Despite great value of research into visual impairment (VI), there is a dearth of empirical studies in linguistics investigating the extent to which the sense of seeing impacts language development, processing and production. The lack of methodological rigour in previous studies as well as large diversity of the population, small incidence of visual impairment and little awareness of blind people’s needs make this field of study challenging for researchers. This article presents and discusses the most challenging aspects of performing experimental studies in the field of VI. The overarching aim of this paper is to guide good research practice which ensures robust and unbiased experimental design and at the same time respects individuality of people with VI.

Opis:
The main purpose of the paper is both to present and to highlight the wide range of artificial intelligence appliance in linguistic research. I intend to define the so called ‘linguistic intelligence’ in the sense of machine learning, based mainly on artificial neural networks. Linguistic intelligent solutions seem to be not only up-to-date but also very promising in the area of developing and improving any intelligent linguistic tools, such as intelligent tutoring systems that are able to interact with human being, or the voice (speech) recognition systems that are able to receive, interpret (understand) and sometimes even carry out spoken commands. Finally, I intend to present the area of so called ‘terminotics’. The term refers to the meeting point of three interrelated disciplines: terminology, computational linguistics and linguistic engineering. This branch is also assisted by computer tools and new technologies based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. These (tools) are mainly designed for term extraction and corpora development but lately there are also some new possibilities to use these tools to increase the quality of terminology infrastructure as well.

The article focuses upon the emergence and the development of the legal Russian language and the methodology used for its scrutiny in the legal-linguistic research in Russia and abroad. It shows some of the dominant tendencies in the legal-linguistic and related research in a perspective that combines material issues concerning the work on textual sources and their identification as well as methods developed in Russia to deal with legal- linguistic problems. The author aims to portray methodological continuity and discontinuity in a research area with a relatively long history. The overview of topics and methods demonstrates that the development in the area of the legal-linguistic research in Russia displays all characteristic features of the European legal-linguistic tradition, and especially the shift in the attention of scholars from isolated terminological issues to discursive aspects of law. 
Artykuł traktuje o kształtowaniu i rozwoju języka rosyjskiego prawa oraz o metodologii stosowanej w studiach legilingwistycznych w Rosji i za granicą. Autor ilustruje tendencje dominujące w badaniach legilingwistycznych i badaniach zbliżonych do nich koncentrując się na problemach dotyczących identyfikacji materiałów zródłowych oraz metod stworzonych w Rosji dla potrzeb analiz legilingwistycznych. Autor charakteryzuje również kontynuację i dyskontynuację w metodyce badań legilingwistycznych mającą w Rosji znaczny dorobek historyczny. Poniższy przegląd problemów i metod badań legilingwistycznych w Rosji wykazuje cechy charakterystyczne dla europejskiej tradycji legilingwistycznej, szczególnie transformację zainteresowań badaczy począwszy od analizy terminologii w izolacji od innych implikacji lingwistycznych do dyskursywnych aspektów prawa.

Rhyme versatility creates a necessity for multifaceted research into its structural, functional, semantic, psycholinguistic, lingua-culturological and other aspects. The integrating efforts of linguists, literary scholars and other professionals around a common goal promote the formation of an interdisciplinary branch — rhymology. Rhymography deals with the theoretical questions regarding the compilation of rhyming dictionaries. We consider the most urgent problems in Ukrainian rhymology and rhymography to be metalanguage and term system description, the theoretical generalisation of rhyme researchers’ results, the study of rhyme structure, its typology, rhyme creation mechanisms as well as the mechanisms for its reception, the reconstruction of the history of compiling rhyming dictionaries, their classification, the working out of techniques, the lexicographic description of rhyme, etc.

Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób językoznawca może ustalić dane biograficzne znanego tylko z imienia i nazwiska autora rękopisu. Jest to niezwykle ważne dla historyka języka, językoznawstwo diachroniczne musi bowiem dysponować zapleczem historycznym, bez którego wykluczone jest opracowanie spójnej syntezy, rejestrującej i systematyzującej fakty lingwistyczne. Na podstawie rozważań o charakterze i etiologii kołtuna, proponowanych przez Zmijewskiego sposobów i środków leczenia tego – jak sam określa – schorzenia oraz używanej przez niego nomenklatury dla tej dolegliwości, a także wiedzy z zakresu innych dziedzin niż językoznawstwo staram się ustalić, kim był z zawodu Zmijewski. Uzupełnienie biografii twórcy Metody o ten fakt pozwoli w przyszłości na rzetelne opracowanie słownictwa medycznego zapisanego na kartach zabytku.
The aim of this article is to demonstrate how a linguist can find biographic data knowing only the name and surname of the author of a manuscript. It is extremely important for a language historian as historical linguistics must possess a historical background without which drawing up a cohesive synthesis, registering and systematizing linguistic facts is impossible. Based on Józef Zmijewski’s description of the nature and etiology of plica neuropathica, methods and means for treating this – as he puts it – “medical condition”, the nomenclature he uses (I am explaining the origin of a variety of names of this hair disorder), as well as the knowledge from other domains, I attempt to find out what Zmijewski’s profession was. Adding this important fact to the biography of the author of The method will allow for further exploration of medical vocabulary contained in this historical piece of literature.

The necessity of their use in linguistics is revealed as the comprehension of notions they denote makes it possible to map the world in a more detailed and adequate way.

The Bible has attracted the attention of researchers of various specialties for a long time. It is an endless source of themes closely associated with the Christian European culture – its cultural importance is not to undermine. Expressions taken from the Bible appear in various forms of linguistic communication, in press releases, literary works or oral speech. In the Russian modern linguistics there are different semantic and semantic – etymological proposals to classify the religious lexis and idioms of biblical origin. They all refer to the source text – the Bible, because without these references the semantic analysis of the lexis of the biblical genesis in the modern Russian language would not be possible.

Der Beitrag setzt sich zum Ziel, die linguistische Forschung in der Slowakei zu skizzieren. Dabei wird auf Aufsätze hingewiesen, die innerhalb der letzten zehn Jahre entstanden sind. Diese Bestandsaufnahme knüpft an Berichte über die linguistische Forschung der ersten zwanzig Jahre nach der Wende an. Die Forschungslage, die sich gewissermaßen konstituiert hat, lässt sich von zwei Standpunkten aus beobachten. Zum einen ist es die Forschung der Institute, die ununterbrochen (vor und nach der Wende) fortgesetzt wird, zum anderen ist es die Forschung an den neu etablierten Instituten bzw. Lehrstühlen der deutschen Sprache und Literatur.
The aim of this article is to outline the linguistic research in Slovakia which consists of papers and scientific studies published by Slovak scholars of German Studies over the last ten years. At the same time, this paper will follow up on the report on linguistic research in Slovakia within twenty years after the political change. The research situation has stabilized to some extent and can be characterised in two respects. Firstly, it is the research conducted continuously at the departments before and after the political change. Secondly, it is the research on newly established institutes respectively on departments of German language and literature.

Celem niniejszego artykułu, o charakterze teoretyczno-przeglądowym, jest omówienie problematyki związanej z budową własnego korpusu językowego. Badacz, chcący skupić się np. na analizie neologizmów, musi oprzeć swoje badania na określonych źródłach: o ile dawniej często wykorzystywano do tego celu prasę, o tyle obecnie znacznie częściej są to korpusy językowe (np. NKJP) oraz Internet. Autor artykułu stawia tezę, że zarówno NKJP, jak i Internet jako całość, nie są jednak najlepszym wyborem w wypadku chęci badania np. najnowszego słownictwa polszczyzny, a już na pewno nie są wystarczające. Jeszcze więcej problemów stwarza wybór języka mówionego jako podstawy analiz. Najlepszym wyjściem, choć jednocześnie najtrudniejszym i najbardziej czasochłonnym, jest budowa własnego korpusu językowego. W artykule wykazano, dlaczego użycie prasy czy Internetu jako całości niekoniecznie jest najlepszym rozwiązaniem, a także omówiono różnego rodzaju aspekty teoretyczne związane z budową własnego korpusu (np. wybór rodzaju tekstów, wielkość korpusu, wykorzystanie narzędzi informatycznych ułatwiających tworzenie korpusu).
The aim of the present paper, which is of a theoretical character, is to discuss the problems related to the process of the compilation of one’s own linguistic corpus. A linguist who wants to study e.g. neologisms must base his or her analysis on a certain source. Formerly, the language of the press was frequently used as such source; now, however, linguistic corpora and the Internet are utilized more frequently. The author of the paper points out that both the National Corpus of Polish (NKJP) and the Internet as a whole are not the best choices (and are definitely not sufficient) when a linguist intends to study e.g. the newest vocabulary items in Polish. The use of the spoken language as the main source is even more problematic. The best solution, albeit the most difficult and time-consuming at the same time, is the compilation of one’s own linguistic corpus. The paper discusses the inadequacy of regarding the press or the Internet as a whole as the best sources and then proceeds to discuss various theoretical aspects connected with the compilation of one’s own corpus (such as the choice of the type of texts, corpus size, the use of computer tools intended to aid in corpus compilation, etc.).

The objective of this paper is twofold. First, a novel multidisciplinary model will be outlined, which was built across anthropocentric linguistics, quantum physics and neurobiology and which is aimed at offering a possible solution to the problem of human text pattern recognition. It has to be highlighted that the present considerations are preliminary. Second, a conceptual introduction to the multidisciplinary approach to modeling in linguistics in the light of the anthropocentric theory of human languages will be provided.

In the Middle-Polish period numerous texts on science and technology were written. Linguists used to pay little attention to those writings – researchers analysed the terminology and noted the morphological manifestations of the scholarly style as well as the manifestations of consistency of historical scientific texts. The issues such as the emergence of the principles of drafting ancillary texts (footnotes, references, bibliography lists); the early development of the scientific press publications (popular-scientific press) in the Polish language and the emergence of new genres of text assisting the scientific aspects of life were of little interest to linguists. Moreover, a large body of historical scientific and technical texts remained entirely unknown to a vast number of readers as the overwhelming majority of those publications have never been republished. In recent years, thanks to–among others–quickly progressing digitisation, it is increasingly easier to access the old scientific and technical texts. Consequently, more and more attention is paid to them by researchers who emphasize that the development of the Polish language was influenced not only by the transformations of the artistic language but also by other stylistic varieties of Polish, including the scholarly style.

Der Beitrag hat zum Ziel, den 15. Band der Zeitschrift "Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław" zu besprechen, dessen Rahmenthema die Grenzen der Sprache und der Sprachwissenschaft bilden. Es werden 36 Beiträge des Bandes kurz dargestellt und besprochen.
Celem artykułu recenzyjnego jest omówienie zawartości tomu nr 15 czasopisma "Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław", którego tematem ramowym są granice języka i językoznawstwa. W artykule omówiono 36 artykułów naukowych poświęconych tej problematyce.
This contribution has the goal of discussing the fifteenth edition of the magazine "Linguistische Treffen in Wroclaw". The articles contained in the edition to be discussed are devoted to the main topic: Limits of Language and Linguistics. Thirty six contributions are briefly presented and discussed.

The article draws closer the notion of a commercial letter as a means o f specialist communication, while the starting point for consideration is a proposal o f presenting a degree of expertness of various texts on a scale beginning from the most common, as for instance a conversation (cf. Boniecka 2009:151), through the whole spectre o f genres of greater and greater degree o f professional competence up to for example strictly expert discussion of two engineers of the building industry on the subject o f specificity of steel constructions. The concept of the scale (cf. Kalverkamper 1990) allows maintaining fluency in attributing to texts greater and greater degree o f professional competence, thus it does not force fixed divisions between particular genres because of the level of their expertness. While performing the very charactei i sties of the commercial letters, a pragmatic dimension comes to the fore, finding more and more supporters in the contemporary linguistics o f the text, particularly taking into consideration its situational and functional aspect (cf. Ga jda 2009: 139). The final part of the article constitutes a short outline concerning the condition o f research over the commercial letter as the specialist text mainly in the German, as well as in the Polish linguistics of the text.

The focus of the author’s interest is the overwiev of various problems within the field of inlection. The author differentiates between the internal and external inflection and highlights paradigmatics and the descriptions of inflectional catergories. According to her, the research perfomed by Jerzy Kuryłowicz marked the breakthrough in the field and resulted in the introduction of the term: isomorphism. Structural descriptions were particularly important (the approaches of I. Bajerowa, M. Honowska,W.Rzepka), as well as normative ones (H. Satkiewicz and W. Książek – Bryłowa). The author compiles also the works concerned with literary language and inflectional categories in the history of the Polish language.

Celem artykułu jest analiza identyfikacji etnicznej i językowej ukraińskojęzycznej ludności w południowo-wschodniej części województwa podlaskiego. Region ten zwarcie zamieszkuje ludność wyznania prawosławnego, dla której językiem kontaktów domowych jest język ukraiński (dialekt). W prezentowanym artykule opisano etniczne i językowe autoidentyfikacje starszego pokolenia mieszkańców Podlasia. Autora interesuje jak ukraińskojęzyczni mieszkańcy identyfikują „swoich” i „obcych”, jak sami są identyfikowani przez „obcych”: przez polskojęzyczną większość i białoruskojęzyczną mniejszość, jak sami identyfikują grupy „innych” oraz czy te identyfikacje są ze sobą zbieżne. Bazę materiałową analiz stanowią badania dialektologiczne realizowane na Podlasiu. 
The aim of the article is to analyze the ethnic and linguistic identification of the Ukrainian-speaking population in the south-eastern part of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. This region is inhabited by the population of the Orthodox denomination, for whom the language spoken at home is Ukrainian (dialect). The article describes the ethnic and linguistic self-identifications of the older generation of the Podlasie residents. The author is interested in how the Ukrainian-speaking residents identify "their own" and "strangers", how they are identified by "strangers": the Polish-speaking majority and Belarusian-speaking minority, and how they themselves identify these groups of "strangers" and whether these identifications coincide. The material basis for the analyses is dialectological research carried out in Podlasie region.

Im Artikel wird die Lage der Germanistik in Polen nach der politischen Wende 1989 skizziert; es wird gezeigt, dass sich die sog. traditionelle Germanistik zu einer „angewandten“ Germanistik hin entwickelt, um den Anforderungen der globalen Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft zu entsprechen. Der Autor weist auf einige neue Forschungsfelder (Pragmalinguistik, Politolinguistik, Fachsprachen) hin und bespricht die Fachliteratur in diesen Subdisziplinen.
The paper deals with the situation of German philology in Poland after the political changes of 1989. It describes how the so-called traditional German philology has developed into sort of “applied German studies” complying with the requirements of global society and economy. The author points to some new fields of inquiry such as pragmalinguistics, political communication, languages for special purposes, and provides an overview of current specialist literature in these sub-disciplines.

Vor zwei Jahren repräsentierte ich die Universität Szczecin an Bord des Segelschiffs „STS Fryderyk Chopin“, nachdem ich erfolgreich den Bewerbungsprozess durchlaufen hatte und mich dem dortigen Lehrerteam anschloss. Die Reise habe ich am 1. Februar 2022 in Martinique begonnen und nach fast zwei Monaten des Segelns durch die Inseln Mittelamerikas Jamaika erreicht. Es war ein sehr anspruchsvolles Unterfangen. An Bord des Segelschiffs habe ich Unterrichtstätigkeit (Unterricht geben, Noten vergeben, Klassenarbeiten korrigieren) mit Forschungsarbeit verbunden, und das alles unter völlig neuen, oft schwierigen Bedingungen. Ich habe mich mit den Sprachgewohnheiten der Schiffsbesatzung vertraut gemachtund mit den Schüler(inne)n der „Blauen Schule“ (poln. „Niebieska Szkoła“) das Forschungsmaterial erhoben und bearbeitet. Der vorliegende Beitrag präsentiert die Ergebnisse der Sprichwörtererforschungen, die auf dem Segelschiff „STS Fryderyk Chopin“ initiiert wurden. Im Deutschunterricht an Bord der Brigg habe ich zusammen mit der Gruppe polnischer Schüler(inne)n im Alter von 15 bis 19 Jahren deutsche und polnische Sprichwörter mit den maritimen Komponenten gesammelt und diese ihren polnischen bzw. deutschen Entsprechungen gegenübergestellt. Auf der Basis des Vergleichs phraseologischer Einheiten in zwei Sprachen wurden die Äquivalenzbeziehungen festgestellt. Es wurde auf die Anzahl der Äquivalente, die lexikalischen und/oder syntaktisch-strukturellen Nichtübereinstimmungen der Sprichwörter und ihrer Entsprechungen in den Zielsprachen hingewiesen.
Two years ago, I represented the University of Szczecin on board the sailing ship “STS Fryderyk Chopin”joining the ranks of the teachers there after a successful recruitment process. I started my journey on February 1, 2022 from Martinique and after almost two months of sailing around the islands of Central America I arrived in Jamaica. It was a very demanding venture. On board of sailing ship, I combined teaching work (giving lessons, grading, checking tests) with research work, all under completely new and often difficult conditions. I became acquainted with the language used by the ship‘s crew, and together with the students of the “Blue School” (Pol. “Niebieska Szkoła”) I collected and compiled research material. The paper presents the results of linguistic proverbs research initiated on the tall ship “STS Fryderyk Chopin”. In the course of German language classes on the board the brig I collected, together with a group of Polish students, aged 15 to 19, German and Polish proverbs with elements of maritime language and compared them with their Polish or German counterparts, respectively. On the basis of the comparison of phraseological units in the two languages, equivalence relations were established. The numbers of equivalents was analyzed, as well as lexical and/or structural differences between the proverbs and their counterparts in the target languages.

Niniejszy artykuł nawiązuje do sformułowanego przez Zofię Bilut-Homplewicz w 2013 roku dezyderatu kontrastywności interlingwistycznej i interdyskursywnej. Oba typy kontrastywności przedstawione są w odniesieniu do badań lingwistycznych nad dyskursem migracyjnym w Polsce i w Niemczech. Po obraniu za punkt wyjścia perspektywy interlingwistycznej i interdyskursywnej omówione zostają zmienne porównawcze, takie jak „migracja, dyskurs migracyjny, lingwistyczne badania dyskursu migracyjnego“ – każda z nich w odniesieniu do Polski, Niemiec lub krajów niemieckojęzycznych oraz badań polskich i niemieckich. W ramach porównania interdyskursywnego i interlingwistycznego uwaga skupiona jest w szczególności na pojęciu toposu i jego operacjonalizacji w obu obszarach badawczych.
The present paper focuses on the desideratum of interlinguistic and interdiscursive contrastivity, delineated by Zofia Bilut-Homplewicz in 2013. Both types of contrastivity are presented with reference to linguistic research on the migration discourse in Poland and Germany. As a starting point, the author outlines interlinguistic and interdiscursive contrastivity. What follows is a comprehensive account of the comparative variables such as »migration, migration discourse, linguistic research on migration discourse« – each of which is discussed in relation to Poland, Germany or Germanspeaking countries and the Polish and German research. Within the framework of an interdiscursive and interlinguistic comparison, the focus of attention is particularly on the concept of topos and its operationalisation in both research areas.

Opis:
In recent decades, in the post-Soviet area, an interest of linguists in religious subjects has been increasing. Linguists undertake a large-scale research on the religious image of the world. Studying the Bible gains in importance, and the attention of many researchers focuses on the multi-facited description of phraseological units of the biblical origin. In contemporary Russian linguistic analyzes, there are two approaches to the study of phraseological expressions of biblical provenance: in accordance with the Russian or western research traditions. Representatives of both fields of study refer in their works to the achievements of Russian or foreign scientists. The resulting studies are typologically diversified. Among them you can find literary, philosophical and linguistic works, articles of historical and cultural character, descriptive and comparative works (created on the basis of material from several languages), experimental dictionary publications and other types of scientific texts. The present article is a presentation of the most important, in my opinion, works on the religious image of the world.
