The article addresses the problem of absence of women’s poetry in the linguistic current of 20th-century Polish poetry. It analyses its causes, amongst which the pivotal role is played by the stereotypical vision of women’s poetry, deeply ingrained in general awareness. The vision in question does not admit “difficult” forms and thus places women’s poetic work outside the avant-garde tendencies, linguistic experiment and metareflection. The authoress calls for inclusion of the omitted or forgotten poetesses who play with language in their poems and she articulates the need to redefine our understanding of linguistic poetry.

The sketch presents the reconstruction of Zbigniew Bieńkowski’s theory of linguistic poetry. This author who is classified by critics and researchers as a member of linguistic poetry movement is by no means uncritical of its various perspectives and accomplishments. This complicated approach is reflected in the dispute that Bieńkowski was engaged in with Karpowicz and the poets of the New Wave in his critical sketches. He unfairly accuses them of being too minimalistic and of paying too much attention to linguistic experiments. He claims that distrust of language and its communicative functions in New Wavers’ programs overshadowed the broad philosophical and ideological functions of word games. Instead he proposed his own poetological project “Trzy poematy” [“Three poems”], where avant-garde traditions mingled with symbolist ones and called for breaking the numbness of language for broader, idealistic purposes. Referring to Vico’s historiosophy, Bieńkowski wishes to treat linguistic poetry both as a tool (a trick) and space for intervention, whose final purpose is to rebuild the anthropogenic locus amoenus in language.

The essay concerns the work of Joanna Mueller, who is one of the main representatives of polish linguistic poetry. Her project combines the tradition of linguistic poetry and body experience. This strategy requires the development of a new understanding of the language, which will no longer be conceived as a trap references, but rather as one of many elements of reality. The best way to describe the work of the poet’s imagery is stratification, both in terms of the attitudes adopted by Mueller, by the subjects, to the construction of the poem. Equally important it seems to be the prospect of motherhood, both in terms of artistic activity, as well as the practices of life.

Artykuł-szkic interpretacyjny poświęcony jest szczegółowej, mikrologicznej analizie dwóch wierszy Krystyny Miłobędzkiej z tomiku Imiesłowy. Autor stara się pokazać, jak trzy znaki interpunkcyjne – dwa przecinki oraz jeden dywiz – potrafią diametralnie zmienić powierzchowną interpretację utworów, w której obecność wspomnianych detali zostałaby pominięta. W zakończeniu autor stawia pytanie o to, czy w ramach analizy mikrologicznej możliwe jest mówienie o oddzieleniu od siebie interpretacji od czystej nadinterpretacji filologa-kolekcjonera.
This interpretative essayistic article is devoted to a detailed micrological analysis of Krystyna Miłobędzka’s poems in her book Imiesłowy (Participles). The author attempts to show how three punctuation signs – two commas and one hyphen – can diametrically alter the surface interpretation of a work in the event of such seemingly minor details being omitted. In his conclusion, the author raises the question of whether it is possible, within a micrological analysis, to speak of separating interpretation from the philologist-collector’s pure overinterpretation.

Danuta Wawiłow’s poems for children were created in the second half of the 20th century. The poems classify as the language poetry, employing in the compositions the mechanisms and figures of speech characteristic of this aesthetic current. The poet uses stylization, she reconstructs the creative attitude to language typical of kindergarteners, which is based on experimentation and abounding in similar-sounding words. Wawiłow implements the particularly strongly individualized variation of linguism. She tests the language potential with regards to the needs of an individual – a child who attempts to express their feelings, thoughts, and emotions. Wawiłow’s poetry is not only focused on the language, but also explores the subjectivism of the lyrical subject and new ways of its expression.

The sketch discusses the “relations and interdependencies of impossibilities” connecting the discursive poetry of Bieńkowski with the lyrical poetics of Leśmian. This formula, coined by the author of Sprawy wyobraźni, perfectly expresses these kind of references that exceed just a simple juxtaposition of similarities in subject matters or poetical figures. In terms of this plane, there seem to be are more differences between the two poems than conceivable similarities. However, within the plane of creative philosophy, the awareness of the language status in modern poetry, the abiding concept of reality and the attitude towards civilizational and social transformations, the similarities are particularly striking. The avant-garde poet does not shun from employing early modernist individualistic, idealistic, regressive and aesthetic (formalistic) tendencies so characteristic for Leśmian. If Przyboś, as Łapiński put it, “rehabilitated” Leśmian’s programme, Bieńkowski makes the Przyboś’ programme back again more like Leśmian-like, creating a programme not so much avant-garde in character but rather a one that relates to decadent aspirations of modernism in its narrowest sense. Not surprisingly then, he makes the lyrics of the author of Łąka his particular tertium comparationis of the phenomena in Polish postwar poetry, linguistic poetry in particular. This way, unusual power of modernity of Leśmian poetry is testified and well proven.

The article constitutes an attempt at an extended analysis of Tymoteusz Karpowicz’s posthumously published poem, Commedia dell’arte, which concentrates on numerous intertextual references operating within it (for example the references to D. Defoe’s and Ch. Baudelaire’s texts, to the figure of a fool, G. Tiepol’s painting or Bolesław Leśmian’s poems). It is the author’s firm belief that these references cannot be treated as mere erudite ornaments but should be acknowledged as the strategies revealing the hidden sense of the text. The latter turn out to lead the reader in the direction which shall be today called postsecular: although the text talks about God who has abandoned the world, and as such may be recognized as a story about secularization, I treat it as “inscribed positively in the destiny of kenosis” (G. Vattimo). Such a reading may be supported by a mimological correspondence between the strategies hindering a reading on the plane of expression and an affirmation of kenosis on the plane of content.

W neolingwistycznej poezji Joanny Mueller istotnym zagadnieniem jest indywidualny wymiar macierzyństwa. Jego liryczne konkretyzacje odznaczają się pogłębioną autorefleksyjnością, poszukiwaniem własnej poetyki, wskazywaniem na przemiany ponowoczesnej estetyki. Poetka, eksplorując możliwości języka, próbując wypowiedzieć doświadczenie maternalne, skupia się nie tylko na tożsamości matki, ale też na podmiotowości dziecka w okresie prenatalnym i niemowlęcym. Charakteryzując jego status, otwierając się na eksperymentowanie z dźwiękową i semantyczną zasobnością języka, w matczynym doświadczeniu wskazuje na radość, troskę, ale też niepewność i lęk. Odsłania potencjalność nowego bytu, znikomość jego istnienia, która wymaga skupienia i przyzwolenia, subtelnych gestów, by załagodzić napięcia towarzyszące wzrastaniu. Mueller, przedstawiając budowanie relacji z dzieckiem, podkreśla współzależność, doznawanie jego bezcenności, odrębności, stopniowe oswajanie się z tym, co nieznane, ukryte, a niezwykle bliskie.
A significant theme in the neo-linguistic poetry of Joanna Mueller is the individual dimension of maternity. Its poetic expressions are characterized by deepened self-reflection, search for a personal poetics, and point to transformations of postmodern aesthetics. As the poet explores the possibilities offered by language and attempts to express maternal experience, she focuses not only on the mother’s identity but also on the subjectivity of the unborn child or the infant. Describing its status, opening herself to experimenting with the phonetic and semantic wealth of language, she notes joy and care, but also uncertainty and fear that are a part of maternal experience. She reveals the potentiality of the new being, its infinitesimality, which requires concentration and permission as well as subtle gestures to ease the tensions that accompany growth. In her portrayal of building a relation with the child, Mueller emphasizes co-dependency, experiencing the child’s pricelessness and distinctiveness, gradual familiarization with what is unknown and hidden, yet so very close.

W artykule przedstawiono poetów lat 60-ch XX wieku I. Dracza i L. Kostenko jako osobowości językowe, należące do różnych typów psychologicznych — ekstrawertyków i introwertyków. Wniosek prognostyczny co do psychotypu wysnuto na podstawie analizy swoistego funkcjonowania liczebników w tekstach poetyckich I. Dracza i L. Kostenko w ich szerokiej reprezentacji jako klasy leksykalno-gramatycznej. Scharakteryzowano współdziałanie gramatyki i poetyki liczebnika na różnych płaszczyznach oraz kształtowanie się jego znaczenia pragmatycznego.
The paper is devoted to the poets of the Thaw, І. Drach and L. Kostenko, as language personalities, belonging to different psychological types — extraverts and introverts. The prognostic conclusion as for the poetic psychological type is based on the analysis of specifi c features of numerals as a lexical-grammatical class of words functioning in poetic texts by І. Drach and L. Kostenko. The research characterizes complex varied interaction of the numerals grammar and poetics, the specifi cs of forming their pragmatic meaning.

The article concerns textual phenomena in the poetry of Urszula Kozioł, which constitute a part of a linguistic method for examining relations between elements of poetic language. The examples discussed concern free verse – they reveal elaborate structures and linguistic processes focused on syntactic condensation, poetic accommodation, elliptic verse or phraseological trace. In the poetry of Kozioł, especially phraseology is original, which makes the receptive perspective adopted at describing linguistic phenomena representative of complicated formal-semantic processes. The draft is an attempt to read the Poet’s texts with the use of linguistic tools, so it not only gives a complete picture of an individualised poet but helps to point out peculiarities, the examination of which requires a reflection on language perception in poetic structures.
