Opis:
Understanding specialized discourse requires the identification and activation of knowledge structures underlying the text. The expansion and enhancement of knowledge is thus an important part of the specialized translation process (Faber 2015). This paper explores how the analysis of terminological meaning can be addressed from the perspective of Frame-Based Terminology (FBT) (Faber 2012, 2015), a cognitive approach to domain-specific language, which directly links specialized knowledge representation to cognitive linguistics and cognitive semantics. In this study, context expansion was explored in a three-stage procedure: from single terms to multi-word terms, from multi-word terms to phrases, and from phrases to frames. Our results showed that this approach provides valuable insights into the identification of the knowledge structures underlying specialized texts.

The aim is to develop an integrated design space for CAD of technological equipments. The model of the design environment is represented as a two-level hierarchical decision-making system. The proposed environment provides support for creating and manipulating 3D models of technological equipment and their components, calculating functional and structural properties and the evaluation criteria, and for determining the rules to control the design process for optimizing the portfolio of interdependent projects of technological equipments. As examples the design of workholder is considered. The computer aided workholder design system is created on Case Based Reasoning, in which the attributes of the workpiece and structure of workholder as case index code are designed for the retrieve of the similar cases, and the structure and hierarchical relation of case library are stored. The structure of case storage (database and knowledge base) for general workholders selected as an object for mining and sampling of the developed software are worked out. It is offered to apply a method of neural networks to realization procedure of forecasting of decisions. The considered algorithms of knowledge extraction are realized by development of invariant nucleus design space.

We introduce a uniform non-monotonic framework for knowledge representation based on epistemic logic which is sufficiently general to encompass several nonmonotonic formalisms, including circumscription, autoepistemic logic, various semantics proposed for logic programs and deductive databases (stable semantics, well-founded semantics and stationary semantics) as well as Gelfond’s epistemic specifications. The existence of such a uniform framework allows us not only to provide simpler and perhaps more natural definitions of various formalisms but it also enables us to better understand mutual relationships existing between them.

There are various approaches to ontology metamodelling, and the notion of biologically inspired modular knowledge representation systems can provide insight in the workings of such phenomena as emergent properties of network structures. What is more relevant from knowledge engineering standpoint, such approach could provide innovation and enhancement of the level of expression as well as overall functionality of modular ontologies. To do so, one needs to find biological structures that would be the basis for modularity on different levels of hierarchy within the artificial system. Network analysis tools as well as systems biology and biocomputing provide a framework for research in this field.

Knowledge based systems in medical domains are common nowadays. Machine learning techniques are broadly used to generate knowledge for such systems. Developers have to choose not only the learning method, but also, what is even more important, the knowledge representation method. The most common criterion for such a choice is prediction accuracy. In the paper we argue that in certain cases knowledge representation, and its simplicity and intelligibility, are more important. In this paper results of experiments performed using several medical data sets and chosen machine learning algorithms are presented. Next, some examples of learned classifiers are shown. Analysis of results conclude the work.

The article presents the possibilities of using Formal Concept Analysis, FCA, in intralingual and machine translations. Let me draw your attention to the necessity of joining formal and conceptual systems into one system based on relations of the particular semantic deposits SD in the specific knowledge representation KR with defining linguistic units. I called this defining a hybrid defining. The hybrid defining of linguistic units enables to examine their cognitive (hybrid) meaning, which is implemented in a form of a coherent semantic map of meanings. An exemplifying material, by means of which a process of meaning creation is shown, is a light unit.

The article presents the problem of knowledge representation contained in COLREGS for its use in navigation information systems. The idea of knowledge and representation of knowledge was discussed. A comparison of selected methods of knowledge representation was made and possibility of their use to represent the COLREGS rules was considered. By using selected COLREGS rule and presented methods of knowledge representation, functionality of the knowledge base was analyzed.
W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie reprezentacji wiedzy zawartej w MPDM dla potrzeb jej wykorzystania w nawigacyjnych systemach informacyjnych. Omówiono pojęcie wiedzy oraz sposoby jej reprezentowania. Dokonano porównania wybranych metod reprezentacji wiedzy. Rozpatrzono możliwość ich zastosowania do reprezentacji prawideł MPDM. Na przykładzie wybranego prawidła przeanalizowano funkcjonalność bazy wiedzy utworzonej z użyciem przedstawionych metod reprezentacji wiedzy. Sformułowano wnioski.

W pracy przedstawiono ideę hierarchicznej reprezentacji wiedzy dla automatycznego podejmowania decyzji. Hierarchiczna reprezentacja wiedzy została zaproponowana do modelowania predykcji. Pokazano efektywne podejmowanie decyzji na przykładzie klasyfikacji zbioru danych, który nie jest separowany liniowo. Warto podkreślić, że nie założono wiedzy a priori o zbiorze danych oraz relacji między elementami tego zbioru oraz że proponowany algorytm automatycznie odkrywa optymalne granice decyzyjne między nimi. Przedstawiono algorytm konstrukcji hierarchicznej reprezentacji wiedzy, który wprowadza ocenę jakościową powstałej struktury na poszczególnych poziomach decyzyjnych. Przeprowadzony eksperyment numeryczny pokazuje zalety proponowanego algorytmu, który może być wykorzystany do zadań klasyfikacji, gdzie występuje problem doboru algorytmu klasyfikacji.
In the paper the study of knowledge hierarchical representation for automated reasoning is presented. The hierarchical knowledge representation is proposed for predictive modeling purpose. It is improved an effective automated reasoning structure for data set analyzes and making decisions based on complex relations between this data. It is important to emphasize that it is not considered a - priori knowledge concerning data structure, therefore the approach automatically discovers particular constraints between data. It provides a technique of the verification the hierarchical knowledge representation building process that can be useful for the model justification. The presented numerical experiment shows an advantage of proposed approach. It is assumed that the presented automated reasoning can be used for classification purpose where there is a difficulty of proper classifier choice.

The paper presents Bayesian Networks (BN) technology in the context of methodological requirements for building knowledge representation systems in the domain of agricultural engineering. BN, by their nature, are especially useful for modeling uncertain domains like agricultural production and food chains management.

Opis:
The problem of materials selection in terms of their mechanical properties during the design of new products is a key issue of design. The complexity of this process is mainly due to a multitude of variants in the previously produced materials and the possibility of their further processing improving the properties. In everyday practice, the problem is solved basing on expert or designer knowledge. The paper is the proposition of a solution using computer-aided analysis of material experimental data, which may be acquired from external data sources. In both cases, taking into account the rapid growth of data, additional tools become increasingly important, mainly those which offer support for adding, viewing, and simple comparison of different experiments. In this paper, the use of formal knowledge representation in the form of an ontology is proposed as a bridge between physical repositories of data in the form of files and user queries, which are usually formulated in natural language. The number and the sophisticated internal structure of attributes or parameters that could be the criteria of the search for the user are an important issue in the traditional data search tools. Ontology, as a formal representation of knowledge, enables taking into account the known relationships between concepts in the field of cast iron, materials used and processing techniques. This allows the user to receive support by searching the results of experiments that relate to a specific material or processing treatment. Automatic presentation of the results which relate to similar materials or similar processing treatments is also possible, which should make the conducted analysis of the selection of materials or processing treatments more comprehensive by including a wider range of possible solutions.

The article discusses the problem of knowledge representation language selection for domain ontologies. In the article the use of ontology as a tool of knowledge representation was presented and the analysis of logical formalisms such as frames, logic programs, description logic, first-order logic and common logic was carried out. Then a number of classic and markup based knowledge representation languages were analysed: Ontolingua, LOOM, OCML, FLogic, SHOE, RDF(S), OWL, OWL2. Based on the analysis of literature relationships and dependencies between versions and profiles of the OWL language were systematised. The article ends with the conclusion, according to which OWL 2 DL language is the most expressive language of retaining decidability, and therefore it is characterized by the highest applicability in the construction of domain ontologies allowing inference.

The objective of studies presented in this publication was structuring of research knowledge about the ADI functional properties and changes in these properties due to material treatment. The results obtained were an outcome of research on the selection of a format of knowledge representation that would be useful in further work aiming at the design, application and implementation of an effective system supporting the decisions of a technologist concerning the choice of a suitable material (ADI in this case) and appropriate treatment process (if necessary). ALSV(FD) logic allows easy modelling of knowledge, which should let addressees of the target system carry out knowledge modelling by themselves. The expressiveness of ALSV (FD) logic allows recording the values of attributes from the scope of the modelled domain regarding ADI, which is undoubtedly an advantage in the context of further use of the logic. Yet, although the logic by itself does not allow creating the rules of knowledge, it may form a basis for the XTT format that is rule-based notation. The difficulty in the use of XTT format for knowledge modelling is acceptable, but formalism is not suitable for the discovery of rules, and therefore the knowledge of technologist is required to determine the impact of process parameters on values that are functional properties of ADI. The characteristics of ALSV(FD) logic and XTT formalism, described in this article, cover the most important aspects of a broadly discussed, full evaluation of the applicability of these solutions in the construction of a system supporting the decisions of a technologist.

The paper presents a concept of diagnostic network models. This class of models consists of statement networks in which nodes represent statements concerning an object. Opis:
Modern intelligent applications based on semantic technologies constitute an interesting class of Knowledge-Based Systems. The paper gives an overview of the methods and tools used in semantic systems and presents the research concerning adaptation of well-founded solutions for Rule-Based Systems to the semantic systems conditions. Theoretical solutions as well as practical implementations are briefly discussed. Outline of future directions and research problems is given.
Nowoczesne systemy inteligentne, wykorzystujące technologie i języki semantyczne, stanowią interesują klasę systemów opartych na wiedzy. W tym nowym kontekście warto rozważyć wykorzystanie rozwiązań wypracowanych w klasycznych sztucznej inteligencji, w szczególności systemach regułowych. W artykule nakreślono obszar badawczy obejmujący integrację istniejących metod i narzędzi z tego obszaru z rozwiązaniami Sieci Semantycznej. Poruszono zarówno problem integracji wybranych formalizmów stanowiących podstawy logiczne reprezentacji wiedzy w obydwu dziedzinach, jak i praktyczne implementacje systemów.

In this paper, acquisition of knowledge from user's programs written in Pascal to the knowledge base of the computer is introduced. It is shown that system with such a kind of knowledge can be used as the automatic programming system. First, representation of knowledge acquired by the computer from different programs is characterized. Then searching for pieces of knowledge in the knowledge base needed for synthesis of a program specified in user requirement is described. Finally, the construction of a new program from the found pieces of knowledge is shown.

From Signals to Knowledge and from Knowledge to Action: Peircean Semiotics and the Grounding of Cognition

Opis:
Cognition is meant as the process of acquiring knowledge from the world. This process is supposed to happen within agents, which build such knowledge with the purpose to use it to determine their actions on the world. Following Peircean ideas, we postulate that such knowledge is encoded by means of signs. According to Peirce, signs are anything that can be used to represent anything else. Also, for Peirce, to represent means to be able to generate another sign, called the interpretant of the original sign, which still holds the same power of interpretability, I.e, its power to be transformed into a new sign, holding this same power. This happens through a processcalled semiosis, the process by which a sign is transformed into an interpretant. This whole process is performed with the aim of subsidizing the agent in deciding its behavior. So, even though the semiosis process has the power to continue infinitely, it usually stops whenever the generated interpretant brings enough information in order for the agent to effectively act in the world. We take signals to be the substract of signs. Signals are any physical property, which can be measured and captured by the agent, by means of its sensors. This includes any kind of internal memory the agent is able to have access, in order to operate. In this sense, signs can be both in the world (if these signals come from sensors) and within the own agent’s mind (if signals come from an internal memory). We understandan agent’s mind as the agents’ control system. In either case, signals can be abstracted as numbers. Not simply numbers, but numbers coming from specific sensors or specific memories. Using ideas from Peircean philosophy, in this work we postulate a pathway, in which signals, collected by either sensors or memory, can be organized in such a way that they can be effectively used as knowledge, in order for an agent to be able to decide its actions on the world, on the pursuit of its internal motivations. We postulate that agents identify and create a model of the world based on possibilities, existents, and laws, and based on this model, they are able to decide an action that maximizes the chance for the world to gain a shape, which the agents intend for it to be. This theory is postulated particularly for the case of artificial autonomous agents, meant to be constructed by engineering artifacts.

Opis:
A Context Search algorithm used for lexical knowledge acquisition is presented. Knowledge representation based on psycholinguistic theories of cognitive processes allows for implementation of a computational model of semantic memory in the form of semantic network. Knowledge acquisition using supervised dialog templates have been performed in a word game designed to guess the concept a human user is thinking about. The game that has been implemented on a web server, demonstrates elementary linguistic competencies based on lexical knowledge stored in semantic memory, enabling at the same time acquisition and validation of knowledge. Possible applications of the algorithm in domains of medical diagnosis and information retrieval are sketched.

The paper presents Bayesian Networks (BNs) in the context of methodological requirements for building knowledge representation systems in the domain of reliability engineering. BNs, by their nature, are especially useful as a formal and computable language for modeling stochastic and epistemic uncertainty intrinsically present in conceptualization and reasoning about reliability.

Ze swej natury, sieci bayesowskie, są szczególnie przydatne jako formalny i obliczalny język do modelowania niepewności stochastycznej i epistemicznej, Takie rodzaje niepewności są istotną cechą konceptualizacji i rozumowania o niezawodność.

In this paper we present a new probability function G that generalizes the classical probability function. A mass function is an assignment of basic probability to some context (events, propositions). It represents the strength of support for some contexts in a domain. A context is a subset of the basic elements of interest in a domain - the frame of discernment. It is a medium to carry the "probabilistic" knowledge about a domain. The G function is defined in terms of a mass function under various contexts. G is shown to be a probability function satisfying the axioms of probability. Therefore G has all the properties attributed to a probability function. If the mass function is obtained from probability function by normalization, then G is shown to be a linear function of probability distribution and a linear function of probability. With this relationship we can estimate probability distribution from probabilistic knowledge carried in some contexts without any model assumption.

Opis:
As the acquisition and sharing of knowledge form the backbone of the software development process, it is important to identify knowledge discrepancies between the process elements. Explicit representation of the knowledge components within a software process model can provide a means to expose these discrepancies. This paper presents an extension of the Software and System Process Engineering Metamodel (SPEM), to be used as a new knowledge modeling layer. The approach, which is based on ontologies for knowledge representation, constitutes an explicit method for representing knowledge within process models. A concept matching indicator shows the state of the process model in terms of the concept gaps for each task within the process. This indicator could lead to more informed decision making and better management of the associated risks, in terms of team competency, documentation quality, and the training required to mitigate them.

Understanding environment is a very complex task. Modeling and development of components of the environment in a symbolic way permit to simplify and clarify functional parts of components and interactions. In order to have a complete system specification, a rigorous behavior description is needed. Different levels of behavior abstraction are taking into account. The objective of our semantic modeling is to enhance architectural design and reduce complexity. It permits to agents to understand the environment, manage events and adapt the architecture. All the concepts of the environment like the component models and their behavior models are stored under event frames written in knowledge representation language. We present in this document, a generalized meta-model of behavioral aspects, that indexes the various environment behaviors in three ontologies. We have fully linked abstraction level with modeling and execution of scenarios. We show how software semantic agents can be modeled to build any interactive architecture.

Opis:
Design of distributed complex systems raises several important challenges, such as: confidentiality, data authentication and integrity, semantic contextual knowledge sharing, as well as common and intelligible understanding of the environment. Among the many challenges are semantic heterogeneity that occurs during dynamic knowledge extraction and authorization decisions which need to be taken when a resource is Accessem in an open, dynamic environment. Blockchain offers the tools to protect sensitive personal data and solve reliability issues by providing a secure communication architecture. However, setting-up blockchain-based applications comes with many challenges, including processing and fusing heterogeneous information from various sources. The ontology model explored in this paper relies on a unified knowledge representation method and thus is the backbone of a distributed system aiming to tackle semantic heterogeneity and to model decentralized management of Access control authorizations.We intertwine the blockchain technology with an ontological model to enhance knowledge management processes for distributed systems. Therefore, rather than reling on the mediation of a third party, the approach enhances autonomous decision-making. The proposed approach collects data generated by sensors into higher-level abstraction using n-ary hierarchical structures to describe entities and actions. Moreover, the proposed semantic architecture relies on hyperledger fabric to ensure the checking and authentication of knowledge integrity while preserving privacy.

W referacie przedstawiono fragment systemu doradczego Diadyn. Diadyn to otwarty internetowy system doradczy. W systemie tym, do reprezentacji wiedzy zastosowano koncepcję stwierdzeń. Stwierdzenia są reprezentowane jako węzły w sieci stwierdzeń. W systemie Diadyn wiedza jest reprezentowana w postaci sieci stwierdzeń. Sam system Diadyn składa się z wielu modułów. Niektóre z nich są przeznaczone do zapisywania wiedzy. Inne służą do zapisywania objaśnień wyników przeprowadzonego wnioskowania. Do realizacji tych zadań przygotowano dwa moduły Dia_Wiki oraz Dia_Sta. Opis tych modułów przedstawiono w tym referacie.
In this paper a part of an expert system called Diadyn is presented. Diadyn is an open internet expert system. In this system the knowledge representation is based on statement concept. Statements are nodes in a statement network. Within Diadyn system the knowledge is represented by means of the statement network. The Diadyn consists of several modules. Some of them are built for coding the knowledge. The others are prepared for writing explanations of inference results. In order to perform this task, modules called Dia_Wiki and Dia_Sta are prepared. A description of this modules is presented in this paper.
