Artykuł stanowi analizę utworów przedstawiających nieheteronormatywną rzeczywistość PRL w perspektywie badań nad pamięcią (memory studies). Przedmiot zainteresowania stanowią teksty, które tematyzują zarazem homoseksualność (przede wszystkim męską), jak i sam PRL z jego codziennymi absurdami i społeczno-politycznymi zawiłościami: Płynąc w ciemnościach Tomasza Jędrowskiego, Kryptonim Hiacynt i Zbrodnia, której nie było Andrzeja Selerowicza, Zatoka ostów Tadeusza Olszewskiego oraz Gejerel Krzysztofa Tomasika. Analiza pozwoliła ujawnić szereg strategii i taktyk odzyskiwania, przepisywania i zastępowania pamięci o tej części polskiej historii. Wszystkie omawiane tu utwory realizują te same taktyki, przedstawiają te same motywy, wyrastają z tej samej potrzeby uzupełnienia luk w pamięci zbiorowej. Co za tym idzie, tworzą (brakującą) narrację, wchodzą w dialog z historią. Można je zatem traktować, zgodnie z definicją sformułowaną przez Marianne Hirsch, jako działania postpamięciowe.
This paper constitutes an analysis of works depicting non-heteronormative reality of the Polish People’s Republic (pol. Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa/PRL) in the context of memory studies. The texts that are the subject of investigation focus on both homosexuality (mainly male) and the PRL with its everyday absurdities, as well as its social and political intricacies: Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jędrowski, Kryptonim Hiacynt (Codename Hyacinth) and Zbrodnia, której nie było (The Crime that Never Was) by Andrzej Selerowicz, Zatoka ostów (The Bay of Thistles) by Tadeusz Olszewski, and Gejerel (Gay-RL) by Krzysztof Tomasik. The analysis reveals numerous strategies and tactics for rewriting and substituting the memory of this part of the Polish history. All the texts examined in this paper use the same tactics, present the same motifs, and arise from the same need for filling the gaps in the collective memory. As a result, they create (a missing) narration that enters into dialogue with history. Hence, they can be understood, according to the definition formulated by Marianne Hirsch, as postmemory actions.

Even though the challenges that Queer* employees face in the workplace because of their intersecting identities of gender, sexuality, race, and class continue to be one of the rarely studied topics in social sciences, there has been a resurgence of interest in recent years, concerning how Queer* teachers experience the conflation of their sexual and professional identities. Informed by the recognition that schools are one of the most representative prototypes of gendered organizations with their ever-adapting regimes of inequality, this study is motivated by the question of how Queer* teachers in İstanbul deal with the enduring institutionalized homophobia, which has only got worse in terms of its silencing and pathologizing mechanisms. Claiming one of the fundamental functions of schools to establish strictly heteronormative spaces of learning, where any form of gender nonconformity or sexual dissidence stands before disciplinary punishment or reprimand from other students and teachers, I have examined the current working conditions of Queer* teachers in İstanbul within the contexts of schools, which compel Queer* teachers to abide by their institutionalized rules and norms of compulsory heterosexuality. This study attempts to learn what kind of experiences Queer* teachers in İstanbul articulate regarding the conundrum of being forced into presenting themselves as non-sexualized and non-gendered professional figures, as neoliberal policies and capitalist expectations of a rigid separation between professional identities and personal lives of workers continue to negatively affect the occupational well-being of Queer* teachers. A careful analysis of the interviews has revealed that the Queer* teachers in İstanbul are burdened with the aesthetic labor they are constantly expected to perform due to the emergent neoliberal schemes of professionalism and that they suffer under closely monitoring mechanisms of heteronormative school policies and work climates.

W artykule podjęta została próba przedstawienia retorycznej analizy wybranych publikacji, które aktualnie można odnaleźć w Internecie, a poświęconych problematyce opatrywanej skrótowcem LGBTQ+ (i różnymi jego wariantami). Differentia specifica zróżnicowanych definicji już samego terminu (od „osób” i „społeczności” po „ideologię” i „wynaturzenie”) przejawia się m.in. odwołaniami do innych dwóch, wielce istotnych, bo perswazyjnie nośnych pojęć: zdrowia i choroby, zarówno ciała, jak też umysłu. Na nich koncentruje się analiza, która uwzględnia wszystkie, z jednej strony, tekstowe (inventio, dispositio i elocutio) wymiary, z drugiej, pozatekstowe (komunikacyjne, kontekstowe i konsytuacyjne) uwarunkowania internetowej „dysputy” o LGBTQ+. Opis sposobów używania w niej pojęć „zdrowie” (somatyczne i psychiczne) oraz (takaż dwojaka) „choroba” prowadzi do końcowego wniosku, że dualistyczne, współczesne podejście do LGBTQ+ stanowi inkarnację poniekąd odwiecznego sporu cywilizacyjnego czy też kulturowego między barbarią i humanizmem, którego depozytariuszką pozostaje m.in. również retoryka (klasyczna) w jednym spośród wielu znaczeń tego terminu.
The article attempts to present the rhetorical analysis of selected publications which can be currently found in the Internet and which deal with the issues covered by the acronym LGBTQ+ (and its variants). Differentia specifica of various definitions of the notion (starting with “people” and “community” to “ideology” and “degeneration”) manifests itself in, among others, the reference to two other, highly significant, because persuasively catchy notions: health and disease, both of the body and the mind, on which the analysis taking into account all textual dimensions (inventio, dispositio and elocutio) on the one hand, and extratextual (communication, contextual and consituational) conditions of the internet “dispute” about LGBTQ+, focuses. The description of how the notions of “health” (somatic and mental) and “disease” (also dual) are used in this analysis lead to the final conclusion that the twofold approach to LGBTQ constitutes the incarnation of, to a certain extent, the perennial civilizational or cultural conflict between barbarity and humanism, whose depositary, among others, also (classical) rhetoric in one of its numerous meanings remains.

Artykuł rozważa liczne konteksty i wielopłaszczyznowość prawa do obywatelstwa, posiadania prawidłowego aktu stanu cywilnego, czy też korzystania z ulg bądź zwolnień podatkowych na takich samych zasadach jak inni obywatele, np. pozostający w związkach heteroseksualnych. Ukazuje ono, jak skomplikowane stało się orzekanie w sprawach, które ze względu na przedmiot regulacji powinny być względnie jednoznaczne i przewidywalne. Refleksyjność wykładni prawa pozwala uwzględnić nieeliminowalny aspekt jego zmienności, jak również płynność znaczenia pojęć i zwrotów użytych w tekście prawnym, co nakłada obowiązek odwołania się przez interpretatora do pozajęzykowych kontekstów wykładni, a więc do argumentów funkcjonalnych i systemowych. Autor wskazuje, że nie jest możliwe właściwe zrozumienie aktualnego kontekstu prawnego bez analizy kontekstu społecznego i kulturowego, zwłaszcza przy uwzględnieniu pluralizmu wartości jako modus vivendi społeczeństwa demokratycznego.
The article illustrates the numerous contexts and the multifaceted nature of the LGBTQ+ persons’ rights to citizenship, to have a correct civil status record, or to benefit from tax reductions or exemptions of on the same terms as other citizens, e.g., those in heterosexual unions. It shows how complicated it has become to adjudicate on matters that, in view of the subject-matter of regulation, should be relatively clear and predictable. Reflective interpretation of law makes it possible to take into account its non-eliminable changeability, as well as the fluidity of meaning of terms and phrases used in legal texts – factors which oblige the interpreter to refer to extra-linguistic contexts of interpretation, i.e., to functional and systemic arguments. The author considers that it is not possible to reach an adequate understanding of the current legal context without analysing the social and cultural context, especially when considering pluralism of values as the modus vivendi of a democratic society.

Autor tekstu stawia pytania, jak zmienia się relacja współczesnej polskiej kultury gejowskiej do kampu oraz jaka wskutek tych przemian jest relacja kampu do nowych zjawisk popkulturowych. The text analyses how the relation of contemporary Polish gay culture to camp is changing, and how these changes are related to new phenomena in pop culture. Furthermore, the author discusses whether similar (camp) taste and similar (camp) lifestyle allow us to understand queer community as the “new creative class” according to Richard Florida. Among the phenomena discussed are “gay diva worship”, “guilty pleasures”, “hoot” and “hipster”. The material analysed comes from the Polish LGBTQ press.

Is there such an entity as Polish LGBT language and slang? Undoubtedly there is, but various myths and misconceptions have arisen in relation to this topic. The Polish LGBT lexical corpus is certainly not negligible, though many of the words and expressions either fell out of use or they existed and exist only in theory, as is the case of many jargons shared by specific communities also in other languages. Moreover, many words and expressions functioning now within the Polish 'family' derive from English, as is also the case of some other contemporary languages. Some of these expressions have acquired Polish equivalents – either via translation or by being adapted to the Polish paradigmatic and syntagmatic structures. It should be noted that new words and expressions rarely happen to be the result of 'politically (ideologically) correct' decisions or demands. There is also a widespread, if unfounded, myth that Polish LGBT vocabulary, and generally the lexis relating to sex and eroticism, is rather limited, and that it is either vulgar or medical. This myth is propagated, among others, by some literary translators, but this felt lack is due to idiosyncratic lacunae in their lexical and cultural awareness rather than objective linguistic deprivation.

The article offers an analysis of the frequency and quality of LGBTQ+ representation in fictional podcasts. I examine how frequently and with what intent LGBTQ+ characters are included in this medium. This research aims to fill the gap in academic work on LGBTQ+ representation in podcasts. Though scholars note an increase in representation in mainstream media, LGBTQ+ media consumers, especially young people, still look to other sources for validation of their identities. Many LGBTQ+ people look to fictional podcasts as a source of quality representation, especially because podcasts are small-scale and rely on the funding, and thus the opinion, of listeners (Bottomley, 2015). In this paper, I analyze four fictional podcast series for LGBTQ+ inclusivity. I note how many LGBTQ+ characters are included and in what proportion. I assess the quality of representation in four ways: diversity, depth, and the frequency and type of stereotypical LGBTQ+ tropes. My findings show a high frequency of LGBTQ+ characters and diversity of personalities and backgrounds, opportunities for these characters to express their sexual and/or gender identities as well as LGBTQ+ trope subversions. Thus, we see that fictional podcasts, as a medium that sustains itself by listeners’ patronage, present stories that their audience can relate to. As a result, fictional podcasts create more niche stories that make connections with smaller demographics of media consumers.

We present in this article part of our comprehensive research results, which was concentrated on identification of knowledge about LGBTQ of Social Work students as well as particularities of working with LGBTQ in Social Work area. Part of the research between Social Work students was also determination of solving model situations in LGBTQ area and child care between LGBT people. We observe also some semantic representations of LGB between Social Work students. Exactly this small part of results indicates in this article.

The created world of Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota series depicts a future society where gender identity has undergone a process of uniformisation, resulting in the erasure of gendered language. The novels take the form of a confessional (a recounting of the events of the past) which are published in the future society without the express consent of the other characters taking part in the depicted course of events. The narrator, in a motivated show of re bellion against their society’s current ideology (discussed both at the beginning of the series and as they progress with the narration), reinscribes gendered pronouns onto the unknowing characters; however, this is done on an arbitrary basis, which the narrator does not always discuss. The present paper aims to emphasize the growing number of LGBT+ novels published and the impossibility of transposing them into Romanian due to the lack of a gender-neutral pronoun that does not default to the masculine. The paper analyses Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer in order to specify the various nuances that would be lost in the cultural adaptation and translation of the novel into Romanian, a translation which has yet to occur, given the complexity and constraints of the novel and the depicted ideology behind it.

Even though homosexuality and other sexual minorities have never been considered illegal by the Korean government, people identifying as non-heteronormative were and are still vastly ostracised. Furthermore, the LGBT community was and is still facing social stigmatism. What cultural conditions influenced the way non-heteronormative minorities are perceived by most South Korean society? How has the LGBT minority developed over the centuries? When did the attitudes of South Koreans change for the better? The following article covers the answers to the above-stated questions based on a particular query of texts related to the topic based on historiographic records. In the first section, the influence of the Confucian ideas of Three Fundamental Bonds and Five Constant Virtues (三綱五倫, 삼강오륜 [samgangoryun]) on the image of 'correct relationship' and the Taoist division of gender roles based on energy adversity (yin (陰, 음 [eum]) and yang (陽, 양 [yang])) will be explained. This will serve as a basis for understanding cultural opposition to same-sex relationships. The following subchapter consists of a chronological overview of the most important historical records regarding same-sex relationships. The third subchapter presents the sexual minority groups formed in the 1990s, such as Chodong Society (초동회 [chodonghoe]), Between Friends (친구사이 [chingu sai]) and Maeum 001 (마음001 [maeum gongongil]), which had the most significant impact on the development of the contemporary LGBT movement in South Korea. The last section presents current changes and problems that the South Korean LGBT society faces.
Pomimo faktu, że homoseksualizm i inne mniejszości seksualne nigdy nie zostały uznane przez koreański rząd za nielegalne, osoby identyfikujące się jako nieheteronormatywne były i nadal są poddawane ogromnemu ostracyzmowi. Co więcej, społeczność LGBT była i nadal jest narażona na stygmatyzm społeczny. Jakie uwarunkowania kulturowe wpłynęły na sposób postrzegania mniejszości nieheteronormatywnych przez większość społeczeństwa Korei Południowej? Jak mniejszość LGBT rozwijała się na przestrzeni wieków? Kiedy nastawienie Koreańczyków z Południa zmieniło się na lepsze? Poniższy artykuł zawiera odpowiedzi na powyższe pytania, oparte na wnikliwej kwerendzie tekstów związanych z tematem, opartych na źródłach historiograficznych. W pierwszej części omówiono wpływ konfucjańskich idei Trzech Podstawowych Więzi i Pięciu Niezmiennych Cnót (三綱五倫, 삼강오륜 [samgang oryun]) na obraz ‘właściwego związku’ i taoistyczny podział ról płciowych oparty na przeciwnościach energetycznych (yin (陰, 음 [eum]) i yang (陽, 양 [yang])) zostaną wyjaśnione. Posłuży to jako podstawa do zrozumienia kulturowego sprzeciwu wobec związków osób tej samej płci. Poniższy podrozdział zawiera chronologiczny przegląd najważniejszych zapisów historycznych dotyczących związków osób tej samej płci. W trzecim podrozdziale przedstawiono utworzone w latach 90 grupy mniejszości seksualnych, takie jak Chodong Society (초동회 [chodonghoe]), Between Friends (친구사이 [chingusai]) i Maeum 001 (마음001 [maeum gongongil]), które wywarły największy wpływ o rozwoju współczesnego ruchu LGBT w Korei Południowej. W ostatniej części przedstawiono aktualne zmiany i problemy, z jakimi boryka się południowokoreańskie społeczeństwo LGBT.

Artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytania: Jak możemy rozumieć pojęcie „kryminał gejowski”? Czy w Polsce wyodrębniła się taka odmiana gatunkowa? Czy jest to odmiana kryminału, czy raczej powieści gejowskiej? Przedmiot zainteresowania stanowią między innymi utwory Edwarda Pasewicza (Śmierć w darkroomie), Michała Witkowskiego (Drwal, Zbrodniarz i dziewczyna) i Andrzeja Selerowicza (Kryptonim „Hiacynt”, Zbrodnia, której nie było). Analiza tych utworów skupia się na sposobie wykorzystania schematu kryminalnego oraz wybranych taktyk pisarskich w kontekście najpopularniejszych strategii charakterystycznych dla konwencji kryminalnej (np. zwrot w stronę powieści społecznie zaangażowanej, eksplorowanie przestrzeni miejskiej, psychologizacja bohaterów), a także najważniejszych cech powieści środowiskowej (różne koncepcje przedstawiania grup społecznych). W konsekwencji definicja kryminału gejowskiego odnosi się zarówno do cech powieści środowiskowej, jak i kryminalnej, sytuując analizowany fenomen literacki w domenie odmian gatunkowych literatury popularnej, wraz z właściwymi jej historycznymi przekształceniami poetyki oraz semantyki tekstów.
This paper is an attempt at finding answers to the following questions: How can the term gay crime novel be understood? Has such a sub-genre been established in Poland? Is it a sub-genre of crime fiction or rather gay novel? The author examines works by such writers as Edward Pasewicz (Śmierć w darkroomie [The Death in the Darkroom]), Michał Witkowski (Drwal [The Woodcutter], Zbrodniarz i dziewczyna [The Criminal and the Girl]), and Andrzej Selerowicz (Kryptonim „Hiacynt” [Codename Hyacinth], Zbrodnia, której nie było [The Crime that Never Was]). The analysis of the works is focused on the use of the crime scheme and selected writ-ing techniques in the context of the most popular strategies typical of crime fiction convention (e.g. a shift towards a socially engaged novel, urban space exploration, psychologisation of protagonists) as well as the most important characteristics of naturalistic novel (different ideas of presenting social groups).
