Opis:
This article concerns the issue of reduction of CO2 emission in hybrid vehicles. External lighting through LED technology was applied to show additional CO2 savings in these vehicles. The authors propose for hybrid vehicles of M1 category: conditions of testing external lights, research equipment with measuring system and measuring method in order to determine energy savings obtained by application of external LED light. It enables to calculate saving of CO2 emission and estimate potential energy and ecological benefits. Computational formulas of CO2 emission savings and calculated fuel consumption and percentage reduction of CO2 proposed by the authors were used as a confirmation. Average worktime of lighting and three configurations of sources of lighting of hybrid vehicles were used in the analysis: halogen bulb/bulb, xenon/LED lamp and full electroluminescent external lighting.

During our research, we focus on a less researched area in the development of autonomous vehicles. Automotive industry is turning more and more from conventional, internal combustion engine equipped vehicles to the electric cars. Today, electric driving is mostly limited to urban traffic, this is the area where range and refueling limits can be a real alternative. However, it is important to think of those who intend to use vehicle in longer distances, and hybrid technology can provide them a modern, environmentally conscious way of transport. In this article, we describe the method of creating the fuel consumption influencing factors matrix, which is the starting point of our research. We studied relevant researches and based on refueling studies we created the matrix. Based on results of real tests, we determined the factor mix that are the basis of our fuel consumption prediction model. These results will be inputs of planning routes of autonomous vehicles with optimized refueling and fuel consumption.

The very rapid development of the automotive industry forces designers to implement new solutions. One of them is the construction of braking systems, which can enable the recovery of part of the energy lost during the braking process in hybrid vehicles. The article presents the basic types of hybrid drives currently used in motor vehicles. The principle of operation of the mechanical and electrical energy recovery system had been discussed, and the vehicles in which such solutions had been applied were indicated.

Extensive environmental protection activities include the promotion of alternative drive systems for motor vehicles. An important role in this field is played by hybrid vehicles, with their low operation costs being a strong marketing argument. Can such economies be conducive to the intensity of use of hybrid vehicles compared with vehicles with conventional drive systems? To answer this question, the intensity of use of hybrid vehicles was observed in a few different countries. The attention was focused on the occurrence of extreme (very low and very high) mileage values within comparable vehicle groups. The survey carried out has revealed distinct differences in the intensity of use of hybrid vehicles compared with motor vehicles with conventional drive systems (IC). The average mileage values for hybrid vehicles are higher than those recorded for conventional ones during the same period, but this difference can only be seen in the initial period of vehicle use, rapidly decreasing with vehicle operation years. The share of vehicles with extreme mileage values recorded during the period under observation, presented in the paper in several ways, declines with the years of vehicle use. In spite of that, however, the percentage of vehicles with extreme mileage values is high in HVs group against IC.

Many large cities in Europe are currently trying to reduce the amount of harmful substances for the residents. Road transport is also an important source of air pollution. One way to reduce pollutant production is to operate more environmentally friendly vehicles. The paper analyses data obtained during practical tests of a hybrid vehicle in urban traffic. The individual components of the exhaust gases are calculated in g/km and they are compared with the values for conventional vehicle propulsion. The data was obtained through a commercially available exhaust gas analyzer and a calculated amount of emissions produced from available data from the engine control unit. The results shown that using of this type of propulsion has its importance in cities with increased air pollution. During urban operation, the hybrid-powered vehicle was powered by an electric engine up to 67.70% (75.40% of the time). As a result of operating such a vehicle in the city, emissions of CO2, HC and NOx are significantly lower.

For a few years, the sales of motor vehicles with hybrid drive systems (referred to as “hybrid vehicles” or “HVs”) have been rapidly growing. However, there is a lack of information about the intensity of operation of vehicles classified in this category, which is completely new. A calculation procedure has been presented that enabled evaluation of the HV mileage growth rate. An analysis of this rate provides grounds for forecasting the changes that are likely to take place in the fleet of motor vehicles, such as the progress in the process of replacement of conventional vehicles with vehicles with alternative drive systems, and this may be a basis for predicting the reduction in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Models of the HV mileage growth process have been defined for three different countries. They indicate high mileage growth rates in the initial period of vehicle operation, e.g. until the fourth year of operation of the Auris H cars. The highest mileage growth rates in this period were observed in the Netherlands and Poland. In Germany, this rate was lower by 41%. Significant differences in the intensity of vehicle operation have been observed between the behaviour of HV owners in the countries under analysis. A considerable drop in the annual HV mileage as early as in the fifth and sixth year of vehicle operation is an alarming signal.

Opis:
Reducing energy consumption is a key focus for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) development. The popular vehicle dynamic model used in many energy management optimization studies does not capture the vehicle dynamics that the in-vehicle measurement system does. However, feedback from the measurement system is what the vehicle controller actually uses to manage energy consumption. Therefore, the optimization solely using the model does not represent what the vehicle controller sees in the vehicle. This paper reports the utility factor-weighted energy consumption using a rule-based strategy under a real-world representative drive cycle. In addition, the vehicle test data was used to perform the optimization approach. By comparing results from both rule-based and optimization-based strategies, the areas for further improving rule-based strategy are discussed. Furthermore, recent development of OBD raises a concern about the increase of energy consumption. This paper investigates the energy consumption increase with extensive OBD usage.

Vehicles powered in alternative ways have an increasing share in the car market. Their use is becoming more and more justified considering the ever more stringent standards for the emission of harmful substances from the exhaust systems of internal combustion engines and the introduction of restrictions on vehicle traffic in city centres. The possibility of using in the propulsion systems only an electric motor or its simultaneous use with the internal combustion engine enables a significant reduction of emission of harmful exhaust gas pollutants. This applies in particular to urban areas, where there are numerous exceedances of acceptable air quality standards. This problem is most noticeable in larger cities in Poland, where there is a lot of traffic. It is therefore legitimate to promote alternative vehicles powered in alternative ways. Their dual power system gives the opportunity to significantly reduce the emission of harmful substances. Therefore, the article presents own research, carried out on a chassis dynamometer, using two passenger cars, one with a spark-ignition combustion engine and the second with a hybrid drive system containing a spark-ignition engine and an electric motor (system without the possibility of recharging batteries from external sources). Vehicles were characterized by similar mass and the same displacement volumes of internal combustion engines. The results of the tests made it possible to compare cars in terms of exhaust emissions. For testing purposes, a chassis dynamometer was used, on which the WLTC homologation cycle was repeatedly reproduced. This is a new driving cycle, which replaces the NEDC cycle used so far in the type approval procedure in the European Union.

Artykuł przedstawia budowę i badania układów sterowania sześciofazowego silnika synchronicznego o magnesach trwałych (ang. PMSM) o mocy 200kW dla napędów do pojazdów elektrycznych. Napędy wielofazowe charakteryzują się większą gęstością mocy i momentu elektromagnetycznego, wyższą niezawodnością oraz niższą wagą i gabarytami w porównaniu z ich trójfazowymi kontrpartnerami. Dlatego są ostatnio intensywnie rozwijane pod katem zastosowań w elektromobilności. Wymagają jednak do zasilania rozbudowanych przekształtników tranzystorowych i dostosowania układów sterowania w szczególności dla zapewnienia podwyższonej niezawodności np. praca przy uszkodzeniu jednej z faz przekształtnika. W artykule podano podstawowe parametry napędu sześciofazowego z silnikiem synchronicznym PMSM oraz eksperymentalnym przekształtnikiem zbudowanym w technologii IGBT Układ sterowania napędu bazuje na metodzie wektorowej FOC (ang. Field Oriented Control) z podwójną transformacją Parka. Przedstawiono opracowane modele symulacyjne w programie PSIM oraz wstępne wyniki badań.
The article presents the construction and research of the control of a six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) of 200kW power for electric vehicle drives. Multiphase drives are characterized by higher power and electromagnetic torque density, higher reliability, and lower weight and dimensions compared to their three-phase counterparties. That is why they have been intensively developed recently in terms of application in electromobility. However, they require that the power supply of extensive transistor converters and further control in the specification for the assessment of reliability quality, e.g. operation with failure of one of the converters. The article presents the basic parameters of a six-phase drive with a PMSM synchronous motor and an experimental converter built in the IGBT technology. The drive control system is based on the FOC (Field Oriented Control) vector method with double Park transformation. The developed simulation models in the PSIM program and preliminary research results were presented.

To reduce air pollution and avoid petroleum exhaustion problem, many advanced countries, especially Japan installed Hybrid Vehicles (HV). As the use of HV popularizes around the world, there will be a huge amount of End-of-Life HV in the near future, and the proper treatment of these End-of-Life HVs, especially the waste NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries, will become a serious problem. Currently, the recycling of NiMH battery is gaining substantial attention. However, instead of recycling waste NiMH batteries directly, regenerating and reusing a used NiMH battery for a secondhand HV will largely reduce waste battery generation and demand for new NiMH battery. However, the environmental impact of regenerating and reusing a waste NiMH battery was not clear and has not been compared with the situation when using a brand-new NiMH battery. The purpose of this research is to compare the environmental performance (CO2 emission) of regenerated NiMH battery and brand-new NiMH battery in an HV from their production to usage stage and to discuss the validity of using a regenerated NiMH in Japan and in other countries using the Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach. This research analyzed the composition of a NiMH battery and the CO2 emission during the manufacture, transportation, regeneration and usage process of a NiMH battery. The data used in this research was collected from reports and data published by the government of Japan, vehicle makers and previous studies. Original field survey and interview research on battery regeneration operators were also performed. The result showed that there is not a big difference in environmental effect. Moreover, by doing so, a huge amount of resource will be saved from battery manufacturing process while reducing waste generation. It is recommended that waste NiMH battery should be regenerated and reused in HV instead of being recycled directly in the future.

Air pollution is becoming an important issue in big towns, inparticular in city centres, where the density of traffic is high. Both, passenger cars and commercial vehicles are responsible for air quality. In the last decades more and more transportation companies changed their conventional vehicles into any kind of alternative vehicles. The aim of this paper is to investigate the economic and environmental effects of introducing alternative fuels and power trains in cargo vans. All of the simulated vehicles were equipped with internal combustion engines, but they are operating with different fuels. Gasoline, methane, ethanol and hydrogen fuels are used in these engine models. Conventional and hybrid powertrains are compared too. Only the gasoline fuelled engine is simulated with hybrid driveline besides the conventional ones. Both micro- and full-hybrid vehicles are modelled. Instead of dynamical analysis we focused on efficiency and emission therefore tests drive cycles were simulated. There were cycles defined by standards, like NEDC drive cycle. An individual cycle was recorded on a given route at different times of the day; the vehicle was driven along the planned path and the speed profile was recorded. As a result we could compare the different vehicles from the point of view of emission, fuel consumption and efficiency. In order to validate the simulation results laboratorial measurements were carried out. We also aimed at developing a business model capable ofanalysing the economical effects of alternative fuel and powertrain use. Generally it can be stated that the application of any alternative technology means additional costs (investment) at the beginning for the user. The investment is just worth the money if lower operational costs can be achieved. Achieved savings were calculated with our model and a sensitivity analysis was also performed.

This paper presents the prepared mathematical models of electrochemical battery Ni-MH and supercapacitors used to simulate components of hybrid bus propulsion system. The model does not provide a self-discharge process of electric energy storage due to the nature of electricity receiver. Frequent changes of direction and power value make the process of self-discharge must not be taken into account. Prepared models of electric energy storage devices are adapted to simulate specified speed profile by the static method, which has the advantage is speed simulation and ease of comparison between several variants of the propulsion system.

With the rapid growth of schemes and initiatives to promote e-mobility and numerous measures taken to ensure its quick and effective implementation, there is a wide range of technological and non-technological problems, especially organisational, economic, legal and social in nature, that have to be handled by national and local governments all over the world. This article addresses some of the technological and organisational challenges for electromobility. The key technology-related issues to be coped with are the need for longer ranges of electric vehicles (EVs), shorter charging times and smart power grids (because of a higher demand for electrical energy). Another important problem to be solved urgently is the high battery weight, affecting the vehicle dynamics. Because of the excessive weight of the battery pack, there is a risk of its displacement during a crash, which may jeopardize the safety on the road. The next big concern, also associated with safety, is protection against electrical and fire hazards in the event of a collision. The most important of all the organisational challenges related to EVs is the necessity to create networks of charging stations. Their insufficient number and unsatisfactory distribution are strong barriers hampering the development of e-mobility. The organisational measures also include privileges such as access to bus lanes, already offered in some countries. Finally, there is the need to urgently train a large number of electricians to test and maintain EVs, the need to create a recycling system for used EV batteries, and the need to deal with the organisational aspects of the development of smart power grids.
