Opis:
High precision automated size measurements are required during industrial and scientific applications. The principle of sub-pixel measuring is based on an intensity interpolation algorithm. Combined with the characteristics of light, a system with high precision, short measuring time and low cost was developed. The proposed system is then applied to the measurement of 5 cm objects and compared with traditional measuring techniques. The experiment demonstrates that the measuring accuracy can reach up to 0.012 μm, and that the measurement size of the system is practical and prompt. In addition, it is able to meet the requirement for industrial applications in a variety of settings with stable performance and high precision.

Opis:
Elicitation of utilities is among the most time consuming tasks in decision analysis. We search for ways to shorten this phase without compromising the quality of results. We use the results from an empirical experiment with 104 participants. They elicited 9 inner nodes from their one-dimensional utility function over monetary gains and losses using three elicitation techniques. A specific feature of the results is their interval character, as the elicitators are fuzzy rational individuals. The data is used to construct arctan-approximated and linearly interpolated utilities and to compare the results. We form partial samples with 3, 4 and 5 nodes for each participant and each elicitation method, and again interpolate/approximate the utilities. We introduce goodness-of-fit and deterioration measures to analyze the decrease in quality of the utility function due to reduced data nodes. The analysis, using paired-sample tests, leads to the following conclusions: 1) arctan-approximation is more adequate than linear interpolation over the whole samples; 2) 5 inner nodes are sufficient to construct a satisfactory arctan-approximation; 3) arctan-approximation and linear interpolation are almost equal in quality over the partial samples, but the local risk aversion of the linearly interpolated utility function is of poor quality unlike that of the arctan-approximated utility function.

The paper concerns an analysis regarding geometry of a grinding wheel used in grinding of cylindrical worm threads characterized by various geometry. It presents geometrical and physical factors having impact on the dressing process and quality of the grinding wheel. In particular, an attention is paid on the accuracy of a grinding wheel’s outline if it is approximated by linear interpolation line segments which are obtained in the case of dressing on a CNC machine tool. On the basis of two grinding wheel outlines (Archimedes and circular-arched one), the relevance of the length of the segment line on the geometrical accuracy of wheel’s outline has been presented. In the case of development of a wheel dresser path on the CNC machine tool, the necessity of a customized approach has also been indicated.

The objective of this work is to set up a methodology that considers missing data from a connected heartbeat sensor in order to propose a good replacement methodology in the context of heart rate variability (HRV) computation. The framework is a research project, which aims to build a system that can measure stress and other factors influencing the onset and development of heart disease. The research encompasses studying existing methods, and improving them by use of experimental data from case study that describe the participant’s everyday life. We conduct a study to modelize stress from the HRV signal, which is extracted from a heart rate monitor belt connected to a smart watch. This paper describes data recording procedure and data imputation methodology. Missing data is a topic that has been discussed by several authors. The manuscript explains why we choose spline interpolation for data values imputation. We implement a random suppression data procedure and simulate removed data. After that, we implement several algorithms and choose the best one for our case study based on the mean square error.

During the motion registration using passive motion capture system in the marker’s trajectory a gap may appear, which in the data post-processing should be filled in. Various interpolation algorithms are used for this purpose. This article presents three different interpolation methods: linear, polynomial of Lagrange of second degree and fifth degree. In the original 3D data the holes have been created, which are then filled in by mentioned methods. Each method was evaluated by measuring the Euklides distance for three dimensions of the original and interpolated data. The article presents the program to interpolate gaps in the trajectory, implemented in C ++ language. The analysis concerns the interpolation of selected marker’s trajectory which belongs to the Plug-in Gait model while performing walking.

Opis:
The linear travel-time interpolation algorithm is improved by the method of ray tracing based on finite difference scheme of eikonal equation. It can simulate the more complex medium. Using the algorithm to calculate travel-time and paths of tracing rays, it is more rapid and accurate than the other conventional methods. The linear travel-time interpolation ray tracing algorithm has a drawback: rays cannot go round the low velocity area if the launching point, the receiving point and the low velocity area distribute on the same column (row). Aiming at the drawback, an improved algorithm is proposed on the basis of researching reconstruction theories. The given algorithm adopts a cross-scanning strategy to carry out forward processing and uses discrete points as the secondary sources to simplify backward processing. The numerical simulation experiments show that the rays can go round the low velocity areas located in the same column (row) of the launching points and the receiving points. Rays scan over the global region only once.

In the paper certain method is proposed, concerning calibration of a channel for measurements of non-electrical quantities, by means of total sensitivity evaluation. The implementation ways of self-calibration algorithms are shown, for different types of measurement channels, depending on the type of conversion function of non-electrical quantity sensor. Frequently used sensors with ratio output have been examined (integrated sensors, bridge circuits), in which a measurand is converted to a ratio of sensor output voltage to its supply voltage. The cases of linear and non-linear conversion function of a measurement channel have been taken into consideration. The interpolation of conversion function has been realized with linear spline functions. An example of implementation of self-calibration algorithm is shown.

Nonstationary signals cannot be analysed using the spectrum analysis methods. A Linear Decimation Procedure transforms signals measured for a changeable rotational speed into signals corresponding to the constant speed. In this article a mathematical description and derivation of the original LDP were presented. An algorithmic notation of the method allows to create program implementations. Also the possibilities of the usage of interpolation methods for PLD were presented. The obtained results, in the form of the amplitude spectrums of the shaft vibration displacement during rotor run-down, for the methods presented in this article where graphically presented. In this article the influence of the decimation ratio on spectral selectivity was emphasised.

The paper describes how a linear combination of bicubic B-splines can be effectively used in a two-dimensional interpolation. It is assumed that values of a function to be interpolated are evaluated at the uniformly located nodes of a corresponding rectangular grid. All formulae of importance have been derived step by step and are presented in a form convenient for computer implementations. To ensure clarity of considerations a short description of one-dimensional B-spline is also given in Appendix 1. The usefulness of the presented interpolation algorithm has been confirmed by the real engineering example of applications.

Opis:
The method of controlling an overhead crane with respect to the variation of operating conditions and control constraints is developed using a model predictive control (MPC) and fuzzy interpolation applied in linear parameter varying (LPV) approach to crane dynamic modelling. The proposed control approach is based on the assumption that operating conditions vary within the known range of scheduling variables, and the parameters of a crane dynamic model can be interpolated by a quasi-linear fuzzy model designed through utilizing the P1-TS fuzzy theory. Hence, a crane dynamic is approximated through interpolation between a set of local linear models determined through identification experiments at the local operating points selected within the bounded intervals of scheduling variables. For the modelling assumptions, the control algorithm is developed based on a generalized predictive control (GPC) procedure taking into consideration the constraints on sway angle of a payload and control signal. Feasibility and applicability of the proposed control technique were confirmed during experiments carried out on a laboratory-scaled overhead crane. The results of experiments are presented and compared with performances of a fuzzy logic-based scheduling control scheme.

Opis:
1. Introduction. Our aim is to test numerically the new method of interpolation determinants (cf. [2], [6]) in the context of linear forms in two logarithms. In the recent years, M. Mignotte and M. Waldschmidt have used Schneider's construction in a series of papers [3]-[5] to get lower bounds for such a linear form with rational integer coefficients. They got relatively precise results with a numerical constant around a few hundreds. Here we take up Schneider's method again in the framework of interpolation determinants. We decrease the constant to less than one hundred when the logarithms involved are real numbers. Theorems 1 and 2 are simple corollaries of our main result which is Theorem 3. At first glance, the statement of Theorem 3 seems to be complicated, but it is much more precise than the above mentioned corollaries, which are only examples of applications. Let us also mention that we have been led in Section 3 to some technical lemmas which may be useful in some other situations apart from transcendental number theory.
A preliminary version of this text can also be found in [6], in the form of an appendix to lectures given by M. Waldschmidt at Madras Math. Science Institute. I would like to thank Dong Ping Ping and M. Waldschmidt for useful comments and remarks during the writing of this paper.

Opis:
The predictive control scheme is developed for an overhead crane using the generalized predictive procedure applied for the discrete time linear parameter-varying model of a crane dynamic. The robust control technique is developed with respect to the constraints of sway angle of a payload and control input signal. The two predictive strategies are presented and compared experimentally. In the first predictive control scheme, the online estimation of the parameters of a crane dynamic model is performed using the recursive least square algorithm. The second approach is a sensorless anti-sway control strategy. The sway angle feedback signal is estimated by a linear parameter-varying model of an unactuated pendulum system with the parameters interpolated using a quasi-linear fuzzy model designed through utilizing the P1-TS fuzzy theory. The fuzzy interpolator is applied to approximate the parameters of a crane discrete-time dynamic model within the range of scheduling variables changes: the rope length and mass of a payload. The experiments carried out on a laboratory scaled overhead crane confirmed effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed solutions. The implementation of control systems was performed using the PAC system with RX3i controller. The series of experiments carried out for different operating points proved robustness of the control approaches presented in the article.

This paper is concerned with the construction of reduced-order models for high-order linear systems in such a way that the L2 norm of the impulse-response error is minimized. Two convergent algorithms that draw on previous procedures presented by the same authors, are suggested: one refers to s-domain representations, the other to time-domain state-space representations. The algorithms are based on an iterative scheme that, at any step, satisfies certain interpolation constraints deriving from the optimality conditions. To make the algorithms suitable to the reduction of very large-scale systems, resort is made to Krylov subspaces and Arnoldi's method. The performance of the reduction algorithms is tested on two benchmark examples.

Opis:
The scan-line corrector (SLC) of the Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) sensor failed in May 2003, and this abnormal functioning of SLC resulted in about 22% of the pixels per scene without being scanned. By filling the un-scanned gap by a good technique will help in more use of ETM+ data for many scientific applications. While there have been a number of approaches developed to fill in the data gaps in ETM+ imagery, each method has shortcomings, especially they require SLC-on (images acquired before SLC-off anomaly) imagery for the same location to fill the gaps in SLC-off (images acquired after SLC anomaly) image. To overcome such shortcomings this study proposes an alternative interpolation method based on the partial derivative. This case study shows that this technique is very much useful to interpolate the missing pixel values in the SLC-off ETM+ data.
