Opis:
A heavily Si-doped GaN/polymer hybrid structure with p-type poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene):beta-1,3-glucan (PEDOT nanoparticle) interface layer has been fabricated. The Si-doped GaN thin film with carrier concentration of 1 × $10^{19} cm^{-3}$ was grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The PEDOT nanoparticle with various sizes ranging from 60 to 120 nm was synthesized via a miniemulsion polymerization process. The electrical conductivity of the PEDOT nanoparticle is less than 1.2 S/cm. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristic of the hybrid structure shows diode-like behavior. The I-V characteristic was examined in the framework of the thermionic emission model. The ideality factor of the structure without PEDOT nanoparticle interface layer is 12.9. However, the ideality factor of the hybrid structure with PEDOT nanoparticle interface layer is obtained as 1.9. The value of ideality factor is dramatically decreased by inserting the PEDOT nanoparticle interface layer.

The mixed adsorption of azathioprine and Triton X-100 or Tween 80 at the mercury/ chlorates (VII) interface wasdescribed. The differential capacitance of the double layer Cd at the Hg/ basic electrolyte interface was measured using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The potential of zero charge Ez wasdetermined applying streaming mercury electrode and the surface tension at the potential of zero charge γz was measured by the method of the highest pressure inside the mercury drop. The changes of determined parameters in the function of the supporting electrolyte concentration point with the participation of ClO4-ions in the adsorption process, as well as the electrostatic interactions between the dipoles of H2O and azathioprine–Triton X-100 or azathioprine–Tween 80 in the double layer are shown.

In order to investigate the evolution trend of rail corrugation under the action of slip and interface effects, stick-slip vibration characteristics of a wheel-rail system in different line con- ditions have been analyzed in detail by establishing a complete three-dimensional coupling metro vehicle-track numerical model and considering the friction memory effect characteriz- ing the slip rate and state dependence as well as interface effect. The results show that on a straight line, the friction memory effect has less influence on the wheel-rail contact stick-slip characteristics, and the values and variation ranges of adhesion coefficients and creepages are relatively small, indicating that it is difficult for the wheel-rail system to have stick-slip vibration, which makes it less likely to form rail corrugation. On a curved line, the fluctua- tion amplitudes of the inside longitudinal stick-slip characteristics and the outside transverse stick-slip characteristics are relatively large, which illustrates that the inside wheel-rail sys- tem is more prone to stick-slip vibration in the longitudinal direction, while the outside wheel-rail system is more prone to stick-slip vibration in the transverse direction, thus lead- ing to different forms of rail corrugation. The friction memory effect reduces longitudinal and transverse creepages of both the inside and outside wheel-rail systems, demonstrating that the friction memory effect can moderate the relative wheel-rail slip and thus reduce the development rate of rail corrugation. The interface effect makes longitudinal and transverse adhesion coefficients of the wheel-rail system tend to homogenize and mostly decrease, while the corresponding creepages tend to increase. Although an increase in the creepage induces an enhanced interface slip, a smaller adhesion coefficient does not cause a significant change in the corrugation evolution. Friction memory and interface effects can cause the wheel-rail contact adhesion area ratio to increase, thus making the contact stick-slip distribution tend to homogenize, which is beneficial to reduce wear in the contact area and promote wear to homogenize.

This paper addresses the 3D FE simulation of the normal interaction of stiff but deformable particles in binder matrix on the meso-scale. The particles are assumed to be elastic spheres while matrix is considered as viscoelastic solid. The investigation is aimed to capture interaction in terms of normal forces under tension. The problem is considered by applying geometrically linear and nonlinear approaches. Results illustrate influence of initial interparticle gap reduction of which yields significant increase of the interaction force. Comparison between purely elastic and viscoelastic solutions is also presented.
Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy trójwymiarowej symulacji metodą elementów skończonych oddziaływania w kierunku normalnym sztywnych, ale odkształcalnych cząstek w spoistej osnowie na poziomie mezoskopowym. Cząstki są traktowane jako sprężyste kule, zaś osnowa jako ciało lepkosprężyste. Badania mają na celu znalezienie sił oddziaływania pod obciążeniem. Zagadnienie jest rozpatrywane przy zastosowaniu modelu geometrycznie liniowego i nieliniowego. Wyniki pokazują wpływ wstępnego zmniejszenia odstępu na znaczący wzrost siły oddziaływania. Przedstawione jest również porównanie między rozwiązaniem sprężystym i lepkosprężystym.

Grazing incidence X-ray scattering measurements have been performed to probe the structure of CoFe/Ru layers and their interfaces. It was found that the interface width increased approximately linearly with the layer number from the substrate in a multilayer and that a substantial asymmetry existed between the width of CoFe/Ru and Ru/CoFe interfaces. By co-minimizing both the specular and diffuse scatter with that simulated from a model structure, the topological roughness amplitude was determined to be comparable to the intermixing interface width.

The Rayleigh wave propagation problem in the elastic halfspace - viscoelastic layer interface was analysed in the paper. The problem was formulated in the Fourier-Laplace space using the Biot viscoelastic solid model. The characteristic equation has taken the Rayleigh equation form with correction term describing viscoelastic layer properties influence on the wave velocity. The approach presented here seems to be useful for surface acoustic waves gas sensors modelling because many chemisensitive coatings applied to the sensors exhibit viscoelastic properties.

High-quality thin Si layers obtained from the solution by epitaxial lateral overgrowth (ELO) can play a crucial role in photovoltaic applications. The laterally overgrown parts of the layer are characterized by a lower dislocation density than that of the substrate. The height and width of the layer depend on several factors, such as the technological conditions of liquid phase expitaxy (LPE), growth temperature, cooling rate and the geometry of the system (mask filling factor). Therefore, it is crucial to find the optimal set of technological parameters in order to obtain very thin structures with a maximum width (high aspect ratio). This paper presents a computational study of Si epilayer growth on a line-pattern masked silicon substrate from Si-Sn rich solution. To solve this problem, a mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian approach was applied. The concentration profile was calculated by solving the two-dimensional diffusion equation with appropriate boundary conditions. The growth velocity was determined on the basis of gradients of concentration in the border of the interface. Si interface evolution from the opened window was demonstrated.

Numerical results of a new (interface-rescaling) theory of normal excitations in a triple-layer film are reported. The film is modelled by three one dimensional finite chains coupled together; the coupling across the interface is properly taken into account. The formation process of the film energy spectrum as a result of interface (i.e. inter-chain) coupling is studied, and the exact conditions for the existence of interface-localized modes are established.

In modern nanomaterial production, including those for medical purposes, carbon based materials are important, due to their inert nature and interesting properties. The essential attribute for biomaterials is their biocompatibility, which indicates way of interactions with host cells and body fluids. The aim of our work was to analyze two types of model carbon layers differing primarily in topography, and developing their interactions with blood plasma proteins. The first layer was formed of pyrolytic carbon C (CVD) and the second was constructed of multi-walled carbon nanotubes obtained by electrophoretic deposition (EPD), both set on a Ti support. The performed complex studies of carbon layers demonstrate significant dissimilarities regarding their interaction with chosen blood proteins, and points to the differences related to the origin of a protein: whether it is animal or human. However the basic examinations, such as: wettability test and nano sctatch tests were not sufficient to explain the material properties. In contrast, Raman microspectroscopy thoroughly decodes the phenomena occurring at the carbon structures in contact with the selected blood proteins. The 2D correlation method selects the most intense interaction and points out the different mechanism of interactions of proteins with the nanocarbon surfaces and differentiation due to the nature of the protein and its source: animal or human. The 2D correlation of the Raman spectra of the MWCNT layer+HSA interphase proves an increase in albumin β-conformation. The presented results explain the unique properties of the Clayers (CVD) in contact with human albumin.

The aim of this paper is the numerical analysis of the one of main part of car engine – piston sleeve. The first example is for piston sleeve made of metal matrix composite (MMC) A356R. The second improved material structure is layered. Both of them are comparison to the classical structure of piston sleeve made of Cr-Ni stainless steel. The layered material structure contains the anti-abrasion layer at the inner surface of piston sleeve, where the contact and friction is highest, FGM (functionally graded material) interface and the layer of virgin material on the outer surface made of A356R. The complex thermo-elastic model with Archard's condition as a wear law is proposed. The piston sleeve is modelling as a thin walled cylindrical axisymmetric shell. The coupled between the formulation of thermoelasticity of cylindrical axisymmetric shell and the Archard’s law with functionally changes of local hardness is proposed.

This paper presents the results of shear tests of layered specimens reinforced with road grids in the prototype device, which allows for the application of additional normal loads perpendicular to the plane of connecting layers. The presented results may be used to assess the influence of reinforcing grids on pavement inter-layer interface behavior.

The paper deals with the theoretical investigation of the phenomenon, which consists in generation - by wind - of the movement of water, the bodies of air and of water being separated by a horizontal, plane interface, which is identical with the free surface of water. A set of assumptions defining a physical model of the phenomenon, borrowed from Lock (1951), is introduced, as well as the mathematical description of this model. It reduces to a composite ordinary differential problem, containing two non-linear equations of the third order, which have to satisfy some boundary conditions. A novel method of solution of the differential problem just mentioned is presented in the paper. In the method use is made of exact formulae for coefficients of series representing the solution. The method seems to be competitive with the one given in the paper by Lock (1951).

The article is devoted to the elastostatic three-dimensional problem of an interface sheet-like inclusion (anticrack) embedded into a periodic two-layered unbounded composite. An approximate analysis is carried out within the framework of the homogenized model with microlocal parameters. The formulation and the method of solving the general problem for an arbitrarily shaped inclusion is presented. As an example illustrating this method, the problem for a rigid circular inclu- sion under perpendicular tension is solved explicitly and discussed from the point of view of failure theory.

In this experimental study, a flow through a two-dimensional channel partially containing porous media is investigated. A two-layer structure comprising of a saturated porous layer with an overlaying fluid flow layer in a rectangular horizontal channel is designed for the experiments. Flow characteristics at the interface between clear fluid and porous layer are investigated. The porous layer consists of cylindrical rod bundle placed horizontally on the side walls of the channel in arranged square arrays. In the experiments, water white oil is used as the working fluid to match the refractive index of the cylindrical rods made of Plexiglas. Visualizations and measurements have been acquired by digital particle image velocimetry system for the velocity profiles which help us to evaluate the interface velocity and slip coefficient at the interface region. The measurement of interface velocity profile is repeated for circular, square, and 45^{°} rotated square cylindrical rods to understand the effects of the structure of the interface region. It has been observed that dimensionless slip or interface velocity depends significantly on the surface structure at the interface region when cylindrical rods each with circular, square, and 45^{°} rotated square cross-sections are used as porous medium. The volumetric flow rate can be changed according to the cross-sections of cylindrical rods. The permeability for the different arrangements of cylindrical rods is computed by an analytical study. The dimensionless slip velocity, slip coefficient, particle image velocimetry images, experimental and numerical velocity vector maps, and velocity profiles at the interface are presented.

This paper is concerned with the problem of an interface insulated plane crack obstructing a uniform heat flux in a two-layer microperiodic space. An approximate analysis is performed within the framework of linear stationary thermoelasticity with microlocal parameters. A general method of solving the resulting boundary-value problem is presented. It is based on the use of potential functions and an analogy between the thermal crack problem and the skew-symmetric mechanical loading problem. The thermal stress singularities are discussed.
Problem stałego przepływu ciepła zakłóconego istnieniem izolowanej termicznie szczeliny międzywarstwowej w periodycznie dwuwarstwowej przestrzeni jest przedmiotem pracy. Przybliżoną analizę przeprowadzono w ramach liniowej stacjonarnej termosprężystości z parametrami mikrolokalnymi. Podano i zilustrowano metodę rozwiązania wynikającego zagadnienia brzegowego, polegającą na zastosowaniu potencjałów harmonicznych i ustaleniu analogii z odpowiadającym mechanicznym, niesymetrycznym problemem szczeliny. Zbadano osobliwości naprężeń cieplnych wokół szczeliny.
