i znaczeniowe definiujące wielokulturowość Lublina. Materiał badawczy tworzą artykuły prasowe lokalnych tytułów: internetowe wydania dzienników Kurier Lubelski i Dziennik Wschodni oraz bezpłatnych tygodników lubelskich: Nowy Tydzień i Nasze Miasto. W analizach własnych wykorzystane zostały: analiza zawartości i analiza pól semantycznych.
The main purpose of the article is to examine the media discourse on multiculturalism in local media and the question whether the discourse contributes to qualitative, positive changes in the social, economic and environmental spheres and whether it shapes the societies based on fully democratic values. In particular, I am interested in two issues: language measures in creating a discourse on multiculturalism and thematic and meaning categories defining multiculturalism in Lublin. The research material consists of press articles of local titles: online editions of the dailies: Kurier Lubelski and Dziennik Wschodni and free Lublin weeklies: Nowy Tydzień and Nasze Miasto. In our own analyses they were used: content analysis and analysis of semantic fields.

„Tygodnik Działdowski” pojawił się na rynku wydawniczym w czerwcu 2004 roku jako mutacja regionalnego tygodnika „Tygodnika Ciechanowskiego”. Jest on dostępny w regionie Działdowa w obrębie sześciu gmin: miejskiej Działdowa, miejsko- wiejskiej Lidzbarka oraz czterech gmin wiejskich: Działdowa, Iłowa-Osady, Rybna i Płośnicy. Artykuł zestawia najważniejsze informacje dotyczące genezy i rozwoju, bazy materialnej i druku, szaty graficznej i układu treści oraz autorów „Tygodnika Działdowskiego”.
„Tygodnik Działdowski”appeared in June 2004 as a mutation of the regional weekly „Tygodnik Ciechanowski”. It is available in the region Działdowo within six municipalities: Działdowo urban, urban-rural Lidzbark and four rural districts: Działdowo, Iłowo-Osada, Rybno and Płośnica. Article summarizes the most important information about the origins and development of the material base and printing, graphic design and layout of the content and the authors’ „Tygodnik Działdowski”.

This article examines changes in Polish local press at the turn of the second and the third decade of the 21st Century, directly or indirectly related to the coronavirus pandemic. For years, statistics have been showing declining sales of printed press. This is mainly the case of the general-interest newspapers – national, regional, and local alike. Internet media platforms are increasingly important and often take over the role of the leading local media. Due to their limited reach, local publishers felt the losses from reduced advertising revenue and copy sales even more acutely than national publishers. Local press and small publishing teams struggled to cope with the impact of the pandemic and demand for digitization. So, what will the local press look like in the following years? How will the pandemic change the face of the local press? This study addresses these issues based on findings from desk research, case studies, and content analysis of relevant media. The result of the research is the confirmation of changes in the field of local communication, especially in its channels. The printed press arouses less and less interest among recipients and ceases to function as the fourth estate.

This is a review of the state of research of the Cracow press from its beginnings (ie. occasional newspapers) up to 2009. In his study of the Cracow press the author adopts the concept of local press’ (ie. where the key criterion is that of the place of publication regardless of the outreach). A survey of the publications shows that research into the history of the Cracow press boomed after World War II. As scores of articles, monographs and reports were published, the focus of interest was extended from the old grounds of the early press history, the 19th century and the Republic of Cracow, or the press of the Nazi occupation period to the new fields of the press history of the interwar years 1918–1939 as well as the post-1945 and post-1989 periods

“Gazeta Urzędowa Tomaszowska” (“Tomaschower Amtliche Zeitung”) was an organ of the Municipality of Tomaszów Mazowiecki. It appeared twice a week from December 1915 to June 1917. The magazine was printed in German and Polish. It contained ordinances and announcements of the occupying central and local authorities, as well as semi-official and private announcements. In total, 160 issues of the magazine were published. The article discusses the content of TAZ, emphasizing the undeniable historical value of the magazine for the history of Tomaszów Mazowiecki during the First World War.

The tension inherent in the desire to be modern appeared with all its strength in the discourses surrounding an alien, rapidly developing industrial center in the middle of the rural Kingdom of Poland – the city of Łódź,. In this article, I attempt to reconstruct the logic of press and reportage discourses dealing with this new experience. The press, reportage, and literary discourses concerning the newly established locus of modernity – the city of Łódź – reveal the work of ideological fantasy, a logic of discourse in reportages, essays and novels describing an imaginary diagnosis of reality and a fantasy about its utopian version, as well as the obstacles which always prevent the fulfillment of utopia and even threaten it with a more horrific dystopian vision. Still, the clue lies in the obstacle itself, which is at one and the same time the foundation allowing any utopian project to appear at all, as well a vision of reality.

The end of XIX and beginning of the XXth century was the time of rapid development of Tatra tourism. It was also the time during which Zakopane became the leading touristic venue. Polish Intelligentsia, who came in huge numbers to this place from all annexed territories, had the main influence on that process. The achievements of pioneers in Tatra tourism were the major subjects in the local press, whose dynamic development depended on the growing number of visitors coming to Zakopane. During the years 1891–1914 there were altogether 12 journals that described socio-economic development of Zakopane, included science and popular science articles from various fields and, more importantly, promoted tourism, presented accounts of mountain treks and activities carried out by Polish Tatra Society and Tatra Mountains Volunteer Rescue Service. The press in Zakopane described and presented discussions on controversial topics such as, for example, building the mountain cableway to Świnica Peak. At the beginning of the XXth century the local press included articles written by famous sports and recreation promoters as: Leopold Świerz, Stanisław Będzikiewicz, Eugeniusz Piasecki, Stanisław Barabasz i Mariusz Zaruski.
Przełom XIX i XX wieku to okres silnego rozwoju turystyki tatrzańskiej, a także lata, w których Zakopane jako ośrodek tego ruchu staje się konkurencją dla Krynicy, Rabki, Szczawnicy, czy też licznych kurortów w Karpatach Wschodnich. Dokonania pionierów turystyki tatrzańskiej stanowiły temat zainteresowania lokalnej prasy, której dynamiczny rozwój następował wraz ze zwiększającą się frekwencją odwiedzających Zakopane. W latach 1891–1914 w Zakopanem ukazało się ogółem dwanaście czasopism, w których oprócz spraw związanych z rozwojem społeczno-gospodarczym Zakopanego wiele miejsca zajmowało propagowanie turystki, sprawozdania z odbytych wycieczek górskich, działalność Polskiego Towarzystwa Tatrzańskiego i Tatrzańskiego Ochotniczego Pogotowia Ratunkowego. Na łamach zakopiańskiej prasy odbywała się dyskusja na budzący kontrowersje temat dotyczący budowy kolejki na Świnicę. Początkiem XX w. w lokalnej prasie publikują swoje artykuły propagatorzy sportu i rekreacji: Leopold Świerz, Stanisław Będzikiewicz, Eugeniusz Piasecki, Stanisław Barabasz i Mariusz Zaruski.

Artykuł relacjonuje wydarzenia towarzyszące odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości. Wydarzenia te miały miejsce na terenie Płocku w roku 1918. Analizę zjawisk społecznych oparto głównie na doniesieniach z „Kurjera Płockiego” oraz na literaturze historycznej dotyczącej tego okresu i miejsca. The article reports events accompanying Poland regaining independence. These events took place in Płock in 1918. The analysis of social phenomena was based mainly on reports from Kurjer Płocki and on historical literature talking about this period and place. Local press, according to the Author, is a perfect reflection of social events. It also delivers unique information and data about the past, which are often overlooked in macrohistorical considerations.
