Insurance Market
Opis:
The insurance sector in Poland has been developing in certain conditions of macro-economic environment. The process in which the phenomena in the insurance market takes place is determined by the speed of development of the whole economy. The dynamics of the development may be seen in the size of GDP, in the size of foreign trade and in the level of foreign investments. The macroeconomic indicators confirm the continuing economic growth. This affects the development of the market in a favourable way because it means that there is a large demand for insurance products. The increasing demand is a strong stimulus of the further market development. Good forecasts of the economic development encourage foreign investors to deposit capital in Poland. The insurance sector is also an attractive place for foreign investments. The conditions of activity of the insurance market have been determined by law regulations that are based on the directives of the European Union. Although the level of development of the Polish insurance market is still lower than in many countries of the European Union the currently perceived tendencies lead to a decrease of the existing disproportions.

The aim of the paper is an approximation of the concept of digital risk, its classification and increasing importance from the point of view of the threats to civilization. In the text the identification and classification of digital risks has been described. The article focuses on the presentation of the scale of the threat associated with digitalization. The paper also describes new types of digital risk associated with centralizing databases and solar flares. Having regard to the nature and size of the losses, these risks are very difficult to insure. It should be pointed out that the further development of digitization is closely associated with the activities of the insurance sector. The development of digitalization creates the opportunity for the sector to be innovative and, in carrying out its mission to assist in the development of civilization, in the near future to create an adequate insurance offer. The sector should actively involve in activities to handle the described risk.

Opis:
Recent scientific research confirms that climate change is a strategic topic, with environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) aspects becoming a decisive factor in business analysis and investment strategies. Additionally, regulatory and legislative changes put pressure on insurance companies to address climate risks. New European Union regulations give investors and consumers an opportunity to consciously decide whether to include ESG factors in their portfolios and contribute to their popularization. While the experience of investors with ESG is still limited, climate risk is now a top concern for insurance companies, with some managers seeing ESG as a growth opportunity. Compliance with sustainability requirements and incorporating ESG into insurance and investment products can help insurers attract a growing number of green-minded consumers and achieve a positive financial return on investment. By incorporating ESG factors into risk assessment and underwriting processes, insurers can limit their losses from the growing number and scope of climate risks. Pension funds and insurance companies, as investors with a long investment horizon, pay more attention to shareholder rights, risk, and their reputation. The importance of this issue prompted the authors to undertake research aimed at determining the importance of ESG regulations and green transformation for the insurance sector, and identifying the challenges insurance companies are facing in this regard. The article is based on quantitative research, supplemented with individual in-depth interviews, and fills the research gap for Poland in terms of the insurance sector’s perception of the challenges of green transformation. The aim of this article is to present the concept of ESG, regulations and activities of the European Union in this area, indicating their impact on the insurance sector and identifying challenges. The research question formulated for the purposes of this study are the challenges of the insurance sector in the field of ESG. To analyze this issue, the research questions were asked whether the introduced ESG regulations have a positive impact on the local and European markets, whether the local insurance market is less prepared for green transformation than the European one, which customers are most interested in green insurance products, whether climate risk is a significant threat to the insurance market. The results of the research presented in this article indicate that the impact of climate risk on the activities of insurance companies is particularly important and provide answers to the research questions. The conducted research has confirmed, among others, that the interest of customers of Polish insurance companies in ESG aspects is at a medium level, with the highest one in the aspect related to sustainable development. The most important risk, according to brokers on the Polish market, are interruptions in electricity supplies and the liability of company authorities for management errors. The results also show that participants of the insurance sector in Central and Eastern Europe believe that the impact of the new ESG regulations on local markets will be rather low, but they estimate that the workload in implementing them will be disproportionate to the impact. They assess the market itself as somewhat prepared in terms of the offer of green investment products, with the demand for such products being low. However, according to them, climate risk is insurable to a low or medium degree. EU regulations shape the Polish financial market, and the coming years will be crucial for ESG investments. Sustainable development can strengthen the position of the Polish financial market in the international arena. The need for dialogue between investors and business will grow, and the quality of reported ESG information will increasingly determine access to capital. Therefore, it will also indirectly support the transition of the entire economy to one based on the principles of sustainable development and increase the business attractiveness of the entire region.

Opis:
This work is a response to the EIOPA paper entitled 'Systemic risk and macroprudential policy in insurance', which asserts that in order to evaluate the potential systemic risk (SR), the build-up of risk, especially risk arising over time, should be taken into account, as well as the interlinkages occurring in the financial sector and the whole economy. The topological indices of minimum spanning trees (MST) and the deltaCoVaR measure are the main tools used to analyse the systemic risk dynamics in the European insurance sector in the years 2005-2019. The article analyses the contribution of each of the 28 largest European insurance companies, including those appearing on the G-SIIs list, to systemic risk. Moreover, the paper aims to determine whether the most important contribution to systemic risk is made by companies with the highest betweenness centrality or the highest degree in the obtained MST.

Opis:
In 2012, the gross written premium in almost all groups of life as well as property and personal insurance. Growth of the amount of damages and benefits was a little bit lower. All the insurance companies met the requirement of coverage of the solvency margin, guarantee capital with equities as well as the requirement of coverage of technical and insurance reserves with assets. Having analysed all financial indices, one may ascertain that the financial standing of the sector of insurance both of the section I and II, in 2012, was in Poland stable, and it insignificantly improved vis-à-vis the previous year.

Opis:
Kenneth J. Arrow’s disruptive work, 'Medical Uncertainty and Welfare Economics’, published in 1963, was one of the first studies investigating the effects of moral hazard on the healthcare sector. Since then, countless works exploring that subject have been published. The history of research on moral hazard in medical insurance shows that this concept is defined differently in other areas of the economy than healthcare. Purpose – The proposed work is an attempt to understand and conceptualize the moral hazard in health insurance. As uncommon circumstances marked 2020, we now consider health insurance through the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. This work discusses the results of an investigation of the impact of moral hazard and its implications on the health insurance sector during COVID-19. Research method – The author designed and conducted a study that presented several metrics involving the distribution of medical expenditures, the effect of price on medical care consumption, the PLS (profit and loss sharing) concept, and their mediating and moderating effect on moral hazard in the insurance sector. Results – There is a statistically significant and very strong relationship with a positive sign (β = 0.79; p <0.001) between the price effect and the moral hazard. The analyses show also that the price effect coexists statistically with the PLS, and the relationship between these variables is moderately strong and positive (β = 0.79; p <0.001). Originality – Insignificant relationship between the PLS and the moral hazard can be seen while the price is entered into the model (β = 0.03; p = 0.450). The lack of mediation could confirm that the price effect plays a major role in a moral hazard.

The study concluded that increase in foreign direct investment (F.D.I.) is optimistic move for the future of Indian Life Insurance Sector, since this sector need huge amount of capital investment which can be done effectively only through increase in FDI and it enhance overall performance of insurance sector. Innovative insurance product and services, better use of technology, increase in employment and competition etc. are by-product of increase in F.D.I in insurance Sector. Government of India through Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (I.R.D.A.I.) and Reserve Bank of India (R.B.I.) need to keep regular check on the outflow of India currency. India is growing economy and many consider it an attractive country for investment in mainly to its fast growing and changing insurance market. Indian insurance industry is still less penetrated and has huge growth potential. Foreign direct investment (F.D.I.) plays significant role in the economic development of the country. This study is based on secondary data collected from I.R.D.A and research papers from various journals.
